Hi,
I already spent hours to find an application which can show me the Cell-Id & Signalstrength on my Tytn.
Tried Celltrack, Nicetrack: both CI not shown.
Fieldtest shows a lot of information and measurements except the Cell-ID..
Commmgrpro shows the Cell ID but nothing more (and is i rather big program).
Is there someone who already succeeded ?
It would be very nice if there could be a Today Plugin which shows the Cell-ID (and eventually the capability to link it to a database) & Signal Strength (dB) on the Todayscreen ?
What I already read in different forums it's a matter of knowing how to reach the RIL.dll file to capture the Cell-ID etc...
Anyone who can help me?
From what i know if your using 3g or UMTS then cell id is not broadcast in the same way it is for 2g. No 3G phones i have seen show cell id.

Senergy, also 3G cells have a Cell ID (I'm a fieldtechnician for a GSM Operator).
Commgrpro also shows the Cell-ID when on 3G.
In the meanwhile I also tried CellProfileSwitcher (http://maniac.fschreiner.de), but also no Cell-ID shown :-(

CommMgrPro shows Cell ID, Location Area Code and Signal strength in GSM and UMTS. If you need more info may i can include it....
I also tried Cellprofiler (www.cell-profiler.de) -> Also not working (COM2 fault message).
This program can show the Cell-Id information on your Today screen (Today Plugin).

Daniel, until now you seem to be the only one who knows how to implement Cell ID (on a HTC Tytn) into a program ;-)
Keep on the great work, I also use the commmgrpro for the moment.
Maybe you can create an option in your program to show Cell Id & Signal Strength (in dB) as a Today Plugin ?
Hi Davw.
Right now I am working on a today plugin for CommMgrPro. It will show those values you re requesting...

This program also is capable to capture the Cell-ID for Location Based use (Profilechange/Alert).
But to see the Cell-ID you have to enter the settings of PhoneAlarm, no CellID displayed anywhere else.
Result: very short life time of this one on my Tytn .........

You're wrong, sorry. There are skins which are abilited to show the group name of cells.
You have to activate it into the "Scroller" advanced settings, and if you have a skin with a text area enablet, it will show infos.
from pAlarm userguide:
Scroller FULL
Use this to configure which items are shown in the Rotator element available on some
skins (if you skin doesn’t include this element then there is no performance effect from this
item!).
Switch every Items will be shown one at a time. Recommended delay 5 seconds.
Scroll Items will scroll one after another across the screen. This has a small
affect on performance as updates need to be performed several
times per second!
search for a skin into their forum.
- For CellProfiler, it works WELL with my Herm200 WM6 LVSW, i'm actually using it because palarm has too many features 4 my needs, however the com2 error is shown, but i've disabled the communication over GSM-Modem, and he learn/detect cellID.
- The only issue (and i'm asking for it) is that when it show a notification (classic WM6/5 notification), there is only the "hide" button, so i press it, and the notification icon remain active on the top bar (showing CP).
- Also i think that the com2 error is because it isn't started.. with taskmngr i've seen that com2 port is NOT started. I don't know how to start it & associate it to RIL... maybe someone is + documented/capable..
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Edit<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
From nicetrack forum:
unfortunately, NiceTrack doesn't work with Hermes/TyTN. i also tried to send AT commands with ComTest, but with no luck. i assume internal modem in Hermes is hidden under >COM9, or it works in some other way than usual. there is a FieldTest.exe application within Hermes' \Windows directory, which shows *a lot* of GSM/BTS data. this means there is some kind of API to get them, other than AT commands... -- Dawid 'evad' Lorenz
I've splitted with the gpspanel the COM6 (shown as RIL on COM 6 with tomtom) to COM2, now the error is: "Failed to GetCommState". Now... someone MORE EXPERT can do an hypotesis?

Skizzo,
Maybe a stupid question, but as I don't find it: Where exactly did you disabled the communication over GSM-Modem ?
into CellProfiler oprions, the first... remember to accept with OK (Top right corner) and not with red X (it closes).
I've also prepared a script (with mortscript) which starts it in auto (don't seems to work wit the options) & minimize / remove com2 error on startup :
Sleep 20000 (wait 20 sec to pick up signal)
Run \Program Files\Cell Profiler\Cell Profiler.exe
Sleep 2500
MouseClick 198,103
Sleep 900
MouseClick 212,64
Sleep 900
MouseClick 103,306
LAC instead of CI
Skizzo,
I disabled the communication over GSM-Modem in the CP program.
But now CellProfiler doesn't show the Cell ID (of my Best Server at that moment) but the LAC (Location Area Code)...
Big difference between those 2 parameters ....
Today will be out the next version of ComMgrPro beta with a today plugin showing CellID and LAC, working in 2G and 3G...

I will try ComMgrPro (..i've tried all software with cellID).
@danielherrero: if you need "an hand" with the graphic..
Ps:
- how do you obtain CELL information from RIL?
- by the sim or The GSM Modem?
- which port has it on the hermes? (com2 is closed..)
- do you need an API interpreter to send/receive AT commands?

