Ok Noob Qustion about unlocking. - G4

WHats the difference between CID unlock and just unlocking? is CID imei unlocking????? I get confused when I see threads talking about unlocking g4 devices but then I see thins about paying to get it done

It is all one in the same. CID is an unlock specific to your IMEI. The only way to get our G4 devices unlocked is to pay money to IMEI-check.co.uk. Is cost about 38 bucks.

so me wanting to move to windows mobile 6 isnt a reality because i need to CID unlock it correct?????

no, you can do it. Look here

I just chose to unlock mine because I hate having any kind of restrictions on a phone that I paid $500 dollars for, since I did not sign any kind of service contract.

I've herd about some of the WM6 roms that the button layout is messed up.... like the w is really a k and so forth.... is there a fix where u can correct that?

I have no clue on that, mine has been fine. Check the WM6 forums and read up on the different ROM's before you get to deep.

tytn/m3100 question

hi guys,
so far ive unlocked the sim from my orange m3100, installed windows 6, some nifty tools,
and im over the moon with it all!
now, my question is this , ive had to (for reasons i wont go into) default on my orange contract of three years, and so the unlock, and move to 02,
now, i havnt IMEI unlocked,
do you think, in a fee weeks/months, etc orange will IMEI brick the fone?
even if i settle what i legally owe them?
is it worth forking out the 20 quid to have the IMEI unlocked?
thanks for any input guys n gals!
thanks for the info so far on the rest of the site!
if you are on about imei-unlock.co.uk they dont unlock the IMEI they unlock the SIM of the phone. If you dont pay your bill, of course they will block the IMEI. Maybe they might not block the IMEI if you pay the outstanding bill, but you will have to discuss that with them.
Anyway i will say this again so you are clear imei-unlock unlocks the SIM not the IMEI. Oh and you wont find any tools on here to unlock the hermes IMEI either. So pay the bill or get blocked mate . your choice

paying the outstanding bill is not a prob, fella.
im worried they'll brick me cos im defaulting on the contract (legally though)
looks like i'll have to throw myself on their mercy...
as ive had the phone two years, by god, theyve got their moneys worth out of me (rip off bstards)
hah
As I'm in Australia I can only comment on here... BUT, if the contract has been paid out, then the phone, with it's IMEI, are legally yours... If they block it you could take it up with your countries version of Consumer Affairs... Most contracts in OZ run that you pay the outstanding contract (and any handset repayments) and you can walk away with no problem. They are legally able to block the IMEI IF you don't pay the handset charges BUT they are generally included in the final payout they request.
Once all charges are paid the contract becomes null and void.
Cheers...

At&t won't unlock my Aria

I understand there are two ways to unlock your HTC aria.
One is to buy the unlock codes on some website.
The second, free way is to call AT&T after three months and they will unlock it for free.
However, I have called AT&T twice and they don't have the unlock code available even after giving them my IMEI number. I'm puzzled by this. Is anyone else having the same problem? They said the computer or database don't have the Aria unlock code in the system. What's going on here?
Big brother just tricked you. They are tracking you now. Throw the phone away. Use cash only. Don't use your real name.

AT&T doesn't have to give you the unlock code for the Aria until the exclusivity for that device has expired. Your only choice for now is to unlock it using a third party website.
Get the unlock code through a website like the most of us did, its just $15 or $20 bucks and they send you an email with the code almost instantly..

be sure to search ebay first. i found an unlock code for my backflip for only 2 dollars, the same for a few other phones I've had!
!
You know...I'd be interested to find out how these unlock codes are generated...seems like people are robbing people of their money when they are selling these things...it probably isn't the easiest thing in the world to figure the algorithm out (if that's how they do it) but i can only imagine that once you do figure it out, it's a short process thereafter to generate unlock codes for people based on whatever information they need...

there is software that does this. unfortunately i think they require a USB Dongle to run the s/w and it is expensive.... until the Russians crack it anyway. LOL
anyone suggest a reliable unlocking site?? there are so many scams out there taking money and not producing a usable code.
Most of the unlock website I found are reliable as far as give me money back when they can't get it. ATT and quite a few inexpensive website can't unlock my Aria. Some on top of refund, give me free unlock code for future. I end up found someone said "doing it manually". Took him 3 day and $25 later, he gave me the code.

rooting just gives you the "ultimate-true-genuine" etc rights to modify the phone the way you want it
to unlock the phone it's a different story. You will only need to unlock it if you're traveling outside the US
Or to switch to T-mobile.

