Charging a BL only Hermes. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I have been trying to resurrect a dead Hermes. However I am afraid the battery maybe close to dead now. Is it possible to charge it even though all it boots up to is the bootloader? Your prompt reply would be most appreciated.

I dont see why not. As long as the charge light goes orange when you plug it in it should be charging it... when it goes green its 100% charged. USb charging seems to take longer than mains charging though.

Thanks. It goes into the BL even when I plug it into the wall charger, but the battery does get warm so I'm assuming it's charging. But now I have across another problem; the ROM update halts at 12%, and for some reason it jumps from 10% to 12% before freezing up. Tried to push just the SPL but that just got stuck at 0% and threw an error 286 at me, which is not documented. It did how ever upgrade the IPL from 1.01 to 1.04. The current SPL is 1.04.Olipro. Is this a HardSPL? Can anyone tell me what exactly is preventing me from completing the flash, and what, if anything, I can do to rectify this? Thank you

Pardon? 1.04.Olipro? it actually says .Olipro at the end? because I'm pretty ****ing sure I never made a version 1.04

Oh typo there, I'm sorry. It's 1.40.Olipro I hope the Olipro suffix is still valid though.

So far two other people have reported that their units gets stuck at 12% wile flashing. This has to be more than a coincidence. Does anyone have any thoughts?

i have the same problem too.and i've described it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1571302&postcount=1548
but nobody answers.
Had you downloaded the wm6 Rom from htc site??

I downloaded it from the rapidshare link, on another thread in this forum. Can you try to upgrade through the memory card and tell what result you get? I don't have a memory card yet to test it on.

No OS on my G4, Help!!!!!!

Ok, so I tried to flash my G4 wizard to wm6, went all the way through the flash, got to 99% and stopped, giving me a comm error. I did the recovery and im in an endless flash to 99% loop. When I turn it on, I get the bootloader (3 stripe) screen, with the following:
RUU upper right corner
IPL 2.25.0001
SPL 2.25.0001
USB lower left corner.
I have spent the last 4 hours reading posts and cannot fix this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
did u flash it back to carrier rom?
Flash it back to the original carrier ROM (should be available on the website) and then use ShellTool to flash the ROM. make sure that you follow the instructions exactly, otherwise, you will end up with a bricked rom.
-Nstefanelli-
The only rom I can find on Cingular's web site, once downloaded says its corupted, and I cant find one on XDA at all. Anybody know where else I might find one?
Wizard Love rom is another one you could try.
Wizard Love got me goin again, I love me some wizard.
Thanks for the help guys!!!
Same Problem I Have Faced.... And Also Solved.
u have Radio Rom problem....
search the latest radio rom and upload to your rom... and restart your pda...

Same problem
I was having the same problem yesterday. Eventually i got it to work again. It was a little confusing though because i used the rom from the HTC website to get it up and running again with wm5 and then used ShellTool from the sticky in this forum to flash it with a wm6 rom. From what i gather it's because my phone was CID locked, something that none of the roms include in their instructions to watch out for. Maybe a sticky in the forum for newbs like me containing things to watch out for while flashing roms?
A side note:
I had to download the rom from the HTC site twice in order for it to flash back to the original OS. The first time i downloaded the rom i kept getting an error. I guess it was a bad download or something but the second one worked in the first shot.

There is no help for you if you did flash a non-official G3 rom onto your phone.
Recent Official carrier releases are the only roms that contain bootloaders that are safe to flash into a G4. (Note older carrier releases could possibly fry your phone as well as they may not contain G4 bootloaders)
If you flashed a custom rom with IPL/SPL your device is done for good.
Though you said it went to the bootloader prior to going dark so you may just have a dead battery and a bad flash. Get a battery from a friend or buy one and then see if the device will power on. If you can't get it to power on with a known good battery then it is most likely fried. If it does boot at least to bootloader then you should be able to recover your device. Most chargers will not charge the battery of your phone unless the phone is fully booted into windows. So it is very important to have a contingency plan in case of a bad flash with these phones as playing/troubleshooting while trying to recover from a bad flash will drain your battery possibly leaving you with not enough juice to complete a flash.
hi zzan
thanks for the reply, i think your right about the battery it actually turns on for about 10 seconds now into bootloader but then the battery dies again so i gonna source a battery.

Remove the battery for about 5 minutes, then put it back in.. then try booting in bootloader mode <tri color screen> .. then flash with an OFFICIAL Carrier ROM ..
I flashed my hermes yesterday <changing the spl and stuff> and it was dead for a little bit, until I took the battery out and put it back in.. <for some reason it was like a de-fibrilator..>
Try that.
hi madcap,
not looking good i toook it to a phone engineer and he says it is corrupt ? he has tried flashing it, apparently there is a guy who will put in a new chip ? i am such a fool i bricked my phone just to get rid of o2 stuff !!!!!

