how does the sliding even work?
i've been sliding back and forth, and i keep getting the same memory.
I know it's hacked, because it says the card is full at 600mb, when it's a 2gb card.
Thanks
I bought 4gb nonHC sd mini - after filling cca 1,5gb it erased 90% of data stored. It was 2gb card formatted as 4GB - common fraud (I didn't know about that kind of fraud at that time.)
I couldn't even restore them via sector-by-sector scanning software. I've run a test utility and it reported my card as faulty. I threw it away - I didn't want that card anymore. Non-realiable card is too much risk for me.
I bought new card (2gb) kingston so I know I won't have to worry if it will crash or something.
found some thrown in the garage...
Four years ago I chucked these hacked SD cards in the garage to hide in a pile of books. Finally dug them out, and am running a "last chance" test on them. I bough them, one from China, and another from a USA seller. I contacted the USA seller, and they send another. It was also bad. Tossed into the garage as no repair solution existed for SD media hacks. Now I see it's RDiskUtility. Will try it anr eport findings along with findings on the new mp3 players
I just bought some MP3 device/cameras from one china seller, one 2 GB unit for $5, the other, a 16GB unit for $6. The prices that I won them at tell me that they may not be fully true to their size.
My primary test is simple, I copy tracks from DVDs I have stored on my theater player's wifi drive. I check for corrupted tracks, which gives me a rough litmus test. If it's not true to size, I'll have to do some futher work.
Based on my experience with cheap Chi-cameras, picture quality of the camera is expected to be bad. Will post full data once I get them.
I bought a 16 gb card from ebay seller cointasdeals.

it was supposed to be a kingston 16gb card but i am not sure what it really is.
when i get home i will try to format my card as a lower size and hope that it works. I spoke to my local police and they said that they could not do anything.
Got to get authentic ones
I suggest buy orig memcards. A lot of rigged ones are out in the market. You may buy it for a cheap deal but you may have trouble in the days to come. Quality is important. It can save us more money.

hi guys!
Does anybody know if the 4gb sd works with the wallaby??
I've heard about someone who successfully uses the 2 gb sd.....
But somewhere else they say that the limit is 1gb...
since the price of the 4gb sd is so low...
http://cgi.ebay.it/150X-4GB-ADATA-S...temZ7605863020QQcategoryZ122613QQcmdZViewItem
and what if, the sd doesn't work with xda?xda will see it as a 1gb card, or will not recognize it at all??
thank you in advance
I just got a Transcent 4GB SD Card. It works fine in the Wallaby. Wallaby recognizes it as 4GB, just perfect. Windows Media Player also recoqnizes it well. Now we have iPod nano 4GB inside our Wallaby.
nice! i bought the 2gb Adata sd and it works fine too....maybe i will buy the 4 gb...or maybe i'll wait i while:i've heard rumors about the development of a 8gb sd!!!
i have no wallaby but universal and purchased the adata 4gb from fastmemoryman. unfortunately after two weeks of using it got damaged while it was inserted in my universal and avantgo was updating the news channels. a write error message appeared and since this moment i could no longer read the card, no reformatting, nothing. it is no longer recognized by any sd-devices like card reader, pda, digital camera. i have tried several devices, no success. so i contacted fastmemoryman and he offered me to replace the card as it has lifetime warranty. this is what i am going to do tomorrow.
my post should not be any kind of claiming against fastmemoryman or adata sd-cards as i have purchased an adata 2gb from fastmemoryman about 1,5 years ago and this card is in use day-by-day with no problems.
maybe 4gb cards are more sensitive but this is just an idea as only one bad sd-card in my whole life of using sd-cards is no good proof for such a statement
regards
peter
Recently I found out that Wallaby does not display every file written to the 4GB SD Card. Those files were written to the 4GB SD Card from a Windows XP Machine. And when accessed from the Wallaby, in the File Explorer, many of those files did not show up.
Same thing from Media Player, in the Local Content, a large portion of the MP3 files did not show up.
However, Wallaby does show correct size of the SD Card in the Settings, Memory, Storage Card.
So, please be aware of this. My 4GB SD Card is the Transcent one.
This problem does not exist when using the same SD Card in a Universal.
humm disappeared files..
it happens sometimes also with my 128 kingston sd,,don't know if it's really an sd problem..
anyway i solved the problem doing a soft reset...strange anyway....
Has anyone tried the 4gb minisd on the Wizard, yet? I'm thinking about gettin 1 but I'm don't know if the Wizard/tmo mda will support it or see the entire 4gb.
I found this while looking for a 4gb sd to buy, and now i will just stick with the 2gb i have in fear of this same thing happening after i buy one for my 8125
i knowits not a Wizard, but still...

