Does anyone know of a bluetooth headset thats a phone-replica, rather than an earpiece? I know that sounds like a bit of an odd request, but the Hermes is a bit too big to look cool against the ear and, no offence, but bluetooth headsets seem a bit pointless unless you get a lot of calls, and even then you look like a bit of an idiot walking round talking to yourself!
So what I'd like is a small 'phone' that connects via bluetooth or whatever that lets me make and receive calls without having to mess about with my brick, or wear an earpiece all the time.
Is there anything like that out there?
Ideally I'd also like to have caller display, and send/receive texts on it too, but I'm guessing thats one for the future?
Cheers

I know what you're talking about. LG has one it is black and looks like a pen. I even think it has number keys.
I think this is a great idea. Something the size of Motorola Razr or smaller (and lighter) that you can carry on your waist with the real phone in your briefcase or backpack. I would buy one!!
You could try one of these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8928/.
I haven't got one yet, although the US to AU exchange rate is quite good right now...
C
Great idea....
now who will be daring enough to walk around there city while talking on it.
fairly easy enough to make though I guess.
Thanks for the replies, I looked at that big thing and was tempted, but was also thinking about getting one and fitting the bits into an old phone or something.
But now I'm thinking that I have so many free texts and minutes that I could just have everythign forwarded to another number, if I can find a program that wil forward text messages...................?

Phonealarm will do that...you can even set it up in a special location profile.

if the PDA phone is too big and bluetooth handsfree are too small then i suggest you buy a dummy phone set (display unit) and whan ever you answer your Bluetooth handsfree put that dummy set to your ear so ppl think you are talking to a phone....
in this part of the world ppl know there are blue tooth ear piece and why should i care of ppl what they think if i talk to my self or to some one else on a bluetooth handsfree....

You really are a bloody idiot aren't you. First of all you spend time knocking someone who is asking a simple question, then you make out it's silly when really there are good real world applications for this. You're just too damn ignorant and up your own bum to realise that. What does it matter to you? Do you think your opinion is really that worthy that you have to blurt it out even if it is not helpful? Are you that sad an unfulfilled in life?
Oh and for gods sake read his post properly before you mis-interpret it and add it to your idiotic retort.
Just a thought... Several manufacturers now offer bluetooth VOIP headsets. If these use the same protocol to connect to a bluetooth PC as a headset does, they could serve the wanted purpose...
(without display)
I personally use a Nokia HS-12W, which allows me to keep the TyTN tucked away. I haven't had any luck with getting the caller name to appear on the display though.

This has got to be one the funniest threads.
I think that the whole concept of a cordless phone for your phone is GREAT!
This will mean that we can truely acsend to super geekdom now.
remotes for cell for cordless for wired phones
Are implants next??
This concept could extend into the next millenium of useless gadgets and beyond...
N - I - C - E - ! - ! -!
I thought I'd revive this thread. I'm looking for the same thing.
Currently I have a Razr2 and a Palm Tx. I love the non-convergence as I can take notes on a bigger screen palm, while talking on a non-brick.
I was hoping for a Palm Tx replacement (non-phone w huge app store & bluetooth data) to come out, but there's none so far. The closest is the iTouch but it can't get online via bluetooth.
So, I'm thinking, what about doing it backwards? Get a nice big touchscreen smartphone from one of the big app-store companies to replace the palm. And a "feels like a razr, works like a razr" bluetooth earpiece that I'd use like a phone. I obviously don't want a second phone as I'd be paying for two voice lines monthly.
Has anything come out yet? A slim flip-phone-style bluetooth headset that has dialing, caller id, ringing, etc?

I need to go hold of some of the spare ear plugs that came with my Motorola S9? Is there anybody that could sell me theres if they have no need for them?
I need these as well... ie, the big fat ear plugs that come with S9. Unfortunately, they don't stick on as well as the 'open ones' do. If it accidently rubs against any clothing, it'll fall off. I lost the only set that I had and the 'open type' isn't as loud as I want it to be.
If anybody could help with this, it would be great. Spare ear plugs don't seem to be available anywhere on the net
Tell me about me! I called up Motorola and they just sent me from pillar to post. I had exactly the same problem as you and just lost one when it brushed against my coat.
If anybody knows how to source these please share.
Wam7... do you suppose we might be able to use ear buds from a different brand? A lot of people swap their ear buds for some ear gels from Jabra for their BT headsets. You think we could have a similar fit for the S9's from a another brand perhaps?
I found a few similar looking ear buds on ebay... what do you think?

