Hello,
My friend has a Lobster on Virgin UK.
When he goes out of signal say into a building it will search for signal as normal. But when he returns to the outside where he previously had signal the phone will not reconnect even after a lengthy time. He has to turn flight mode on and then off again for it to reconnect again.
Does anyone know of this problem or know of any fixes?
Thanks

My XDA phone seems to work just dandy...as long as it doesn't lose connection. If this happens I invariably have to switch the phone off and then on (not the whole xda) for it to pick up the signal. Sometimes when I do this it jumps up to full strength so it's certainly not signal problems.
Is there same way to force a signal search without turning the phone off? It's very annoying as I miss calls because of this assuming i'm connected when in an area with good signal (central london say - no i'm NOT in the tube!)
Thanks for any help here.
Daniel
You may want to upgrade the phone software. I used to have this problem on older RSU versions, and it disappeared somewhere along the road. 4.21 seems fine.
(The XDA will never be the phone for rural environments though. Radio reception just doesn't compare to e.g. the better Nokias..)
Thanks kindly for your reply.
ROM Version: 3.17.03 ENG
Rom Date: 05/15/03
Radio Version: 4.21.00
Protocol Version: 32S54
Anything wrong there? Would it be worth reinstalling the radio stack perhaps?
Do any of you XDA pro's know if there is actually a function to force a re-scan of frequencies to find a connection? How difficult would it be to write one as I could see it being incredibly useful even for people who's phones DO reconnect themselves (After a while).
Best regards,
Daniel
Hi Daniel, I have the same problem as do 54 of my colleagues. I have just had to rollout these XDA's out to my colleagues as part of a real time
information project and all have the radio stack 4.21 installed. If the guys are in a dead phone area in excess of 30 mins, it will never find the network again until we do a POR. I guess that the firmware either has a retry limit then gives up or it is done by time then gives up. I sure would like to see if this can be resolved?
Yep, I too have the same problem!!
And it's a pain in the arse! Anyone have any ideas? I have the latest firmware, radio stack etc from o2 UK.
Any of you technical sort of people know?
What we need are two little apps...
1. An app that will run the "reconnection" process without requiring the pin number to be re-entered.
2. a "cron" type program that will run it every 30 mins.
But I'm dammed if I have a clue how to do that!! =) Techy types...heeelllppp!!!
I'm in asia and running the same 4.21 have the same problem using the 900 band but with the 1800 frequency it's ok.
I'm in Argentina (GSM 900-1900), same problem. Tried different PPC versions / Radio Stack versions. Now it is:
ROM version A.30.09 ENG
ROM date: 01/01/04
Radio version: 6.24.00
Protocol version 324e4
(Hardware model PW10B1)
I hate going somewhere and when I get there check the green light just to see if it blinks and it doesn't! And when I turn on flight mode and then off, I get a strong signal. I can't have a phone like that! Why it doesn't check for signal automatically???
A solution would be to have a program turn on the PDA with the backlight off (to keep battery life) at predefined intervals, check the signal and if it is OK turn off the phone but if it is on No Signal "tap" on the signal icon, then on Turn On Flight mode, then repeat. That would be a quick and dirty solution. I would love to implement it but I don't have the resources (you can read programming knowledge) to do it.
Kind regards,
Marton
I also have this problem (in australia) but only noticed it since upgrading to the latest firmware. Hopefully when they do their next release they correct the problem agian.
If you happen to find a revision that doesn't have this problem, please let me know!!! Thanks!!
Marton
What happens when you try to make a call after you have lost the signal, and are back in an area with signal?
I did have the same problem- every time I came out of the underground.
It would often say 'Unable to make the call' etc.
But then i found that sometimes, if I called voicemail, the phone would pause for 30 seconds, then suddenly re-aquire the signal.
This seems to work most of the time now.
When I turn it on, the signal icon starts "Searching" and the three dots go blinking endless without getting the signal. If I turn on flight mode on and off, signal comes in normally. It is very strange but it seems too many people has this problem and it's sad that there's no aparent solution
Marton
Yup. But i found making a call (e.g. to voicemail) even when it shows 'no signal' did force it to start searching for a signal, although it freezes for 30 seconds.
OK, but I have no problems with turning on and off flight mode to get the signal back to make calls. The problem is that the phone can't receive calls.....
This sux
I was kinda hoping I was the only person with this problem, or that I'd find sum1 else had the same problem & knew how 2 fix it... I just purchased a Wallaby on eBay, but am becoming EXTREMELY frustrated with the lack of reception (0-1 bars connecting to Optus PrePaid within Australia) and when it frequently loses the signal all 2gether, I have 2 reset the phone 2 get it 2 pick it up again. VERY annoying. If ne1 knows of nething that might help (I no very little about all this ROM/radio stack stuff) then please, let us know!
Hello,
How are you?
I also have this singnal problem.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
I am running radio 4.21 in France.
Does anyone know if there is a later version of the radio stack?
thanks for advice,
monza
Hi all,
I'm having a data connectivity issue on my phone when moving from 2G to 3G. If I'm connected to 2G, then move into an area of 3G coverage the phone will successfully migrate to the 3G network, however the data connection will often not start up for between 30 minutes and severanl hours. Flipping airplane mode will *sometimes* fix it, but more frequently, even rebooting the phone won't work. However, if I lock the phone to 3G from the settings, I do not encounter this issue at all. It only happens on my home provider (Jersey Telecom - they're small). In the UK, on Three, it didn't happen.
So, given that the problem can persist over reboots, and doesn't happen in the UK, it makes me think it's more likely a network issue, so I called them up. The network engineer managed to reproduce the issue on his colleagues Samsung Galaxy Note, but they are adamant that it's a phone issue and not a network issue, and is a matter of Samsung not sticking to the specs. The phone isn't currently rooted, but I can root it if it will help me debug the problem. From the sounds of it, it may be problem consistent to all Samsung radio phones on our network.. and I really don't want to switch to another phone.
They say that from their logs, the phone is not always trying to create (or presumably, migrate?) a PDP when moving to a 3G network. It's hard to say whether it's a problem with the phone or their logs.. has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Does anyone know how to access logs about the phone trying to create a PDP etc. so that I have something to compare with theirs?
Thanks
check out the modems thread and try a better modem