...i hope are 4 you... but don't be too specific, because i don't understand a LOT in this "branch"
1) Using Ril.dll and gettings references to the functions.
2) nop, using ril
3) no ports, only ril
4) no commands, only ril
Tried phonealarm again and gave it up after more then an hour.
Finally saw the Cell ID, but no refresh... (choosed 3 secs in the program).
Also have the intention that PA slows down the PPC a lot...(this while most functions don't interest me).
I'm almost sure that daniel's (coming) today plugin of his commmgr will be a lot more reliable

For a while now I've been running AP4 and like a number of people here, I found that the GPS intermediate driver did not work properly. The GPS ID is, of course, the utility that allows multiple programs to share the GPS device and is controlled by the External GPS utility in Settings. I found that my programs could access the GPS using whatever program port I selected in that utility-- provided the program I was using allowed me to select the port myself, like TomTom or Google maps when set to specify the port. This also affected the GPS Photo function in the Camera app-- you'd get an error saying "Could not initialize GPS." This workaround fixes that as well.
However, in programs that attempt to automatically connect to the GPS using the External GPS applet-- such as GPSToday or Google maps when set to use Windows settings-- the GPS would apparently turn on (the red light starts blinking) but the program would never obtain a fix.
I've finally figured out how to fix it (pun intended).
For those of you that have been around the block a few times, here's the short and simple fix-- extract gpsid_HTC.dll from the AP3 Dual ROM and copy it to \Windows.
For newbies, here's the details of how to do it.
First, download a copy of AP3 Dual and extract it to a folder.
Then, download the Irus Rom Kitchen.
Extract the contents of the kitchen somewhere. You'll end up with a folder called rom tools.
In this folder, run the program called "NBH Extract tool." Click "decompile NBH file," then point it to the RUU_signed.nbh file in the AP3 Dual folder. Tell it where you want to save the extracted files and click OK. This may take a few minutes.
Once you've done that, open a command prompt. and go to the folder where you extracted the ROM kitchen. For example:
cd \
cd c:\rom tools
Then use the imgfsfromnb utility. For example, if you extracted the NBH to c:\ap3, type this:
imgfsfromnb c:\ap3\Windows.nb c:\ap3\imgfs.bin
It will create one more file in c:\ap3.
Then run the final command:
imgfstodump c:\ap3\imgfs.bin
This will dump the contents of the ROM to a subdirectory called "dump" under the folder where the ROM kitchen was extracted. If you extracted the ROM kitchen to c:\rom tools\, then under that is a folder called dump.
This will take several minutes to extract. When it's done, you'll see a whole bunch of folders under dump. The one you're looking for is called gpsid_HTC.dll. In that folder are seven files, but the only one you want is called gpsid_HTC.dll. Copy that file to the storage card on your phone.
Then use your favorite file copy utility on the phone to copy gpsid_HTC.dll from the card to \Windows in main memory. I had no success copying the file from thie PC directly to \Windows on the phone using WMDC, which is why I copied it to the card first. Reboot the phone and it's all set. Google Maps and GPSToday can obtain a fix without specifying a COM port, and GPS Photo works!

Edit - nm, dl'd and uploaded here.
Will this gpsid.dll fix the Google Maps position error? What I mean is that some times, in Google Maps, I hit "My Location" and it registeres like at least 2 or 3 miles from where I'm at. However, the location 'radius' sometimes cover where I'm actullay at.
Not as far as I know-- this only fixes the problem that Google Maps can't get a fix at all unless you manually specify the COM port.

Same here. It does not fix it. In fact, it disabled GPS completely in every single GPS application. They just can't find my GPS anymore. I had to hard reset to recover. I tried in on Mutou's ROM version 1.

Hi Folks,
thanx to the hard work in this forum I can solve 99.999 percent on my own.
But I have a rather curious gps behaviour.
Everytime a program connects to gps my GSM orange alert LED starts blinking even my phone is off. Furthermore I have the other problem: satellites yes but no fix nor any reception at all.

I tried a new radio (1.57/1.58), new ROMS (AP4, AP3, Irus, etc), hard/soft-resetted many times but still now chance at all. With this file my last hope was gone.
I don't know what else can I do? Any suggestions, please?
Thanx!
Unfortunately the GPS system in the Athena is very picky. Look through the sub-forums for a popular thread that discusses good settings, for starters. Then realize you will never get a position lock when you are inside. You must be outside, usually in a car is fine. Sometimes it will maintain a lock inside a house but not always. It also can take some time even with the best of conditions.
I got tired of seeing the blinking LEDs, so I disabled them in the registry. I believe all of them do still blink even when the unit is in standby.

