Hi there. Sorry if this might be posted somewhere else, but I didn't find anything using the search.
Is there an alternative ROM for the Atom life (explicid life, I think the other Atoms are slightly different because of the lacking 3G feature I think the Chipset will be different).
By now I'm using the WM6 Rom by O2, but I got a very lousy Standby time and I think the Atom could be faster and not using so much of the RAM. By now after Reset I have about 22-23 MB free RAM and I already tweaked quite a lot, without thi tweaking my RAM is down to roundabout 18MB. Are there any other ROMs availible which are more slim. Maybe another Radio ROM which improves Battery life?

Sometimes a 2rd party software is the coz of poor battery life. Specially those in the today plugin. what program did you install in your atom?
Today plugins i have:
SPB Pocket Plus, Diary, Weather, GRPS Monitor
Programs:
Opera, TomTom, PCMKeyboard, PCMContacts, Worms, Monopoly, Uptodate (Medical Sourcebook), Pocket Informant, Total Commander, Ifap Index (Medical Sourcebook), Merck Medicus, SK Tools, MemMaid, CorePlayer
I used all the Programs and Today Plugins also on my MDA Compact II (I think its the HTC Charmer. This one was quite slow, but I never had an empty battery, I even cant estimate my Standbytime or how long I could play MP3 or Video because I never got an empty battery. With my Atom life the battery is empty afer one night standby and netsearching or about 3.5 h of usage (ca. 1h Movie, 30-45 min MP3 and the rest working with the Medical Stuff). My Charmer had after this usage usally about 75% battery left.
Another thing is when navigating in the car and playing MP3 the Atom life stopps charging after about 15min (I think it is getting to warm) even on set CPU Profile to best power which should clock down the CPU.
Any ideas? Thanks for the quick answer.

thats the reason...we viewed spb products as a power hungry program. Also, Dont use any CPU enhancer. Try to remove SPB program and use HTC plugin for your today appearance and monitor the battery life. Close all programs after using the RUnnIng PrograMs/Memory Option.Always Optimize ur atom using SK tools for RAM and performance. then tell me what happen.
OK, the SPB Software might be battery hungry. What alternatives are there for Pocket Plus and Diary. Weather isn't essential for me, so for this I don't need an alternative.

A very good alt for diary is Todayagenda. its a very simplified version without tabs.
For pocket plus wat actually do u wan from this? Tabs for shortcuts? For me i used wisbar advance 3 which give me a very good task management and to insert shortcut at the system tray.
Cheer!!
kaidi
To things I really like about Pocket Plus, the alt tab function and finger friendly buttons.
Today Agenda is ok, but you can not make exclusions what not to show
what do you think about i launcher? is it also a battery messy like pocketplus?

This would be my prefered ROM, just the Comet isn't out in Germany jet, so no ROM to download availible. If it is there I'll try it because it's in german not that an english ROM is not understanable.

I tried hard to keep up with wm6, tried hard , all possible tweaks. So finally the other day, I thought of going back to WM5 and really it is much much stable, no soft resets, no hangups.Hard to get used to the wm5 interface as compared to the glossy wm6, but performance is what I desire, and now my apps open in seconds, memory leaks are minimal, audio in BT also goes well.
I really wonder, why WM is not fully compatible with Athena. All other devices it works like a charm, why not in Athena.
I think wm6 is quicker and more stable than wm5. I reset more often in the past.
Which wm6 ROM were you running? What applications were you using? It may be one or two applications giving you the problem.
Not much apps, I like to stick with the given apps.Use Windows Live, builtin Opera, sometimes may b NetFront, I do not play games, Skype, I use. That's it.
If u compare the speed of execution of these programms with other devices running wm6 such as Universal,Hermes, Kaiser, Blue Angel, and if we have the fastest processor 624 Mhz, it shd surpass the programe execution time.
WM6 I hv observed that, initially, it works well, but as the use goes on , it tends to slow down, and even it takes a lot of time to make a phone call, after I press "Talk".
I get 150 calls a day on an average fews Texts, few emails, 24 hrs connected to GPRS or Wi Fi whichever is available.
It is a suprise that Blue Angel reacts faster than athena to similar apps, and execution is very good and fast in devices like Hermes,Kaiser, Universal....all Running WM6, either official or cooked ones.
I really fail to understand, why such a thing with Athena.
Where do you install applications?
What does the sktools performance benchmark tells you about your card and MD.
How did you format your drives?
Do you regularly clear up the cache in opera?
How large is your contact database?
Sorry this seems like a so many questions, but there must be a cause of your problem which is not related to wm6. I say that because I've far far more applications than you, all running okay. I do avoid certain applications. Examples include the latest version of ilauncher.
No problems to me with your questions.Once I had decided to us a Virgin wm6..as it is, no apps, still the problem persists. You won't believe, but I wud have changed 5 Athenas so far..but the problem with the speed persists.
My contatcs data base is quite small, opera cache is by dafault is 2 mb, so it gets cleared whatever is more than 2 MB.
If same I use in the other devices as mentioned, I do not face any problems, so far BA and Univeresal has been the best performances, Hermes and Kaiser follow...and Athena is my primary phone, I do not use any other or second phone.