Hi,
I've the same problem : someone have taken my S9's Ear buds and Motorola support replied they doesn't sell this part.
So, if someone have Ear buds to sell or know where i can buy Ear buds ?
Thanks
MOTOROLA SUPPORT
I got my Motorola S9 ear cups!
I tried my best, scouring the internet, and came up empty handed -- until I finally called Motorola. For some reason, I got results right away. I guess there have been enough complaints that they are responding.
Or maybe I got lucky, but they're sending me a set at no charge. Needless to say, I was quite pleased.
I called 1-866-289-6686 or 1-866-buy-moto. The gal was friendly and helpful and added that I should pass the message along - so here you go. Good luck!!
I'm going to glue them on as soon as they arrive. I love the headset and use it all the time.

Great first post! Thanks for the information. I also tried the "glue on route" but my glue wasn't stronger enough. Going for super glue the next time which should do the trick!
Thanks again (though I can only hope Motorola (UK) are just as helpful!!
I found the replacement ear buds
I found these large size replacement ear buds for the Motorola S9 for $6.99 US at this site.
http://www.msgdigital.com/productdetail.asp?productid=46188
Nice piece but for me the issue is nothing fits into the ear. As with many headphones as you exert slight pressure on the speakers onto your ears the sound quality improves dramaticly, primarily on the Bass end of things. my wish is for a nice set of in ear cups to remedy this situation. Anyone have any suggestions?
Perfect solution
I found the perfect solution to the ear cushions/ buds.
After Motorola very customer friendly experience I just phoned my credit card up and they clawed back the cash for the headset and I bought Sony's 970.
They work better with my phone, computer and even both at the same time. And you can easily get replacements.
When I'm asked now about anything Motorola I advise everyone to look else where.
Thanks for the number to motorola! i'mon the line with them now sounds like im going to get a new pair
but for those of you with out a warranty i have came up with a way to mod your own in ear head phones with the uncomfortable ear buds for the S9's
if you have your rubber cups well enjoy and disregard this...
now i found i like the sound better with this mod, it works for me due to the shape and size of my head even the cupped ear buds don't really work for my head its "to short" and well i lose a lot of sound. this mod converts the cheap uncomfortable s9 ear plugs to "in ear head phones" for less then 6 bucks off ebay.
so here is a simple way to make your s9's a nice in ear head phones...
what you need are the non-cup S9 ear buds the uncomfortable ones
a set of medium to large generic in ear cup ear buds. (both you can buy off ebay)
1st place the s9 ear buds on the s9 facing up and some what in.
2ed turn your cheap generic cuped ear buds inside out
then place the large inside out cup over your s9 ear buds
then place them on and adjust until the fit and feel right in your ears, (CAUTION! YOU CAN HARM YOUR EARS IF THEY ARE TO LONG)
then carfully glue, if your not carful you will glue your modded ear buds on to the S9 and they wont come off!
also be real careful with the glue if you use to much you will have a uncomfortable hard chunk of glue that will be really uncomfortable in the ear...
i have attached some pictures I hope this is helpful to some of you

