Using HTC Touch dialer in new roms - MDA Compact II ROM Development

Hi,
This is really directed toward Nocturne.op.15.
I've been trying out the various HTC Touch cabs that are available on the Wizard Mobile 6 forum and they look really nice. Especially the Dialer and Comms manager.
The problem with installing these cabs is that adding all the extra stuff to the windows folder has an effect on performance, so I was wondering if you could possibly consider using the Touch Dialer and Comms Manager as the default in future roms? Or, would it be possible to have a rom without any dialer or comms manager so that we can install our own?
Thanks
pjam

do not afraid ,-)
if performance will persist, all modern things will be inside...

Great! I hoped you would say something like that.
If you could get the Touch home plugin to work without slowing anything down that would be fantastic!
(I realise you're after a clean rom)
Thanks.

home screen plugin will not be used. i have never seen something so slow - even after uninstall, system startup is 2 times slower (something remained there).
the second reason is that this plugin is absolutely, realy absolutely useless. It just consumes precious screen space, memory and cpu. easy one-hand operation is aslo hardly possible with it.
If you like something like this, use spb mobile shell, which has almost no effect to device speed. It has also many more functions, is almost the same size. Latest 1.5 Beta3 is really fast, stable and brings many new functions against v. 1
Final result: i will not include this useless plugin, no discussion about this please. slow your ppc yourself, i will not do it, i'm trying to make it as fast as possible. easiest way to slow ppc down is to underclock it to 95MHz
I will check dialer and comm mananger and inform you later.

Cheers Nocturne,
You are right about the usefulness of the plugin, I just think it looks nice, which is not a good enough reason to have it on the phone, slowing things down
Think I'll have a look at the shell tool.
thanks for your thoughts
pjam

Dialer is great, really easy to handle it i one hand. But i don't like its graphics, used font looks really horrible.
EDIT: no, dialer will also not be used. it has really pleasant size of buttons, but there's one thing i'm missing: hide keypad button. if i want to see more contacts and not to use smartialing (which works), it's impossible. i will work on it - maybe just some registry settings is wrong

I actually really like the font, it's really simple.
There is a contacts soft key available to show more contacts.
I also use a handy programme called QDz photo contacts. You can decide whether or not it shows the photo's, choose surname or first name order, and instead of one long list of names, the list is 2D. Works really well.

DO NOT use Touch dialer
Well, guys I've tried the TOUCH dialer as well. It's really slow (compared to the standard WM6 dialer) but much worse is the fact, that used smartdialing technology prevents me to select contacts with diacritics (crazy czech signs ).
Radek

The more i use this HTC Touch dialer the more i like it.
The smart dialing works really well and makes it easy to select a contact to either call, sms or email. The contacts softkey makes it easy to view more contacts.
There is alot of discussion about this on the wizard forum. There it talk that everything runs faster if the dialer is in the Rom. (I don't know why.)
There is also talk of virtual extended roms, but i don't have a clue about all that.
Once the various apps that i use have been opened and minimised i find this dialer doesn't cause a problem with regard to speed.
Update: Actually, after performing a hard reset I've come to realise just how much this dialer and comm manager were slowing things down. Love the dialer, hate the slow down.

VGA 144

Hi All
I have been playing with QVGA and True VGA and there is just a too big Gap between the two
One is 2 Big and the other 2 Small
previously on my Jasjar I set the resolution to 144 (Slap Bam in the Middle)
The problem with this is all the VGA Stuff as well as the most of the icons is missing but ..... IT IS REALLY the best RES to work, not too smal or big the sliders etc also looks just right
Shouldn't we start looking at developing for 144 Resolution and get it over and done with once and for all
OK - It's been a long time since I've done this, where do we start!!!!!!!
VGA 128dpi
Hi Skillie,
144dpi resources are hard to get so it would be quite a lot of work. I can easily provide you with 128dpi resources because they are supported by Microsoft.
I will provide you with the necessay files within the next 2 days.
Cheers,
Tobias
VGA 128
This is the installation for VGA 128dpi. Give it a try. This one is for English devices. If you need any other language let me know.
If you don't need the video call function then you can fix the phone by setting the registry entry
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled=0 and perform a soft reset.
Have fun
PS: When I will find the time I will provide a little program to switch betwen 192dpi <-> 128dpi <-> 96dpi
VGA 128pdi
Sorry it seems that there was a problem with the upload ...
Yeah Man!!!!!!
This is so cool - did you do it all on your own?
I will test this for a while and let you know but the size is nether too big or small - This I can live with this for more than 10 minutes - look at that real-estate!!!!!
Thanks u are Tops!!!
VGA 128dpi
I'm doing PocketPC development device driver development since 2002, so it was not a big deal
There are some minor issues with some dialogs, like the wireless config dialog but I will fix that when I have some time. Actually I got the resources from the QVGA 320x320 emulator, which runs at 128dpi.
Cheers,
Tobias
I have been playing with it - my Phone works but the other usual stuff not
but i am so impressed with this I will actually keep it on this resolution
A lot of work has gone into fixing the the cosmetics i'm sure to find the right files for this as well
From now on I am recommending this to all who complain about big Icons \(or too smal ones )
Excellent Work !!!!!!!
I bet this will be part of WM7!!!!!!
Cheers
Frikkie
I'm gonna sound like a real noob now .... can i just install this new CAb and try it? If i dont like it uninstall and then reset and its gone? Dont wanna bugger up my Ameo as I have it working how i like apart from the screen space!

