The primary purpose of this thread is so that you can post your WM06 (and WM05) themes and splash screens; we will link this in the wiki. Over the next several days, I will be posting some simple instructions on replacing your splash screen and boot graphics, however that information can already be found in the wiki. Feel free to attach any today themes, splash screens, instructions etc.
When you post, please attach a picture so we know what we are downloading and zip file of the graphics so they are not resized by the server.
To get started I have attached a template for making a windows splash, as well as my template I personally use on my device. The "silence of the lambs" style picture hopefully scares the person into returning my device if lost or stolen. I included the templates in the zip file; you can edit your name and contact info; portrait version only. More to follow.

How do I change my windows splash screen?
Create or download the splash screen of your choice, it can be up to 320x320 and 96 dpi. Save the file as welcomehead.96.png and save it to the /windows directory of your device. You may need Resco Explorer or a similar tool to overwrite the current file.
The image should appear when you reboot.
I will attach some splash images below over the next several days.
How do I change the boot splash? From this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1140696&postcount=6
A method for 1.01 MFG can be found on the wiki; if you do not want to SuperCID your device permanently though, you need to use SSPL-HERM.exe.
Requirements
nb_image_converter.exe, e.g. from Hermes SplashScreen_Pack.zip
nbhgen.exe, e.g. from this forum topic
any official ROM image
Full steps
Create a BMP file in paint, size must be 240x320.
Save it as BMP 24bit.
Load it on nb_image_converter.exe and save it as splash.nb
open a cmd.exe command prompt on the folder where you saved your splash
run this command
copy /b splash.nb+padding.nb finalsplash.nb
Check that filesize of "finalsplash.nb" is exactly 262144 bytes.
create a samples.txt with the following contents
HERM200
HTC__001
1.23.707.6
USA
600,finalsplash.nb
601,finalsplash.nb
You may need to adjust HERM200 to HERM100 or HERM300 based on your model).
And you can have a different subsplash if you repeat steps 1 to 5 with a different file.
run the following command on a shell in the same folder:
nbhgen.exe sample.txt
extract the ROM image, e.g. with WinRAR
rename the .nbh file inside that folder to .bak
move your newly generated RUU_signed.nbh into the same folder
put SSPL-HERM.exe onto your device
run SSPL-HERM.exe on the device
check that the Tricolor screen will appear and show SPL-1.09.ds
run ROMUpgradeUt.exe
List compiled from three different existing tutorials - credits go to those! - and tested successful yesterday From CCRDude
I have only included files that I have created in this first post. If you would like your files added, please let me know. Both the PNG and JPG are included in the zip.

I wonder why some people are so obsessed with skulls.
Here is a welcomehead.96.png file (to replace the windows 96 startup screen) for all you Mac users who have to use windows for your mobile environment, (for now, at least).

I already read this tutorial here on forum, but the problem is: I wanna change only the first splash screen, not the 1st n 2nd.
Can I use this program to create only the first splash screen with HTC's logo? Cos the 2nd splash screen I'm using this:
I just made this for my 8525 startup animation.

* YOU NEED BOOTLOADER 1.01MFG ON YOUR DEVICE FOR THIS TO WORK *
For full instructions see:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_BootloaderMFG
Hermes Splash Screen Howto
---------------------------
Create a BMP file in paint, size must be 240x320.
Save it as BMP 24bit.
Load it on nb_image_converter.exe and save it as splash.nb
open a cmd.exe command prompt, go to folder where you saved your splash
run this command:
copy /b splash.nb+padding.nb finalsplash.nb
Filesize of "finalsplash.nb" should be exactly 262144 bytes.
Now put your phone in bootloader mode (side ok + power button + softreset)
Connect to bootloader using mtty.exe and load splash screen using these commands:
For first splash screen (MainSplash):
USB> task 32
USB> lnb finalsplash.nb 500e0000
USB> task 8
For Second splash screen (SubSplash):
USB> task 32
USB> lnb finalsplash.nb 50140000
USB> task 8
You dont need BOOTLOADER 1.01MFG,
Read MrVanx's guide http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=27
and follow it word for word.
If you dont want to replace the second splash then either dont include the SubSplash or use the existing one you have.
I followed his guide yesterday and it worked perfectly for me and ive got SPL:2.10.oli
I downloaded a screen splash on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292014
I changed the second splash screen to WM crossbow only with a simple .cab. Can I create a .cab to install on device? It seems more easy... :?

