WM6 Loose Warranty? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi, I have just bought myself the MDA Vario II obviously on T-Mobile, I have a years warranty with it, Is there anyway to make a full backup of my Vario with WM5 on incase i ever need to take the phone back to T-Mobile and because I have put WM6 on it voids my warranty? I am from the UK and there is currently no WM6 ROM on the t-mobile UK site.

WM5
There are full WM5 ROMs from T-Mobile Vario II users in the wiki on this site you can download and re-flash you WM6 device mate.

so say i tried installing WM6 and it messed up, leaving me with no OS on the phone, i could then just install the WM5 ROM?from t-mobile?

I had a loose warranty, so I stapled it to a stack of paper

there is really no need for you to try being funny. i asked a serious question, i wanted a serious answer.

Lighten up mate; legitimate play on your words. You said "Loose Warranty" when you meant "Lose Warranty".
Anyroad you can go back to a version of WM5 should you feel the need. You cannot backup and restore your rom in the way that you are implying.
My strong advice to you is to read as much as possible on here on both Upgrading and Downgrading. When you are ABSOLUTELY sure you know what you are doing then proceed. If you don't do this then you will probably permanently damage your phone.
There are some essential things you must do first to ensure safe upgrading.
A good starting place to gain this knowledge is the wiki.
Good luck.

Upgrade MDAII to XDAII

I bought some days ago the MDAII for 550€ without SIMLook.
For me the MDA Software is very boring and am missing the features of the XDAII Software.
So my question is...
is it possible to (Software-)Upgrade a MDAII to a XDAII with the Tools wich I can find at this page?
Sorry, I'm a newbie...
and many thnx for the responses!
Quick answer 'Yes'
Slightly longer answer, take the Update from the O2 website, use ER2003 Edit to change the country ID to T-Mobile, then flash away.
I had Dutch T-Mobile...then O2... now custom O2 (removed all O2 custom stuff and got rid of MMS as I dont use it etc etc).
While it is technically possible... if you are a newbie and don't have much experience, I can just recommend: DON'T DO IT... these hacking programs can also lead to complete loss of a working device!

Hi,
I'm a Newbie too, but why should he change the country ID to T-Mobile, if he has a Sim UNlocked handy it should work anyway ... or is it not that way ???
Because if he fails with the procedure and ends up with an unworkable device he will have to go to his vendor who might ask some questions and maybe even reject doing anything about it... is it really worth is?
OK that's the reason, it makes sense ...
thank you

I also have the MDA II, with current 1.60.36 ROM. I liked the 1.60 better.
I'm not sure why you would think O2s ROM is so much more exciting I'm not sure. Besides a different today screen I doubt there is that much difference, except for stability. In fact I was very close to upgrading to O2 1.60.50 myself, but decided to wait for T-Mobile to come out with their next upgrade, which I would think should be soon, because it has been awhile since their last poorly put together upgrade.
As long as you are willing to take the risk of a voided warranty, go for it.
The place to get the upgrade, from t_mobile to O2 is right in this forum index. Look for User-MDKIA. This fellow that put this together I believe knows what he is doing and because of the way he has developed the upgrade I do not believe you need to be concerned about the Country ID error.
Good luck.http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7278&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25

Because in my case I had to, gave Country ID error when I tried to put the O2 ROM on my T-Mobile unit.
Dont know why people worry about doing it, as long as you follow instructions its dead simple... unless you are editing the ROM (ie removing bits) you cant really go wrong! Even if you do edit the ROM you still cant really go wrong if you read whats on this site!
Even if you **** up completely as long as you can get to the bootloader you can always flash it back to how it was...
its not rocket science...
I wantet to flash the O2 ROM to the MDAII because I have a O2 SIM Card. Some Options like the Homezone Statusviewer or the O2 Active profiles are very useful.
But... If it's so easy as described... It should be no problem to reconvert a MDAII with XDAII ROM back to MDAII ROM (for example if I want to sell it) or not?
thnx for all these useful informations.
;-)
Hey m8!
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8205
Itsme made a tutorial for upgrading roms.
I don't know your problem... it's really easy as hell.
Just use Er2003edit, it takes care for everything!!!
Here you can edit the header information with a drop down menu.
If you currently have a MDA2 simply change the header info in the three ROM-files from O2 to TMOBILE, then run the upgrade.
You cannot do something wrong, the upgrade tool will not start at all if not everything is right, and even then still the bootloader is available.
I haven't heared so far of a trashed XDA2 device ;-)
By the way... think of making your own Ext-rom ;-)