A new chip?!?!??
The problem is the in the IPL area which can now be flashed only via JTAG (cable system that doesn't require booting files since it operates directly on the chip)
Take it to an official repair.
Hi,
I have almost the same problem. I tried to flash to WM6.1 for wizzard, it got to 99% and failed (connection lost). I then tried the recovery process but that didnt work.
Now I can boot to the booloader, and see the IPL/SPL versions (2.25.0001) and can see USB on the lower left. But , it is not making a connection to my PC. None of the RUU, ROMS, HardSPL, or SoftSPL apps can connect to it.
They all report some connection error, "Device not found", or "Connection Error 264"...
I have read a bunch on this forum, and tried alot of stuff but nothing worked.
I started up my own thread on my issue, but hope someone could help me, help someone else in the process here..
How can I get this thing flashable again?
Thanks

This worked for me and now I can connect the apps to the phone again. But after I try to install the default rom, everytime at 80% it looses the connection again.. .
Anyone know a good WM6.1 rom that works with 8125 G4

Fully recharge your battery, then try to flash again. Low/dead/misreporting battery will kill a flash as surely as disconnecting the cable in mid-flash. Oh, and try WizFlo...really cool! (I had to fiddle with the Opera Browser install to get the Internet connection to work correctly, but who cares, it was worth it!)

Hard-SPL, Or How to Not Brick Your PDA Ever Again

Right, This is the basic Hard-SPL package; if you already have applied Hard-SPL with the unlocker then DO NOT BOTHER TO USE THIS PACKAGE.
This program is now foolproof as the SPL is flashed directly from the bootloader rather than from the OS so there's no opportunity for anything to go wrong.
for this to work, your device MUST BE RUNNING WINDOWS MOBLE and MUST BE SYNCED WITH THE PC.
to recap: IF YOU ALREADY HAVE 1.20/1.25, DO NOT USE THIS.
Thank you! I won't be waitin', though...
Whatever Trevor.

Go to the Athena forum and download the unlocker; do Step 1 to flash Hard-SPL.
after that you can close the program if you don't need to unlock.
if I come out with new releases of Hard-SPL, the package will be posted here.

Unlocker for x7501?
Is this unlocker suitable for the x7501 WM6 unit as well? Also do you still need to flash the SPL on the x7501?
Lastly what is "SPL" and why can you brick your device if you don't carry out this upgrade?

-----------------------DO NOT USE UNLOCKER ON UNLOCKED HTC 7501 ADVANTAGE ------------------
Oli,
I have (had) a brand new unlocked 7501 Advantage. I followed your unlocker advice above to do step 1 very carefully and now have a bricked device after I saw the same error trying to backup my SPL file like others. Can you place a big bold warning on your SPL Flash link so that other people may not see the same fate...from reading the comments on this thread we are lead to believe that you suggest that we should flash to your SPL before trying a cooked ROM on the 7501 Advantage...
TIA

Are you able to get into bootloader? If I read correctly the answer should be no but I wanted to confirm either way. If no, how have you tried to get into bootloader? Key sequence in other words? Have you removed the SD card also?
You are correct, I cannot seem to get into the bootloader or even get the device to come alive at all. I tried camera + reset, volume down + reset, volume down + camera + reset, I looked all over the forum and found a few others but still no luck. All I see is the red LED around the Joystick either become solid lit (without battery in and on AC) or blink lit (with battery in and on AC). The light stays solid lit with battery out and all key combinations tried and does the quick blink lit with battery in and all key combinations as long as reset is pushed. Basically, it would seem that the reset key is working by resetting the circuit to the battery but the device just wont boot up.
I will be sending this unit back anyway due to a manufacturing defect of the SD card slot. When this particular unit was built, I guess no one actually checked to see if the a (mini not micro) SD card fits in, cause IT DON'T!! The slot was missed by about 2mm being to narrow in width...GEESH!!
I am not too happy with hardware of the 7501 right now and probably will look at getting the 7500 or Dopod version for "cooked ROM" pleasure but my advice to others reading this would be to not run out and get the 7501 at the lower price given the problems I am seeing. However, on a positive note, the few hours I did get the 7501 running, it was a blast and I still give the overall performance a 4.5 out of 5 star rating being the most complete and fastest PDA Phone I have had the pleasure to work with.

Man that sucks. Seems like you've tried the correct combination of keys to get into bootloader...just make sure you were pressing that camera button firmly because it's known not to take unless you do this.
What operating system is on your computer BTW? Windows XP/Vista?
I'm not sure I understood the problem with the SD Card. Do you mean to say that when you tried to put in a mini-SD card (not Micro), it wouldn't fit into the slot?