Hi everybody,
I just bought me a TyTN and did the Rom reconstruction procedure, this all worked very well (thx for the great guides), but with this procedure only the Part02 file is transformed into a .nbh file.
Is it possible to fully reconstruct the rom including, splash screen and most import the extrom. I still have all the four Part00 - Part03.raw files but don't know how to convert them to usable .nbh files, I also don't know what the other three PartXX.raw files are.
Cause at the moment when I load the reconstructed rom, I have the extrom from the last rom I had installed which of course is not the extrom of the reconstructed rom.
Any help on this would be great. Thanks.
wwwwwwiiiiiiikkkkkkkkiiiiiiii
Please read exactly what I'm asking for
@peezy: before shouting wiki, you should read my post exactly. I already succeeded in building an OS.nbh from my dumped ROM.
What I'm asking for is a FULL rom reconstruction, especially the extended rom is a problem if missing and I'm quite sure the extended rom and maybe also the boot images are in the other PartXX.raw files but I don't know how to create the missing .nbh files for flash and extended rom. What's not such a big problem is the radio rom. But in case I have to repair the phone I'd like to go back to the OS I had before flashing the WM6 LVSW including boot images and extended rom.
I already found a thread on how to create the boot images, but the problem is I have to pull out the boot images from the dumped ROM and the even bigger problem is the extended rom which I also have to reconstruct from the dump files.
unhide extrom, copy the files and use AnDim ExtROM editor to create your new extrom.nb. See stickies in this forum for more info.
For splash screens see here:

stuck with splash dumps
@pof: Thanks for your help, I was able to create the ExtRom with AnDim ExtRom editor and I tried to extract to splash screens with mtty and usbmonitor.
But I got stuck there because USB Monitor is kind of strange to handle if you don't know what you're doing, so I tried to extract the dumps on my gentoo box. At first with your supplied 'cu' command but that fails for what reason exactly I don't know. So I used ser2net to made my ttyUSB1 accessible with telnet. And then I did a dump of my telnet session with the rbmc command one for each splash screen.
Can you please explain what I have to do in order to get the .bmp's out of the dump files? I assume at first I have to clear out the telnet command lines at top and bottom, but I don't know exactly up to where I have to cut the files and how to convert the resulting file into bmp. Cause I'd like to dump the images from a colleagues phone (which has special boot images and no downloadable rom upgrade).
or maybe you can give me a correct 'cu' command for dumping the stuff directly without having to capture the telnet session.
Thanks for you help
@marcelser: just remove everything before HTCS, and everything after HTCE. Then you have HTCS +262144 byte splash screen + 4byte checksum + HTCE.
So remove HTCS, 4byte checksum and HTCE and you have your splash screen in NB format
It worked
@pof: Thanks for you help. Made a little perl app which grabs only the portion between HTCS and HTCE minus 4 bytes at the end with a little regex and writes that to a new file.
Then used rombaker to make a new splash.nbh file and re-extracted the files in the new RUU_signed.nbh with nbhextract which also converts the extracted .nb splash images to .bmp and the .bmp's looked just fine.
Then I loaded a different wm6 rom which has other splash screens and flashed the RUU_signed.nbh with the created splash screens to the device and had the extracted splash screens back on the device.
I attached the perl file which converts any dump which has the HTCS and HTCE strings in it to splash .nb it should run on any perl version (win32 + linux) although its only tested on linux.
So... want to make Splash screens for your device? well, now you can.
USAGE:
1) dump a splash screen from an NBH with NBHExtract. (SubSplash or MainSplash will do)
2) Run the Converter program to convert the .NB to an .RSB (select VGA)
3) Run the RSB<->BMP converter to convert it to an editable BMP.
4) edit the BMP with your preferred editor however you like, but do NOT resize or rotate it (well, if you do rotate it, rotate it back after!)
5) Run the RSB<->BMP converter to convert BACK to a .RSB
6) Run the Converter to convert the RSB BACK to an NB.
7) open sample.txt and edit the two file names AFTER 600, and 601, - DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE.
8) open a command prompt at this folder and do "nbhgen sample.txt"
9) flash the RUU_Signed.nbh with the Athena updater, you MUST be running Hard-SPL (1.20.Olipro) to flash!
10) Profit. - I mean erm... done.

