Being relatively new to Windows Mobile (long time Palm user), I'm trying to come to grips with some of the quirks of this platform.
I would like to group my shortcuts into logical areas such as applications, utilities, media, etc and was able to create folders and move the shortcut link files into those folders. So far so good.
However when I went into some of these folders by accessing the Programs folder, I was faced with a huge delay before all the icons showed up on screen. I also ran into a problem when uninstalling some programs only to find they left the shortcut behind (because it was not in the expected location I assume). I ended up undoing all I had done and now my shortcuts appear quickly again, but of course there are now a large number of them all in the Programs folder which is what I was trying to avoid.
How do people normally deal with the fact that every program installs a shortcut in the default Programs folder and you end up with an unwieldy number of shortcuts in one place?
I've not had an issue with this, as if the icons are in the programs folder there is sufficiant cache for this to be scrolled relatively quickly.
The last 4-6 applications are available on the quick launch area of start menu anyway...
May I suggestion something like SPB Pocket Plus or some other of SPBs finest apps if you wish to sort your icons out... you can have them on the deskop then for faster access...

Hi,
I've installed several apps and tweaks on my TP and I believe one of them gives a very undesired side effect - just not sure which one.
In the Programs Tab I have now a third page of place holders - except, they don't do anything. I can't load another app onto them. And if I try, they stay blank but another place holder appears next to it, making the page longer and longer.
I have not figured out how to get rid of them or use them or reverse the effect. But it does give me trouble getting to the second page of the usable soft buttons. It just quickly scrolls past it.
If anyone has any ideas, I would like to hear them.
Possible culprits: Advanced Configuration Tool or AE Button Mapper....
Found the Solution / Fix!
You can only have 18 icons in the programs tab, the new one/s that keep popping up are useless. You can get rid of them by going in to your registry and delelting the offending entries.
Navigate to - HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\
In here look for a key that does not belong, you should have 0-17, when I get a rogue program icon it is usually listed as 100. Delete the whole key and voila the icon is gone. You don't have to reboot all you have to do is navigate to another tab and back to programs and the icon will be gone.

So out of habit from my PC, I have often pressed the "search" key and "tab" when trying to switch apps, obviously not doing anything. So I messed around for a sec, and realized that pressing "Alt" and then "Tab" brings up an app switching mode, very identical to Windows! I don't know if this was common knowledge, but it seriously made me fall in love with this thing all over again! Thought someone might find this helpful.
Most keyboard shortcuts found in Windows work in their related Android counterparts. For instance, in the stock browser CTRL+T opens a new tab, CTRL+R reloads a page etc. Copy & pasting works with CTRL+C/V in programs like Polaris Office, etc.
Some apps don't have keyboard shortcut support, but most Google apps do and a lot of top tier apps also support keyboard shortcuts.
Im looking for an app which would show some popup window containing apps/folders which I've selected.
The idea is that I could quickly access my most-used apps, and maybe folders, without flicking through many home screens.
Im using the stock A2.1 launcher (on SE x10mp).
any suggestions?
TIA
Im not sure, but maybe Folder Organizer or App Organizer apps could help you.
Many launchers with dock, can handle folders on dock for fast access.
Cheers.
It's a widget not a popup but you could give My most used apps widget a try. Never used it myself.
thanks, but Im looking for something which could anytime popup a window from which I can launch my most -often used apps or access most-often used folders.
on my nexus one i just press and hold my search key which brings up android recent apps. i think the same functionality should be embedded with all phones as its built into android.
I have that too on my x10mp (with the home button).
but recent apps isnt the same as most used apps (I might have 20 of the latter). also, this feature doesnt show quick link to a folder or a file.
Hey! I have Grand Theft Auto III installed to my SD card as it seems to not crash as often and alleviates space on my internal storage. I store the shortcut for it in a folder on both my home page and app drawer called Games. Every time I restart the phone, the shortcut removes itself from the folder on my home page and puts itself outside of the same folder on my app drawer. Does anyone know why this happens, and if there's something I can do to rectify it? It's only a minor annoyance, but would be nice if I didn't have to keep putting it back in the folders every time I reboot the phone. I have since moved it back to internal storage, and it's resolved the problem, however, I would prefer it to be on my external SD!
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks
James
I had the exact same problem, but it was Go Launcher EX who was guilty of that. This still happens to me, so i just take the folders that are created in the app drawer and drag them to home screen. Now it doesn't happen.
I say again, don't add folder by Menu button>Add>Folder instead go to appdrawer (in your case it will show folders and not apps) drag one of the folder to homscreen and voila!
Maybe this isn't the solution to your problem but as i interpreted it this should be the solution. It worked for me atleast

Hi, got a stupid question, coming from Huawei or One + there was never a problem with app orgnisation.
Situation 400 Apps New installation (Pixel, Sony etc.)
Huawei, Samsung. All apps can be in the drawer organized or the apps are on the Start screen and you can drag and drop them together
The result is all apps as soon they in a Folder are gone from the Start screen (or drawer)
Pixel, sony, etc. the problem is
drag from the drawer 1 5 or 10 apps into a folder on the start screen is easy, but after doing so and xxx apps later nonbody knows which app is organized in a folder.
Is there any feature to help? I do not want another Launcher. It should be possible to bring ALL apps from the drawer to the Start screen which creates probably 20 screen, but from there i can drag them together and whats gone is gone and i know all are in the right place.
Thanks for any help