Thank you for your idea, my LEDs are disabled too. But in the moment I use GPS the orange LED is blinking.
Tried it the whole night ouside with an external antenna - which worked great with my BT GPS - and I tried it one afternoon at 3000m and a very good 360° sight.
Even the beginner thread (best GPS settings) I read 2 or 3 times as well as the other "gps not working" or "urgent help gps" threads.
The thing is, I don't get signal anywhere. Satellites yes, but no signal? There has to be a way, broken antenna would not see any sat so it has to be software relevated.
With ceMonitor the gps was responding $GPSA etc. but no fix, only satellites. So GPS is there, is reporting satellites nearby and other devices find at last some sats, perhaps not a fix?
TouchPro INDOOR after less than a minute.
For sure I tried QuickGPS and without of course.
Any other suggestions? Radio ROM brick?
I had this sat available and no fix mystery long time ago.
Tried many different rom, none really solve it. Worst with ship rom.
What I discovered lately, I wouldn't dare to say sure work, perhaps give it a try.
Set the hardware com5 baud rate to 115200. Config the gps software baud rate at
different selection. You need patience to monitor and find which setting is best.
Well, I was taught long ago on data comm, it must match but not with Athena.
I strongly believe the gps hardware in our Athena is somehow screw up big time at HTC.
Thanx pdajoy,
I used the last two hours trying your trick, but unfortunately without any results. Not a single peak movement....
I went up at around 2100 meters to have around 220° of sight, again, Diamond (QuickQPS data already expired) found in less than 1 Minute his fix and Athena (QGPS actual for 2 days) showed not one single reaction except to the satellite numbers. I compared them to my Diamond and it was 50:50. eg 27, 17, 9 etc. were same on both but others were different.
My present life of suffering was in ROMs:
AP3 -> AthenaUnlocker v3 (crashed, but restored after reflash) -> AP3 -> R 1.58 -> EnableRapi.cab -> AP4 -> Irus Vanilla 3.5 -> MichyPrima 5.1 -> Irus Full 3.5 -> AP4 -> AP3newslp -> SPL1.2Olipro -> AP3 -> HTC Stock German(latest from Website) -> R 1.57 -> R 1.58 -> T-Mobile Stock German (2.35.111.3) -> HTC Stock -> AP4 -> R 1.58
and in programs:
ceManager
NoniGPSPlot
TomTom7
VisualGPSce
GPSTester
Meanwhile I started counting hardresets but forgot to continue somewhere at 43. I love WM 6.1 ROMs much more now, no nasty softreset after software installation...
First I tried it by radio changements, followed by better software (NMEA reset...), different ROMs and tons of equal problems at google and several pages here. Isn't there any special radio I could flash, some mtty hex changing or any registry key?
Thanx!
NODeeJay, sorry to know it didn't work out.
On my crazzy Athena, fix established only with at least 4 solid satellite numbers.
If you are getting almost similar like the Diamond, my bet is the gps in Athena is fine.
I'm using GPSProxy 2.2, http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpsproxy/ fix time varies with
different baud rate setting but definitely get fixed, with any cooked rom here.
You may need to re-try and confirm the gps status without any other
program installed. Just the gps software.

OK, to understand you right without any other software:
HR -> AutoInstall -> EnableRapi.cab -> AP4 -> HR -> SR instead of AutoInstall -> .NET CF 3.5 -> SR -> GPSProxy -> GPSProxy options (Com Port, Garmin etc.) -> Start?
So my progress:
have done it like the above mentioned way, after GPSProxy install I set the VirtualComPorts to COM8 and COM9 then I mirror COM5 to COM8
then I press Start and wait.
After more than half an hour I have still:
I had a look at the Log:
Informations but no coordinates...
I should play with the baud rate on both sides now? hardwareport - baudrate - GPS Proxy - baudrate - softwareport
Another question: GPSProxy is nothing else than the build in "port proxy" aka "external GPS"?
Thanx in advantage pdajoy, really, I appreciate your help very much!
i have exact the same problem on my athena!search all posts here, never solve this
my only way is to use bt antenna.
Here is my setting for my Athena and GPSProxy.
Athena
- Program port: com8
- hardware port: com5,115200
GPSProxy
- GPS com port: com5, 9600 (set other value to try)
- Output com port: com8, 9600 (must follow com5 value)
Note: Do not tick Mirror GPS Input to Output Port
Back to Main menu - select Virtual COM Ports
tap once to Add, Virtual com port,
it automatically assign Com1, then exit.
If you use Garmin Que, then proceed to set virtual com port baud rate.
Select Garmin Protocol Output, Configure,
Port Type: Com Port
Com Port: Com1: (GPSProxy Virtual Com...)
Baud rate: 9600 (follow com5 value)
If not, just hit Start, first time run, fix will takes a little longer.
GPSProxy is nothing else than the build in "port proxy" aka "external GPS"?
Yes, it is, I use it simply because Garmin Que can't works with the Athena external GPS.
Hello All,\
I've made a little program called WifiLocations. It does a lot more then you might think, currently:
Current Version : V0.6
- Specify locations (based on GSM/UMTS Cell-ID) where WiFi will be activated automatically (and turned off when you leave)
- Specify locations where Bluetooth will be activated automatically (and turned off when you leave) or the otherway around (for headset/carkit usage).
- Specify locations where your ringer should be turned off or to vibrate (and back to previous state when you leave)
- Run a user-specified program when in specified location (and the choice of killing it when you leave).
- Name the Cell's so it's a little less confusing.
- Autostart on reboot-option
You don't need GPS for this!
CDMA cells are not supported, if you have info on how to read the ID's contact me.
If you think something doesn't work right, please let me know in this thread!
If you want to request a feature, please ask here!
I produced this because I use my incoming voip number a lot when I'm on wifi and I didn't want to activate wifi everytime I walk into a wifi-location (hence the name!). You can add your current location or walk around for 60seconds in your house to add all used GSM/UMTS-cellsites. (You have to add them both if your in a low 3g-signal area)
Well if you like it, let me know or even donate I've always wanted to go to st. Petersburg and trying to pay for a ticket by developing free software
Click on it to see the real status, this is just an image! Thanks!
Not for commercial use...
Free to distribute as long as it includes a link to my donation page along with the download link and a link to these forum pages.