Step 8 just means you run the application at DOS.
For example you extract the folder at the Root directory of C: then you should have something like:
C:\Splash-RSB Converter\nbhgen sample.txt
By doing step 8, you'll generate 'RUU_Signed.nbh' file
Step 9 means, you copy the generated 'RUU_Signed.nbh' to the folder where you previously extracted the Original ROM and replace the original 'RUU_Signed.nbh' with it.
Prior to flashing this splash screen, you need to have Olipro's HardSPL v1.2 already flashed to your device.
BTW, I attach the tool (which I got from BuzzDev) to convert BMP<->RSB
Finally, just want to say thanks to Olipro
Cheers!
If I flash a new splash screen will it hard reset and then I will have to reinstall all software?
Hello everyone, I am just asking if it is possible to flash different splash screen on Titan? First screen you see like VZW xv6800 say VERIZON on white background before animated gif startup begin (VZW_Startup.gif) so.. can I change the VERIZON? Thanks!
Hiromitsu
Look on in your \windows dir on your PPC for any .png & gif files that look like the ones that initiate when your phone starts. For the Sprint Mogul & Alltel PC6800, one of the spash screens is called welcomehead.96.png on both.
Once you find the stock .png & gif files on \windows, rename any custom animated pic after the .gif file and do the same for a .png pic. Then copy into \windows using Total Commander, etc and overwrite. Also make sure that they are the same 320x240 size.
So lets say on your VX6800 that you have a splash screen called VZW_6800.96.png in your \windows dir thats starts up with your phone now... You would:
1. Load, edit and rename YOUR 320x240 custom pic VZW_6800.96.png using Paint on your PC.
2. Paste pic into a folder somewhere on your device that you can access.
3. Using Total Commander, Copy this pic into \windows and a screen asking you to overwrite will popup. Click yes.
4. Done.
Do the same for a .gif.
1. Load, edit and then name YOUR 320x240 custom .gif, VZW_Startup.gif on your PC.
2. Paste .gif into a folder somewhere on your device that you can access.
3. Using Total Commander, Copy this pic into \windows and a screen asking you to overwrite will popup. Click yes.
4. Done.
welcomehead.96.png does exist on the XV6800. It is not the verizon splash though. That is the WM splash screen.
Yes, VZW splash is load from ROM so need cook in kitchen for this one. I just want know how to change this only. I already change animate GIF and WM screen.

I didnt know if it existed or not; I was using it as a reference for what to look for and how to go about accomplishing it. I hear Verizon & Sprint have animated startups whereas the Alltel 6800 does not. But we do have the welcomehead.96.png. I do not believe that you must cook a new rom to make these changes...
I have explain this plainly already,,
for VZW Titan XV6800....
There 3 startup splash,,
In ROM:
1.) Solid white screen not moving VZW logo. (15 sec)
In device:
2.) Animate VZW logo -> VZW_Startup.gif (10 sec)
3.) WM Startup wallpaper -> welcomehead.96.png (Varies)
If I install other carrier ROM,, first still image (VZW) is VZW... even though change carrier ROM... so its burn in boot code.....
these images will be available when verizon releases a rom update. the current verizon rom available was dumped from a running xv6800 and does not include the images you want, which are mainsplash.nb and subsplash.nb. these are separate from os.nb, all are contained in the nbh you flash. the dumped verizon rom available only included os.nb
dcd,,
Can I replace mainsplash.nb and subsplash.nb now?
If I make my own splash nb file I can already flash it?
Thanks

To change the actual boot splash which contains the operator logo and ROM info text you need to flash it! the TD (Niki) has 4 splash screen as follows:
1-Primary Splash (Operator Logo)
2-Secondary Splash again operator logo with the ROM Protocol info at the bottom of screen in red.
3-Splash Gif animation
4-Splash Welcomehead i.e. WM6 splash you get before Today loads.
Splash 3 and 4 can easily be changed as mentioned here. I think what you need is to change Splash 1 and 2 if you want to get rid of the Orange logo however this can only be done through flashing (via customRUU) so you must make sure your TD has HardSPL otherwise you will end up bricking the device if you haven't check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
At the moment I can only change the 1st Splash but can't seem to change the 2nd splash once I can figure out how, I will post the necessary files here
Here is a thread that shows how change your PrimarySplash screen. You do need to flash it, but its not that hard to do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361287
second one is easy to change. Just rename any .png picture to welcomehead.96.png and put in Windows folder on phone, replacing the one that's there. Then soft reset.
Thanks
Cheers fellas, I appreciate your help.
odd problem with Welcomehead 96
Tried overwriting the welcomehead.96 file but it can't be overwritten,
checked the properties of the file and all the options (read only etc) are greyed out?
Copied the file to my hard drive and it cannot be seen, even when I have the show hidden files folder option checked?
I'd hazard a guess that the PNG file is hard coded to the memory chip? so a Rom flash may be needed?
But I still can't work out why the copied PNG on my hard drive would behave the way it is,
maybe just having a thick attack.
I haven't come across this before, can anyone shed some light on it?