It is a scam. Read the feedback. These are hacked 2GB and smaller cards that have been formatted to be 4GB, but that greatly shortens their shelf life, and in most cases they'll die within a few months, if they last that long.
How do you hack something so freakin small?
I'm not positive, but I think it says in the manual (8125) that it will only recognize up to 2GB ... Probably will change with later updates...just as the earlier PCz would only recognize so much RAM and HDD space until their CMOS was updated.
It may be a hardware limit. I'm from the DRAM side of things, so I'm not exactly certain how flash is addressed, but I do know that with DRAM, most computers are limited by the physical number of address drivers that are built into the chipset. Just looking at a Mini-SD, I'd guess that it's a serial device, so maybe it's just a matter of a firmware upgrade to change the bit size of the address data - or maybe it's something completely different and I have no idea what I'm talking about (it wouldn't be the first time!)

I've never heard of a 4GB miniSD, before this post. (I have seen 4GB SD cards advertised, could there be a confusion with that?)
If there are 4GB miniSD cards available, could someone post a link to them?

much more expensive than 2 2GB cards though ... I'll need to wait a little bit to get a cheaper one for my (future) Wizard (I'm waiting for the one I've just bought on ebay )
beware!!! their are fake sd cards on ebay!!! Usually the cheap ones are the fake ones!
They are also on Amazon.com for $146. They claim that they have them in stock and others have mentioned that the picture of the card has been edited--the number 4 that is. I am somewhat tempted to try it if Amazon will back me.
here is a story of a ripp-off on ebay : http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/mall/76525-4gb-minisd-card.html
4g miniSD that works
I have purchased a 4G miniSD from http://www.emartbuy.co.uk/index.php.
It works. There is a small problem with access time, i.e. it takes longer to write to and access the card than the 2G did, but apart from that there are no issues.
All I did was use a card reader and copy everything from the 2G card to the 4G card, put it in the device and away it went, like nothing had changed. Except now there is twice the storage. YAY. The card is brandless and is probably a reflashed card, but I don't care because it works for me.
I have an Imate KJAM.
I have puchased on from Moby memory,
http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=miniSD_4096mb_MOBY_002
Seems to work OK in my Xda MiniS, and IQ
Cheers

I've searched for this topic and have only found pricing and best performance topics.
There seems to be many people successfully using the 2gb card. What can I do? I've tried reformating with programs like Pocket Mechanic and using the card reader. I've tried fat16 and fat32 using different cluster sizes.
The card works perfect, no recognizing problems, reads and writes fine but it only recognizes 1gb. Am I doing something wrong?
This is REALLY frustrating, will upgrading the rom to 2.06 fix this AT ALL? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

Did you buy it off of eBay?
If you did you need to make sure that it's a "real" Sandisk 2gb (search eBay for info). If it is, you might have lost the format and that is not easy to re-format unless you get the proper software tools. You will need to search the net for a fix. On the other hand you might have an expensive "1gb" card (hope not).
Good Luck!
I also bought a Sandisk 2GB from Ebay but it works perfectly fine. You probably need to format it.
when you format it on your pc ( I recommend you do this) make sure to format with fat32 and ALWAYS give the volume a name (something like "sd card") I had the same problem on my TyTN an using a volume name resolved it. Not sure why this works but it does.
Hi, all you need to do is search for a program call HP USB Disk Storage format tool. It will help you format any mem card. if you have a realy 2gb card it will formart it.
yeah, there has been a problem with fake cards being sold on ebay..
Yes
I agree with JamesHolden
I highly recommend you dont buy Sandisk cards off ebay especially the Ultra ones, a huge amount of them are fake. Just dont want u guys to get scammed. Problem is alot of them do not work with the 8525 in some way or another.

I am reading that a lot people has problems with the 2Gb Card memory:
What will be the correct opction:
-1Gb Card memory.
-2Gb Card memory Ultra II.
-2Gb Card memory Normal SD.
Can I do anything to about the problems, format Fat32....?
Thanks
Ok, so from my research, the 8GB Micro SD is not yet widely available or even on the shelves (correct me if I wrong). But, according to the various sites I've looked at these size cards are well on there way to being released.
I know the new standard of SDHC SD card are available in 8GB and possibly above, but I have now got a Hermes, so wanted to try going higher in Micro SD. Presently I use both a 2GB and a 4GB Micro SD, depending on what I'm needing to store.
Size wise 4GB it great as options for storage are vast.
But I wanted to see it there was any further news as to the new 8GB or higher that I'd read somewhere?
Having looked on line I could only find the following:
6GB Micro SD
==========
Pre-ordering only?
1: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/SanDisk/6GB/Micro/SDHC/Card
= SanDisk 6GB Micro SDHC Card £69.99
8GB Micro SD
==========

2: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/SanDisk/8GB/Micro/SDHC/Cardhttp://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/SanDisk/6GB/Micro/SDHC/Card
= SanDisk 8GB Micro SDHC Card £99.99
Since upgrading the Hermes ROM on my phone to WM6 which was purely to allow it to use the 4GB Micro SD I had bought (I swear by SanDisk as have NEVER had a problem with them in over 5 years of assorted SD cards)
Am going to keep looking over the next few weeks and would be interested in any feedback if any others have found any news about higher capacity versions.
I have no idea if WM6 will be able to read higher than 4GB but my guess would be a resounding YES! on the grounds of what I have a feeling is WM6 full? SDHC support. whereas WM5 on the Orange version of the Hermes 'SPV M3100' had only partial support and can only recognize 2GB sized Cards.