Hermes won't power up after flash ROM

I was following the instruction here on how to backup and re-flash your own Hermes ROM:
http://www.modaco.com/content-page/...ring-your-htc-hermes-rom/page/20/#entry894621
After I completed the last steps 9 of running RUUWrapper.exe, the screen told me that my ROM upgrade have completed successfully. then I looked at my Hermes and the screen is black and and it seems to be powered off.
After exited RUUWrapper.exe my PC Activesync icon is gray.
So I tried to soft reset and also hard reset, nothing happends.
I took battery out overnight and put back in and hit power and still won't turn on.
I plug USB cable in and the charge indicator amber light doesn't come on, if I have the battery out while USB cable plugged in, the charge LED will become red, but as soon as I put the battery back in the red LED goes away and doesn't turn amber color (the normal charging LED)
I've read both of the following:

any suggestions please??
Will doing the KITL+PB to try to boot OS will help? http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
But my Hermes won't even turn on now?
First thing I'd try (if you know someone with a hermes like yours) would be to swap batteries and see if theirs wont turn on with your battery and if your hermes will with his battery. Or you could go to a phone shop and see if they have a spare battery lying aroud to try (with the added promise of a potential sale if it works). Hope you can fix it though... Cheers...
Actually I just swap battery with my friend's working Hermes and his can turn on with my battery, and mine still won't turn on with his battery.
Seems there's very little I can do if my Hemes won't even turn on or response with USB cable plugged in.
Any other suggestion? I'm getting pretty desperate.
sounds like a hardware problem. if its under warranty, take back. If not, and you really wanna get fixed, you might have to pay. Check pricing first though as you may decide to upgrade instead.

thx 4 ur concrn
1st thing I'd try to do is to Hard SPL the phone. That was on page 116 of the "Hard SPL or how not to brick your hermes" thread I directed you to. It shows how to do using sd card. Then try to reflash with stock rom. This should get you back to where you started. Use the sd card method as I don't think you'll be able to use the pc. I don't know if this will work as it sounds like your friend also didn't Hard SPL your phone.
You REALLY shouldn't let anyone play around with such an expensive toy without proof that they know what they are doing (for example, own one themselves and have flashed their own MULTIPLE times with no problems) ... You might have a very expensive paperweight, and a bit more wisdom about letting others do what you should have learnt to do yourself.
All the best and I hope you get it working... Cheers...
i tried the solution u gave but didnt work too. the solution works with unbricked devices i gues (able to copy and excute files from it) but for me i tried to boot only the"HERMIMG.nbh" from the sd card (4 color screen or just black screen) & wich shows the following error code:00068002
thx for ur help.
paloma728, try flashing a stock rom. yu can do this by the sd card method too. I REALLY don't know if this will work but at this point it can't hurt. Nothing to loose and everything to gain... As it is the "right" update it MAY pass the CID check. Hope all goes well... Cheers..
your battery topped off while being plugged is my best guess. i dont think it's with the flashing of the rom at all
im new to this stf. (stock room)?. is it the exacly the method of copying the "RUU_signed.nbh" file to sd card and rename it to "HERMIMG.nbh" ?
if this is what u meant by stk rm then im not lucky again. i tried it b4 with many different rooms & always get errors
plz may u explain? thx for ur help & concern
today i downloaded an original room from t-mobile NL then tried the sd method & i recieved a new error code:"00028002 not allowed".
what does it mean plz?
You may have to take back to your supplier and see if they can fix under warranty if that didn't work. Don't hold your breath though...
unfortunatly there's no splr in here (morocco). thx alot mate

HTC HD2 won't start/bootload

Hello, I have a problem with my HTC HD2, it doesn't want to start. When I press the power button I feel only a tiny vibration, but only when the device is connected to a power source. Without power source it won't do anything.
Things that I've done : The phone was stuck in bootloader with the error "Upgrade ROM Code Error , Please try again", it had SPL 2.08.0000 so I've flashed HSPL 2.08. After that my device wouldn't start.
Things that I've tried : Take the battery away from the device , connect the device to a power supply, wait 5 minutes then put the battery back on.
Hard-Reset.
Tried to enter bootloader.
Also tried to flash the stock rom, before flashing HSPL 2.08. My device was stuck at 0% with no progress what so ever.
Please help !

It sounds like the battery is possibly over discharged. doing as i listed 'should' let the phone start charging without trying to turn itself on.

to do reset to last official greek rom of htc(HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_ELL_1.66.482.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship)changing the name of RUU_signed.nbh to LEOIMG.nbh and put it in to sd card. And in 5% shows me "update terminate, update fail, radio v2 fail" and then when it starts shows white screen again.I can get only in bootable mode (that mens in the screen with the colors ni wich you can see wich spl you have)How can i fix my hd2 pls?

