I tried the T-Mobile 1.60 rom on my O2 xda2.
It works perfectly with my xda2.
However, I found some interest thing on the new rom upgrade process
1. It seems XDA2 (or HTC Himalaya) use one single program for RAIDO / Extended Rom / OS Rom update. It seems Radio upgrade failure may no longer case device failure, because the RADIO upgrade process is same as OS upgrade process, and not required to copy the whole software into the RAM to upgrade.
2. Sinces some of us (and my XDA2) report that the exteneded rom is READ ONLY, but the upgrade program can update the extended rom. That means the Exteneded rom is not REALLY read only, but somewhere locked it. More funny is , it is seems the Main OS rom is not controlling the exteneded rom is locked or not, because after I updated the extended rom, it is still locked.
3. If O2 XDA2 can use T-Mobile MDA2 update, it seems the upgrade software no longer check the header of the device (At lease this version won't). I think we can use it to change device's language. However I don't know how to dump the rom in .nbf format, is that possible to convert the nb1 format to nbf format?
Thanks.
Hi killercheung...
where are you find the 1.60 rom ?
and the radio what version is ?
Can you put it in my ftp pls ?
it's always on
ftp://dgmatic.com
user: xda

Thanks in advance

killercheung, thanks for that... I'm still deciding whether to apply the new rom to my UK XDA II.... is the language of the rom netherlands? or can I have it all in english as it is with the normal O2 rom?
Do we lose anything from the o2 rom/extended rom ?
I'm wondering if O2 do bring an upgrade out if we'll be able to still use it if we've tried this t-mobile 1.60 rom.... hmmmmm
hmmm decisions decisions... do you think its much better than the current o2 rom?
Now that I have moved to the 1.60 rom, I must say there's ONE thing I DO miss ....
My O2 BUBBLES ARE GONE FROM MY ASIAN O2.
(I obviously knew this could happen, but thought I'd made a backup of my extended ROM (I DID, but I accidentally tossed it a few days ago) . Who would be so kind as to send me a copy of the O2.cab file from the extended rom, so that I can put the bubbles back into my dialer ...)

Re: Some interesting things on the T-Mboile 1.60 update soft
Hi Killercheung,
You've missed out something ... the EXE file can be unzipped (using Winrar) ... you will then see the same upgrade.exe files, nbf files (3 of them) ... you can then deleted the ms_.nbf so that only the CORE ROM and RADIO is updated, and keep all O2 EXTENDED_ROM content untouch.
You can also use the same method to upgrade to Chinese ...

Good news about the T-Mobile ROM. I don't know what they have fixed/patched, but my O2 XDA II ROM never bothered to disconnect the GPRS connection after having spent some time online, not after surfing, not after checking e-mail. Mind you the T-moblile ROM doesn't either, except ....... when checking e-mail, which in my eyes is quite important.
So now I can go back to have my XDA check my e-mail once per hour, knowing that it will disconnect automatically.
(And Satria, thanks for sending me my bubbles

Hi,
Just one question. Did any of you that make the update testet with the bluetooth GPS?

For NBF, you can use XDAtools to capture the Chinese ROM, I did once with the English ROM and the file size is exactly the same as the one in 1.60 update. So there should have no missing bytes in the saved file.
For the EXTENDED_ROM, no idea how to save in NBF format ..
I have installed the update but TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5.
@axbl
Hi, What do you think about the update? It´s mutch better than before?
You say "TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5."
Have you installd Towa solution?

yikes...... did that happen on the old rom as well or did gprs stay connected on the original rom?
I hate the way gprs disconnects on devices.. it's supposed to be always on, and I'd really prefer if it stayed on during suspend etc so that MSN could stay connected, notifying me when I got a message....
Email checking likewise, I'd prefer gprs remained always connected and it'd check email in the background whether off or on, notifying me when it got a new mail.
I can't check the behaviour of my xda II since Im on "roaming" at the moment in another country so no gprs
but can anyone say for sure which way the old vs new rom work in this regard?
I did some research on the upgrade process, and fileformats:

Hi Paul
Looks like i did the same, I upgraded to the 1.60 and lost the o2 bits, so hopefully if we replace our extended roms with the files i pull off a new XDA2 later, and then hard reset we should have Ver 1.60 with the o2 settings

Any luck with the files?
10 mins, and they will be ready
Here we go, here are the extended rom files from a proper UK o2 XDA-2
all i have done is the T-mobile 1.6 upgrade, then made the extended rom vissible and deleted the files, then replaced with this set in the zip file, then hard reset, and all is fine
John
Cool stuff you are the man
thanks for your help
Paul there is one problem, let me try and explaine.
when i first instaled the T-Mobile Dutch rom, as per instruction on here i removed the radio part and installed the rom without radio (hopeing to keep the original uk o2 stuf) but the upgrade worked fine apart from the phone aerial indicator would not show any service just a "!" nest to it, but altho you could not make calls you could still make a GPRS connection, and after you ended that the signal would show and the you make calls as normal
but ater a soft rest you needed to do the connect gprs first to get it work for voice calls, so as this was poxy i just re did the full t-mobile complete rom upgrade after this the phone worked just as it should, but of corse i lost the UK o2 bits and connection details i needed
so maybe as we now have newer roms we may need some of the t-mobile radio parts and our UK o2 parts as well,
i will mess around with it and let you know
is there anyone else with any ideas
John
yes i now have the same problem
not able to make or receive calls
i have found a way round it, iam going to do it again and this time note what i have done, i will post instructions as soon as i finished