I tried this utility quickly. Initially seemed ok. Today screen looked good as did the program files.
However when I tried to start Excel, nothing seemed to happen at all except the machine was apparently stuck on something. It stopped doing anything beyond putting the word excel in the title bar. Still saw the 3 pocket office icons on the screen and that's all that happened. Had to manually stop Excel with the memory tool. Uninstalled the vga cab and all is back to normal, including a working Excel.
I tried this. Excel and word worked perfectly for me.
The backlight glider also has no problem. HTC homeplug is perfect.
Phone application works although it leaves a space at the bottom. Also,I can't see the dialed number if it is not one stored in the contact database. Any way it still beats VJBigphone hands down.
Comm manager is messed up still.
Standard keyboard are too small, as expected. However the Tengo keyboard is still prefect.
All icons on tasksbar are perfect. Today screen icons are completely perfect.
The beautiful standardcalculator skin is gone, replaced by ugly looking round lines for the keys. But this is no big deal. I don't need the standard calculator anyway. HiCalc is the way to go, and HiCalc works well, other than a little gap at the top.
This resolution is way way better IMHO than ozvga or mvrtrurvga. The size of the taskbar and bottom bar is a lot more pleasing, and blend in with the application better, since theit sizes does not contrast too sharply from the button sizes of traditional applicationapplications.
The only real problem is, my navigation software iGO my way is completely messed up. What a pity. I like this resolution very much, but would hate to have to uninstall then soft reset to drive. After driving,I would have to install then soft reset to get back to this.
Is it possible to have a program to toggle,at least to remove the need for installing and uninstalling? I suppose it is not possible to avoid the soft reset?

I will provide you one this evening. BTW: TomTom for instance works perfectly with this resolution. iGO also doesn't work with 96dpi on VGA as far as I know. I'm sorry
Cheers,
Tobias
Just surprised why it takes so long for this utility to come out. Very very fantastic!
Good... at last something new to play with since the WM6 flashing.
This is definitely the resolution that brings the X7500 to its fullest rights
As mentioned earlier someone had issues with the Excell but I also had a issue but everything works now
Cool
I'm looking forward for the toggle to switch the display modes. Thanks for your huge contribution.
Does it work with WM6? To come back to factory resolution is it enough to uninstall it?
THX so much!

Yes it works on Wm5 & 6
and uninstalling it actually restores it
PS This looks awesome on the jasjar as well (But obvioulsy nowhere near the X7500

THX so much...about phone skin? Should I use an appropriate skin to use the phone?
Great, but some icons missing
Hi, I love it, however some of the small icons in SPB Pocket Plus / Diary are missing... any chance for a fix?

How about posting some screens for various applications?
right away sir
Thanks for posting the screens.
I guess it's a personal thing, but I prefer to view the device in 128dpi, with wktask, with a 3D glassy top and bottom bar, with both date and time on the taskbar of every screen, just to list some of the main things I would tailor.
Hey, whatever appeal to you, enjoy your device
U can always customize the view and 128dpi can be installed
i'm confused with your screenshots.
are simply qvga, non?