Known Errors:
-WiFi in standby mode isn't functioning correctly I think
-Current Cell in mainform isn't updated until you restart
-Killing the app by pressing 'X' doesn't remove the trayicon
great tool thank you very much
Let me know if it works for you and what you what doesn't especially since I don't have a change myself to test is on other that gms/umts networks....
VERY NICE!!!
Just tried it, one thing, in the "walk around for 60 seconds" I did this, and it found another cell site, but it never added it.
Also, will it turn off the WIFI when out of range of the cell sites?
I will take a look at the 'non-adding-after-60-s' error tonight. And it should disable wifi when you're outside the reach of the gsm/umts-cell.
Actually it DID add it after I closed it down and re-started it, it now shows the other cell site.
thanks now I know what to fix when I get home! because the cell grabbing happens in another thread it can not directly change items on the gui thread! will fix this asap
Looks like a great utility.
Question : All it does is switch on the wifi? One still has to go through the login (for security enabled wifi) or other access means as defined at the particular hotspot ??
Btw, here is the site of a PC program that behaves more or less similarly. Perhaps useful for ideas ???
http://wifihopper.com/
Thanks
I think you're not getting the point of my application, it uses your Cell-position to activate your wifi. So you save battery and your voip protocol can be activated whenever you get to your home(or other)-cell... The wifi-profiles can be created through any wireless profile manager!

This should be solved now...
Nice app...I have a request that although probably not used by alot of folks it seems like a simple enhancement in "concept"....can you add the option to enable/disable BLUETOOTH instead of wifi based on location? I tether my phone to my house alot and use it as the internet feed...it would be nice if when I got to the home location it auto linked up with the pc and gave it internet without me having to think about it..the process seems the same. Am I off base?
Hmm upon further study it's not that simple...I'd also need to still run the internet sharing app...so perhaps not so simple.
@famewolf, I'll take a look at it. Never worked with bluetooth before, but I don't think it's much work.
I just created the application for personal use, because I tend to use voip a lot. I posted it here so so everybody could use it if they want to.
About the feature you request, you want bluetooth to be activated or does it need more functionality?
Well after thinking on it more it would take more than just activating bluetooth...would also need to be able to run a program when bluetooth was enabled so I'll just be thankful for what you provided. Your program will come in very handy when visiting my relatives...the cell reception in their house is crappy and I always end up enabling wifi and logging onto their router when in house to get email etc....will use your program to auto enable it.
Of use to people who "dabble" in voip....you can use fring and grandcentral to get a "free incoming" phone # that uses voip...and the new idialer allows grandcentral out calls as well....this would potentially works well with these apps...hmmm perhaps you SHOULD consider allowing the user to execute an app when wifi comes up or down so they can run whatever sip client they are using?
@famewolf, I think what you mention can be very interesting. I know that starting another app isn't a big problem. Working on the hiding of the form and autostarting now. Will add the functionality to start an app lateron.
Download new version, now includes working start-at-boot-mode and auto hiding the form. I want to change the complete set-up because it wasn't designed properly.... some other time.
I downloaded the current version; on my Sprint Touch Pro, it doesn't seem to see cell ids although it does seem able to turn on/off the wifi successfully.
good program. looks like the makings to the 'locale' program for android. If you added some volume profiles that would automatically switch you would be set. It would be nice to have my phone mute itself when i got to work and turn the volume back on when i left for home.
This program ist simply brilliant. If have been looking for something like this for a long time and programs like this one are the reason, I never got an Iphone.
One question though: your program seems to keep the Wifi connection alive all the time. Is it possible to add an option to have it running in powersave mode (i. e. power down in suspend mode)?
EDIT: Sorry to bother you. The behavior of the wifi energy save features has nothing to with your neat program. For some reason my wifi was hanging. It seems, I still have to get accustomed to my Touch HD (or the firmware bugs).
@twcook, I think that's because you're not on a gsm/umts network, I really don't have a clue how to solve that yet. I'll put it on the todolist. If anyone has information on how to get other that gsm/umts-cells let me know.
@nmeister, good one, put that on the todolist as well. But I won't be working on it a lot this weekend, got other plans.
tnx man, the program is perfectly working on tytn ii, its amazing. never need to touch comm manager for wifi...