Yeah im in the military and on any military installation you are required to use hands free. I use a Motorola T505 for in car, it has a pretty loud speaker and can be played through your radio. I use a BlueAnt Z9 for in ear bluetooth. They are both pretty damn good and can be found on Newegg dot com.
Good post
I use the Jawbone its good !!
looking for good excuse to buy new one one plus is the noise cancellation option works
i have first version one new ones thiner
http://www.jawbone.com/
thanks for the replies. both are very good. the jawbone looks nice but how does it function? i'm trying to compromise looks and functionality as much as i can
noise-canceling technology is great
here a good place for some reviews of different ones
it hot don't want to type 104* off to pool
i use the big clunker
http://www.welectronics.com/Bluetooth/motorola_ht820.jpg
but i love it.. when im on the bus i hear no sound when i have the volume up at a good level.. if i want ot hear i lower it and can hear almost everything and my music
there big there ugly
i use them for 45 minutes to a hour a day and charge then every 3 weeks..
but thye are kick a$$
I use Tritton TRI-BH102 it has been pretty good to me. Battery life is 4hours+ constant stream range is limited to 10' anything more than that is most likely to disconnect. The thing I like about it is the 3.5mm jack.
I use the Jabra BT250v for talking. It's not the one in the link, but it looks just like it. It's the loudest and clearest one I've found in the store. It's very comfortable despite the way it looks. I've forgotten that I was wearing it quite a few times. It has an earpiece that goes into your ear and it sounds like the caller is standing next to you. I talk for about 3 hours a day, and I charge it once a week. It was $50 at Best Buy. I liked the SE HBH-610 more, but I don't think they make them anymore. I've heard really good things about all the Plantronics, but they were too expensive for me.
I use the SouthWing SA505 for stereo music. It's loud, music sounds good, and the battery last for months. I use it in the gym for 2 hours a day, 6 days a week, and to talk when I forget to charge my Jabra. I charge it about once every other month, but it's never actually died on me so it could probably go longer. And it was only $23 with shipping on eBay!
I have one by caselogic, a CLST-100
It cost $16 on double clearance, and it works about as much as it costs.
But the fact of the matter is that it works
I'm using both Jawbones (new and original) I find the new one to be more comfortable
man some dope head phones here, made it even harder for me to choose lol .. i was going to stick with a simple motorola but dam hahaha i have more options now
thanks guys keep em coming!
Out of the few BT headsets I have I find I really only use my JVC HAW700BT set anymore. It's got a stereo jack so I can use whatever headphones I like and when not on the phone I can move the main body of it to my belt. This one can also connect to your car stereo if it's got an Aux input and you can use it as a hands-free set. The battery life is excellent... at least for me.
The only "con" for me is that the charger's connection at the bottom of the main body isn't miniUSB, just some plain two pin connector. Gonna make my own adapter for it so I can charge on the go.
http://www.gadgetell.com/tech/comment/jvc-intros-new-bluetooth-transmitter-and-headset/
I haven't looked to see if it's more common now. When I got mine i had a very hard time finding anyone who even had it in their computer, much less in stock, and it wasn't on JVC's site either.
I use the jabra bt8010 stereo headset. I'm simply in love with this thing. the sound quality is outstanding. I find myself using my wing for music more than my ipod because of the headset. If your wearing both pieces phone calls sound as if you are in the same room with the person. check ebay they used to go for between 90.00 and 110.00$$ but now you can find them for as low as $40.00. Now if I could only figure out how to setup my voice command to be used on te headset?
I use a Motorola. Excellent sound quality, And compatible with A2DP ( Music via Bluetooth thing ).

i was looking into this one because of the simplicity of it. right now it seems like the best bang for the buck.
I use the Motorola H700 with no problems
Motorola H700 for me to very good, talking on phone is good, music sounds good ... MSVC sucks big time, i got mine off ebay for 22 bucks
I have the cheapest Jabra I could find in the shop, 10 UK pounds.
It's rubbish. I bought it just to try how bt headsets work.
Interestingly (although maybe I'm the last one to find out), using the attached cab I can send all sound through it whether it likes it or not (it would only work when there's a call otherwise).
What is the model number for Motorola BT head set
I recently discovered the my tracks app for android and now take my phone with me whenever I go running. Only problem however: I need to keep holding the phone in my hand. Because I need a GPS signal I can't just put it in my pocket.
Does anyone know a good way to somehow strap the phone to my body (my arm or hip) in a way that it can see the gps sattelites? I've seen arm-straps for the iphone for exactly that purpose, but I can't find something suitable for the G1.
You might be able to squeeze it into the iphone one.. someone should try and report back if they know anyone with one of these..would be usefull to use when working out as music player..
I've been using MyTracks with my G1 in my pocket and it had no trouble picking up the GPS signals.
Regards,
Dave
I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/ArmBand-Gener...9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228504261&sr=1-9
The screen is a little difficult to use while in the case and the fit could be better, but it is usable.

Me too - Fire it up and wait for satellites, start the recording and drop it in my pocket. Never had a drop out or loss of signal. Have you tried it yet?
armband
This was recommended to me over on GDGT, but I haven't bought it yet

Also check out Buddy Runner, I greatly prefer it to myTracks.
Amazon and eBay have a few armbands as well, right now I am holding the g1 in my hand. Its not so bad.