I love changing the color of my theme every now and then. One of the quickest ways of to use tweaks2k2. It gives you the 3d glassy look. Depending on my mood, I like to switch between blue, green, black, etc. Be very careful though when you use tweak2k2. Don't let it trigger any soft reset(always use stylus into the hole method) or else you may be stuck on primary splash and you'll be forced to hard reset.
thanx for the info and warning. i do too. currently running 192dpi, snapvue, and snavue tsk on my rom. will probably go back to setup u see in dual screenies when i get realvga cooked back into rom im currently running.
Does this rom contain the latest Opera? That's the only reason I see to upgrade to this. Font size looks like it does when you change the screen settings to a smaller font on the 'screen' menu. I assume you can change the pink theme with the windows standard.
some clarrification
the opera version is build 8.65(2627)
the rom is overall very fast
the text resolution is vga like and we can get rid of the cuteiii pink colour.
the ap3 dual rom is superior in many aspects but this rom is good for all those who want a clean rom without any addons.
hey powell can u please post a lite addition of your touch dual rom it would be great
perhaps I also forgot to mention that this rom solves the micro drive issue in ameo.
Powell can u please give add ons seperately.

Ok, ive begun testing this ROM Eaglesteve and here are my observations thus far:
Opera is identical to the others, although a nice resolution mod has been done with the url bar, making it smaller and neater than the versions seen in other ROMS. there is no immediate reference to 'opera' within the application in that it is referred to as 'web n walk' in the start menu, and the homepage is www.t-mobilefavourites.co.uk. for those wishing to use t-mobile's tv service this functionality is now restored for wm6.
on the whole i feel that the download and render time with this version of Opera is the slowest i've seen. there is no flash support and this is NOT the latest Opera build (or anywhere near). this indicates that HTC have a limited deal with Opera which does not include the more recent version - no free upgrade then.
I found both browsers to be unusually slow, even after various tweaks.
T-mobile have removed Windows Live from this ROM.
They have included (the completely pointless) F-Secure Antivirus, which annoyingly pops up an installation window upon every soft reset.
The 'H'SDPA icon is not enables by default for some unknown reason. this is surely a step backwards from the old T-Mobile ROM.
t-mobile sounds are preset by default. they are horrendous.
some of the 'band' settings have been removed in line with what's available in western europe.
dialpad is a modified pink|grey, as is the comms screen.
there is a t-mobile home plugin similar to htc's, but with 'web n walk' last dialled, file explorer and SIM manager.
this ROM seems more sluggish than touch dual overall, and is missing a great deal of decent features that id gotten used to with Touch.
will try a hard reset with no installed t-mobile CABs and report back
Thanks for the quick feedback.
You mentioned that the address bar is smaller. This is interesting. Could you post a screen shot on that?

sorry eaglesteve i dont have the screenshot utility that comes with touch, otherwise id send you a screenshot.
update though: this ROM is an absolute dog. it's slooooow, web pages dont load up very fast and for the first time in ages im getting the "this page cannot be found" dialogue in p.i.e. on random occasions. ive also had opera randomly shut down on me twice.
can someone else try this ROM and tell me im not mistaken? the only apps ive installed are wktask, fingertouch and htc home
so far i can't believe t-mobile have unleashed a pile of crap like this on the public. its bad enough that they make their handsets look so rubbish.
one last set of points to t-mobile:
we DONT need antivirus. really.
we DONT need to be asked if we're sure we want to go online/sure we want to close the browser.
we dont like pink today screens and phones with pink bits on them
we DO want you to employ Pawel and the team to develop decent ROMs in future.
Is this ROM the standard WM6 ROM provided by T Mobile to work on the Ameo? The quality is very different from those provided by Dopod.
Just switched back to the Touch Dual ROM.
I encourage anyone Interested in it to avoid this ROM at all costs except for warranty purposes. Glitchy, slow, overbranded, RUBBISH.
YUK.

lol nice.
to the poster asking about vanilla: i could remove everything except pk programs 3.0(task manager+regedit and screenshot app) and leave in tsk, welcomhead, and all the reg edits i have done BUT the available space on the device with or without dual will remain the same.
its not worth it.
use file explorer and go into windows/start menu/programs and removed whatever u dont use. it will clean up the program's folder and u can go ahead and do same with system folder.
it will look clean that way and if u decide u want to use a app that i cooked in you just add shorcut back in. also for battery/qwerty menu just go ahead and remove the shortcuts for those from windows/startup and those are gone.
switch to a different tsk like says windows mobile default and u look vanilla. for say the control panel apps just ignore or remove from windows folder.
Ur rom looks vanilla and it will have same space as a vanilla rom. also u can go ahead after the black tsk is displayed and soft reset device to not install extended rom stuff and reduce apps installed.
@leoni
T Mobile has put its customisations, so if u check opera, the proxy is enabled.
If u remove the proxy all work well.
Results are better, when one flashes only OS.nb converted to NBH and use, so u do not have any T Mobile Crap installed

SPB Mobile 2.0 on Athena (please don't move)

The final version is out and it doesn't work with the 96 DPI on the athena. The tabs are missing in the settings list, which isn't a problem but the tabs have no icons on the home screen. This program looks really useful and I am hoping we can find a way to make it work.
Mods please don't move this thread, it is device specific and I believe the issue would be overlooked in the main thread in the general forums.
Working great over here at 96 DPI! I've installed the final version (2.0.0 build 3275) And so far I haven't seen any drawbacks. Works very smooth, animations without hasitation and a few nice new features.

