Author Thread---http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html.
XDA-Developers thread to discuss.
Thought of attaching CAB but I would like divert traffic to authors site where you can donate.
I have tested this on wing. Its is very light weight and does what it is supposed to. you can feel that you are working on windows PC.
Strongly recommended for rom cookers in their ROMs .

What is WkTASK?
WkTASK shares features of both Task Manager and Program Launcher for Windows Mobile. You can switch all running programs smoothly like desktop Windows, and launch applications easily. Not only stylus operation but also key operation is available. Although the look & feel closely matches the theme color and make the 3D gradation, its CPU and memory usage are low.
Features
Task-list
Using the upper bar, you can watch, switch, close and force termination running programs.
To exclude a task from the list, tap&hold it and select 'Hide'.
X button
Using the X button, you can use some actions as follows:
Tap: really close
Tap&Hold: show context menu
Drag: some gestures (To minimize, drag toward down. To show Today, drag toward left.)
Program Launcher
Using key or tap, You can launch some applications, functions and contacts(phone call or e-mail).
Key operation
To shift the Key operation mode, double-execute WkTask.exe or WkTaskCmd.exe(recommended because of smaller size). Some start options are available too.
Brightness/Volume controller
You can control them in real time with key or tap.
Other functions rotation, suspend, reboot, network connection, etc.
Preferences
To customize, it has a great deal of parameters. Enjoy your self!
FAQ
Q. I want to move and resize a Task-list.
A. To move and resize it, tap&drag the edge or adjust values in Preference->General1->Offsets.
Q. I cannot see any directories except "My Documents" to configure the skins and launcher.
A. It is a bad culture of Window Mobile and Pocket PC. To see all directories, install FileDialogChanger and gsgetfile for international(direct link).
Q. I would like to translate WkTASK to my native language. / The translation is a bit off.
A. Thank you for your help. I will create a MUI file from your mapping table and upload to this site. Please send me the table which format is as follows:

looks nice, let me try this one
Hey,
Great software. Two things though. First, when activated by vertical drag the launcher shows but hides immediately after lifting the stylus to tap an application. Second, is there a way to adjust the hight of the task bar? It leaves a few pixels from the top and bottom and when I click the start menu white shadow shows behind the bar.
Thanks,
dEM
Anyone..?
i've been using WkTask for about a week.
If i use the launcher it stays ther so i can tap as many boxes as i want. Its not a feature i use though so have not loaded any apps into it.
dont think you can resize the task bar, but that said i have not noticed any white lines. (apart fromthe battary life indicator cross the top)

Stupid me! Thanx!
In my Taskbar I have ActiveSync listed and one other executable which I would like to hide because if they are active all the time, there isn't much point in having them displayed (when I terminate both of them, they come straight back).
What is the path to disable AS from the taskmanager as it does not show up when I look for it from within WkTask?
Also, I presume the executable is TF3D as when I terminate that, TF3D closes and restarts. Anyone know how to hide that executable if it TF3D?

Hold your stylus on the app you want to hide and after a second a menu pops up where you can choose to always hide it. There is an option in the preferences 1st page to 'always show' so that must be switched off as well.
The TF3D app is named 'Start', repeat the above for it too.
Holding the stylus on the close button also beings up a menu which includes the option of hiding.
Excellent, thanks, worked a treat.

Just so I'm clear, what kind of help are you asking for at this stage? I can help test the product but I haven't done any mobile development.
If you haven't done developement just Keep trying it and report bugs! If you have special wishes or ideas for the GUI you are welcome
Im just programming the Launcher Part
All I'm after is an app that uses motion for unlocking. In the purest form it can be like the iPhone unlocker where there's a bar to slide but, unlike S2SU, the bar should be positionable and it shouldn't write over anything else on the screen. That means if you have something like SpB Mobile Shell, when your phone is locked it shows the Now screen. I would want to see the Now screen still. Here's a mockup:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
More advanced features can be things like custom-defined motions for unlocking including no visual hints which in effect will function like a password. As for functionality outside of unlocking...it doesn't really interest me because so many other applications already do that. Is there something you need tested now? When I ran it, it didn't seem like it was at that stage yet.