Ok will hang on before i kill my phone
ok here we go
first of all i cleared out all the files in the extended rom and left it empty
then i hard rest
and entered the regional stuff and got a basic xda running
then i put the files from the extended rom on a SD card
and from the file manager i ran the following cabs ONLY....
and in this order
CallerID_wwe.sa
Camera_wwe.sa
clearview_wwe.sa
Midi.sa
MMS_WWE.sa
msmsgs8
o2_AP_UK.sa
Version.sa
xmailinstaller2003bla bla bla
o2_activeUI (make sure its not the o2_activeUI_eng setup)
after this enter your preferance, it resets and your are done
I do know you can sdeit the config in the extended rom to run just the cabs you need but i will do that later.
at least this way UK people who have lost the perment GPRS after upgrading and the UK setting can have them all back
please let me know if this also works 100% fine for other people as well
(Oh by the way its the cab "OEM_WWE.sa" that makes the phone show no service) so what ever you do dont click this cab
John
Hi John
That was fine well done that man
My XDAII is now in full working order with 1.6 rom and my UK O2 setting and programs
Well Done
In the MMS software on the XDA II O2 UK can someone describe what the setting under Options are please?
I deleted by mistake the O2 server or whatever it is called and its setting up.
Can someone help and tell me what settings they have?
Thank you.

Hi there !
I have upgraded to 1.60 but my extended ROM, whilst visible, can't be altered as it appears to be locked.......how did you get around that ??

Hi
I just run this tool and it made it visable and not locked
let me know if it works for you, you need to soft reaset after running the cab
John
Hi to you all.
I have the current XDA II UK Rom on my i-mate and its the best rom I have ever had, I really like the look of it and it seems vey stable as well.
The Active User Interface on the today screen is configered for UK O2, is there any way to edit the files in the Windows\V2R\O2ActiveUI\Data. I guess that is the files with all the settings for voicemail number, country settings etc... I am Vodafone Australia.
Any help please...
Hi,
you can try to modify the cab-File (o2ActiveUI....cab) in the Extended ROM.
Take WinCE Cab Manager to edit the above mentioned cab-file. In this cab-file you will find another cab-file (o2ActiveUI.cab?) which you should extract first and after that edit with the WinCE Cab Manager.
In this file you will find several settings for different providers (o2 UK & o2 GER). I think that it should be possible to change them, but did not try that yet (though I also intend to do that).
Should you succeed, it would be great if you could post what you've figured out...
Bobopopo
I think ExtROM is also an important part of upgrading the phone's ROM because I think from what I have read that it makes it possible to use certain provider functions so I am looking for where to get the ExtROM version 2.11.255.105 so that I can have certain functions on my TyTN. I am planning to upgrade my WM5 to WM6 and would also like to be able to write special characters for my language for example, å,ä, ö and so on. Does anyone know where & how I can get that?
Or does anyone think this ExtROM could be extracted from my previous ROM? I could send my WM5 ROM-2.11.255.2 if it could be extract

Thanks for the link but the extended rom im looking for isnt there... could it be possible to extract it from my present ROM? I want to install it after upgrading with the 838Pro_HK_ENG_WM6_Upgrade_20070712 ROM.
Do you think I can use special characters like å,ö,ä when I install that 838Pro_HK_ENG_WM6_Upgrade_20070712 ROM?
Thanks a mil AboForat! Now I could get my ExtROM out from the previous ROM using TotalCommander. Could you kindly tell if I can install this ExtROM over the new one that will be flashed together with the WM& upgrade?

I think the Extended_ROM you are looking for is from the last HTC WM5 build; I have it at home and could post it in about 3 hours.
I have attached the Extended_ROM from the WWE HTC ROM 2.11.255.102 WM5.

No need to just search for Advancedconfig install to your phone and go to the Misc. tab then change your keyboard to Cingular. Or else search the WIKI and see how to do it using the registry
oh also, when i upgraded, it says i dont have a data plan, so how would i add the data number and info to my phone so i can go on the internet again
but still if i wanted to downgrade back to the original os how would i?
To go back to the original you would probably need the original flash from ATT/Cingular. I believe you can get it from their support web site.
The problems you have are fixable though. You need to edit your registry for the qwerty keyboard and install the "cingular.cab" on your phone to get your data connection back (or manually set up the connection).

Check this link for downgrade help.
Cingular ROMs (which can be un-rar'd and then extracted with dutty's good nbh tool to get the pieces of the ROM if you only want pieces) can be downloaded from the wiki here.

HERE'S a link to a page a created for less experienced users with links to many reference sites.
If you go to Hermes Cab Respository link and scroll down to DeStefano's Cab Collection I believe you'll find a Cingular Keyboard Fix which may also help.
As well, my page hopefully has many other threads and resources that may be helpful.