Good find however I believe he is ignoring the problems with the 96 DPI. Look at his screen shot the list of tabs are missing. And he has no screen shots of the home plugin, which I thought was a big feature of this application.
Thanks sabes143, I forgot to move the information about 192 DPI in this thread.

I agree. It is completely useless. It is impossible to get the tabs working or showing anything meaningful and impossible to get the other menus to stay on the homepage. I would steer clear.
No joy here either with 2.0. No tabs. Today screen plugin is totally useless without them.
Too bad, there are some pieces of it I like!
I saw this posted in the development forum: Password for dat files that are really zip files: b0fm18zq Maybe this will help make the icons show up on the tabs...
Their forums also note that they don;t support RealVGA - that could be the problem (and if it is, that is really shortsighted on their part)...
same problem here,
mobile shell works fine with RealVGA and the 192 dpi setting
but is pretty useless with 92 or 128 dpi activated.
besides the today plugin not working:
in the spb menu (right softkey by default) the icons of all my custom programs look totally crappy, and next to each icon half of the icon of another program is visible.
I have the same issues, except that on my today screen, there are three other icons appearing next to all the icons.
I don't like having so many gestures to go access my applications. Currently my setup is far better than spb mobile. This is what I have:
1.I have date and time on the task bar so what I can see it everywhere. In addition, I have the big clock on my today screen provided by spb time. This lets be have fuller function than spb mobile.
2. I have spb phone suite on my today screen. This is better than what spb mobile offers because in addition to what spb mobile offers, I also havethe ability to switch on/off bluetooth, wifi etc.
3. I use SBSH weather watch today plugin, which of better than spb mobile's weather program because it shows more info, occupies less space, and has much more comprehensive weather stations for smaller towns.
4. I use ilauncher to launch programs. It is much easier and effortsless to configure and customise the icons for all dpi. I also get the safe mode reset capability.
5. I use today agenda to show my calendar and tasklist on my today screen. This is better than pocket informant IMHO because each item takes only one line, so more items could be shown on less space on today screen.
All items are visible at once on my today screen, without any need to swipe any fingers, which is a fun thing to do for just the first few seconds, but is really annoying after that for me.
Don't know, but even i don't like the way it behaves.
Its quite jerky when it does the so called "Animation" when you open contacts or any sub screen.
Its far better to use spb pocket plus or even resco today plugin and get the basic things you need right on your today screen.
Though, its something good to play around for a few days ... but then eventually it boils down to performance. It the device is not snappy, no matter what you do, it will not satisfy ...
Let's give 'em a call!

This is a copy and paste from my blog on thoughts on this rom and 6.5.
http://www.blakemitchellweb.com/blog/?p=31
I use an HTC Touch Pro and recently installed a custom rom running Windows Mobile 6.5. This particular rom was made by Jakdillard and posted at XDA devs. I am not sure about too much of the information as to what parts are used from 6.5 and 6.1. First off I will say that I installed and let customization run first. This had TF3D install and I wanted to get more of a feel for sliding panels. When I disabled TF3D and reenabled Titanium (Thiis the name for sliding panels) it never launched. I thought that there may have been a problem so I did a clear storage. Installation went on again and I did a soft reset during customization. Upon doing this it started back like I had done a clear storage again. This time I let customization run again, did the disable of TF3D and reenabling of Titanium and once again nothing happened but after doing a soft reset titanium was up.
So the performance is pretty wretched. It lags a lot but it is usable. I was able to perform a phone call, get on the internet using the new version of IE, set up google sync in activesync and synced my calendar and contacts, installed and set up funambol for push email, installed amaze gps and was able to get a lock, use wifi, and browsed through pretty much everything. I installed Diamond Tweak and enable some of the tweaks that improve performance but did not see any improvement. When I had IE open my memory was at 85% and it dropped to 37% when I closed it so it is a bit of a memory hog.The new menus are pretty nice and do improve the finger friendliness of the ROM.I like the transparent softkeys and start bar visually, and I like the new honeycomb start menu, although I think it could have been more visually stimulating. Also, We are able to edit the icons that we use on the start bar like we could before and it does not do anything to mess up the new transparent start bar. I installed this cab by tsowen from ppcgeeks and it looks good.
Sliding panels seems pretty nice but there is also a but of a let down. Many people will prefer TF3D or one of the other plethora of shells that can be used on the today screen. Like many of the others shells and today plugins you can't use any other today plugins with this one. I like the look of the sliding panels but the let down comes from the lack of customization straight out of the box. If I could change it I would have sliding panels have each individual setting able to be disabled (i.e. I do not use text messaging because I use email. I would do away with the SMS panel.) Also it is missing some features that are getting integrated into other options. If sliding panels had the ability for developers to develop plugins to cover some of the other areas it would be phenomenal. It is missing some things like weather, rss, im, facebook, and stocks.
I am going to keep running this ROM for another day at least to get a little more familiar. Hopefully I will get a chance to make some screenshots, install second today and see how they play together.