DCD Carriers CABs
Good stuff! Just upgraded to it.. First point of note, You call it "Beta 2" in the rar file, but its known as Beta 1 in the ROM Update screen... Mmm.. I like the new boot splash, "Microsoft Internal Use Only" and all... I'll report more shortly...
OK... Preliminary findings:
1) GOOD NEWS! Push Mail works without any glitches! Flashed, Hard reset, soft reset, install DCD's Carrier, reset, setup exchange, sync worked, pushed mail, soft reset, still pushes.
2)The Titanium needs some work. Missing some text. You have to see it to understand.
3) HTC Task Manager's Quick Menu (the drop down on Today Screen) runs into the battery bar. battery bar needs to be move over a pixel or two.
4) Nasty dialer. Not going there.
5) The "Blank" sync conduit is still there during Exchange setup. I have screenshots if you want.
6) Windows Update is there... That needs to disappear. It doesn't have the right font. Yuck fu.
7) Skip Welcome needs to be added. The "How to use windows mobile" upon hard reset.
8) Encryption of card is NOT CHECKED now. It's greyed out even. Good stuff.
That's all for now. So far though, I like it!! I LOVE the new graphics! Very slick!!
Oh what the hell, I'll try a new ROM. Haven't in a while.
mr-free, this is the first ROM of yours I've tried. What are your steps for installation? Pllug in the phone and run RomUpdateInstallation or something else? TIA!
Yep... flashing now. Will report back.
Loaded fine, makes calls fine, but IE won't open and ActiveSync doesn't work connecting to Exchange 2003 SP2 and looks to have no data connection.
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To check your connection settings, select Start, then Settings, then Connections"
Support code: 0x85020006 (Appears to be a "no network" error code.)
Home screen shows EV, but 0 bars of service when I normally have 1 or 2 sitting here.
Great feedback report so far .. fix a few of them already .. including the dialer
Thanks again
and I'll like someone with Exchange 2003 to test sync as well..

You have to install the DCD Carrier Cab for your carrier before data works.

I don't think it had yet, as it was 3/2/2008. When it tried to sync with Exchange it said the SSL cert was invalid, but that was because the date was wrong on the phone so it thought the cert wasn't valid yet. Once I fixed the clock it hosed me. Restarted the phone and as soon as I enter my password it comes up with the error again and shuts off the radio. I'll upload a picture.

I'm doing a hard reset now to see if it'll happen again.
Hold on here, looks like I had an older carrier cab on my storage card.
dcd_Verizon_Carrier_20080719.cab
...going to try dcd_Verizon_Carrier_20081031.cab now and see if it makes a difference.
Ok the newer cab is helping, but not perfect yet. The expiration thing hasn't happened again thankfully.
ActiveSync started processing everything, but didn't finish. Hmm. It had one calendar item fail (no biggie, it happens), but now looks to be stuck. If I force a sync I now get error code 0x80070057.
The IE button, honeycomb shortcut, and the up/down today screen link all do not work.

Hi. I have GPS problems with my TP. Rom I use is
Energy Rom Genesis (20th September)
Radio: 1.14.25.05
and of course with WM 6.5 build 23016 v 5.2.23016
All apps like GPS test, ChartCross GPS test etc. are still i trouble connecting to satelites. There are that columns, which may be up or down, depends on signal (i suggest) but i have nothing there.. numbers are changing, but no signal, nothing. I tried to install iGo and TomTom and Garmin etc, they found GPS in phone, set it, but then half an hour waiting and nothing happened. It seems to me that there are smoe problems with maybe WM 6,5? Since I have WM 6,5 installed I meet this problems. there were no problems such this before.
I had gps problems with eliterc4(winmo 6.1) with the same radio version as yours. after I changed to energy rom build 21864 (winmo 6.5) I get a gps lock in about 12 seconds..
so it`s not winmo 6.5 fault. try to update your radio to 1.14.25.35
Same here,
The troubles I had with GPS fix were not related to the ROM version. I had the same trouble with several 6.1 and 6.5 ROM's
After switching to radio 1.14.25.35 I have a fix within one minute.
Of course, don't forget to use quick GPS to locate the birds to get a quicker fix.
have you tried the official gps fix available on htc site ? That fix solved all my gps problems
When you invoke GPS Test, what do you see. Are there any bars ? If yes then how many and what's the reading of those bars.
If you do not have any bars, click menu->GPS setting. Make sure it is Com-4 and 4800 baud.
Try GPS test outside (open air) and see if you get any bars. If you do then see if they improve by time. Usually first lock take 2-3 minutes, sometime more.
Do report here, and I should be able to help you.

i use port 38400 and fix is near instant from a cold reboot. with the .25.35 radio of course.
i use standart 4800 baud rate with com4, and before i start any gps navigation software i try to update quick gps, then run GPS tool to find fix and then TomTom or any other software