Then I guess it must be a question of expectation.
I've just looked up. BA is using WM2003, isn't it? Well, that explains why it is so fast. I have a very old WM2003 device that feels like a speed demon too. That brings us back to the old debate of whether or not microsoft made the right move by going int persistent memory, which if I ask me now, I'd still prefer the old approach.
Your Universal has been soldered with additional memory, has'nt it? Do you think this is the reason why it is so fast?
If you've used so many units of Athena and found speed problem with every one of them, when nothing has been loaded yet, it probably means you're expecting WM2003 speed on a WM5/WM6 machine. I'm doubtful that going back to WM5 will solve your problem, because from my experience, WM6 does seem faster.
Not sure where this leaves you and not sure how else to help though.
Hi,
I know that and understand your motive and respect that.If u check carefully, BA can b updated to wm6 aku 7.7
Also I hv uni with 128 ram, but 64 also runs quite well.
Can u imagine I am replying to this thread from Opera Running WM 5
Crispy and fast enough..and I feel the differrence.
Anyway I will try oncemore and report back
I still havent found a WM6 device that can surpass the BA in raw speed (also with WM6)
uni gets quite close tho!

In your expert opinion, why is this so? What is special about BA that makes it fly? Does the faster speed also apply to internet surfing too?
3rd day with WM5
-Only one soft reset
-Memory lowers to 70 Mb from 81 MB,use SK tools and rever it again.
-pmsn works great and fster.Skype is also more responsive.
-I think we all here shd give it a try and also research why this is so.Really WM5 wins as far as Athena is concerned.

Hi.. I just bought an MWg ATOM life... the picture is not exactly the same, but I suppose I can use the O2 XDA Atom files to upgrade right??
PDAVIET_WM61_ROM_OS19209_PP6M
thanks for the help
Absolutely no. Atom Life is a 624 Mhz processor powered-PDA; Atom is a 416 MHz device. Atom Life is 3g Radio equipped....... Atom is only a GPRS device.
Avoid to flash Atom ROMs on Atom Life.......... you 'll risk a general freeze and make the device unusable.
On this room you can find several Atom Life WM 6.1 ROMs. Use only them for flashing your PDA.

If it is only threated sms and task manager it's not worth a dime for me. I also have a O2 xda atom and upgraded it to wm6.1 and familiar about thease two features.

Thank you for your information.
I already knew what is threaded sms is. but for me it is worthless specially when there is dosens of freeware and software that do the same as threaded sms.
My main question is : If you have a mwg atom life whithout any problem is it worth the rist to update to a buggy unofficial rom or its just threaded sms and thats all?
no offence to the cooker but even best unofficial ROMs have big problems!!
Personnally I had freezing problems with the last WM6 official ROM from O2... Now I have upgraded to the last ROM version of Medkid and so far I'm perfectly happy, I don't have freeze problems anymore!
Also the Java midlets application is way better... I also like the HTC today screen, which you obviously don't have with the official ROM...
tnx for your answer.
while i have no proplem with freezing and don't need to run java midlets there is no diffrence between them? (speed? free ram)
htc home plugin can be downloaded(.cab file is everywhere)
is it safe to overclock a Pocket PC??
i downloaded XCPUScalar 3.03 and i want to know what could happen bad. is it possible to burn the CPU or to die slowly in time??
No problems, just go alittle at a time and test it. If you start having problems then back it down to the last speed that was reliable.
This is a great overclock program, you can find more about it on XDA.
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_batterystatus_xda_neo_wm5_im_cs.htm
whatever overclocking program u decide to go with make sure it has a handy temp guage! overclocking does have its overheating drawbacks. I have my wiz doin @ 247 and running a nice 87.2 deg F. with heavy usage it can jump to 98-99.? I have ran stable faster, however I know brain cells start frying around 104! so to each his own. have fun
thx for the tip. i will try to find one with temp gauge

