HTC not planning a WM6 Upgrade for Current Devices?
By JNGold, posted Wednesday, Feb. 14th, 2007
XDA Developer forum member swartb received an email regarding a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for his current HTC P3600. Basically, HTC responded with a reply that no upgrade path would be offered for current devices, leaving only newly released devices getting some WM6 love.
This is in stark contrast to what other OEM's (and even mobile carriers) have initially stated regarding upgrading existing devices.
Anybody remember what Gerald Ford told NYC back in the 70's that made the front page of the newspapers? Kind of the same thing here.
Bad news indeed if this comes to pass

Is there any firm news on the likleyhood of a WM2003SE Upgrade for XDAII's (or any of the other versions of this hardware)? I have seen plenty of posts from people who seem to think it will come sometime but nothing official confirming this.
Given that HP have abandined any possibility of an upgrade for existing users I think it unlikley but I guess it only needs one ISP to offer the upgarde for Himalaya hardware and then we should be able to re-work it for the rest of us.
Yes, I'm looking for this too! I was hoping at least the new T-Mo USA iPaq phone edition would have SE! Is there a way to put that OS on my xdaII? -or is that a bad idea? -is it possible to get that ROM anywhere?

I just talked with the "live support" on this site. This is a copy of the session
Welcome Paul, please wait while we get you in contact with one of our club advisors...
You're now talking to Ali
Ali> Welcome to club i-mate support. My name is Ali, how can I help you today?
Ali> hi
Paul> hi, i wanted to ask about if/when the Windows Mobile 2003 SE update will be available for the imate PPC
Ali> Microsoft have just released Windows Mobile 2003 SE, however we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> is there any guess on time frame, it as been release by microsoft for a couple of months now.
Ali> there is no exact day for that
Ali> this usualy take 2 mounths
Paul> I have a number of friends who are considering purchasing the imate, but not sure if they should wait a bit longer if it wont be getting the landscape support found in SE. Can I at least tell them that it will be supplied sometime (this year)
Ali> yes sure , The Windows Mobile 2003 SE is totally different from the new upgrade currently available on our www.clubimate.com website that updates the current version of Windows Mobile 2003.
Ali> it will have the ability to view the pages in landscape
Paul> I understand that, just wanted to make sure it will be provided. I know a number of manufactureres have said they would not.
Paul> thank-you for your time
Ali> any more quieries ?
Paul> I have noticed that there is a number of questions about this topic on the support message boards on the club imate site. Is it ok if I post this conversation there to the public to answer the question and lay fears at ease?
Ali> ok thats will be fine , as i told you we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> ok, thank alot, you have been very helpful
Paul> bye
Ali> you are most welcome
Ali> bye
So it indeed seems that it is being worked on. And a big thanks to imate for providing that. All we neeed to do is be patient.

So i finaly got a hold of wm6cb.rar. Tried the romupgrade tool and kept getting country id error. So i draged the NFK file to the country id patched loader. Device radi: "Nothing stated"
device Ext:"Nothing stated"
To
Device rom :2.00????
it brings me to the loading stage with the install 0%
then stays there for 10 mins and then i get an error

Please somone help me i know somone has to knwo what this is or how to fix it
THanks in advance
That WM6 is compiled for TiOmap 850, though they are both arm based I do not believe it will work on the samsung system.
damn that sucks thanks for the info man i appreciate it
it will work with 8125 or no
wrong device
This is for wizard devices, won't work on your hermes!

I think you meant NO not "now" it makes a big different for us.
SDinsider posted pics of crossbow running on a TyTN. They're in the Crossbow thread.
I can confirm crossbow is compiled for the hermes as I saw it running on an 8525 at a recent microsoft launch event. it will probably never be available for us though since I saw that the hermes successor is already announced with the main difference being that its gps antenna has been connected.
Hey, that's marketing for ya. The hermes has the chips, but the next gen lets them work, progress.
Well I love my hermes, best PPC/phone I've had yet, but I'd shell out more money in a heartbeat for the next gen with integrated GPS and crossbow.
You said that it's announced? What's it called and where can I read about it??
Thanks for any direction!

The Titan is the successor to the Apache.
it´s alive
GUys, every week I have a business meeting with the Windows Mobile BG @ BMicrosoft Brazil, and every time I still keep asking for the Hermes WM6 ROM, because there is one for sure and I don´t care if it will be official released form Htc, just keep on trying, we can do better customizations here at xda dev.
Any last minutes news of when will HTC officially come out with WM6 for the x7500? Will Blackberry Connect be included by any chance?
BTW, search Nazis I did searched.

You may be telling half-truth about searching You would have found that it is now scheduled for 27th July
Shame on me. I humbly bow to your vastly superior search abilities.
Now seriously, Thanks!
Will this one be expected to be any different than then x7500 WM6 rom being already posted here? Blackberry Connect?

Yes shame on you, if you read anything about WM6 in general you would have known the official WM6 won't work with Crackberry connect. Until Crackberry connect client supports VM6, only hexed version of WM6 will work with it. I believe a few people were working at hacking the Crackberry client to make it work with any WM6. Use the search again to see if there is an update on the hacked Crackberry.
Too late for me. I already flashed mine to WM6, so now Mr.SearchInept (me) has to find a way to make BB connect work. I did find a hex edit hack by c0rnholio that apparently works. So there's hope for me after all (I mean in searching)

WM6
i called the UK help desk today with a few questions and the told me that the update for WM6 is scheduled for mid september.
There seem to be a lot of different WM6 variants kicking around this forum which seem to require various scary-sounding unlocking/tweaking to install.
What I cannot find is the latest estimates on when/whether the official HTC WM6 will be available? The HTC web site basically says "contact your operator" (in my case T-Mobile UK).

Hey Confucious,
I never realized how supportive you had been to the Athena Project until I visited Modaco today (hadn't been there in quite a while ). But seriously...Thank you. It's not just your financial contribution that helped this get off the ground, but your commitment and belief in the Project.
Nice one mate.

Dear Tom.Hazell,
Hi,
Unfortunately, at this time HTC and Microsoft do not have plans to offer Windows Phone 7 upgrades to any existing HTC phones. HTC is working closely with Microsoft to bring Windows Phone 7 to market later this year.
Thank you for contacting HTC
Best regards
Luke

Want to see what others are saying? Have a question to ask other HTC fans?
This has been known for a long time now.
I keep seeing different answer all over the place so thought I would actually e-mail them.
Their official stance has always been "No" since that post came out. It's only a matter of time til it's ported over like Android was. If you search you can find the post where someone shows WP7 booting to an HD2 already. I think the guys name is Cotulla?
Im surprised you even got a reply.......
