Bt Hs Replacement - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

ive had it. ive spent practically my whole day off reading through forums searching for a BT HS replacement.
i currently have an HS810. and i think it has outlived its use (dont remember it was ever useful though)
what im looking for for a HS is something that would pair unfailingly with my hermes. just get into my car, turn BT HS on and im paired!
mainly id be using BT HS when driving. option to use it for audio streams would also be nice but not needed (am not a music junkie).
any ideas guys. please spare me from any further misery.

i have no had a single problem with the following BT HS's
Moto RazrWire
Jabra JX10
Logitech Mobile traveler
they all work with voice command, the logitech even has a seperate button for redial last

thanks for the input. i accidentally dropped by a cingular store today (thats what i told my wife to explain the unscheduled purchase) and conveniently got the jawbone. i was just trying my luck actually as i know most cingular stores dont have it. im charging it right now, but am very much skeptical as its bigger than the other HS that i saw in the store. i will see how this thing does. if it fails to impress me, i will certainly try what you have suggested.
thanks for the input.

Which Bluetooth Stereo Headset are you using?

Hi all:
--
I was wondering which BT Stereo Headset [not headphones meaning I can make calls etc] you guys are using with your HTC Wizard or any A2DP device for that matter.
--
My criteria:
1) can be used well with my dopod 838
2) fits well [this is subjective]
3) doesn't move around when I turn my head
4) good battery performance
5) price is not much of an issue
--
I am looking at the following Headsets:
1) Motorola HT820
2) iPhono PLUS BT420Rx
3) iPhono mini BT450Rx
4) iTech S35
5) iTech R35
--
I put the iTech's at 4 and 5 because even if they are BT headsets they still have wires danggling about in other words they are psuedo-wireless .
--
So what are your thoughts about these headsets? Any other headsets I should be looking at? Personal experiences, Links to reviews and/or online shops are welcome. Thanks in advance
a teeny little bump, as i'm looking for one now. (lost the original wired headset)
still no replies... anyway just went around a famous mall here in manila and they don't have any stereo bt headsets! damn!

Was in a mall last night and was told by an okley sunglasses salesperson that they will have a sunglasses/stereo BT headset for music phones soon. Be about $225us I was also told if and when they do come out.

probably a variant of the RAZR wire also from Moto/Oakley [which was an MP3 + shades solution] the problem is I have glasses [thick ones at that... I dunno if the ones you are talking about will have prescription lenses
Wow thats a bit too expensive for something i'll probably loose or break...
After reading the reviews around a bit i finally decided to go with these:

I will let you guys know when i've formed an opinion about them

guy s quick quesiton, .....do other version have the ad2 profile, ...infortunelty i dont think my 8125 has that....at least without using a dongle the size of my phone. Any firmware enhancements to get that profile ????lol
I installed the latest rom (2.8?) and it should have that a2dp in it.
I should be receiving my iphones today so i will let you know if it works.
so the 8125 is compatable with the ad2 profile def let me knw that would be great damn these devices are great
Finally! just received the i-phono 450rx
It works! And might I say, quite beautifully too.
Very decent sound quality (playing music now) I'm test-wearing it now and it's still pretty comfortable after 2 hours use.
There is a very slight hiss, only audible when no sound is playing.
The phone-headset function is not fantastic but people can understand me and i understand them. So what more do i want?
Bought it for playing music anyway.
I'm not really sure what a 8125 is, but if it's a "HTC wizard-device" it should work with the latest rom.
edit:
I just saw this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42569
its about a2dp and your 8125, you might get it to work without a rom ugrade
thanks man
How will I know when the A2DP update is availailable other than this site? Where are the updates usually found? I really am anxiously awaiting being able to purchase a good set of bt headphones for my 8125.

Can you advise whether the iPhono 450rx support voice dialling please?
TIA

Finally got my own stereo bt headsets. Got myself an iTech Blueband [it looks the same as the Sonorix and ANYCOM headsets] it works with the Qtek Test ROM although sometimes the music cuts in and out. Also it is not as comfortable [for my ears atleast]
Alternately I use a bluespoon ax2, and a jabra bt250v. love them both.

I have the 450rx and according to the manual there is no way to actually initiate the voice dialing from the headset itself. I havent got the manual with me atm but from memory it said something like: For voice dialing, you must initiate the voice dial function from the handset and then you can talk into the microphone to tell the phone / pda who to call etc.
So, technically it is sort of possible, but i would prefer not to have to press the voice dial button on the K-JAM as it sort of defeats the purpose of using the voice dial function. Even though i have only just got the 450rx (and can't use it as i-mate still hasn't released A2DP) i am already on the lookout for a stereo headset that has PROPER voice dial.

Chris

I want stereo bluetooth + FM Radio + earbuds.. 'Cause I'm spoilt

Afternoon Folks,
I guess we all want our ideals and dreams fulfilled.. so my aspirations are small really...
My TyTN pleasure would be boundless if I could get some bluetooth headphones/handsfree with an FM radio built in that either had, or I could attach some decent sony earbud ear phones (gotta blank out the incessant crap-chat on the train to work in the mornings ) rather than the pad ones that just fall out every other step..
So I'm thinking my only (currently available) option would be to get a Nokia HS-12W headset and pay a grown up to change the earphones over...
My questions are...
1. Anyone tried a HS-12W with a TyTN?
2. Anyone know of a person/company in the UK who would do the electronics sorcery?
3. Anyone think of a better way to achieve my modest dreams?
Thanks,
Andy
I have some Nokia HS-12W bluetooth headphones and to be honest I am disappointed with the results which I suspect has more to do with the phone than the headset.
I find that if I am more than about a metre away from the phone or the phone's memory is in anyway dealing with any other task, that I get constant skipping. I have come to the conclusion that this is because the phone memory can't keep up with the streaming but that is just a guess.
Also, I have found that the radio reception is a bit poor so quite often I get a lot of static noise, even on the strong stations. Sometimes it's okay though.
It is possible that either my headset or my phone are in some way faulty because I have read other peoples posts regarding the HS-12W and they have had some good results. Perhaps I am just unlucky
I have resorted to going back to using the standard headphones and using streaming radio instead (I am on T-Mobile so doesn't cost silly amounts of money for the data use).
Thanks for your reply Nicky...
I'll have a search myself for feedback on the HS-12W... I tried earlier and couldn't find anything directly tried with a TyTN but I'm crap at searching..
The closest "off the shelf" option seems to be one of itech's old PowBox's... LINK HERE it fulfills everything I want apart from it's not stereo bluetooth... it's mono... but at the moment I'm kinda thinking that may be a better option than trying to find someone to change the earphones on the Nokia, and then it perhaps not work afterwards...
From what others have written here the itech prodcuts in general seem to work ok with the TyTN so maybe an older itech product will work seamlessly! Yeah right!
Yep... my one beef with the HS-12W is the range (2-3 meters or so). I think its fidelity when in range is awsome though and it plays skip free too.
I've never tried the FM radio on it to be honest...
Thanks Sleuth
Do all the buttons on the Nokia work with the TyTN?
I was put off the itech R35 when a few people on here said some of the buttons aren't compatible...
Thanks,
Andy
Just out of interest, does anyone know what the difference is between the Itech S35, S38 and R35.
I was thinking of trying one of these to see if the range/skipping was any better than the HS-12W but also, I have some fontopia headphones which I would quite like to use and this would be quite a good solution for that too.
I have looked on the Itech website but am still struggling to see any comparitive difference.
@sts_missle: From an AVRCP standpoint, all the buttons work just fine with WMP. I can skip tracks, pause and control the volume without issues.
There's no AVRCP support at all for TCPMP/CorePlayer 1.0 yet however. This is a problem with those apps, not the HS-12W though. I believe CorePlayer AVRCP support is in the very near future though since it seems that the Technology Preview had it.
Thanks again Sleuth.
I've just found out the itech PowBox can't stream audio from a device, only from itself, (256mb memory or the radio) and it's a big ol' thing too, so the Nokia it is then..
Now I've just got to find someone who'll swap the earphones over for me...

I posted my impressions with my TyTN in this thread

Possible the headset may have been faulty but I will wait till it is available from a B&M store before trying again. Got it from store.treocentral.com

The problems you have are all tytn specific and have been experienced by everyone with various different headsets. Please read the A2DP threads and the ms-voice 1.6 threads.

I had, and still have no problems with my Nokia HS-12W headset initiating MS VC 1.6 or using A2DP, so clearly the Jabra is at fault. Added to which the headset would not power on after a charge seems to indicate the headset was faulty. Maybe you should read what I actually posted before dispensing advice.
I did read what you said, and it seemed to me that it was all items that i've read before on the other posts. Sorry.
Are you getting a replacement for the Jabra? I'm also interested in the BT8010.
I have been using the BT-8010 without any problems for the past 2 weeks with the Cingular 8525. I can use VC 1.6 to iniate calls and can also use the stereo function with the A2DP fix. Overall, voice quality is excellent though the stereo sound is only OK. Prior to the BT8010, I had the BT8000, but this was way too big and heavy. I selected this model primarily because I can use it to make/receive calls (30 number memory, called ID) without having to remove my phone from my case.
As an added plus, I also use the BT8010 with my computer and can communicate through SKYPE w/o any problems and with excellent voice quality on both ends.
Overall, I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it.

thanks for your feedback! how comfortable is it in your ear? the two ear pieces together make it look a little bulky... how does it look? does it look silly when you're walking on the street? i would also wear this while i'm skiing... is it durable??
The BT8010 is very comfortable to wear and is fairly lightweight. Honestly, I only use the one main piece most of the time (80%) and attach the second smaller piece when making skype calls on my pc/listening to audible. The BT8010 holds fairly steady on the ear when walking around and I feel secure wearing it. With both pieces attached, the BT-8010 still feels comfortable and I sometimes forget that I have it on. Overall, the BT8010 seems very durable, the software can be upgraded, and it comes with a 2yr warranty from Jabra.
From my experience, it's an excellent unit.

What A2DP fix are you referring to?
I just decided to go with the BT8010 for my 8528 and am having some problems. I am having difficulty initiating calls from the headset, it usually seems to be in music mode. Also, when I sometimes do go to initiate the call, it does initiate voice dial, but does not give the indicator beep for when I should speak. I am using the Cyberon Voice Speed Dial that came with the 8525. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks
Maybe try MS Voice Commander 1.6 ?
I don't think that would work either. Half of the time, my voice dialing would not go through and the connection would not be maintained between the BT8010 and the 8525. Doesn't matter anyway. I got tired of trying to figure it out. I returned it and am going to look for a simple BT earpiece that will connect easily, hopefully stay connected and will allow me to use voicedialing. That is what I mainly need it for. I thought that with the stereo BT it would be good for streaming music, but that didn't work very well. I'm not sure where my problems were coming from, but I think it was a combination of both the BT8010 and my 8525. I would have to give that combination a thumbs down, but that was just my experience.
Its too bad you were having problems.
After 2 days this headset is nothing short of awesome for me. I use WM6 so that may be why it works better but so far I haven't had any problems.
I did a mini review in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302202

two devices, one headset

is it possible for incomng/outgoing calls to use the same bluetooth earpiece with two devices?
if so... what brand should i get?
the two devices are a Blackstone and a Polaris.
Thats a question I would love an answer to. So far the onlt bluetooth device that i've found to do this is the Jabra BT8040. I own one and it works as advertised though with some bugs....
TechAnimal
what kind of bugs?
An example, when you're in a call with one phone and the other rings, it switches to the ringing phone without you answering, which leaves the person you were speaking to wondering what the heck happened.
TechAnimal
I could live with that... I just switch one off =)). Kidding now... it's rather rare when this happends. Just that I can't find the earpiece here... i searched each romanian online store... nothing

Sure, it is called BlueAnt and I have two of them. Both the black color and the red color. Couldn't decide which one to get, so went for both colors.
However, one is sufficient!
The z9i:
http://www.myblueant.com/z9i_headset.htm
Since then they have come out with a newer model called V1, which has voice command build into the bluetooth.
http://www.myblueant.com/v1_voice_control.htm
I paid $75 each for the z9i year ago, they are now less than $40 each .
KOR!
Also, they give you a cable for firmware upgrade. When I bough mine it had v1.0 firmware on them, since then I have upgraded to v1.1

Jabr BT8010 can do it as well. I own one and its a pretty cool peace of toy. Especially to see on the screen of the headset who is calling and that you can even dial with this headset names from your phoneboock is very convinient. I dont want to miss it anymore.

was my pleasure to help you.
I did buy it from vodafone, on points (was free for me)
you can try in there if you have some points.
SE HBH-DS980 works fine with two devices.
gentillo
too many wires I already ordered the plantronics earpiece. as soon as it arrives i'll let you know how it works.
it arrived
While on vacation, the earpiece arrived.
+ good sound quality
+ easy pairing
+ it pairs to more than two devices
+ accessories (it was shipped with different earbugs and earloops, to fit more customers)
= battery life
- small range: if more than 5 meters (even with direct line of sight) the call could be considered as dropped
- no car charger or USB charger in the package (uses proprietary charging socket)
I'd say it's a 8/10.

