Hi
I update my cingular / att 8525 with the new rom that replace the wireless modem with the internet sharing. The internet sharing worked fine.
Some time when my home high speed internet goes slowly, I use my 8525 as a wireless modem to connect to my work computer via Cisco VPN version 3.66.
After upgrade to the new rom that uses internet sharing, I cannot connect to my work computer as before the upgrade. As soon I run the VPN Client, and the VPN do all registration, I not longer have internet access. When I run Remote Desktop to connect to my work computer, I got an error that I can't find the computer. If I open the internet explorer (IE) to go any site, the IE can not find any size. If I disconnect the VPN connection and repair the internet sharing I can browse the internet.
I contact the HTC support with not result. I want to know if someone that has not upgrade the rom yet, can send me the wmodem files from the windoew directory to see if I can get the wireless modem working or if some one has any correction options.
Regards,
Gilberto Fres
The latest Cisco VPN client (v5.0) fixes this.
I installed the Cisco VPN version 5 in work computer to test. I disconnect from the network and create a bluetooth connection between my 8525 and the PC. I got internet access thru the phone. I launch the VPN and the VPN connect to the network. I check for internet access and was still there. The only problem is that when I ping any computer in my work network, I dont get any reply. I still can't connect to any computer in my work network, but this time with this new version of VPN, I'm not losing the internet.
If posible to get the WModem software that is the wireless modem instead of internet sharing?
Regards

Sounds like a bug that was in the Beta v5.0 client. Are you connecting to a Cisco VPN concentrator? I'm using a 3020 w/o issues on the production client (has official Vista support).
My laptop runs Windows XP however..

Possibly because DNS isn't working thru the VPN client? Can you ping or RDP by IP address?
Or, do the hard coded proxy settings affect VPN? Have you tried disabling the proxy?
Hi
The version of the Cisco VPN is 5.0.00.0340. I'm connecting to cisco 3000 server. If I trying to ping any computer on my work network after the VPN connect, gave me time out all the time, but I could connect to the internet using the Internet Explorer.
Playing with this yerterday, in the control > network connection, I pick the property of the connection made by the 8525. I went to the properties. In the Advanced tab I click the option "Internet Connection Sharing" to see if the VPN work and I received a message that the connection to the internet can be lost. I lost the connection and went back to the property dialog box. When I click the Advanced tab, the all "Internet Connection Sharing" section not longer showing up in the "Advanced" tab.
Right now the phone connect to the PC, but I don't have any internet in the PC. How I can disabled this "Intenet Connection Sharing" when this doesn't show up in the Advanced tab of the network connection properties?

I've got the AKU3.5 ROM loaded on my 8525 but I've not tested the Cisco VPN client with it. My responses have been based on my TyTN which runs my WM6 ROM. I'll pair up my laptop with the 8525 later today and test.
Sleuth255
Did you test your 8525 with the Cisco VPN Client?
Gilberto
Forgot about it.... I'll be home in 2hrs & will test then.
also: are you tethering via USB or Bluetooth?
Testing complete. Tethered my laptop to my 8525 using USB. Connected to my 3020 concentrator with Cisco VPN client v5.0.00.340, logged in and successfully browsed to our internal-only (RFC1918 CIDR block) intranet portal site.
I am using IPSec over UDP (NAT/PAT).
Looks like the 8525 Internet Sharing/v5.0.00.340 client combination works for me.
Sleuth255
Our company concentrator is the 3000 not the 3020 that you use for the test.
Look like I have to wait to HTC release the update to WM6 and lockely if the will include the DUN package in the update.
I got the VPN connect but can't sent and received any package thru the VPN. I still have internet browsing capability, but I can't ping any computer in my work network.
Thank Sleuth255 for your information.
Gilberto
are you also IPSec over UDP?
hey all, does anyone know if there are any free/opensource vpn client WM5/WM6 software? I've tried Antha and Bluefire VPN. I had great success with Bluefire VPN but a license costs $79. Antha was just a bit too unstable.
Any recommendations?
I'm not aware of any that can do 3DES other than the two you mentioned. Let me know if you find one!
Sleuth255
Yes is IPSec over UDP.
Gilberto
can your shar VPN software?