I use this armband when I run with the G1. It fits kinda tight in the case and sometimes pushes on the volume buttons. A quick adjustment of the phone usually fixes this. I have no problems using the screen with the case but sometimes the glare makes it hard to see the screen. I wear the phone and the armband upside down so it makes it a bit easier to use. As foxmeister and Saiboogu said the gps also works in your pocket after you link up to the gps satellites. I also really liked ordering from iarmbands, it was cheap and was delivered quickly to my house, good customer service, which you don't see to often these days.
I found a cheap samsung armband set at Walgreens or CVS which came with two different types of straps and one carring case. The G1 actually didn't fit into the original pouch so used the Neoprene pouch that the phone came with. I cut to slits on the back to put the band through and on the front I cut out a portion out for the screen. Worked perfect and the Neoprene pouch is tough and still in great shape. I was using it for all my gym sessions and may go back to it if the S9's I bought keep acting up.
I haven't been able to run with my G1 without holding it, because when I'm wearing gym shorts it flys around like a brick and can be painful too.
The unfortunate thing is, I use it as an MP3 player when I'm running, and the now 10 foot cord that I use is a pain to jog with, along with carrying a water bottle.
I sue my G1 with an OOOLD ipod armband case. The G1 actually sticks out the top since it's much longer than my iPod, but since it's a tight fit, it doesn't do anywhere. If you're using it for music as well, you need to upgrade to a stereo bluetooth headset. You'll love it. I'm using the Motorola S9 (which I also used with my HTC Touch)
Tunebelt
I use a product called the "Tune Belt" that goes around my waist. I find it more comfortable than using an armband. Nice material, good construction, nice design. I ordered mine on Amazon. If I put my G1 face outward, I can actually use the touch interface through the clear vinyl. But, I usually turn it face in because of the G1's chin and the way it contours around my waist.
Here is more info on it:
http://www.tunebelt.com/domino/tunebelt/tunebelt.nsf/ip2
The Motorola S9-HD is great for wireless bluetooth operation and I can even take calls with it while I'm running. Sound quality is awesome, but I notice that the fit could be a little tighter in my ears.
I use Buddy Runner app to track my runs, and I listen to music while running too.
I highly recommend the Tune Belt.
I have a generic arm band, however I kinda like the looks of that tunebelt over an arm band.
For the software I'd give cardiotrainer a try. It tracks, plays MP3's while you run and has for 2bucks has a race against yourself feature.

Except the g1 has GPS and will track your run for you...but each his own.
my armband from iArmbands just showed up. Phone fits great! Nice and snug. Definitely recommended
I've just received my iArmBand - it does not look like it has actually been made for G1 because the holes don't fit, etc. Also the screen is hard to use. I mean it's usable, but I doubt you could do anything while running.
Actually I have not taken it out "for a spin" yet, so I might just post more tonight.

That's Odd. The only hole mine has is at the bottom for the headphone jack, but it lines up OK. How's the fit? If you sort of press out the air bubbles, my screen is very usable. i wonder if you got sent the wrong model?
Well, I don't know about you, but those holes at the bottom (and top) don't fit anything on my device:

As for the air bubbles they are more like air pockets when I put my phone in.
I'll snap a pic of mine when I get off work. The 4 little rounds holes don't serve a purpose, but I don't think mine has that little slot. That looks more like an ipod touch or something.
Let me take a pic and you can compare.

That would be great. Maybe I really got the wrong one.
Hey guys, been digging through the threads and found a couple on earphones, though not exactly what I was looking. Looking for your opinions on best earphones with a microphone for about $35-$65. Comfortable, preferably in ear design. Hoping for a pretty good microphone so that people can actually hear me, especially outside, though I don't want the mic to be huge (that's one thing I liked about the stock headphones till they broke; the mic was discrete). Also, I would prefer one of the earphones to be longer than the other so that I could have them hang around my neck when not in use. All opinions welcome.
So far I've looked at:
Sennheiser MM50
MetroFi 170vi
-Thanks
Hi,

remote control with HTC ExtUSB
which has: mic+vol up/down+fward/bward
and 3.5 connector
and get an CX 95 style
I order this combination and they are on the way.
Check my post if you need details

I can barely find anything on those headphones. Do you know if one side is longer than the other? (aka, is it an around the neck design?)
I have found some info:

Does this headset works the same way as the htc headset that was supplied with the phone?
thanks for the picture. Too bad it's not an around the neck design. And yes, I believe all the headsets will work like the original one. Though I should note that none of the headsets will give you extra functionality like changing songs/volume, but you can still pick up/hang up calls.
I brought a nokia headset hs47 and that does not work well with HD
Personally I use Sennheiser MM50 headphones which has excellent quality

I was just about to buy those last night but then I saw that there were alot of fakes floating around and didn't want to get ripped off. Also, I found reviews for the "nuforce ne-7m" and they're all extremely positive. Everyone saying that they're better than the MM50, though, unfortunately, they're not around the neck design. I still ended buying them, if I don't like them I'll just return it and get the MM50s.