Last sentence not quite correct; a clarification. You don't need to unlock if you travel outside the US. The Aria works just fine in other countries; you will incur additional costs as a result because you are roaming on foreign networks but AT&T has plans you can buy ahead of time and terminate when you get back home. Now the clarification part: if you do have an unlocked phone you can use a SIM card from other providers in other countries (which you will have to purchase or borrow from someone that lives there). Unlocking simply allows you to use another SIM cards, fore example, like Tmobile (a GSM network) in the US. If you don't unlock, your are limited to AT&T SIM cards. Unlocking is really not necessary unless you want to run on different networks in the US and outside the US.
Don't worry i will help you...You can get the Unlock code better from Online site,Basically network provider ask you to wait to get the code from them, they will give the code,it's available in Data base,So if you need Code immediately means you can get the unlock code from here www.Superunlockcodes.com and get the free unlocking instructions from here Mobileunlockguide.com and unlock it step by step.

I travel quite a lot through Europe and since AT&T's roaming charges are quite high, I had to unlock my Aria so that I can use local GSM carriers over there. I used www.cellunlocker.net last year. Their "regular" service for $4.99 was not able to produce the code for my Aria and they gave me a refund. I then purchased their "advanced" service for $19.99 and had the unlock code in 3 hours.
One more note about the benefit of unlocking: Once your phone is unlocked, it stays unlocked. So you need to purchase and use the unlock code only once.
it's a maybe

Questions about those GSM unlock codes.

I posted these questions somewhere else but I did not get satisfying answers. So I thought I'd take it to the experts.
Well I found unlocked Atrix phones being sold for $800+ on ebay. But of course I'd rather try buying the unlock code myself from websites that offer this service.
I'm new to Android and never thought an unlock could be this simple compared to what I used to do with iphones!
My questions are..
1.Once the unlock code is entered with success, Does that make the phone unlocked forever? Or I need to keep the key and re-enter in cases such as formatting the storage drive or factory reset..etc?
2.Should there be any difference between an AT&T Atrix unlocked using a code and the Atrix to come later as the international version (Manufacturer unlocked)?
I'm just curious to know how would the phone still be unlocked if it needed a complete format in the future?
Thank you
1. Unlock codes are permanent
2. If an international version gets released, it MAY have a different firmware, and different apps preloaded. So it may come with HSUPA enabled and probably less bloat. But it would be just as unlocked as an AT&T one with an unlock code.

actually i can answer the second question.
the UK version is a dumped version of the US one. as far as i know, there is no 4G in it. who knows if they will dump something else.
i think there is no 4G network at all in UK. maybe there is
as for the first question. i would an answer my self too. and i think that the answer is a NO. you dont need it. but i am not sure
i also have a question on my own i want to ask. if i buy the atrix now without the unlock code. can i still access the phone like as a media player, video player and net ? or i am stuck at the boot screen ?

Yes you can.
I've been playing with my Atrix, customizing it and installing apps for 2-3 days now with no SIM inside (until I receive the code I ordered from cellunlock.net)
On first boot it will ask you to create a motoblur account and then you can skip the "no sim found" screen.
Thank you

no dead pixels and not interested in selling.
I just got the Atrix unlocked to STC now. Everything did cost me around 2450 SAR (+I will spend 330 SAR on a 32GB class 4 microSD tommorow).
If you think this cost is ok. PM me and I will guide thru everything I did.
Thanks and gold luck.

shokran { thank you }
i already ordered mine yesterday from amazon.com waiting for it to ship to aramex shop & ship,
then i guess i will have to buy the unlock from celluck.net for another 200SAR.
but the total is more than what you told me the price of the phone alone with tax before it arrive to aramex is something like 653 $ tax included. i think 200SAR for shipping here and 200SAR for unlock. and we are close to 2800 SAR if my math is correct.
its just that i want to buy another one and i will pay around 2800 SAR if you are in riyadh and intrested to sell your phone " you will make a profit " because i need another phone

[Q] Can you sim unlock the Atrix yourself?