PS: if this post is in the wrong place or out of date can a mod sort it out and remove or move it. Many thanks. Just wanted to share my interest and findings on these Micro beasties thats all.
You accidentally posted the 6GB page, if you change the "6" to "8" in the URL you'll get what you meant for the second post.
Wow thanks for those links can't wait to get my hands on 8GB of freakin memory! I'm very impressed with MicroSDHC and am so glad the Hermes can take the always (albeit gradual) increasing card capacities, without new hardware needed.
Take that, iPhone! (don't worry, i love you too)
I found it very difficult to get a 4gig microSD card in the US. I keep seeing these cards in the UK but they don't ship here. Does anyone have links to any companies for even a pre-order.

The six (6) GB link was intentional bud. I have researched "above and beyond" the 4GB size. Happened to find the 6GB link on same site so added it as I didn't know if like myself others were also unaware of this specification.
Cheers anyway.
You missed his point, your 8gig link is incorrect, it links to the 6gig ad.
Wow, 8G! Wish I had known that before splashing out on an 8G Zen MP3 player.
Thanks for the spot!
Are you sure the hermes does support the micro sdhd?
I wrote yesterday to htc to ask what is the max size of microsd that hermer support, and the follow is the answer:

Good morning
The max size card your device supports is 2GB. It will not support HC (High Capacity) memory cards. Please see our recommended product below:

Teorically an microsd reader could be support the HD format through a firmware update...

When a representative from Orange looked into this on my behalf, he also was told me that HTC was only recommending that the Hermes be used with 2GB Micro SD cards, as that was the limit they (HTC) would guarantee.
When I first tested cards out prior to a firmware update to WM6, the above was indeed true.
However, my Hermes now runs WM6 and uses a 4GB SDHC Micro SD Card on a daily basis without ever having a problem.
I have no idea if this will be true of higher spec cards such as the 6GB or the 8GB or even anything higher, but I feel confident that it will. But that is just my opinion as until tried and tested its down to guesswork whether or not other card sizes will be recognized.
PS: you asked what is the difference between micro SDHD and micro SDHC?
The answer is that I have NEVER heard of Micro SDHD. To me that is a High Definition tag and not one that refers to any card type.
I've only ever known SDHC.
Even Google comes back with: "Did you mean SDHC" Maybe others know of this type of card?

You could walk into a verizon store anytime and pick up a card, if you wanted. Other people have been able to order 4gb cards-- you could, also. READ!!!
Transcend 4GB SD with Exec loses data randomly --please help.
Hello there,
I read you people are using 4GB SD without any problems, you might solve my problem.
I am using one on my Exec with WM6,(ROM 2.02.02,Radio 1.15, Protocol 42.51.P8, no ext rom) and facing a weird problem. The card loses the data for no apparent reason. The folder viz. My document has just been emptied and I lost my all ebooks--150 MB.
The file explorer shows the card contains 776 Mb data while the 'Resco explorer' shows 1007 Mb,in setting-memory-storage card it shows 1007 Mb,but it actually has only 776 Mb data, so I have lost 150 Mb data permanently and 300 Mb storage space on card!
This is the THIRD time it has happened and on previous occasions I had the card replaced.I am fed up with this problem,is it the card itself or the Exec or the WM6 or the ROM which is causing this problem?
Is there any way to retrieve the data and the memory lost from the card, for I think it is there and it just hidden somewhere...I hope.
I am not a techie,(medical doctor--using Exec more as a PDA than a communicator)hence the lengthy description ,thanks in advance, sorry for the intrusion.
bye.
sorry for the hastles your having
I wish I could help you further but apart from what I have read relating to the Hermes I can't.
I would hazard a guess and say that it sounds more like the Operating System / ROM which perhaps is not handling the card properly.
Best if you put up a new post on the main board and ask for help.
I hope you get it sorted as I know from my own problems similar to your missing card data how really annoying this problem is. I do know that I have had two SD card made by transcend. I used them for 6 months without a hitch. I put movies and files on them both for University and work use and used them in my previous phone which was an English version of the Prophet (Orange SPV M600)
Point is that in my own experience, Transcend are indeed a reliable brand or storage card. So it doesn't sound like a card problem in my opinion. Perhaps you may new to look at updating the ROM? I have no knowledge of your phone model "Exec" so can't help. But as I said best if you ask for help on the board. Maybe on various boards if you've had no luck already. Someone may have previously owned an Exec and might be able to shed some light on this problem.
Kalya-- You need to post your problem on the Universal forums, not the Hermes. There, hopefully, you will get the help you need. Different models react differently to various things. May you find your solutions...