Hopefully I will get a chance to make some screenshots, install second today and see how they play together.

no Problem you can find more updates for this over and www.ppcgeeks.com that is where I generally post
Yeah, I post there more often than here, but had not noticed that it was there until seeing it here and going there to look for it. I thought it was strange that it was here and not there and once I got there I realized you had it in that thread but it did not say 6.5 in the first post (or I overlooked it.) Anyway, I will keep a close eye on that thread.
This a good rom pretty pretty sexy lol ummm i understand its extreme beta an its good i hope yall guys keep doing it up an making it right...yall guys should work for microsoft an htc lol
I have been using Da_g's 6.5 beta 8 for almost a week now and LOVE it. I made the modification to the cpr files to make Titanium a little smoother and more responsive. But the only issues I am left with is when switching from portrait to landscape my phone messes up the image on my homescreen. It clips it and warps it a little. I can fix it by disabling and re enabling titanium or a soft reset.
It always comes back though - does this rom do that?
Also when using RSS hub sometimes the device hangs for up to a minute. On this 6.5. I did not have this on NATF's 4.3 before.
Any help would be appreciated!

Very Happy with it.
Except for memory and slight performance tweaking this build has been working great for me on my sprint touch pro.
Thanks to jakdillard and others who developed this.
Some screen grabs would rock my world. TIA
hot my blog on the first page there are several although with my own background image and different icons.
updated .......

Perfomance is good, Touchflo is slow but that's a normality with .5 till a new version comes out.. other than that this is a nice ROM compared to others
stuck on align screen config page
after install kitchen rom, i am stuck on the align screen page. i tap on the + but it does not register. random circular motions cause it to advance to next location of + but it just repeats.
suggestions?
EDIT-
problem on my device is not limited to this rom:

edit-
a couple of hard resets later and it seems to be working. weird quirk?
In any case, great rom.
Universal CDMA, Sprint, or Verizon?
I haven't seen anything posted saying this is carrier specific. Or what radio is compatible with it.
Can someone elaborate on that?