Second vote for plusplus. Lots of features on there as well as CPU scaling. Try it and you'll never look back.
I did try batterystatus plusplus...but there is a problem, the temp gauge and consumption gauge it's not refreshing
there is a refresh option .... u can change the update speed i think it defaults at like 30 sec. so it would look as though no refresh. hope it helps
I just flashed CR86 HD myself and tried using Homescreen++ with it. The touchflo will boot any other today plugins I select, including hs++. I tried using the hs++ task manager as well, but it stops, along with the OC I'd imagine, as soon as touchflo starts.
If I have to choose, I pick hs++.
I've been running @ 260 for over a year now, no problems yet.
I camp a lot so I go the other way. I keep my wizard consistently UNDER clocked as it drastically increases battery life.
Thats why hs++ is so good.
You can use the option to scale bettwen a downclock and a overclock.
so when its necessary your device overclock, but if its in standbye its downgrade the clock.
Doing this you hardly see a incresse of battery drain.
I use my device with batterystatus and now HS++ over then 3 years and i never have any problem.
always use with clock bettewen 143mhz and 273 mhz
hello , i also have a i-mate k-jam , and i want to overclock it . i want a program that chooses automatic the cpu speed between 140-260 for example . what program do you recomend ? i already have the 2.26 rom and wm 6.1 and it's worcking preety good . ( i don't want to change the wm , i want just the over/underclock program) thanks
using HS++ ive had my Wizard overclocked to 276mhz for over 2 years....never had a problem
Hs++ is coooooool! I tried it now and my wizard's performance is fantastic! Yeeeeeee! Im so happy!
Hi to All!
I've Installed HS++ (ver. 1.06.349 build 0349 ) and i have two problems:
1 - For use it, i must disable TouchFLO, can they work together ?? if yes, how can i do this?
2 - in OMAP menĂ¹, when i click the "get" button for overclock, the phone freeze.
EDIT:
I've installed SecondToday 0.42, and now i can load TouchFLO and HS++ together (and when i enable overclock it works!!!)
but, i always need SecondToday now? or there are other methods?
(sorry for my bad English )
AT Last: I agree with You, HS++ is Great and also SecondToday is Great
Thank You All!
299MHz
I've overclocked to 299MHz with batterystatus without any problems for at least 2 years. of course battery life is significantly shorter, but i can live with it. i use scaling when on the road to preserve power, but don't see much difference between 195MHz and underclocked to 99MHz. Tried 312MHz, but my wizard used to freeze after some time (few hours usualy)
hey
hey i recently got the qtek 9100 (3 days ago) , this is my 1st windows mobile toy i ever had. i love it , its pretty nice, i just did hard spl, which worked great i can now install whatever i want. i installed home ++ too , and in 1% cpu load it does 96 F. should i be worried? it`s overclocked at 247 mhz. should i turn it off , and just quit overclocking? truth is i love how it moves now, it was a bit lazy befroe overclocking. waitin` for a reply , thanks alot !
I got question : I have wm6.5, installed hs++ and don't know how to get to overclocking menu ? I can't find it ? where it is ? or does it don't work with wm6.5 ?
hey all.
im off to glasto soon and was gonna load up the hero with a nice long battery life rom - anyone know a good one?
also, is there somewhere with a general list of stuff to make it last longer - i guess a 1 press widget to stop all data would be ideal? anything else? an auto task killer maybe?
i will be able to charge it occasionally at a mates caravan but i'd like to do that as little as pos.
thanks for reading
I'm still using 42turkey's rooted repack of the Taiwan official GSM Hero 2.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694786
Everything works on it, and since it has Sense UI, there is a widget for Mobile data on/off.
Battery life seems great on this rom as well.
The ONLY thing that does not work well is the handwriting input method, as it is Chinese (the rest of the phone can be set to 100% all english though).
Lucky bugger!!!...
If I was you i'd flash MCR3.2. The most stable 1.5 ROM. Then underclock the standby.
I've heard people recommend Juice Defender but haven't tried it myself.