Got them on tues (very fast shipping as monday was a holiday). First of all, I'm no audiophile but here's my best 'imho.' Compared to the stock headphones, well, you really can't compare them. It's like listening to music in 3D; there's depth to the sound. The mic is in a good position and tiny. So far, everyone has said that they've had no problem hearing me and I've never heard the wind blowing in my earphones (which use to happen all the time on the stock ones). They block out sound very well and don't disrupt others since you can't hear the music unless u have them on/are really really close. If you turn up the volume (on the HD) all the way up, it gets ridiculously loud, but remains high quality. The cable is nice and long (sometimes that's an issue for me since I'm like 6feet 4in (1.93m). Extremely comfortable!
Cons(?): Not around the neck design. 'Bent' (L shaped) jack vs the stock straight jack. The sound carries through the wire into the headphones when they hit/touch something (like a zipper on a sweatshirt); however I think this might be true on all in-ear headphones? If anyone can comment on that, especially on the MM50 in that scenario.
3 other notes: It has one of those sliders were the line separates into the right/left headphone to help keep them from tangling. Came with a pouch and 3 other sized ear pieces. It has a 'clip' to clip the headphones to a piece of clothing so that they don't bounce around.
If you have any other questions or I missed something let me know and I'll try and get it answered for you.

Good review IMO. Sounds similar to MM50, though lacking around the neck design would put me off them.

I think this combination does not work with the Blackstone.
All others should probably check out this thread:

Ther is an application that allows you to play/pause and play the next track with the button on the headphones.
I know nobody asked for it but i think its quite practical
Anyone hear more about these? I've been holding off buying a pair of LG Tone+ since these were suppose to be coming out this summer. Are they vaporware by this point?

Can't wait for this.
Only thing I see are a few news articles and the press release. Darn it.
I'm in the same boat as you. I want the Tone+ but since the Infinim will be released soon, I will save my (lack of) big bucks.

There will be 3 ranges of Tone Headsets now. The Tone+ are old. It will go in this order:
Tone Pro basic $69
Tone Ultra Noise Cancelling $119
Tone Infinum : I think special Harmen Karden speakers and retractable earbuds. $149

I like the feel of the Tone Ultra over the Pro and the Ultra has option noise cancelling so you can turn it on or off.
I ended up ordering a pair of the 730 Tone+, $17 shipped. I know the newer ones have more features, but expect to be happy with them.
Looking forward to this, had the Tone before and Tone+ now. The retractable feature is attractive, I just wish it's durable...

Where did you manage that price at?
EBay, http://m.ebay.com/itm/121366221464?nav=SEARCH
They should be arriving in the next day or two.
Got my 730s in today, charged them, working nicely
11 days from order to receipt, no complaints for an excellent price. The sound is quite nice.
No Google voice support, but fine for music or telephone use.

Ordered. For $17, I''' have no remorse buying the Infinim when it comes out even if it's the next day. Thanks for the link!
Quite a few fakes floating out there, even on Amazon (read the reviews and look at the uploaded pics). So I have to think these eBay ones can't possibly be the real thing. But, if you're happy with them, more power to ya.

Just disable voice commands and Google voice should work
No joy.
I`ve frozen:
LG TTS+
LG VoiceCommand SpeachPack
Maluuba QVoice Interface
Voice Command
Still no response to a single press of Call (when idle -- it works to pick up an incoming call or disconnect), or a long press.
I also tried installing the VoiceCommand app from Play Store. No change, so I removed it.
Thanks for the suggestion

Are these legit LG or Chinese look- a-likes??
Thanks
I believe they are real. The packaging seems reasonable, the phone recognizes them as hbs-730, and they precisely match the picture in the real LG manual. They also have things like the aptx markings as shown on the real device.
They did not include spare ear gels or manual in the package, but do seem legit.

On the right side you see the aptX logo just below the forward/back media control rockers. On the left side the on/off button and the microUSB charge port (hidden) are where they show in the OEM manual.
I'm very happy with them, other than not having voice command working. I rooted and did a fair amount of nudging on the phone the first couple days, think I whoopsed and broke the SW linkage to have VC activate. Call picks up calls, and last number redials, but I can't get voice dialer or general Google Search VC running; I don't blame that on the headphones.

I do not believe they are OEM. I have not seen any Tone headsets with that orange button on the call answer. Also the ear buds look very different. Tone headsets also do not have the shiny aluminum? ring around the ear bud. Actually now that I am thinking of its im 99% percent sure they are a knock off. But if your happy that is all that matters.