I really was thinking about making this, but I have too less information actually, may be you can help me find some mor infos about that ... would be very interesting ...
ciao
Investigate the threads refering to Er2003edit, I think they explain pretty good what it is all about.
In the end it is simple drag 'n drop with programs you like to have after hardreset (or don't have). When finished update the config.txt file which handles the install process, note not to use programmes which execute a softreset after install.
Look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7196&highlight=
here is a lot optimized stuff for the ext-rom.

Agree. I think setting the timer on my VCR is more complex!
Even if it all goes completely wrong you should still have access to the bootloader... so you can just flash it again...
settings o2 rom (germany)
Hi,
I'm using a MDA II (T-Mobile) and a O2 card.
I'm interessted in umgrading to a O2 rom but I'm afraid of loosing warranty. I'm not afraid that something should be wrong by flashing the o2-rom to my xda II but I have 2 years warranty left and in that time some other things may happend to my system that I must use the warranty.
So I need the O2 settings of the O2 rom to use MMS, WAP, GPRS,... Which file of the O2 rom have stored these settings?
There are a lot of files in that rom, what are these all for?
I coppied allready the homezone tool which works fine on my XDA II (don't start automatically - coppied to autostart but don't start , only manual start works - somone a sollutions for that?).
Does anyone know for what all the programs in my startfolder are for? There are a lot of entried which will fast system... But I don't want to find it out by trieing....
Does anyone knows a good simulation for the XDA II to test software. I dont' want to put all on my life system and delete again. I thing the regestry will grows bigger and bigger....

Upgrading For Begginers: Guide?

Sorry if this i inapropriate or something, Just have some questions:
1. Is it possible for someone knowledgebale unlike myself to write a simple how to, step by step on the generic process of upgrading the hermes ROM. Maybe it can be a sticky then, i know there is lots of info but i feel that maybe it's not easy to decifer it all.
2. Does upgrading you ROM void the warnty, be it if you bought a tytn direct or your on an Orange contract etc.
3. Can the m3100 be upgraded without sim unlocking?
4. Which in the opinion of the mass's, is the best ROM choice currently?
thanks all.

Instructions are in the wiki, the process is quite simple, download exe file and double click on it, connect your PDA using usb cable, click "next" 3 or 4 times and that's it.
If you get an error during the process, do not disconnect the device and follow detailed instructions in the wiki:

Yes, it voids the warranty if you flash a ROM which is not an "official" upgrade from your vendor for your device.
That is... for example if you have a TyTN and upgrade to Imate ROM, it voids your warranty, but it does not void it if you have a JasJam.

yes. Added this as a FAQ.
thanks a lot for your help, very much appreciated, does anyone have any good recomendations - and reasons - please for replacing the orange ROM, i have:
ROM: 1.23.61.4 7/13/06
Radio: 1.06.00.00
and I'm not bothered which branded ROM i have, i just want the least bugs, best comm speed/quality and most functionailty.
thanks a lot all, im sure other m3100 users will be as happy as me!
Azz
About the voiding warrenty thing..... I managed to get the guy in the Orange store who signed me up to a contract and sold me the phone, to say that it would NOT void the warrenty if I updated the ROM to any other one, no matter who provided it (I even asked about I-mate, or HTC). I also happened to have the MP3 Voice recorder on my Eten M500 going at the time.....
I've made a Upgrading FAQs section on the wiki:

Hermes Downgrading help please

My T mobile branded Vario II fell off my lap yesterday (in its case) Theres not a scratch on it and its only 4months old. Later on i had loads of missed calls and then realised it wont ring or vibrate or play mp3's.
Im currently running one of HTC's Roms, SPL-1.09 is my bootloader and im not sure how to reflash with the original T-mobile rom before i head back to the shop to see about a replacement
I keep getting a invalid vendor id, and from reading posts on the forums i know i need to do something with the cid so i can flash back down to the original rom.But im getting confused between a super cid and a cid? as what ive found below just mentions cid and not super cid.
Is this the file i need? HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a ? i just run the .bat file then install the orginal t mobile rom as normal?
What im basically asking is the above right to ahead with? as i just need some reassurance as if i cant blag one under warranty then ill have to use my insurance which as its my second claim in 6 months has a excess of £60
Yes i have looked on the forums for hours but cant see any info.
Thanks in advance should anyone help
EDIT well ive run the unlocker and supercid'd it but it still wont let me flash with the original t mobile rom?
ERROR:260 Update Error
im getting the above error?
Is all I will say is click on the mrvanx guide in my signature.

thanks guys i will try the above. if not i think ill "loose" the phone
Hi Gavin01,
Good luck with the downgrade - I'd be interested to know how it goes. I also have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, and so far I've put HardSPL 7 and Radio ROM 1.41 onto it. I'm just trying to decide which WM6 ROM I want to try out
Anyway, I have at the back of my mind that I don't really know how to downgrade it in the case of a warranty claim. The MrVanx guide to downgrading WM5 looks ok, but I'd love to know how to put the radio rom back (I guess this would just be the reverse of the upgrade), but then finally taking taking HardSPL off. In fact I'd vote for a guide on it - would write it myself but I have to confess I'm rather a newbie to the world of HTC upgrades....
Cheers,
sparky
I have the same problem
I´d like to downgrade to original softbank settings. But they only accept warranty issues if you have the original cid? , right?
So putting the old rom back on is not my problem, "un-super-cid" it is.
I need help please too
Hello,
please excuse, but i have a question and i will not open a new threat.
I use tytn. I have installed the Radio Version 1.40 and the Black 3.01 Rom. I have used HardSPL and when i go into the bootloader i have Herm200 IPL 1.04 and Herm200 SPL 2.10 OliPro. My question is: it is not possible to go back to wm5 with the installer RUU Hermes 1.18....-Qtek_Ger_Ship. Because in this installer is a Radio Rom. When i will use it, i lost my Radio and i have No GSM. The only way to go back is with MrVanx Hermes downgrade guide. Is this correctness ??
( This is what i think after using the help-function and the wiki )
When this is right, so Please Please, can a specialist please build a litte .exe-File so that i can make a downgrade to my mw5? Sorry, i am not idle, i am not able to to this. And please excuse my english. I will say say thank you very very much for your helping. With the best regards from Berlin say Christian

Upgrading MDA Vario II with HTC Rom - open questions

Hi comm!
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, Rom Version: 1.21.
Can i upgrade my PPC with the released WM6 update of HTC without any problems, although i have a differently branded TyTN? Will all functions work (telephone, internet)? And can i downgrade my WM6 to WM5 easily or can I reactive my current system status with a backup (SK Tools)? Last but not least, what will the warranty say?
Thanks for your efforts.
PS: sorry for all these maybe stupid questions...but i´m just a beginner =)
upgrading to WM 6 worked for me as did unlocking ;-)
If you do not use an official T-mobile ROM update forget any warranty, unless you're able to downgrade to the original one
I have an original Rom from T-Mobile. Do you know what happens with the warranty of T-Mobile when you unlock the CID? Does the CID still will be unlocked if you install another Rom? Can you lock it again?
It won´t be possible unless you downgrade to your old ROM again. I am not sure if that´s possible, though.
I went along the way described at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php...ask=view&id=65&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=4
If you follow the directions including the upgrade to wm6 from Custel, you can afterwards install the German WM6 version from HTC. It won´t work directly. The CID will stay locked and the HTC cannot be installed until you installed the CUSTEL version.
I think the T-Mobile contract does not allow to modify the system in this way.
How to
Using the search function gave me thread as the first result.(Couldnt find any how to guides)
So.. What do i need to do to upgrade my ROM? i have a fresh MDA vario II just got repaired from the shop.(Nothing to do with bricking if you;re wondering)
Can some one please give me a simple step by step guide on how to upgrade.
Thanks a bunch
HELP
i have 8525, and i installed WM6, with different applications and i cant get the voice dial to work and cant find any applications or roms, does anyone know how i can get it to work?