IMHO, "Invisible Lock Screen" and "Gesture to Unlock" are 2 distinct challenges. I agree it would be cool to combine the 2. But you may need to prioritize those 2 efforts.
My personal opinion would be to implement a small, very efficient gesture recognition module that generates an event based on the a successful gesture match. It would be like "Gesture 2 Action". Then others like A_C could perhaps integrate or make it an option for S2U2. With G2A, then again, it could be used to do anything - launch an app, set an alarm, disable bluetooth, etc...
The invisible lock screen would be nice also, but I think it presents entirely different challenges.
I will reupload Preview B in some minutes, there you will be able to Launch programs by Gestures
You can configurate it in a text file
Scilor, aren't there already apps that launch programs via gesture? Touch Commander is one. I'm sure there are more. What are your development priorities?

I guess what I'm after is what's not available now. To start, a very simple low-impact unlock slider that doesn't override the visible screen, and to finish a custom-motion unlocker with option to hide the visible hint i.e. slider track.

That's true. If the primary purpose of this new app will be to one-up Touch Commander with complex gestures, I guess that would be something new.
I just Uploaded the new Version!
now you can launch programs with it (configuratible in the gestures.cfg)
interesting app, works on my touch. Thanks!
I just uploaded a new Version Alpha 0.0.1
I little improved the gesture recognition and made it a littel bit Skinnable
Iam Primary working on a Launcher, because i dont' know how to block buttons, if iam able to do this, i will implent the Locking function
interesting project but in future it should be possible to make gestures in any app!

It really looks like a nice and fresh application.
I am further pleased to see a fellow Turk in the scene
I have installed the program and it looks very good on my device. The problem i found is that when starting the program the first time i can add one city and then it goes to the program screen. When i want to add more cities it opens the adding windows, but there is no keyboard accessible to type in the city name. How should i do that?

GreenButton
GreenButton is an Open Source Windows Mobile 5.0+ program. It runs in the background as a very tiny executable (1kB) that waits for the Green Button (otherwise known as the "Talk" button) to be pressed. At that time, the specified program will be executed. I wrote this with iDialer in mind, and it works perfectly for those who want to use iDialer as their default dialer.

supbro -- on a tangential note: could you tell us which ROM you run, which SIP you use, whether ot not you use A_C's s2U2, PCMkeyboard?, etc? I have been looking for "best configurations", beyond just best-of-breed apps. Thanks very much for all your great work. I am looking forward to understanding your business and how it will serve smartphone users.

Hi,
I installed it on my Tilt and it doesn't work (ie - I press the green button but nothing comes up, not even the standard dialer).
I also looked for a config utility, coulnd't find one (either in Start-Settings nor in Start-Programs).
I performed an SR after installation.
I was expecting some sort of possibility to link between the green button and my preferred app (O3TOUCH).
Thanks.
How do I change the program?
GreenButton is activated upon startup by a shortcut placed in "\Windows\Startup". Edit that shortcut (easiest to do over ActiveSync) and add your program as an argument (this example will execute Pocket IE upon Green Button press):
44#"\Program Files\GreenButton\GreenButton.exe" \Windows\iexplore.exe

There is no config utility, you must edit the registry manually. The registry settings are on my web site. GreenButton was designed for iDialer, so if you don't have iDialer installed, that would explain why no programs start when you push the green button.
If you want to run a different program, you can probably just change HKCU/Software/Supware.net/GreenButton/Run in the registry to the file name of your dialer (maybe \Program Files\O3\O3Touch.exe ?)
Also, after changing registry settings, be sure to soft-reset your device.

I'm not able to sync the PDA to my work computer, so rather than wait till evening, I used Resco Registry Editor and changed what seemed to me the appropriate reg keys.
So far it seems to be working (ie pressing the green button brings up O3Touch).
But I noticed that there seemed to be some hangs-ups, so I'll uninstall and reinstall then try to edit the shortcut via AS.
Awesome,. thanks so much for this apps,.
This app doesn't sync calendar updates but rather the whole calendar, right?
Great Program..
I loved I-Dialer, but the lack of an option to launch it using the talk button made me think twice about keeping it... With this addition my wishes are granted, a full screen dialer with fast contacts to match.. Excellent apps!!
The only things I would comment on would be the graphics of the dialer look look less than VGA quality (bottom row icons)... Hopefully folks will begin to skin this program like S2U2 and we will have the perfect replacement to the stock dialer.
I would recommend you work with Dman666 as he is working on a full Iphone theme for the Diamond/TP crowd.. This dialer would compliment both of your efforts perfectly as there seemed to be an issue with launching the phone from the manilla code (bottom home icons) he is tweaking for the theme.