I know that people have been going with cellunlock . net for their unlock codes but was wondering if you can unlock it yourself somehow. I unlocked the Samsung Captivate myself as the unlock code was hidden on the phone. Just basically wondering if I can save myself $20 somehow if that was possible. Thanks in advanced.

nope it isn't possible like that. but on the bright side. Once it is unlocked it is permanent so even if you flash an .SBF or anything it won't relock

Atrix unlock available from ATT Aug 22nd 2011
I am moving to China and plan to use my Atrix there. I JUST got off the phone with ATT and they told me that they can give me my unlock code (because I am moving out of the country) BUT not until, on or after the 22nd of Aug 2011. Lucky for me that is right when I am going to China. So, if any of you "plan a trip out of the country" then you can get your unlock code from ATT for free.

It worked first time. They mentioned that 5 unsuccessful trys would sim lock the phone

lol i called att and they wouldnt give it to me, but seriously i only payed 3 dollars to a guy on ebay and had it unlocked first try. dont pay 20, the 3 dollar guys are just as good. just check their feedback first
Well that sucks that we cannot unlock this ourselves. I mean you can Unlock an iPhone without the need to call I even unlocked a Few HTC Android devices as well, and good point we can unlock the bootloader but can't unlock the code... Maybe just not enough interest shrug.
Not trying to plug anyone or anything but I just unlocked my "Bell Canada" Atrix.
I used cellunlock.net The code cost 40$ but I used the promo code for 50% "android50" or something (Google it) also they were having a 50% off sale so I got it for only 10$.
The good:
It worked!
They did not over charge me (10$ USD)
The bad:
It took them almost a week to get back to me with the code, I thought they may have scammed me but they did finally email me with the code 6 days later.
They mailed me 2 codes ####### or ######## I used the first one but why 2 codes???
Hope it helps!!

I think there is a server that they connec to where the imei is listed with the unlock codes.....

need some serious help please :(

Hey everyone ... first of all I want to say sorry if this is not the correct place to post this but I really need help. I bought Xperia X10 this morning (found it on Craigslist) and the person I bought it from told me that it will work with my t-mobile even tho its branded with at&t! I believed that person and got home charged the phone because it had less than 2% battery when I bought it ... anyways, its NOT working. It asks for unlock pin for the sim card. I didnt know what to do so I called the ATT people and she said that she is not able to get the code and she also said that I can get the code from ATT After JULY!!! I dont know HOW she came up with that date but I dont think I can wait that long. I have been on the computer ALL day searching for what to do and learned lots of new things lol but I still didnt get it unlocked ... I read there that ROM or custom rom is like a firmware? I think I can do something if someone guides me in right direction .. and I also looked at those websites where they SELL the code for about 40-50 bux and I think its too much cause I already paid so much for the phone so Please some one help me cause Google always guides me to the infamous XDA-Devs forum .... thanks in advance and once again, sorry if this is not suppose to be here! Feel free to PM me with any info that could/would me!!!

Those sites are the only ones that unlock it. IM afraid that u will have to go with at&t or pay 50$ to unlock it.

When you say those sites ... which ones do you mean? Do you know of any that's TRUSTABLE and reliable? because I have read lots of bad stuff about HTCCode and CellUnlocker is way too expensive and I don't even know if its reliable.
And yes I wish I could whip that ***** but I got the phone for a good deal and I don't think that I will ever see her again lol
All the ROM flashing, unbranding, and rooting procedures out there should never be able to unlock the SIM for you.
AT&T makes you wait several months after the purchase of their phones before they provide unlock codes for them. That's their policy.
If you want to go with a paid service, some have had luck with a place like FastGSM (www.fastgsm.com/en), so you can always check that out. Paid services usually charge something between $30 and $50 (U.S.D.).
There is supposedly a simlock calculator application for Windows out there that works for HTC and Sony Ericsson phones (http://youtu.be/DsBKpTLZMrA). If you're willing to risk going through the hoops in order to try downloading the .EXE, you can try it out (http://simlockcalculators.net78.net/?p=24). Just be sure to use an email account you don't care about and anti-virus scan the heck out of any downloaded files afterwards.
The davinci team is good too

I was told "NO". You cant do anything with sim lock other than pay for the code and get it ... no other way around it.
