Any ROM in a CID-Unlocked G4 Wizard? - G4

It is possible to install a G3 ROM in a CID-Unlocked G4 Wizard?

Yes, any wizard ROM will do as long as it DOES NOT CONTAIN A BOOTLOADER UPDATE. Just about all custom ROMs are fine as they don't usually contian bootloaders but phone networks updates usually have a bootloader in.

G4 - Different IPL/SPL

I tried to serach this on the forums but could not find a similar case.
I have a Qtek that originally came with 2.22.17.1 rom, both IPL/SPL being 2.22.0001.
I CID unlocked my G4 Wizard with imei-check. Before installing Qtek's 2.17 ROM in order to get BB Connect running (which I did), I backed up the original ROM via aWizard and r2sd all.
Two days later, frustrated by the not so cool reconciliation of my email messages via BB Connect and the poor performance of 2.17 ROM, I decided to move back to the original one.
Now my IPL is 2.22.0001 and the SPL is 2.17.0001.
Do I have to Should I be concerned about this or should I forget it?
Thanks
Rafael K
If you're device still boots ok then I think it's not much of a problem. It's very strange though, haven't seen it before.
Solved Partially
The device was and is working ok (so it seems).
Well, I have installed T-mobile 2.21 rom this morning in order to try BB Connect again. I must say that this ROM is much faster than QTek's 2.17 (and very similar in performance when compared to QTek's 2.22 - the one my PPC came with).
Now I have IPL/SPL both at 2.21. I imagine that if I try to get back to QTek 2.22, I will end up with IPL 2.22 and SPL 2.21.
I'm afraid that when I dumped the whole original ROM before starting to play with other roms, the SPL wasn't copied correctly. I didn't see any errors while restating the original rom, but who knows what may really be the cause...
Thanks for your reply.
You got 2 of the same version numbers now. I wouldn't flash another ROM that contains IPL/SPL if I were you because it could have side-effects.
If you like the speed of the T-Mobile rom than you will be really impressed by the great custom roms around on this site. If you're device is still CID-locked (can only be unlocked through paying at imei-check) I suggest Molski's 2nd 2.26 edition rom. Allways take the G4 version, never flash a G3 rom!
Thanks, Vippie.
I now understand I have to get rid of the IPL/SPL portion of the roms available. When I have more time, I will read about it and make it a "personnal best practice"...

Well, I would certainly like to give other ROMs a shoot but I am really interested in maintaining the blackberry connect service working here and, up to now, as I understanding, the best combinations for that involve Qtek version 2.17 or Tmo 2.21 ROMs.
Best,

Idea for permanently CID unlocking G4?

I was just thinking about the whole IMEI-CHECK website... Is there any way to build a program that based on IMEI, can generate the unlock file for the program used by IMEI-CHECK?
Here is the G4 WIZARD unlock program provided on their website for people to take apart and disect to see if you can figure out how to make a program to generate the unlock file based on IMEI.
I know warez are frowned on here and this is why I only posted the program which can be downloaded here but technically the program is freeware, it's the unlocking service that isn't free and thats what we're trying to fix.
well i guess if it was so easy, people would do it before .
right now i'm flashing with Softspl , and no problems - i'm happy with it ! .
Yes I was using SoftSPL for a few days but since then I got a handset exchange and was gifted with a G3 which got CID unlocked as soon as I put my battery in it.
I am just thinking about it because I used to have a G4 and SoftSPL is simple and almost the exact same thing as stand alone RUU, it even calls the RUU when it is time so it is even the same number of clicks but it just isn't the same thing... I don't have to worry about any of it at all. I can flash happy from one custom rom to the next and never even think twice(is this gonna mess up my phone?) I just don't even have to think about it since even my IPL/SPL can be changed. All available roms are now safe for me to just run the Ruu and be good to go.
I think that is why it would be nice to see a way to permanantly CID unlock so that you COULD change the IPL/SPL and not have to worry about permanently bricking your phone if you accidently flash a rom with the wrong IPL/SPL.
I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from too...
No...
Even with a CID-unlocked G4 (By IMEI-check), flashing a G3 RUU still bricks the device, so it is not related to unlocked or not, it is a matter of G3 or G4 IPL/SPL.
What CID-unlocking in G4 gives is completely the same with SSPL.
Hard SPL for G4 already exists
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
With this 2.21.olipro SPL the fix is permanent (until another SPL is flashed over)

Unlocking & installing a new rom on a different language on a G4

Hi there,I have a MDA Vario from T-Mobile UK and is SIM locked :| as far I know to unlock it is doing it throught IMEI and paying isit?
Once unlocked I need to change the language from english to spanish,I dont know where to get the ROMS from,I found a cooked one but I would like the default one from WM.
If I install any room or cooked rom do I need do like the G3 series,CID unlock etc?
Thanks!
Firstly, you messed up SIM lock and CID lock. SIM lock only limits the carrier you can use. What limits the flashing of unofficial ROM is CID lock. SIM lock can be removed using lokwiz, CID does not (on G4). And No, you don't need to pay for unlock now, see below.
Before you can proceed, you have to find a Official Spanish Wizard ROM (Does it ever existed? I don't know)
Then, use typho5 to verify that the ROM does not include IPL/SPL, or you will need to rebuild the ROM that doesn't include the two files, otherwise you will most likely brick the Wizard.
After you get a correct ROM, use HardSPL or SoftSPL to overcome with the CID flash protection, then use RUU to flash your desired ROM.
Study the stickies are most important.

HTC G4 Wizard Upgraded to WM6 now I cant Use Other ROMS?

I have a Wizard 110 (HTC P4300 from Unicel, prolly the most rare carrier to find using this phone lol)Its a G4 and I used the awesome and easy tutorials in here to use HARDSPL to flash a really nice WM6 rom (Underground_edition_Crossbow_ROM)
I saw that TNT had a new TouchFlo release for my phone, but when I try to flash it to the phone it says my updater is too old (Error 300). I flashed back my original ROM to the phone and it still says the same thing. I was just wondering if I'm stupid and missing one little simple thing to do (my typical luck).
Thanks for your time!
in my experience, even with HardSPL applied, you still have to use the SoftSPL loader each time you want to change your ROM on a G4 device...at least, thats what I have to do.
I would go and grab the SoftSPL package from the G4 sub-forum sticky, and use that. Just follow the instructions and you should be fine!
Download the Mun's RUU from the HardSPL thread, replace this with RUU in the TNT Rom and run the RUU,it'll flash.
To flash official rom, you'll first have to remove HardSPL,read in the G4 sub-forum about 'How To Remove HardSPL'.

SoftSPL or HardSPL?

Question is in the poll. I am wandering, what do You think about CID Unlocking on G4?
CID Unlocking on G4?
First, its highly inappropriate Poll, its determined/confirmed that a G4 device cannot be CID unlocked permanently like a G3 device,All other methods are just work arounds to make think (Trick) a G4 device that its CID unlocked SuperCID.
It may be tricked to believe its SuperCID for once with 'SoftSPL' for use in single flash,it reverts back to CID locked as soon as it reboots the device and original official Bootloaders (IPL/SPL) are loaded back or semi_permanent method through 'HardSPL' ,where patched IPL/SPL are flashed to make the Bootloaders temporarily SuperCID,but infact,in actual the device always remains CID locked. Both the methods, SoftSPL and HardSPL are just temporary work arounds.
There are Pros & Cons for both, its everyone's personal preferences, how he wud like to go about it.
I wudn't personally vote for which is better or not !!!
I know facts about G4 CID can not be unlocked, therefore I am wondering which one of following lame methods You prefere to do...