Editing the shortcut will have the same effect as updating the "Run" entry in the registry. There's no need to reinstall or edit the shortcut if you've updated the registry.
Um, AEButtonPlus does this . . . for every button on your phone . . . been using it for iDialer from day one.

ZLaunchy - version 0.2
This is still an early beta, so some things might not work
ZLaunchy was written mainly for those who like the way Windows Mobile dialer allows searching for contacts in a T9-like way - so that finding Adam means choosing 2326 in the phone application. ZLaunchy uses the same idea to run programs on your device. What it does is gives you a dialer keypad and when you type in a series of digits, it searches for all programs that match - for example to start Internet Explorer, start typing 4683 - Internet Explorer and Internet Sharing should show up in the result list.
Application performs a search using all items in the Start Menu. It also skips showing application icons, which causes it to work faster than usual application launchers. This makes ZLaunchy a perfect candidate for an application that's bound to a hardware key (using system settings) and have it always handy when you want to find an application quickly.
In order to search for a particular text as beginning of words, type the specified digits - for example 4683 to find Internet explorer. In order to search for specified letter(s) not only at beginning of words, add "1" at the end - for example 4681 will find PowerPoint Mobile.

Very cool... I don't think I'll need it but I like the idea. Nice work.
thanks for the app anyway, BUT...
you should have mentioned that this app was for VGA only...
you could have saved an install and an uninstall for me dude!

This shouldn't be VGA only. That's why it's still 0.1 - not quite final yet.
EDIT: Fixed - some screw-up in the CAB creation. Now there's a separate QVGA/VGA installer that works fine on both.
@dredd - care to retry?
Great concept seriously !
Oh my god that program is just AWESOME.
That's the thing i missed all the time on my WiMo-phone. On my computer, i'm only starting programs with launchy, it's much more faster than browsing a start-menu or something like that.
If you need help, ask me. I'm quite experienced with photoshop and also can help you with translations (german).
A version with a full QWERTY-keyboard (that covers 3/4 of the screen) would be great too.
Great idea! Wonder if I can use it like filemanager too? I'm always searching for a cab on my storage card. This is brilliant!..
I'll assign it to a button for quick launch.
Thanks for sharing..
Works great! Smooth, fast , Vibration feedback, finger scrolling! Very smart!
Thankyou very cool app anyway to turn off haptic feedback? If not could you implement for future release
Great stuff!
How about options to search for other file type by name? Photos, docs, etc? \
Might make it even more powerful.
As I sad, this is great!
wow it's really fast. thanks. maybe an option to remove the vibration in the next release?
interesting concept! going to try right now...

As for help, if you want to make a better theme (I suck at graphics), PM me. We can work it out. As for translations, there are only 2 texts for now, but when I add in the configuration panel, then I would use your help.

Yeah, that's part of the TODO list. Engine is quite generic, so adding in My Documents or custom folder (i.e. *.cab in \Storage Card\installs) is mainly configuration issue. That's for v0.2 or a bit later.

Yes, one of the first things that needs to get done - a configuration panel.

Then you should install VGA one - although the page now clearly states it.
Very nice and useful app for me. Thank you very much!
Two quick concepts (VGA, without keyboard), one with icons and one without. The blue color indicates that this is the selected item.
The three results are chosen at random, they are only placeholders to see what it will look like
If you need these resources for a future release, call me.
gotta try this!! I've been looking for this functionality for so long!!!! thanks amigo!!!!
doesn't work on my i-mate ultimate 8150!yellow and white screen
i stumbled across an old app called Miniflow

its basicly an alt tab program, its like the vista alt tab on pc where it shows an actual preview image of all the open programs, if you click on the image it switches to the desired open program.
has anyone got anything simular to this app?
or...
would anyone be willing to make an app alost exactly like this?
(wm6.1 wvga)
Thanks!

Two other alternatives
Two other alternatives to this program are;
3D ALT TAB -=[ not running on my PPC anymore ]=-
and
wkTASK -=[ running on my PPC, activated via hardware button ]=-
wkTASK shares features of both Task Manager and Program Launcher for Windows Mobile 5/6. You can switch all running programs smoothly like desktop Windows, and launch applications easily.
Features
* Task-list
Using the upper bar, you can watch, switch, close and force termination running programs.
To exclude a task from the list, tap&hold it and select 'Hide'.
* X button
Using the X button, you can use some actions as follows:
o Tap: really close
o Tap&Hold: show context menu
o Drag: some gestures (To minimize, drag toward down. To show Today, drag toward left.)
* Program Launcher
Using key or tap, You can launch some applications, functions and contacts(phone call or e-mail).
* Key operation
To shift the Key operation mode, double-execute WkTask.exe or WkTaskCmd.exe(recommended because of smaller size). Some start options are available too.
* Brightness/Volume controller
You can control them in real time with key or tap.
* Other functions
rotation, suspend, reboot, network connection, etc.
* Preferences
To customize, it has a great deal of parameters. Enjoy your self!

With both these applications why the need to develop another task switcher??!
Hope this helps,
plain Alt-Tabing, with no bells or whistles, can be done with LMT Launcher:
LMT is a tool for the HD2 that launches a program when perform single touch or multitouch gestures on the screen. You can connect internal commands and external apps to any gesture LMT supports.
Commands
* “CloseLMT” -> close LMT
* “CloseApp” -> close the foreground app
* “Learn” -> activate learn mode
* “Back” -> send back key
* “Start” -> start menu
* “Lock” -> lock phone
* “Phone” -> start Phone app
* “Up” -> send Dpad up
* “Down” -> send Dpad down
* “Left” -> send Dpad left
* “Right” -> send Dpad right
* “PrevApp” -> switch to previous app (Alt-Tab feature)
* “NextApp” -> switch to next app (Alt-Tab feature)
* “Home” -> switch to Homescreen
* “Rotate” -> rotate screen
* “Controller” -> activate the controller mode

i already have wktask, which is a brilliant app but i made my topbar transparent and unfortunatly wktask does not support transparency so wktask stands out and looks dodgy :/
which is why im looking for a new app for alt-tab - i turned all the other features it has off, i only used it for the topbar icons for alt-tab
the 3d-alt-tab app looks like it may be what im looking for, ive downloaded it and i will test it later, ill post back with feedback.. hopefully its exactly what im looking for

RE: Feedback
*LMT did not work with my blackstone, guess its just for hd2..
*3D Alt-Tab works but not properly.. slightly buggy also its not what i wanted :/
cheers though dude's, muchly appreciated
iv searched xda for alt tab but not found anything else, (actually i found alttab.exe but not at all what im hoping for) i guess its now down to development.
ill make a picture and upload soon, basicly to show what im hoping for, or just to give ideas, no point in writing lots of crap talking sh*t when a picture is a thousand words
* it will be mainly based on the idea of miniflow and the vista alt-tab.
if anyone wants to develop please feel free, just let me know, maybe i can help somehow
Rn
...
(apart from the ones mentioned) there are no other decent alt-tab apps avaliable so ive made a picture of one just for an idea.
hopefully someone will pick up on this and develop it for us WM geeks
this is basicly what im looking for, if its not avaliable then i guess its an idea
the basic layout for the alt tab app i want, eg:
*swipe gestures, left or right to change to which app you want.. obviously lol, but with no animations so its faster and wont rape my ram
*swipe down to open the desired app, so it simply opens the app but again with no animations.
*swipe up to cancel and exit, maybe add an animation on exit.
???
Totally not alt tab, though oh so powerfull when used under a hardware button!
I've got to mention dotFred's Task Manager; http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
This program runs as a SERViCE !!! Activated on my device via double click on a hardware button.
A few pictures say more than 1,000 words..

For obvious reasons I'm holding on to wkTask and dotFred's TaskManager

Totally not alt tab lol

recently installed wktask again - so far its the best alt tab app avaliable!