Help me organize an interface

I have a new Sprint Touch Pro 2 with 6.5 and 2.5, stock ROM. The Today screen works. However, as a smart phone, it really isn't usable as-is. There is a total of 9 quicklinks, and the start menu is a mess. If you move things in the start menu, you break the quicklinks, so best to leave things where they land. Whatever it is that works to organize the interface needs to show unread e-mails, voice mails, and texts on the home/today screen, and a link to contacts, not that lame people thing. I get around this with the stock interface by dropping people out of the slider and pointing one of the top quicklinks to contacts. When I click on a new text message from the slider, it's pretty clumsey if you ask me. I have to look around for delete all etc. Lots of mouse clicks. I've been looking around at the likely suspects and would value your input.
Edit:
1. SPB Mobile Shell 3.5: I installed it for the third time and worked with it. My impression is that it is more about personalization and special effects. My impression is the pieces are not logically woven together to create an environment. First there is the home tab, with exactly 3 home pages, one left, and one right. There are a collection widgets that I can put on them. Second, there is a launcher. The Launcher has some impressive graphics for launching things. However, is seems to represent their concept of organizing the Start Menu into folders. You can see them if you click on the Start Menu. To me, it was confusing. The third area is the Carousel. It is very nice idea for organizing things, but it's pretty much pre-defined. I won't be coming back here because it doesn't match my needs or organizing the many apps the way I want to. It's easy on memory, 42%.
2. I worked with iPhoneToday, today. It has things like voicemail, e-mail, texts, etc. on a bottom row which does not scroll, so the important stuff is always visible. It's perfect for organization. You can add home screens at will and even label then on the top. You can change programs and the tabs they use. You can point them at the .exes or the shortcuts in the Start menu. You change the icon spacing and even have them scale to get more on a line. It's the easiest on RAM coming in at 39%. From an appearance standpoint, they really try. True to it's name, it closely resembles the iPhone. (Rubic's Cube) It uses the same size square icons for everything from volume, battery, etc., to e-mail, texts, etc. It just puts a number on the cube. You look around a bit to find what you want. It would look pretty good to someone who hasn't seen Sense. There are not real docs. The basics your will figure out by simply guessing. The other types of formatting are not as straightforward as CHT. The best source I've found is the wiki http://iphonetoday.wikidot.com/the-menus and to ask questions on the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633618 where people have been very responsive and helpful. Before I tried it, I just thought it was for iPhone wanabes. Not so. Unlike Sense and Mobile Shell, it is in fact a very well thought out environment when you're looking to use your phone as a single device to organize your world.
3. CHT 2.0: Sense by itself doesn't make any sense. Since people have been hammering me to try CHT, I've been following the CHT threads, 1.85 and 2.0. Normally, it makes sense to go with the newer one because that is where development would be, but my concern is the new 2.0 seems to have worn out the Cookie Monster, and he would be too worn out to support it. However, I decided to try 2.0 since the he wrote every line was gone through and made squeaky clean, and he did stick around long enough to wean the product.
Of the hundreds of posts I read, many say it's pretty resource intensive, and not so good for multi-taskers. (Like me) That makes sense, since it adds functionality to the an already pretty good size Sense UI, so that became my expectation. I started thinking that if it adds say 10%, it would make sense that things would get shaky, pretty quickly. Thus it made sense to test before and after adding CHT. The percent RAM usage came in at exactly 52%, and remained there even after using it for awhile. Since iPhoneToday can be run inside Sense, I'm doing that now. What doesn't make sense is it only requires an additional 2% of RAM.
As for multi-tasking, I'm running out of porkers to load and I'm at 72%. (See attached images) After these screen shots I added Oprah and iPhoneToday, which is a UI on top of a UI. After playing around, I was able to get it to 77%. That's more apps than a 5 person office runs at a time. It still loads things fast. Initially, I thought scrolling perhaps was degraded slightly, but later I did before and after and even that wasn't affected. Maybe I don't have to worry.
As for the CHT UI, I read the User's Manual. It's only 12 pages, and 1/3 has to do with installing it. It's simple enough to where if you read it once to understand the paradigm it uses, you won't need to refer to again. I plan to run iPhoneToday inside of Sense/CHT and organize both to see which I like the best.
Edit It was tough to choose between Cookies Home Tab 2.0, AKA CHT 2.0, and iPhoneToday. You can't lose with either because the struggle is to pick the best of the best, rather than pick your poison. iPhoneToday is light, fast, and smooth. It would win if I were a fan of the iPhone interface, but I'm not a fan of anything except functionality and efficiency. In the end I went with Cookies Home Tab 2.0 for these reasons.
- It allows me to use widgets, and place them wherever I need.
- It allows me to place quicklinks called FreeLinks anywhere
- It allows me to have levels (scroll up and down) as well as pages (scroll side to side)
- If it doesn't support what you want directly, you can indirectly. Example: Let's say you want QuickLinks on all of your pages, line the iPhone, but not on the home screen where you have your clock weather. Just make the upper rows on your home screen invisible. Lets say you want one row of QuickLinks to be the same on every page. Simply pin them.
- There is no practical limitation that I've found as to how you arrange things. I can't say that about anything else I've tried.
- Configuration is easier to understand. The book is only 12 pages, 1/3 is install, another 1/3 is common sense, and the other 1/3 tells doesn't lead you step by step, it gives you the concept of operation. Because of that, once you read it, you'll never have to refer back to the manual.
I may not have gotten any help from the thread this time around, but other threads and people here have helped me plenty. Apparently, it was my turn to give back.
Enjoy!
PS: I also played with ThrottleLauncher and the WP7 clone. It didn't make the cut because its organizational capabilities are far too limited for someone like me (IT Architect) who has lots of apps. It's more for people who's life revolves around a close group of friends, music, and social networking. This is not a problem with ThrottleLauncher itself, but rather the design of the WP7 architecture. The real phone has the same problem.