I have installed recomended radio, and drove by car like 30 minutes around trying to get signal from iGO, but nothing. GPS test freezes on "GPS Starting up" GPS port is on 4 and Baud rate on 4800(It is responding, so not ordinary freeze, but I mean that its just doing nothing).
There are several columns with numbers under them (or bars I sugest this is what you think) Numbers are following: 32, 24, 29, 02, 22 ,18, 04, 11 and they change (but after few minutes they are in this order, and then again some other variations) I think, that one of variations is starting with 30 and the other with number 17 HDOP is still 0,00 and FIX is 1D.
Or what should I try ? I have been using iGO GPS when I was on WM 6,5 I think already, It was PROven Rom, but I dont remember which version, so i cannot try to flash it and test it.
One more thing- GPS test has been running as I was preparing for a drive (maybe 5 minutes) on a parapet of an opened window, But it didnt catch a signal.
I have found GPS fix on HTC page, I will post some new experiences tomorow, please If you have any idea, tell me.
Getting a fix whilst moving is normally a lot harder than if you are static.
The Raphael GPS is not the best and can be quite laggy.
Ensure that AGPS is disabled as this is not supported by most cell networks at present. Update the quick GPS software.
Find an area with a clear view of the sky and you should get a fix within seconds.
AGPS is noramlly the cause of the GPS not getting a fix at all.
AGPS settings can be found in Setting\System.
Cheers,
Beasty

Hello everybody.
I just adquired Raphael from ebay and was having the same problem.
Or i did, all solutions provided are correct but for this particular problem they are not.
In short, was its the problem ?
Well, both HTC screwed up the Raphael perhaps in the rush of lauching it to the market, to achieve sales. Both WM 6.1 and 6.5 will sufer from this so there isn't a safe ROM or Radio.
The procedure to solve this is this webpage:
http://eduardoarruda.wordpress.com/2009/03/11/htc-touch-pro/
Ain't advertising nothing and don't know if i can share this page like this, but i have done the procedure in my HTC Touch Pro, and it has worked, Tom Tom 7 is now working.
Try it yourself (only if your GPS stopped working).
Pro: Works pretty well, gps takes a little bit to fix on satellites ~3 sec.
Against: Hard reset only when needed, when truly needed. Or do everything again.
Basically:
1 - Update ROM to most recent and the best for you.
2 - Disable HDSPA, it seems that it causes problems in connecting to 3G network
3 - Yes, you can update QuickGPS and follow the rest of the procedure which shows the shorcuts to edit the registry and images to ilustrate that.
If its necessary i can translate it, but dunno whose credits its belong.

if you're on AT&T, then use APGS
Also. if you go into GPS settings, make sure you have "auto" as port number.

Just wanna say, that those editing of the registry are working for both WM6.1 and WM6.5.
Its essential that you update the QuickGPS, since without it, it wont work.
By the way, it took 12 seconds to lock on satellites. Its not the best, but its better than nothing.

Have you tried the fix provided by HTC itself ?
When I first got my Touch Pro I was very disappointed with the gps support (well I was disappointed with almost everything). After numerous tests I have a combination that proves to be almost perfect.
1. I run the latest Shep rom (but I guess the GPS functionality is not closely connected with the rom)
2. I have radio 1.14.25.35 installed
3. I have the rilphone.dll from radio version 1.12.25.19
4. I have applied the GPS fix from the official HTC site
After these 4 moves I get a gps fix from cold boot in less than 30 seconds and sometimes it is even less than that.
The only small problem I still have is that if I am doing more than a 100 km/h on a high way I get a 2-300 meter lag. This lag stays almost the same up to 160-180 km/h. In lower speeds I do not face this problem. This lag I have figured also has to do with the port speed settings and I need to do some more testing with Destinator and iGO to determine the optimum setting. Most of the times I use the gps is for navigating down town where the speeds are low and so the problem isn't visible.
Since I am mentioning radios and rilphones I have to say that this combination also gives me the best signal reception and the battery usage is also low.

Sorry for the time passed.
But after some reading and some tests, here it goes.
_Crass_ just go to your registry and change the value of PollInterval.
Its value can be 100 or 500, tested with 500 and it takes some to update its position, but the satellite fix is fast.
The value with 100 it does the job, updates the position a little bit faster but the battery goes also a little faster, which i would say its pretty normal, since the use of GPS always require battery comsuption above normal.
The HTC fix speeds up fix (at least for me a noticed it), and unlike said in other topics, it ain't the same as GPSCleanData, since when it coldstarts it still has some data of satellites (its location are still present into the the gps program and its uploaded by the program almost instant), so it aint clean. Regarding the same program, tested it, and its slows down or even makes it impossible the fix of satellites.
Regarding to this, i had everything done without the fix, and watched the signal form satellites and then after some seconds it fixs. But then i had to hard reset, and took the chance to try new ways to speed it up. Besides all changes made, htc fix applied, as soon at it gets signal it fixes. A way lot better than before.
Regarding the procedure heres a link to that same topic in xda-developers.
U cant skip any step, or it wont fix any satellite. only "play" with the PollInterval. Change registry, SR, apply HTC GPS fix and then update QuickGPS. SR.
Tests were done with:
-> T*mT*m v7.915.9196
--> Iberia Map 835
-> G*rmin XT Mobile 5.0.0.20w
--> Portugal&Sapin 2010.20
By the way tried TT, and then shutdown (the program only), tried G*rmin. Started normal and takes the same time both. No complication encountered by changing gps program or no need for restart/SR. If u encountered a problem where by changing gps program u cant put the 2nd to work, i recommend to update your program to the latest buil. Its working fine.
Regarding times, i had a fix of 18 to 20 seconds (why so much time ?), here's why:
{

}
Well, i only had time to play wih it today, so i did tested, regarding in clean weather, i'm expecting 8~12 sec.
Another important, the PollInterval was tested by changing each value and go from one point to another and see if the GPS program manages to update position.
It was tested with both values, and each time i changed i did a SR.
Any more tries, i sugest that u show your test conditions so "we" can compare results. I also think that HTC Pro suffers form different problems regarding to its use, so therefore it may not work to someone in specific.