I would reccomend Cronos Droid 1.7.1 and then set the clock speed to standard 528Mhz (518Mhz) set the low freq at 246Mhz I think it is and the mess a little around in SetCPU like setting the sleep freq at max 480MHz and underclocking it when the battery runs low Last of all Cronos Droid is the best ROM performance wise, stable wise (if you can say that) and in my expiriences also battery wise and It's just the best if you aren't trying to find a ROM you can theme etc.
just buy those cheap portable batt chargers that use a single AA batt and u'll never run out of power as long as u can buy AA batts. It won't charge your phone very much but it will certainly keep the phone at a constant level.
awesome cheers all - im having a look at the ones detailed, will definatelylook into the overclocking thing.
and the aa battery thing....i think i've got one of them already for my mp3 player! never made the link that the phone could use it too. super!
cheers again, off to pack
There's a ninpo kernel on Villain10.3, which has some optional battery optimisations. I can't really gauge it against other ROMs as I haven't tested it like that, but adding autokiller and keeping the phone underclocked to the stock speed via SetCPU. I also run mine at 19MHz in sleep mode, but be aware not all heros are compatible with this, and yours might not wake up properly at 19MHz. Try it and see
If you're running Android on your HD2, then battery will last about half of what it lasted with WM. If you take a Desire device, its battery life will be at least double than a HD2 running Android (proving that it's not a fault with Android itself).
When the question is raised of why Android kills the HD2 battery so fast, the usual answer is: "Android for HD2 is still in its infancy stages".
The question is, do anyone has any clue why in this "infancy stages", battery performance is so poor ?, I mean, if you want to solve a problem, you first need to understand what causes the problem, and I don't think anyone understands why battery life is so poor, so why should we assume there will be any progress in this regard in future builds ?
I do believe that developers will probably be able to activate every feature of the HD2, simply because we understand why some features don't work now (for example: maybe we don't have an appropriate driver). Battery performance, on the other hand, seems to be a much more mystical feature, nobody understand exactly why the performance is poor, or what is needed to be done to improve it...

Is the system running in standby? Obviously that it is, so the SD card is active also in standby. Equation solved.
Form what I understand it's because cpu scaling isn't fully functional yet... That's why the bottom of the device gets so hot when in use with android. That, along with the SD card and data (witch isn't 100% optimized yet) is why.
these settings worked for me in improving battery life

now with froyostone v1 I lose in standby around 1%/hour...in WM I lose 0.5%/hour
with setcpu set correctly (+the 925mV kernel) and those power management registry tweaks I'm able to do 2 and a half days with my phone, including usage like a few calls, a bit of browsing every day, about 4h of music and downloading mails four times a day.
Thats pretty impressive for me, don't remember getting much more or even more in WinMo.
I could say that SD card is not the only reason. I used Android-based devices (Liquid and Desire) for a while and I can say that android has slight problems with power management itself.

Something here doesn't make sense. If the main (and surely if only) reason for poor battery performance is because the system works from the SD Card, then why people offer SetCPU as a solution ?, if SetCPU can solve even part of the problem, it means that Android CPU scaling abilities are not working correctly with the HD2 builds. Am I wrong ?
Do people with the Desire device also get the same boost in battery performance after using SetCPU, as the people with the HD2 device ?
I've not noticed any difference in battery consumption using Android over WM.

I can confirm that SetCpu is vital for the Acer Liquid E. My girlfriend has one and I had to flash Liquid Community Rom with SetCpu due to power consumption.

SD cards vary in class and power consumption. Get and try a class 2 card and you will see the difference. The latest cards are power hungry even in standby. I asked this question of Sandisk and I was told that the info is only available to devs!!!
It causes the problem with Winnow usage as well especially when you install any apps to the higher class of card.
Using a class two I get a day with heavy usage. Right now after 8 hours I have 60% left.