From what I've been told, Sandisk made a deal with Verizon so they are the only approved suppliers in the US for one year. You can buy the 4GB miro SDHC card from them or any Verizon distributor (even Circuit City). However, they are more expensive than Amazon...

Well, well, well...This would be an early christmas for me if it works. Have been forced to constantly streamline my music collection and dare I say with the new Xperia specs showing just 32GB internal storage and no micro SD card support, I sincerely hope Sony, that if it is true, it is a one off experiment. The average consumer hungers for more storage each time, fact.
Even the newer phones came out these few months only supports 32GB micro SD.
And by the way, I thought all Xperia phones are using micro SD?

Guys I' taking the plunge. If you see the youtube clip from the 1st post, all we need is to format it (probably with a SG SII) which should change the format to fat32 readable by our devices. If it should come to the worst I'll flog it on the SG II xda site or ebay.
Update 14/11/11 64GB micro SDXC Card works flawlessly with X10. Simply insert new card, phone will not recognise the format and will give message that card is damaged. Simply format (which is erase micro sd option on X10) and ENJOY!

It's not about the reformat. It's lower than that.
When id comes to SDcard readers, micro or normal, there are basically two types:
Type 1:
Hardware/firmware-driven, that uses it's own hardware to manage the basic functions of the SD-card and presents is as an UMS device (USB Mass Storage)
The benefit from those readers are less utilisation of the main CPU followed by higher throughput.
The backside is the limited support of what standards it can use.
Type 2:
Software/"dumb" reader. It'll just provide a "physial" connection to the underlying USB-system, and presents it "as is": a SD-card flash memory.
In this "dumb" mode, the Operating system must provide all the routines in order to communicate properly with the attached SD-card.
The benefit with those are full range compatibility with future standards, but it depends on software, drivers and the main CPU, which might result in slightly lower speeds and "sluggishness" as the IO-operations increases.
However, if the OS and the SDHC/SDXC drivers in question is poorly optimised, the hit on the CPU can be drastically high whenever a read/write occurs.
So, which one is prefered then?
It's up to the manufacturers of the hardware and the operating system.
In our case here, Android can use both UMS devices, as well as generic/default SDHC and SDXC flash cards.
In my opinion, the type 2, "dumb" readers, are the "best" ones.
The only limitations of what cards these readers can use, is only limited by the operating system and the kernel modules/drivers provided.
And the "load" on the CPU as generally so small it's often neglectable, provided the drivers and OS is well optimised.
Which type the X10 smartphone uses I cannot tell.
I simply don't know, but it sounds promising, as there haven't been any "corrupted data" reports from the few who are using 64GiB cards...
... yet!
If the X10 smartphone does utilise the type 1 reader, the firmware/hardware based one, it might "kick back", as data stored beyond the 32 GiB limit of the readers limitation, might just "disappear into the void", never reporting any errors.
Users might notice this first when they try to access the previous stored files and finds out the content returned are just a stream of nulls. (null = digital void, nothing, nada, true zero, blank)
If and When this happens, only time can tell.
Someone has to try fill the card "to the brim", and copy back the content verifying everything is correct and proper.
Not just the filenames and filesizes, but also the content itself. (Checksum methods should suffice)
Just to +1 the above post. When the manufacturer states a maximum card size its not what the phone can mount but what it can reliably use. There's a good chance that you'll have corruption if you continue to use it.
Anyone got any news on this?
Does it truly work with all 64 Gibibytes, or is only half of it useful as I suspect?
got ne for myself! Sandisk Class 6 64gb !
Have something like 40gb full. Works well!
Awesome!

can u post some benchmarks and screenshots plz and do you feel any kind of slowness or lag at all?
Nice this is very nice.
Maybe u should go to some IT shop and try it out.
I guess the X10 din show its support with 64G is coz at dat time, 64G micro-SDHC havnt come out yet.

Wish i could -.- but somehow the Phone (or what ever, never took it out!) Corrupted the MicroSD Card!
Then Phone Plays dead with a Corrupted MicroSD Card. Wont start up !
put the Card into SD Card and reade on my computer and that one says corrupted format. Need to reformat -.- But then "Computer cant Format that card" -.-
AND the Card gets ****ing HOT! nearly burnt myself! more than 50°C for sure! Also only shows 30MB space! But i had over 40gb data on it! so its a real one!
Guess i'll got an defective Card -.-
But about the Read/write values. had something like 6-7mb write and 30mb read.
