Now that we know there is a GPS chip on the Hermes, is it possible to pick up FM radio via it?

Why should that be possible?

now that would be a truly interesting concept, and a world first to boot.

FM Radio on Hero - is it possible?

Hi,
I read over on MacRumours.com that Apple are developing an FM Radio app for their iPhone.
Could such a thing be done on the HERO - or is it a hardware issue?
cheers
There's an FM radio app on the click/tattoo, so i suppose it's possible. But how the heck do i extract it from the device?

Apparently, more recent iPhones and iPod's have had an FM receiver/transmitter in them for some time now, but it was only being used to support Nike+ on iPods. Since the hardware is there, releasing an app to take advantage of it is going to be pretty easy to do.
I doubt that Hero has an FM hardware in it, but if it does the same should be theoretically possible.

Dave

Fm radio on frx04?

I was wondering if its possible to get an fm radio wich not uses internet on the rhod100-uk using the 11 pins headset wich i use as antenna for the radio in winmo. I saw that the galaxy s has the same system and cant we just instal that app or something?
I am using frx04 with kernel 1258

RHOD100's have an FM radio chip? I'm not aware of any RHOD's having an FM radio chip, so if the 100 does that's probably the only one that does...

AFAIK all RHODs have FM radios, or at least GSM ones.

Arrgh didn't know anything about a radio so i think only the rhod100 phones have that. I tried FM TwoO from the market but it didn't find the hardware for the fm radio. So i don't thing it's working, because the hardware isn't addressed for android.
Hrm. I'll look up some specs, I'm pretty sure my RHOD400 doesn't have an FM radio.
If it is doable, this would be very low priority... as in, if the devs are bored with nothing else to do, this might get addressed. However, I'm not aware of any dev with a RHOD100.
If anyone does know definitively which RHOD's have FM radios that would help... thanks!

If i know how to develop things i would be happy to help with everything, only if i knew a way how. (Probably the same for all of us)

I see... looks like the CDMA devices were left out to the pasture with this feature.
Should come eventually, but certainly not high on the list of things to do. Open a bug on the tracker! I don't think there is one for FM radio (but please search to make sure there isn't one.)

didn't get that, but anyways it says here that the fm radio is not ready yet ( i know it's outdated)
http://www.androidonhtc.com/wiki/Port_Status
but yeah it's not a priority, not too many people use FM radios these days
Yeah my 210 has radio too. I presumed all rhods did, but maybe not. I do hear that it didn't come unlocked in the stock build or something . . . . .but within a week of buying my rhodium I had a custom rom with fm radio app installed on it.Only works well with htc headfones though, as antenna (and mine are fairly rubbish) so id say for most bluetooth/camera would be of higher priority to get working right
Same status on Blackstone. Need kernel support.
Anyway, if CDMA and GSM Rhod's use the same wireless chipset all of them have fm radio, like the nexus one. At least, if I understood something of all my readings

Uh, they don't use the same wireless chipset. They can't as they aren't all GSM
If I understand it correctly, both Sprint's and Verizon's TP2 are actually world phones meaning they have both CDMA and GSM. I suspect the CDMA world versions lack a functioning FM radio because of this extra radio.
I think it's similar to why the Epic 4G is so radically different than the rest of the Galaxy S phones as only Sprint needs WiMAX.
I the Herman/Raphael (Touch Pro) had a similar issue regarding the FM Radio being only enabled on the GSM version and not on the CDMA version. I had a Sprint Touch Pro and there was significant uproar that the FM Radio was not physically enabled on it where it was on the GSM version. Something about it being literally crippled on the hardware end to disable it.

[Q] fm radio

I remember seeing an FM radio app pre installed on a rom a few months ago, possibly freex10 or one of trips miui roms.
It was a good program but I can't find it now, does anyone have it?
It uses the ear phones for the antenna to pickup fm radio stations. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks

The x10 doesnt have a built in radio, the only radio that works is the streaming ones, so apps like tunein radio
ive used it before though?
too bad we need internet to run the radio,
Can it use bluetooth to run FM like the program in cm7 rom of htc and other phone???

Any radio app you used was streaming from online. Try TuneIn Radio, its got a ton of stations from all over but it is missing a few of my local favorites.

[Q] FM radio on flyer possible?

Hello
Can someone tell me if it's possible to have an FM radio like on the HTC smartphones?
I have a Sensation and a Desire HD and on both phones there is an FM radio.
I'm not familiar with the hardware of my devices but it would be nice to have it also on the HTC Flyer.
I hope that somehow we can activate that possibility if it's hardware supported.
Thx guys (and dolls)

There is no FM radio in the hardware.
But you can use radio over the internet, there are some goed Apps.
Kind of off topic... but I have often wondered why radio's are more common in phones than in tablets... i mean a tablet prob wouldnt require the headphones plugged in ... as the device itself should be able to house a large enough antana to pick up FM
Kris
Bluetooth is FM radio, so if it has Bluetooth, it has FM radio. Now whether that is enough "hardware" to receive FM radio stations, or something more is needed, I don't know.
I think that this is a great idea 4 use in the tablets...
Now that people forget the radio, use it since new gadgets, And uf smartphones can why not the tablets...

I'm a bit on the fence with an FM app, I probably wouldn't use it much (if at all). Don't get good radio reception at work and that would really be the only place I'd use it.
But I'll throw my vote in for it...
After some searching in other device forums on XDA, two things would be necessary for the FM radio app to function in the most basic of senses (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not too well versed on the android backend).
1) There would either need to be a standalone FM chipset, or the existing BT chipset would need to be one that is capable of receiving OTA FM radio frequencies.
This appears to be the BT chip: http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-htc-flyer/6256123?seq=70
8903GE TI107 BTEM
2) The FM radio app requires kernel support to be added.
Apparently it is not an easy task to add it to devices where it was not pre-installed.
This thread has an HTC FM Radio APK attached... maybe if anyone gets really bored?
I dunno... It kills me you MUST have headphones in to start it because that's where the antenna. Couple that with crappy signal and that you can get stations outside of your area on internet streaming I have to say I don't miss it other than for say... Lovelines. (My area got rid of local internet stream for it). :/
I'm not rooted yet, so if somone could try to install the htcradio app i would really appreciate it.
In belgium we have expensive mobile data plans...so I preferr the fm radio while reading the newspaper on the train