Orange SPV M3100 rom upgrade to WM6/6.1

my cousin has 2 orange spv m3100 and was thinking about upgrading them to windows mobile 6 or 6.1 depending on rom's available
is this easily done?
and would it be best to unlock the phone so it can go on all networks before the rom update or after it?
all advice would be great thank you
Upgrading your device's rom is quite easy after youve done it once, just check the wiki page, upgrading for beginners this should tell you all you need to know about flashing a rom for the first time.
Have fun
cheers scotty
we're guna havea play about with both of them next tuesday/wednesday when we're both free
maybe unlock teh sim so it goes any network aswell
another quick question
do you know if the latest rom on there for the orange spv m3100 is a wm6 build?
no there wasnt a wm6 released for the spv m3100 the actual newest orange rom is a update on wm5 it is in my uploaded file i think if you want to have a look, i used a cooked rom after hard-spl and super cid everything works fine and i have flashed quite a few roms.
Have fun
thanks
do you know of any wm6 roms for the spv?
or if i got the phone unlocked and used a vodafone sim in it would i be able to flash vodafone roms or would i still have to use the orange rom?
James, going to your original question, I've recently done this myself, and over the past week, i've flashed my phone numerous times, so its very easily done.
Just read the guides, and make sure your 100% confident that you've understood it, I did and i'm 100% happy with the outcome!
Thanks Greeee
did you flash a wm6 or a wm5?
cause it comes with a wm5, but wanna updte to a wm6
Tbh, I should've explained something...
My phone is the HTC Hermes 200, not the SPV M3100, although they are the same phone, mines not branded by any network.
It was shipped to me (Bought secondhand) as WM6.1, so all I did last week was updated the HardSPL and since tried a few roms.
I didn't have to use SuperCID, to unlock mine, as it was unlocked, but I do wish you well buddy, and word of recommendation, try not to use branded software on phones, as they bog them down with too much bloatware, stick with what you like.
If need be, I'll help where I can, but tbh, your in safer hands with everyone in here, as all I did was read the guides, and stuck to what was being advised.
The people here are good, which makes it so much easier to use!
cheers Greeee
well im thinking of getting it unlocked before i do anything to it anyway, when using roms without a specified carrier does that mean i can use any rom or is it best to stick with the operator specified?
if you super cid you device you can use any rom that has been cooked or from any carrier as it is basically a unlock for that a bit like a sim unlock. most people use the cooked roms by the chefs in the wm6 part of the forum where there are wm6/6.1 and 6/5 roms that have been cooked and have different features so you will probably have to do a bit of flashing and some looking around before you find a rom that is best suited to you.
If you have ne more questions just ask, Have fun
cheers again scotty
super cid, that easy to do?
just like flashing?
and could i sitll use any carrier rom even if i got someone at a shop to unlock my phone to any carrier?
super cid an sim unlocking is different to flashing i think i dont really remember
wiki on sim an cid unlock here
and a thread here
hope this helps and saves u paying to have it unlocked good luck
yer unlocking and super cid are dif to flashing
are super cid and unlocking the same you know?
cheers for the links, i'll try saving some cash now
no problem and they both come in the same program you just choose which one you want to do both.
Good luck
whats teh splbootloader thing what i been reading about?
it says you need to install that or something :s
do you mean hard-spl?
yer thats what i mean
you will need to flash version 7 2.10 after the sim and cid unlock this prevents your device from bricking if a flash goes wrong
cheers
so sim/cid unlock
then flash hard spl 7 2.10
then flash my rom?