Hi Guys. Need a little help.
Scenario: I have a wired ADSL connection in my home for internet. I have Windows 7 on my PC installed. I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G WiFi card in my PC as well.
Now, I want to share my PC's ADSL connection with my Vibrant through my WiFi card.
So far, I have failed to achieve it. I have tried doing it the TP-Link way by establishing a Soft AP through a software provided by them, but no success. I have tried connectify, no luck here either. My vibrant detects the network but never connects to it...
Any help, what so ever will be really appreciated...
Easiest way, get a $30 router at your local store. Will save you a headache. Otherwise bridge your wired and wireless connection using windows.

Well what you will need to do is allow ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the wired NIC card and allow other users to share the connection. It should DHCP the wired NIC and assign your wireless card an IP address like 192.168.137.1 and Subnet of 255.255.255.0.
Actually I don't want to buy a new router, want to use my WiFi card. And it is possible through it, so I think I should not spend money on a router...
I have tried everything... ICS is not working... Connectify is not working either...
There is some way of doing it through Adhoc network, I read somewhere but I have also read that Adhoc network is not supported in Android...
If someone can help, that would be great...
Odd because I'm doing ICS via Windows 7 and mine works perfectly..
***Edit...you might have to add in the default gateway ip and primary dns server ip on the wireless card for it to look for your wired NIC
just right click on your wired NIC and go to status and then details
Hmm... I am going to try this but do I share the internet with my WiFi card or the Virtual WiFi Miniport?
You share the wired NIC "allow other users to connect " it will act as your DHCP server and assign an address to your wireless card
Nothing is happening for me...
My Vibrant detects the WiFi AP but does not connect to it... It evens show the signal strength to be "Excellent" but does not connect to it...
Man... Its really frustrating when you can not get something to work...
So it just wont connect period?? Not even to network? Or will it connect and just no internet.... Hmmmmm
It just wont connect. Period...
Thanks for your willingness to help though...
Google "set up adhoc windows 7" to get your wireless set up properly, then should be easy. Keep it simple at first. Broadcast ssid and one you will recognize, and no password to eliminate any problems. Once configured and workinggo back and set up a password.

I have tried this Ad Hoc connection as well but I have read somewhere that Android does not support Ad Hoc connection. If there is some way around, please do tell me...
Finally... Got it working guys...
Here is the link: http://www.itgeekdiary.com/windows-7-as-an-wi-fi-access-point/
Followed it and it just worked...
Man, I am relieved...
Posted here, since I believe this is a general and not device specific issue.
So, I have set up a VPN server on OSX Lion Server edition.
It is using l2tp with preshared key and username/password for login.
i(beep) works fine and connects. Laptop works fine and can connect.
But...
1. When Iam on local network (same IP segment) I can connect using Android native l2tp VPN connection setup with PSK and user/pass.
2. When I try to connect from external (3G or other WiFi net) I am unable to connect.
3. When I enabe native tether on Android device, and connect i(beep) to the Android AP, I still am able to connect from i(beep).
These three steps tells me it is not a carrier issue, and possibly an Android issue.
Did anyone experience this (and even better.....did you find a solution)?
Kinda like the l2tp connection for security, and also Lion natively does not supply pptp connection.
/Niel
I am trying to do the same thing, I havent got the VPN to function yet though but I think its a router issue among other things. I bought a domain name and I am using that with dyndns to help simplify the ip change issues... I am getting a new router to test here next week so hopefully I'll have a better idea.
However now I am worried I'll run into the same issue as you!! lol... Its been a while since you posted, have you found a solution yet?
No. Didn't find a solution, but you might be correct in assuming its a router issue. Have a Netgear myself, and those have had quite a few issues.