You can't overwrite files in the windows folder with the built in file explorer use Resco File Explorer or download freeware Total Commander from here: http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm

Here's how I changed both the 1st & 2nd Splash screens on my Wife's Touch Dual:
First create two splash screens (.i.e. PrimarySplash.nb & SecondarySplash.nb) using the methods & tools mentioned in PDAViet site.
1. Use Dark Simpson HTC ROM Tool
2. Select 'Hermes' as device
3. Fill in 'NIKI***' as Model ID (Instead of 'HERM***')
4. Select your Primary & Secondary Splash
5. Create the NBH file
6. Flash with the Touch Dual CustomRUU extracted from Niki Project's ROM.

Update***SOLVED*** Once again thanks [email protected] for pointing me in the right direction however, to create the two splash (.i.e. PrimarySplash.nb & SecondarySplash.nb) using the methods & tools mentioned in PDAViet site and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361287 is "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NIKI" hence the reason I ended up getting corrupted splash screens (see the images in my last post)
The Correct Procedure is as Follows:
1. Make sure you have HardSPL installed if not get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
2. Create a BMP file in paint, size must be 240x320, save it as BMP 24bit.
3. Get SplashTool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334904
4. Load your BMP on nb_image_converter (included in SplashTool's zip) and save it as PrimarySplash do the same load another BMP and this time save as SecondarySplash
5. Open SplashTool.exe and convert both PrimarySplash.nb and SecondarySplash.nb to new format.
6. Use Dark Simpson HTC ROM Tool get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311909
7. Select 'Hermes' as device
8. Fill in 'NIKI***' as Model ID (Instead of 'HERM***')
9. Select your Primary & Secondary Splash
10. Create the NBH file
11. Flash with the Touch Dual CustomRUU get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356259
Enjoy your new splash screen
Credits to Pof, MadKat, Dark Simpson, Jockyw2001 and Midget_1990!!!!
P.S. For those of you who are getting the vista "COMDLG32.OSX" error when trying to run madkat's NB image converter download and install the attached file and re-run the convertor should work

Kudos to you tom!! sorry if I double posted in any case I think yours is a much simpler neater method then the one I've posted here
thanks.
Un Saludo.
How to flash your device for changing splash screen won't hard-reset your device. But you should still make a backup .
i. Create the wallpaper 480x640
Advice : when the Raphael starts, you can see 3 red lines (R, G, D number versions) : the 100 low pixel are black, whatever your wallpaper... that's why, I suppose, every splash screen I saw are always black
And you should take care of that (just use the 540 high pixel, and leave the 100 low black)
ii. If not already done, convert the image to a .bmp (just use paint and save as a 24 bit bmp)
iii. Run rsbbmp.exe, the RSB<->BMP converter, to convert your .bmp to a .rsb
Just clic on "Add files", select your .bmp files, and then, "convert all"
This will create a .rsb file in the same folder as your .bmp file
iv. Run Splash-RSB Converter.exe, the RSB<->NB converter.
Choose the VGA option. This will create a .nb file in the same folder as your .rsb file
v. run NBHutil.exe, the NB<->NBH converter (the NBHUtil.xml file have to be in the same folder as NBHUtil.exe).
On first tab "Build NBH", in the "Target Device" list, choose "Raphael" (at the end of the list).
Then, on the right on the windows, you'll have the "NBH Items". Clic on the "..." button of splash item. An "Open" windows pops up : select the .nb file that you just created. Finally, clic on button "Build NBH!"
This will create a .nbh file (in the location that you choose).
vi. Copy/paste this file in the same folder as RaphaelCustomRUU.exe, run it & follow instructions as usual for a flash of your Raphael.
vii. Enjoy
I'm also curious on a how-to
Yes please, I would like to take off the t-mobile boot screen.
Hi guys found this hope it can work for the pro also will try it myself and let you know if it does.
Cook your splash screen
The problem is we dont know yet the correct address for Touch Pro splash screen to convert to nbh. And I think if u want to try, better try Diamond Splash tool & not this one.
Splash
Diamond splash tools, able to convert to nbh but when when u flash to Touch Pro, promth message " wrong device ID"

The device ID in diamond is DIAM*** but in raphael es RAPH***
So take care when you create the NBH file using htcrt or NBHGen. The NB splash from Diamond is valid.
Cheers
I want to backup my current splash first just in case something happens and I need to bring it back again (t-mobile). Anybody has one already or has procedures in extracting the splash from your ROM?