I tried, and it seems not having any much difference. I use TomTom with the GPSModDriver and Garmin with the original COM Port 4, i mean, one uses that driver and the other the original.
No difference registered, but if anyone that can at this moment hard-reset its device and test Mandragore solution, he/she would be welcome.
I have been reading the the posts and noticed a lot of simularities between the registry edit:
Mach2003 said:
Thanks for the report Mandragore, and for your support
Here is some information on the GPSID values (as I understand it, corrections welcome).
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
"IsEnabled"=dword:1 ; Set from External Gps\Access, Manage GPS Automatically, Must be 1 for GPS to work at all.
"MaxLogFileSize"=dword:0
"CurrentLogFile"=""
"OldLogFile"="" ; All three of these would just waste time and memory creating log files of all gps data
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers]
"InputBufferSize"=dword:0200 ; M$ allocates this to read the HTC driver
"OutputBufferSize"=dword:0200 ; Suggested size for the applications buffer size, ModDriver does not use this, but your application (mapping) may.
; A full string of gps data is 460 to 490 bytes long while fixed, CE likes things on page boundaries thus 512 bytes are optimum. Too high values just waste ram usage. As a side note, the M$ buffers allocated are probably done through a call to malloc, and malloc has a header and footer added to each call, so 512 might just waste a bit of ram, 498 might be a bit better).
"RetryWaitOnError"=dword:3 ; not sure if this ever happens
"SleepOnNoData"=dword:01f4 ; GpsModDriver reads this and uses it for napping between reads, data comes from gps at exactly 1 second, half a second allows for slight misses of the data. If we set this to 1000, it would be great, but a millisecond late, would cause an extra second delay. One could set it to a smaller value divisable into 1000 (1,10,50,100,200...), and thus reduce the delay when a string is missed, but then the overall proformance of the phone would go down.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOneDevice]

"DriverInterface"="COM4:" ; Set from ExternalGpsPrograms, GpsMod opens this port for reading data, m$ writes to this port
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice]

I prefer edit each one by myself, avoids installing bugging or unstable software by third parties. Besides the fact its working ... pretty good for a very unperfect device.
GPS pretty fastttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Ok, first sorry for the new post. Its a question of startover.
Manage to try GPSModDriver, and here comes the twists.
Tried and there wasn't too much difference regarding the changes in registry that we have seen in this topic. So i decided to uninstall it (vcersion 1.32) to try the newst release, 1.36. Unforntunately, that driver its a pain in regarding unnistaling, this should the first issue to solve in further builds.
So i had to uninstall it manually, i erased the Mach2003 (on My device) threw File Explorer, and then GPSModSetup on /Windows, to it would it be possible to install newest build.
Its a long story yeah ?
Ok, its almost over. I tried to install version 1.36 and it wouldn't because older version still present. I dropped the idea of trying new version and went test my gps programs to see if they still worked.
Now here comes the twists.
Regarding my TT, went back to port 4 and everything is worked as before.
That's ok, 15~18 seconds ain't bad.
Now, Garmin turn. Garmin itself doesn't allow to change port that easily, and thank you for it. Tested with port 4 and the same thing, same time, whatever .... But, this was one of those days, when i feel like truly to screw something up, and whent change the port again and try something different.
Hell yeah, why not ?
So i change to GPS intermediate Driver. Not usual, actually all instructions says to change from this driver.
So the results: I have a fix on satllite with a HTC Touch Pro in ~ 2/3 seconds.
I used shake and save to take this pictures (images on this link):
Here i have GPS Garmin GPS settings working with Port 4:
Now here is the GPS intermediate Driver:
The signal strenght on start menu from Garmin:
Now there are certain things, that should be better be told.
In first, don't now why, but Mach2003 folder with two logs files are still present and being created.
Second, this was done with cloudy weather again.
Third, the signal is a little bit unstable changing a little bit, but i'm guessing is due receiving different satellite signals.
Here comes the ****** part, it requires more time and a lot of testing. Trying the registry tweaks and see if it changes the Intermediate responses. And trying the GPSModDriver and do several tests with one and/or another together or apart and see which one its the best, for GPS fixing.
For now, i'm quite happy with Garmin. TT its loosing since i cant pick that specific driver port.
Oh i almost forgot to mention, the TT is working with integrated device well, fixing satellites and everything. But is a little slower to receive the signal and fixing than port 4. I'm keeping TT on port 4 and garmin on Intermediate driver, and still working as a charm. Lol 1~2 seconds is too fasttttttttt.
So that bit** ain't dead yet !!! If we can see why and built a cab package inserting the wright tweaks on registry, it could put Touch Pro back on the spot light.
I don't know why, but i got feeling, that if thats truly done, HTC will launch a new HotFix doing the same thing. But its just a feeling ...
Just remembered, will try use CleanGPSdata to see if my Po is stll QickGPS dependent* ...
*Hello, my name is HTC Touch Pro, and i am ashamed to say,... , i'm QuickGPS dependent. I'm trying this therapy group so i can give up this insane habit ... its killing me ...
Have no time now, but tomorrow maybe may post back something.
Didn't stop raining in portugal, floodings and etc ...
Later i will post back something.
Cheers.
The Gps bug affects all stock Xperia 2011 phones.
The bug is simple, i explain it better then possible:
i turn on the Gps, wait for a fix, and start to navigate, after 5 minutes the signal drops for about 30 seconds, then works for other 5 minutes and again drops, other 5 minutes and drops, and again again again
every 5 minutes the gps drops without exceptions
now the datas collected in months of this problem:
1) this happens with traffic data OFF, background data OFF, absolutely no contact to the network at all, and offline app like Sygic, Navigon, Copilot etc
2) this not happen with Maps, also in offline mode, with a little portion of map downloaded before, and no data traffic
3) this not happen with Data enabled or Wifi enabled
4) this also not happen in Flight mode, and perhaps it is the most important information, so is not an hardware problem.
5) with the build 3.0.1.A.145 this didn't happen with data disabled !
Here a log of the bug by a user with the same problem.

