Yes, you don't need activesync at all to upgrade the ROM, you can do it in 2 different ways:
1) flash from SD card
or...
2) Put your hermes in bootloader mode (side ok + power button + softreset) and start RomUpgradeUtility.exe then... click "next" several times...

Read the second paragraph here: Upgrading for beginners
For the first question, please read WiKi, in particular:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeFAQ
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
For the second question, for people that ask it the only answer is: the ROM that's already inside your TyTN.
pof, we were typing at the same time...
yes, and we gave him the same responses, in a different manner
So here it is.. this is an official release, just not officially to the public... I have posted 3 flavors of it... although word of warning, cingular definitely had their fill of bloatware with this one...
1. The original (WWE_2_1_.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108)
*edit if you have 1.01MFG bootloader the original will fail and your phone will be stuck in bootloader, you can fix this by using mtty and issuing the "set 14 0" command and soft resetting
2. Oli SPL 1.40, OS, Ext Rom, and 1.40 radio
3. Oli SPL 1.40, OS, Ext Rom
and as pof mentioned earlier you will need hardspl or sspl to flash #2 and #3
*thanks pof, i forgot to mention that
intentionally left blank
Thank You
Thanks Shogunmark. I downloaded them and will flash them tomorrow after getting some sleep. I've only been flashing roms for a month, but i've learned quite alot reading posts from you and the others who are far more knowledgable than myself.
gracias time to do some snooping
WOW!
Answer to my prayer....been going on here everyday, today the 11th 3am, and here it is waiting for me....thanx BuD-Dy
Yes It Works
ok i downloaded and installed the 1st one (original)
its great so far very stable but it is 335am in NJ...so you never know...but so far its working great....no flaws that i can see boot time is a lil longer..but other then that very stable..time will tell....
The full rom has IPL-1.03
Sounds Awsome...
Now can anyone PLEASE tell this newbie,
(1)
what's the difference between 1st ' The Original ' and 2nd ' Oli SPL 1.40, OS, Ext Rom, and 1.40 radio ' ... (i figured out 1st one is .exe & 2nd is .rar,so possibly more files; but which one is better?)
(2) How to flash / upgrade either of 'em onto Brand New Cingular 8525?
(is it possible to upgrade / flash from 2gb micro sd on the device itself?)
Thanks a million in advance, Jags
shogunmark
Can create one with
Oli SPL 1.40, OS, and 1.40 radio
i.e. no ext rom?
Thanks
Truthfully, if you don't already know the difference, use the first "original" file. Or, read the wiki, then decide. Either way, you got some learnin' to do before you try out #2 or #3. Good luck. If you do read thw wiki, you will become unhealthily addicted to your phone - just a fair warning.
Edit: Oh, BTW, the wiki will answer your other questions too. Too long of answers to rehash here. Finally, try forum and google searchesnext time. Great google search "tool" posted at the top of the Hermes forum.

Wow....
that was some reply...
been on many online forums & helped many on Sun/Solaris forums...
But here even "junior" members have attitude problems towards other junior members ( I would've NOT mind that from any senior member / moderator)...
Instead of typing all that, either could have said in two words "google & wiki" or could have saved typing that all (by NOT replyin)...
nevermind, I got to know xda developers firsthand.

Don't get upset for that... junor/senior/moderator means nothing

The original is signed by HTC and unmodified, will upgrade all your rom parts (including radio which can be dangerous if the upgrading process fails for some reason), and will upgrade also your SPL to 1.11.
The one including SPL-1.40 is not signed with the valid key, so you need to start the upgrade either using SSPL or by having flashed HardSPL on your hermes first. These are modified bootloaders which allow you to flash code without the proper signature, and will allow you to flash any rom on your device.

If you want the upgrade as provided by cingular use the first one, you will only be able to flash it if you have a 8525 (or another hermes if you have flashed HardSPL or made your device SuperCID previously). If you are somehow a bit "advanced" user and like to play with rom upgrades, and flash your device frequently, go to one having HardSPL.

Does this rom have Internet Sharing?
yes, all aku >=3.3 have internet sharing.
I apologize for displaying an attitude. I was really just trying to point you to a good source to get you prepared to do the kinds of things that the other versions allow. I was not trying flame you, just help you not brick your device. I do sincerely apologize if I offended.

Thanks Shogun.. Much appreciated.
Download option 2 as I’m more advanced these days. Will put in reserve in case I ever decide to downgrade from LSVW WM6.

Where is a list of known shipped ROMs?
The wiki isn't kept up to date!
afaik the wiki is quite up to date, but if you think its not...... i guess you need to do some searching in this part of the forum
(and if you find something that is not yet in the wiki, feel free to place it there!)

Cheers
I did search. I've been using forums before the internet was about. I noticed that the ROM that I have isn't mentioned. Then I noticed that someone has what looks to be an even newer one.
It's why I know the wiki is old, but hey what do I know I'm just a noob!

Check here for dumping a ROM
Hi,
I want to do something like that: I want to use last OEM WWE Niki Rom, and cook(rebuild) with more apps and better video drivers. No need to change anything else. So, I need an advice. I've searched in this forum and I found this cooking guide that seems to be very good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372469
The problem is, it's for kaiser. So, my first question is (the first of many) can I use the same method with (and for) our Touch Dual's? Or there's another software that I've not found?
yes they are simillar

Why do you want to flash a new Radio? If you´re running a stock ROM, the stock Radio is your best choice. Otherwise your costum ROM´s chef will let you know what Radio version that´s most suitable for that ROM.

Hi
Please DO Not flash any radio without doing the HSPL. Your device might stuck at bootloader or with the error messages. You must do the HSPL first then flash any radio or roms as you like.
Good luck

It wont improve your battery life, since it´s all stock. A completely wrong Radio-version could drain your battery life though.
My advice to you is to stay with your stock Radio for as long as you´ll stay with your stock ROM.
