Wiki management question (Hermes <-> Trinity) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

After my first successful ROM reconstruction for Trinity I now know that both the Hermes_HowtoDumpRom and Hermes_HowtoReconstruct artical in wiki apply to Trinity as well.
Now I want to add my experiences on Trinity and the fact that it works on Trinity as well. Which of the following options do you suggest:
- have shared Howto for Hermes and Trinity Hermes_Trinity_HowtoReconstruct
- have a seperate Howto for each (Hermes_HowtoReconstruct, Trinity_HowtoReconstruct) and write changes twice
- other suggestions
I'll post this for discussion in Trinity section as well (hope that's allowed)

Just Point The Link From The Trinty Wiki At The Hermes Pages, And Change The Headers To Say For Hermes And Trinity. Easy
Cheers

There are many things that are equal in hermes and trinity, and some other things that are different.
I would suggest to use two different wiki page for Hermes / Trinity stuff... and if something is already on the hermes wiki, just create for example "Trinity_HowtoReconstruct" page with this content:
Code:
Same instructions on hermes apply for the trinity: [Hermes_HowtoReconstruct]
If there are some differences for trinity, you can add them in the trinity specific page.
Other solution is to directly link the Hermes page on the trinity main wiki page and put a small note saying that this is hermes stuff but works on trinity as well... as I see this is what you've already done and avoids maintaining duplicated content.

Extension Roms

I can't seem to find any information about this anywhere. What do extension roms do? add apps and features?
probably you mean Extended ROMs? See the sticky posts and the Hermes wiki...
yes I mean extended roms. I looked at the page again and still don't see any explanation of what extend roms do just a list of the vague filenames contained within them

Questions I still have after reading thru forums

1. How can WM roms be distributed? Win2K and other OS cannot be redistributed in this fashion.
2. How might a 3rd party rom conflict with or omit information required by carrier (Cingular, etc.).
3. What are the basic pieces/components in flashing and how do they relate to each other.
A link to a page I perhaps haven't found will be fine, thanks.
I have upgraded my phone to new AT&T roms and am wondering how much new/needed functionality I'll get from a custom ROM. A link or info on most compelling features from new roms w/be nice.
I have burned ROMs for embedded devices (modbus), various ipaqs and routers (wrt54gl/dd-wrt) but need more info before proceeding with flash of my phone.

1. There is a thread running describing everyones opinion on this. Search for "legal ROM" in hermes section
2. read wiki - Hermes for Beginners, search for "ext rom".
3. read wiki
if you post another thread like this and someone says "rtfw", that means "read the f*king wiki". I would suggest you start there. Click on the link in my signature.
Good Luck, and make sure you do LOTS of reading before you start to flash.
1. Forum search on wm6 pirated (or find the thread in the WM6 subforum). Good dialog on that issue.

2. Check the WM6 forum for the Custel Cingular thread (for example) and search for wpbear cingular. Good info.

3. Read the wiki for Hermes - talks about the bits and pieces.

Sorry I don't have time to link all the threads for you atm.
edit: nm - grabbed the links - thanks for doing some reading before you asked.

Any chance of a Charmer ROM Kitchen?

With the experience the Charmer WM6 developers have already gained would it be possible to create base roms that we can play with ourselves along with a user guide?
I quite like the idea of being able to add my own packages within a ROM but don't know where to start.
I have seen on the Wizard forum a list of available packages that can be used within the various kitchens and assume that these would be compatible with the Charmer
Thanks

HELP !! got my x7510 in chinese

Hi people
I am looking an official rom in english or spanish for x7510
is theres any way to change it alredy?
you can use ap4 but its not offical
Will that work? He might brick his device (X7510).
No way to use X7500 rom on x7510, the older has the MICRODRIVE and needs specific drivers
I thought AP4 was done with partition to accommodate the newer x7510.
I am still using AP4 and found device name shown was x7510, on x7500.

Agree, but the AP4 rom was modified by PAWEL to work in the X7500. Even a small HW modification (MicroDrive drivers) could give unexpected results.
Pawel is a great cook and his job is really impressive but AP4 was X7500 -X7501 only release

your right, where is my head, in my a$$?
Sorry coolaptops for the bad advice. thanks mod for staying on top of things
To make sure that 7510 owners do not use any ROM on this forum, I think all posters of ROMS download should edit their old posts to prominently display warnings.
lol, of course to display warning, not earning.
Gooc icea, but warnings might be more useful

[KITCHENS & OEM PACKAGES] Raphael GSM Devices

There are many chefs that provide quality ROM's for you to use.
However, if you've gotten excited about the idea of cooking your own ROM, you're going to need a kitchen. ROM kitchens typically contain a relatively recent version of a mobile device operating system along with applications that ensure that all of the features of a device remain functional.
As chefs become proficient in the culinary arts, many of them wish to offer a little "something" back to the XDA community in the hopes that it will benefit others. So as to further encourage this willingness to help and share with others, we have created pages in the XDA-Wiki which permit chefs to post their kitchens if they so choose.
This thread will serve as an index, of sorts, to the kitchen related XDA-Wiki pages.
About the XDA-Wiki:
The information is available to all users and naturally being a wiki, everyone can contribute to it. We will be monitoring ALL changes and ask that the system not be abused.
Windows Mobile:
Windows Mobile device kitchens for Raphael GSM devices can be found here:
Raphael GSM Kitchens for Windows Mobile link
Some Users share new or original so called OEM packages for use in these kitchens, you can find these packages here:
Raphael OEM Package Repository
Linux:
Linux mobile device kitchens for Raphael GSM devices can be found here:
