Funny how a MS product is available on Blackberry OS before their own Mobile OS.
Good stuff.
The Voice command stuff never really worked very well. My Fuze is already frustrating enough to operate without it trying to decipher my voice. I'd almost rather have a Google Maps one anyway. Windows Live Search allowed spoken commands but I don't think it was as interconnected as this TellMe app.

Ya I thought that too but to be fair, MS acquired the company while they were already pretty far in development for just the BB app.
Windows Live Search (now called Bing) just allowed you to search for places around you. This allows you to search for anything, scores, stocks, etc. I'm most interested in the SMS dictation though. A lot of my friends and I communicate via txt so you can imagine, having a touch screen phone, being able to dictate a response when I'm driving would be very handy.
sorry for the strong bump...
but anybody have any luck finding a version of microsoft tellme?
the youtube videos are sooooo enticing.
MS Voice Command missing
I flashed a 2PC 6.5 ROM for Kaiser and cannot find voice command. I use it to make calls while driving. I found a cab for a Rhodium ROM and installed it. Does not work, gives message "may not work correctly; made for an earlier version of windows". Is VC buried in the 6.5 windows files somewhere?
It's not unless the cook put it in, duttythroy has it ask him for it

Siri is VLINGO
Guys, if you check out the videos, you'll see SIRI IS VLINGO. Maybe a newer version, but it's still vlingo.
I could not resist to urge the laugh when I saw that Apple is actually not innovating this time, but copying and lagging behind at least 6 months.
The whole design, look and feel of the application is exactly that of "Voice Talk" on my Samsung Galaxy S II. Which is actually made by Vlingo.
It seems like apple's momentum is slowing down.
Siri is faaaaaaaar far away from Vlingo.
Vlingo is a voice parser "do that", "update facebook", "send to XXXX subject YYYY text ZZZZZZ"
Siri is gramaticaly far away from this. It is suposed that if you say "Siri, send a mail to XXXXX with this: blablalballblalbalbla" and siri will ask you for the subject, if you dont want it, you will be able to say "no, withouth subject" or "send it, i don't care". And siri will do it.
As I said it is suposed to work like this Siri.
For example, I installed Vlingo, I asked for the weather in Barcelona (Spain), and it said me "no coincidence".
On siri you can ask for the weather, if this afternoon are going to rain... and siri will UNDERSTAND you ( understand != parse ) and will give you the same answer... because at the end, you want to know the same: weather.
I love android as much as I can.... but if siri works as it's suposed to work and as Apple said... there isn't anything on android that works like that (yet).

Nope. If you start using Google Voice Search and you have infact enabled something idk the exact sentence but its a personalized voice. Everytime you tell it to search something, it learns your vocabulary, how you talk. Thats basically what Vlingo does too. If you download vlingo and then start telling it to do ****, its not going to work, you have to talk carefully the first few times.
I just tried vlingo, i said "Weather in Frisco, Texas" and it brought up google and showed me the weather.
Sure its not as UIcandy as Siri, but it does what it does. Siri is AI, i know that and i know that vlingo isn't. but think about it. Vlingo is ONE app, vs a thousand in the voice market. Siri was a COMPANY. BOUGHT by apple and refined.
If Google took time to actually do crap like this, it wouldn't take long at all. Their Google Voice search is only a step behind because Siri understands when you talk in a accent etc.
Still not the same. Google's speaker icon works great for what it is, and Vlingo goes a step further, but Siri goes way beyond Vlingo.
If you tell Siri: "Remind me to call home when I leave work." It will (supposedly). It will know when you left work by your location changing, and it will wake up and say "Remember to call home, would you like me to connect you now?" or something like that (supposedly).
There is no app that does anything like that (I just tried a bunch).
As far as I can tell from searching/trying apps, there is no app that will even let you set an alarm or add an event to your Google Calendar using only your voice.
Now my guess is, it's not going to work in the real world as well as it does in those Apple Ads. I expect tons of tech news saying it sucks. If it does work as good as they promise though, I hope we get it soon. If not, I might actually consider jumping ship to an iPhone in a year or too (naw, just kidding... it is an awesome feature I would use all the time though, if it really works like the ads).

It will be a failure, microphones are not so powerful to hear ur lovely voice... There no 100% gurantee on streets u talk like that, and u got siri wrong doing... Siri is just another bunch from google and voice search, vllingo, speaknoit, siri needs a quiet space then ur recognition will be just lovely as u wanted.... Siri is just another classic failure... What a big disaster...

???
Have any of u thats saying what siri is going to do actually use siri? I mean damn it might be the best thing since sliced bread or it might be a gimmick if you let someone sell u something its goin to sell it to the best of its ability not say well u have to calibrate your voice and all that...**** if ur impressed then ur impressed but if u never used it yourself don't speck on it just because you see a couple of apple you tube videos
It's a shame that android will never get Siri.. Siri was originally being made FOR android. Til apple bought it, for that very reason.
Whats the bet it'll now never be made for android?
Does anybody know of an app or hack/mod that gives total voice control for people of low vision/blind?
I'm trying to find such a thing for a friend who wants to get an android tablet but this seems to be the biggest drawback- no apps that do this. I have found some that mainly do voice and texting but nothing to the extent of total voice control.
Now by voice control I mean something that can be activated by a short press or double press of the power button or volume keys etc.
Please no smart ass remarks. Regardless of a persons ability to see or not, they should be able to use a device if they so choose.
Thanks for any help in advance.
you are evolutionary success, act like it
Any suggestions? Anyone?

if u are asking for a powerful siri alternative for android, there is no such thing. To be honest I'm not sure even siri would be powerful enough to do everything u are asking. Sorry
There is nothing like that for Android.
Thanks guys, appreciate your time in looking

The closest one to Siri (in looks) is "andy".
but choose Iris or Siri or Skyvi for best functionality.
Voice Actions, iris., Speaktoit, Vlingo Virtual Assistant, AIVC, Skyvi, Edwin Speech-To-Speech, EVA Intern, OMEGA - Virtual Assistant, EVAN Intern, DROID Virtual Assistant. Enjoy

Jesus Christ, if you want to show how much better Android is, flash CM9 or AOKP and show him off all the customization.
Plus, face fx in video. Plus Flash support. Plus 1080p @ 30FPS w/ 30Mb/s support. I could go all day.
Let him show you Siri.
You just change your battery.
Hi,
I would like to change the voice of S-Voice. I prefer other TTS Engines out there. It seems to ignore the TTS Engine settings you set in the OS Menu.
Also, is there a way to switch between a male and female voice ?
Thanks.
dont bother changing it just delete s-voice , its the biggest pile of junk ever
I completely disagree with you ! I actually like S-Voice alot ! Its one of the reasons I bought the S3 in the first place !! Yes it might not get all the sarcasm of Siri, but it has its own advantages, I love how I can control so many functions of the phone just by voice (Especially the morning alarm ! The voice activated snooze or stop is AWESOME !) So anyway, I personally like it !
it cant even control opening radio / music and apps .. and updating fb n twitter using it is just rubbish and the constant network error and i cant understand anything lol . vlingo has never been good and probably never will be
anyway to change between male and female goto language and input then text to speech output .. samsung tts is a woman and google text to speech is a male
also click on the cog next to samsung tts to change tone of voice etc
Im not sure if you have used s-voice or not :S
It can play music very well, I asked it this morning to "play me some music by David guetta" and in no time It opened up my music player and played "Little bad girl" !!
I asked it to update my facebook status and it asked me right away what I wanted to say, and then updated it just fine !
So again........its doing everything I want it to do with no problems what so ever !
BTW I hate Vlingo too, its a crappy program, but S-Voice is VERY VERY different from vlingo, I actually went on my S2 and started comparing and vlingo couldnt do ANY of the things SVoice did, it simply didnt understand any sentence unless It was an exact command.
yes i have used s-voice many times and have a clear english accent . s-voice is only vlingo with a skin .... i am actually right now talking to my cousins s3 and asking it to update facebook with something and it comes up with something totally different .. and also when asking it to update twitter it trys top update facebook .. asked it to play bob marley , it played oasis, then everything else i just asked it said network error , exactly the same as my s-voice b4 i deleted it
Wierd......didnt face that many issues with mine !
Well, it did misunderstand me a few times........I told it to open facebook once and then it came back saying "I dont understand what you mean by Dicks" lol ? Not sure how it translated FB to dicks........but that was funny anyway
The network error message is the only thing that really bothers me about S-Voice.
OP, did you work out how to do this? I have the same problem, I want to use Ivona TTS as well...
Nope, I didnt.........S-Voice app would have to be modified to use the OS TTS engine and thats not gonna be easy. Well I definitely dont have the expertise to do that, so hopefully someone out there would be able to !

How can you configure s voice to snooze your alarm ? I haven't really used s voice that much but this seems like an interesting function Thanks in advance !
You go to Settings >> Language and Input >> Voice cmd for apps
Turn it on and tap on it again to access it, there you will see a list of apps/actions you can do , you choose which ever ones you want to activate.
Thats one of the features im still enjoying in my S3 But be carefull its soo easy to yell STOP and then go back to sleep !

I figured this out!
Go into your settings(phone settings) and pick whatever TTS engine you want.
Then, double tap the home button to enter s voice, and then hit the back button two or three times to completely exit S Voice.
Double tap the home button again and the voice ought to have applied.
EDIT: Also, if you want to use like an Ivona British voice, you also need to select the United Kingdom English in S Voice's settings. Or, you can simply have Ivona only install the voice data for whichever voice you want, and it should carry over to S Voice regardless of which version of English s voice is set to.
Or, if that doesn't work, something I once encountered, use the Application manager and Disable all but the TTS engine you want to use. Also force close them and clear their data. Then clear S Voice's data. Get into s voice again and disable, then re-enable the voice prompt. IF all else fails, that -should- do the trick.

you must have some crazy accent that yourself didn't notice.
After I downloaded the HD tts files, I tested it in S Voice and got the same old voice.
While in S Voice I hit the menu button and chose Settings. It brought up an S Voice settings menu.
From there I selected language. (which will be set to whatever your default language is. For me it was English (United States))
I then select another language. As soon as I selected it I was taken back to the S Voice Settings menu.
I selected language again and set it back to English (United States)
When I tested S Voice again that horrible robotic voice was gone