Eh?! What the deuce? I use this headset every day but never knew you can get dual connections on it?
Are you sure you don't mean multiple PAIRING? I haven't seen a headset (other than dodgy $5 nobrand ones) that can't multi-pair, it's pretty much a prerequisite of any bluetooth headsets to even make it to market these days.
But being able to connect to more than 1 host device is the challenge here...eg: listening to music via A2DP on the Blackstone and have my music automatically pause to answer a call coming in a Trinity for example...and vice versa... and if I press the voice command button, which phone does it issue the voice command to... etc..

Hi guys, anyone here encountered this issue of a non-stereo headset (mine is an SE HBH PV705) that while playing music/audios, it would cutoff from the headset and play through the ppc-speaker at every 4-5 mins.?? Each time I'll have to press the headset button to resume listening through the headset.
...I've never had this issue with my WM5 ppc with the same headset - I can listen through the headset for hours even w/o any interruptions.
...solved.
For in car use both Nexus and Movon have products that do this - both available from amazon.co.uk or were last time I looked:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=227944&C=AffilWin89477&T=41513_
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Movon-MK30-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Car/dp/B001EKMRVU
Jabra BT 8010 or 8040 do the job well with the glitches already mentioned with simultaneous calls. They have "multipoint technology" that is they poll both the handsets alternately making both think that have an individual headset paired.
I had problem with 8040 due to sweating. Sweat like hell.. and they are NOT water resistant, something you need to keep in mind if u are planning to get one.

Yes, I also have the problem. I got a headset which can connect two mobiles, both are Nokia but I can't do that with one PPC phone and one Nokia?
What wrong or may be some setting on PPC need?
Thanks

Pls guys... dont tell me none of you had this issue.....

Hey,
I got mine sorted.
I bought something very similar to THIS
My one is slightly different. Only has one button on, which isn't going to get used anyway!
The above one would do the same I'd imagine.
Cost me £11 from Best Buys
Works an absolute treat. And sounds much better than my old iPhone.
Just need to run another cable from the adapter to the phone, and away you go!
Hmmm... that is a good solution for this....
But then again i think there was an HTC phone review where i saw this option pop out when u connect anything into the jack... lets see...
As for that .... ya that is a good option...
But lets hope someone comes along for another solution...
Ill have to check if something similar to that Jack is sold here in my country in India...
Thanks for the heads up man... appreciate it
wanted to post this as a seperate thread..also posted it as an answer to another nrelated thread where the question came up..
these are stereo headsets for music and calls...the ear bud options might work for you guys while driving:
I own 3 bluetooth headsets (yes i own every tecky geeky corny cool gadget I can find...usually I just test them out and sell them for a profit on ebay ).
I bought these Samsung SBH600 on woot during a one day sale for 55 bucks (shipping included) and you cant find them anywhere now (sorry...if you wait anywhere between a couple of months to a year woot may have them again..its one sale a day there). They are 30% passive noise canceling and really good quality. Can be used both for music and calls:
http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=14521
These also have a wire for a 3.5 mm jack so you can use for music only if you ran out of juice.
This is the amazon listing in case it ever become available again:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CX03PA/sr=8-2-fkmr1/qid=1286355036/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1286355036&sr=8-2-fkmr1&seller=
For comparable ones you can find the previous model but i cant vouch for those:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SBH500-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headset/dp/B0016I6GUS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=mobile&qid=1294670770&sr=8-1
You will have to check reviews and I do not think those have any noise cancelling properties. I think they also lack the 3.5 mm jack.
i also have the moto rockr headset:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LXR0BW/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=1278548962&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001EKQQ5S&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0D7YT72QD8CD9NMWYTKH
This one is more of a startreky kind of look like a backwords visor. They have earbuds and it hangs behind your head. Good quality and has volume control and answering calls etc. Does not have 3.5 mm jack so bluetooth is your only option or noise cancelling.
Finally I have the very first version of these sony bluetooth headsets which also have a little led display on them. They can connect to more than one device so you could have them connected to your ipod and phone together for example (I think the samsung has that too but I havent tested it out).
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Ericsson-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B003DQ1DCM/ref=pd_cp_cps_0
Other options I do not own and cannot vouch for:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-S305-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B002BH3I9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1294671987&sr=1-1
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DRBT101-BLK-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B001QXDSMW/ref=sr_1_8?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1294671987&sr=1-8
hope this helps...its usually the stero headsets which will play music and then answer calls...the ear muff style is good for planes etc..the earbud style for driving and stuff...