I ended up getting a new Airport and it has pretty cool setup integration with the Server / Airport Utility, however I still cannot connect with the VPN connection.
My initial reason to set this up was to use PLEX... AND this actually works very well if I setup my connection through the PLEX connection settings.. but I still can't get it to work with the Android VPN setup.... (tested 3G and WiFi)
..also I cannot get the VPN to work with a Windows PC... tested a Mac (hackintosh) and it worked instantly...
so I think its a Mac thing maybe... Since PLEX is working... I am happy but would still like to get the VPN connection working properly. I suspect I'll need to call Apple about it though
I am also have a similar issue.
OSX Server running 10.6.8
L2TP VPN and PPTP services running
My iPhone and laptop can connect just fine. My HTC One X and HP Touchpad (CM9) can not. Both say the address can not be resolved. The server is sitting in the DMZ and if I enable the web server both devices can resolve to the default welcome page just fine.
1. It isn't a DNS issues since they can connect via the web
2. It isn't a port issue since other clients can connect
Is there some dumb setting i am missing in the VPN setup?
Thanks
Will
OSX Lion Server L2TP VPN and ICS not working
Hey guys.. I got PPTP to work to OSX Lion Server by making sure PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec forwarding were enabled through my router.
Also, make sure to check the VPN logs in /var/log/ppp/vpnd.log to see why it's not connecting..
I can establish a VPN connection between my Atrix and my home computer. Over WiFi, I can access my SMB shares on my Atrix. But I can't access my SMB shares through the VPN connection! Has anyone had success with this setup?

I can't do anything over the vpn connection, weird thing, a lot say that it gets sorted with the update, but I'm on 2.3.4 and isn't working, connects to vpn but does nothing from there.
Hi,
I followed several guides on connecting my Galaxy Ace with an Openvpn Server.
I finally managed to connect to a Openvpn server using Certificates with the latest Cyanogen Mod for the Galaxy Ace.
For the Connection I used OpenVPN Settings App from the Market.
The thing is that the connection is established and I see in the config, that VPN is connected. It displays the message:" Connected to 134.x.x.x as 192.168.200.100"
But unfortunately nothing is tunneled over this VPN connection. If I for example check my external IP on the Galaxy device, it still shows me my G3 Provider IP. But I expect to see the IP of my Home Internet Provider. Furthermore no connections to devices on the local Network of the VPN Server can be made.
That means, that despite the VPN Dialog showing me that I am connected to the Open VPN server, no connection is tunneled over that device.
The Guides I used to setup the VPN Connection are from here:
freetz.org/wiki/packages/openvpn
and
riseup.net/en/openvpn-android
If I connect with the same settings from an windows PC to the Server, The connection is established and tunneling just fine.
Anyone knows what I am doing wrong?
Hi.
I want to connect to a vpn server by PPTP.I can connect to the server over 3G,but It doesn't connect over WiFi.
Sometimes when I turn on Fly Mode,it connects, but this happens sometimes. Also I'm sure that vpn server is up and running.
But there's no problem when I want to connect to that server by L2TP/IPSEC with PSK.
My Phone is Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4.
Please guide me how to fix this problem.
Thank you

As ridiculous as it sounds, this is a known bug in ICS.
It may (or may not) be fixed in JB (you'll have to ask someone else).
However, as ICS allows you to use third-party VPN protocols, there are some great OpenVPN clients in the market, if your VPN provider supports it. This is the solution I had to accept
Both CM10 as well as the leaked JB ROM from Samsung fix all VPN issues for me.
I just did a PPTP connection with my router running DD-WRT and didn't have any problems. The only problem that I did have is that once I am connected I can't disconnect without doing a reboot which could be a problem with CleanROM 2.0 that I am running. At any rate it, it routed all of my data through the VPN.
I can connect to vpnreactor servers with PPTP just fine, but trying my DD-WRT box is always unsuccessful. Hopefully with stock JB it will work for me.
The OpenVPN client from PLAY works great when connecting to our Cisco 527 router at the office. No worries at all to setup and use.
Using the Citrix receiver works well through it as well. AWESOME