What do we think about? :
for an unknown reason Sony firmware attempts to collect data every 5 minutes, also if the phone have data disabled. If don't find data, there is a drop out !!
Basically A-gps works always, even if data are disabled (i have no data traffic, my sim is disabled for internet connection), and this must not happen, because it causes a drop, its attempt is not silent for who have data OFF.
P.s OFF topic replies will not be tolerated more.
This thread is for share real problem, confirmed by Sony itself.
If you don't see the bug, is better for you, but please don't discridit these words.

I hope you tried at Arc forum. Maybe you will have better luck.
Just one question though, have you tried ICS beta? Maybe they solved problem there, so it will be available when ICS comes.
A SW developer on talk.sonymobile says:
"I can now confirm that my fix will be included in the ICS update.
Since the problem occurs because the phone tries to connect to a server to download satellite orbit information there are there are three things you can do until you've got the ICS update:
- Download assistance data while connected to a Wi-Fi network. You can do that by installing the "XtraData Downloader" from Android Market. While on a Wi-Fi network press the "Download XTRA data immediately" button. Do this right before leaving the network since the data is only usable for a limited amount of time.
- Make sure that the signal conditions are good while using the GPS receiver. It will only try to connect to the server until it has successfully decoded the information from the satellites. If using the GPS indoors or while driving in a city the satellite signals will be too weak, but if using the GPS in conditions where the signals are not obstructed by buildings the connection attempts should stop after about 20 minutes when the information has been decoded.
- Activate the data connection (I understand that this is probably not a reasonable solution for you)."
We just have to wait ICS

You don't need to. You can just ask someone who is still using stock ICS beta, for example in official xda thread for ICS beta: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513172
Although I don't know if that bug is only on Neo or on Arc also, but I guess you know that
New demo video add in first post.
very embarassed bug, not expected from Sony
and also 6 months of wait
Inconceivable !!!
Not a problem I have... but then again, I use data. Because I can.
Have you searched this out? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250226
As for "Sony" being somehow bad, I suggest you try the Taiwanese or Korean brands and then comment. The "bug" is largely a Google/Android issue. Apparently.
Why don't you simply sell the phone and buy something that actually suits your needs? I'm not being anyway sarcastic, but that's what I would do... particularly as you have had this problem for ages and received no insight from any of the umpteen posts you have made.
The bug is "by Sony" in this case, because was introduced with the new firmwares.
When i bought the phone the Gps worked perfectly, or i would have return the phone to my local shop.
Now change it with Samsung or Htc, have no sense, i will lose 50% of the real price, for a problem introduced by Sony itself !
When you say "the bug is an adroid issue", you mean this Gps bug, or the generic world of bugs?
I never saw a Gps bug like this in any android phone.
I searched that discussion, and i wait for a reply by Crypted, the author.
GLONASS

I don't understand the first part of your reply, sorry, but my english is not too colloquial.
About the second part, my firmware is absolutely stock and not rooted, without change in the system.
4.0.2.A.0.62. The bug was introduced since the first 4.0 firmware, with the old 3.0 one was perfect. But i don't want to downgrade, old firmwares weren't so good and there is a lack of important features.
Actually i use Sygic gps navigation.
I repeat it: is not an app problem, but a system one, a real bug.
My firmware is appropriate for my region, it is that correct.

Yes, good feature, but useless if the Gps drops continuosly.