Almost 4 months of having this problem. I dont know exactly what have caused this. I have a D6503 device, and when I tried to register to 3G or 4G network, the device looses the signal "emergency call only", but when I check GSM only the signal comes back. I remember the time when I open *#*#4636#*#* and selected USA band only, that time I looses signal. I reflash my D6503 using flash tool. and the signal comes back. but I dont know exactly if the cause of having no 3g or 4g signal was the result of that. i cant remember anymore. I hope someone here could enlighten me or give me some idea if what exactly is the problem of this unit. Im sure that the simcard reader is fine.

I hope someone here could help me figure out this problem. The 3G and 4G signal on my place is OK. I have a correct APN for this. But the problem is, everytime i enable data, i looses my signal, and my simcard cant register to the network. and a message network not available. When i search for networks, LTE, 3G, GSM will appear, and when I click LTE signals, the phone cant register to network, and I will have no signal then. If i choose GSM (2G), that's the time that I can have a network signal. Would it be posibble that the antenna are defective? (the smaller one where the other end of the wire attached, I think its the board rf aerial PCB flex cable ? I hope some one here can help me
I recently purchased an Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro phone (kenzo), it covers all the bands that rogers uses in my area in Canada, I believe.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Wireless
I can connect with the phone on LTE, HSPA+ with no problem, if available. Sometimes, if I am in certain area's, the signal indicator drops to 3G .... it shows a decent signal, but no calls or data can go through.
In this example on the following chart, the first WCDMA connection,my phone only indicates 3G and I can not make a call or use data. When my call attempt is done, it goes back to LTE. Then I try again. Then for the second WCDMA connection on the chart, I am connected as H+, I can make a call and use data. Whenever this phone connects to CID 31072 the problem happens. When I connect to CID 31075, no problem. These are just examples of towers that I reach from my home. I get the same problem occuring other areas.
Any suggestions on what I need to change on my phone? Is my phone making a kind of 3G connection for some reason, which Rogers doesn't support? I have tried everything I can think of, Miui dev versions, CM13, LineageOS 14.1 etc, change Android Radio Menu settings, etc.
Nothing seems to fix this issue.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I have been using Network Signal Guru, and have figured out that the phone will connect calls data on 3g if the band it finds is B5-850M .... if the tower tries to connect to is B2-PCS-1900 the call fails.
I tried to block the use of band 2 with Network Signal Guru, but it seems to still use it when it finds it.
I have since flashed a LineageOS rom and used the Network Signal Guru to disable band 2 WCDMA. The phone has not been experiencing the issue at all since. I am cautiously optimistic that I have found a solution. Still not sure why this band doesn't work here though.
It happened after i turned on flight mode, when i turned off it the first sim has signal and the second one doesn't!
when i switch the mobile data to first sim the signal comes back,
if i switch the network from 4g to 2g the signal comes back!
everytime i turn on mobile data in that sim the signal completely goes off!
i checked if it is a sim problem by switching slots didn't work, then i put the sim to another phone the signal is strong and mobile data works like a charm so its not a sim problem at all! please help me out!