Thank you very much samsamuel,by the way I have one more question to ask : Is it possible to brick the device by simply flashing HSPL 2.08 ? (SPL 2.08.0000 was installed)
I will try your method and I will keep you informed on my progress.
Thanks a million.

it's highly unlikely, but as with anything of this nature nothing is foolproof

bad news for you i'm afraid. i'm not aware of any successful fixing of radio update error.
Ok,thanks, I hope that the battery is the source of this problem, not the device .
I went today at a local service, they've told me that the battery is 100% charged. Unfortunately the problem is with my HD2. I left it in service and I will pick it up tomorrow repaired I hope. Thank you for helping me.

I knew I made a mistake, my question now is can it be fixed ?
Hi, I tried to instal Android 2.3 Gingerbread on my htc hd2 but when I installed MAGLDR it stopped working. I realized I had installed the wrong HSPL, but now it won't start or respond to a USB connection. I can't turn it on or off and it only shows a white image with HTC on it....Does someone know how to help?
Greetzz
pull battery, restart into bootloader, apply 2.08.hspl,restart.
My HD2, won't start up.
My plan was to remove an ICS rom, but during my reinstallation of an other rom everything got deleted..
Now my problem, it won't load into MAGLDR, I do have HSPL 2.08 etc.
Does someone have an idea?

Finally I was able to load my HD2 into MAGLDR so problem solved..

[HELP] Lots of problems with flashing my TMO HD2...

I don't know where to begin so I'll just list the problems I have been encountering why trying to flash a stock ROM into my TMO HD2.
Preloaded with Android Gingerbread 2.3+HSPL 2.08+Magldr 1.11
Stuck at 123456 Go Go Go
Digitizer cracked & removed
Tried flashing stock TMO 3.14 ROM to ascertain if it is lack of digitizer causing problem
Was able to perform Task 29 normally initially
Could not run 3.14 RUU successfully nor via SD card method with HSPL 2.08 intact. RUU stuck at 8% & SD method stuck at Radio forever
Upgraded HSPL to 3.03 successfully using HSPL 4
Still could not run 3.14 RUU; same as above
Rolled back to SPL 2.08.000 using HSPL 4
Started having problems with Task 29; could not complete properly
Tried MTTY (v.1.42) but could not format NAND
Upgraded to HSPL 2.08 using HSPL3
Still could not perform Task 29 successfully. Sometimes successful & other times not. Mostly met with limited success using SD card method & CustomRUU Task 29 met with numerous connection error (262, 266, 284)
.....
Now, managed to roll back to HSPL 2.08 after redoing SPL 2.08.0000 even though 'We hacked it' screen stayed on with HSPL3 tool 'Critical error'
Trying to flash stock 3.14 RUU met with Error 284
Tried flashing from SD card, screen displayed 'Loading...' perpetually
After pulling battery for about 10 mins, powering up to 'Stick Together' splash screen without any red letters
Now when trying to flash using RUU, it would fail with Error 284/266 & the driver would spontaneously change from HTC USB Sync to Qualcomm Diagnostic Interface 3197 (COM17)??!!
Question:
I think my phone is not bricked but can it be salvaged?
Will the lack of a digitizer prevent it from being flashed?
Can it be salvaged with JTAG?
I cannot charge the battery in the phone now even with power off. Would the remaining battery power prevent or negatively influence the flashing?
Anyone who have met with success in recovering from something like this...or anyone who has dealt with similar symptoms, please advise me what to do from here.
I really need help.
Thanks!
Konker

probably your only option, though I would guess at a hardware issue, bad nand blocks, or similar with a ll the varied errors.
You could also try chilling teh phone in eth fridge, in a sealed bag for half an hour, with teh sd card ready to flash stock rom straight away, , if this is sucessfull, then you have thermal issues.

Thanks for the response!
Am I suppose to see the R... at the bottom of the splash screen if the radio is working normally despite having completed Task 29?
I know the OS is wiped but the radio is still there....I think.
Does JTAG restore the radio?
The phone does not get anywhere near hot or very warm when I'm doing all these steps so will putting it in the freezer make a difference? I was under the impression that this works when the device has been exposed to heat or is hot for an extended period of time.
Task 29 doesnt touch the radio, only the rom. You may be able to flash cooked roms, and maybe magldr, just not anything with a radio included. Fridge probbly won't help if you're happy that it isn't heat related.

I'm not seeing the R... at the bottom of the splash screen now so does that mean that my radio is fried?
Also, can you comment if not having a digitizer installed would prevent WM6.5 from flashing properly? I've read in the Android thread that it will prevent Android from booting, which is why I decided to flash a WM ROM first to ascertain the hardware condition.
I'll give the 'cold treatment' a try & see how it goes & am in the process of downloading a custom ROM to try. The current HSPL is 2.08 but I'm not sure if it is working properly since the last HSPL attempt ended with the 'We hacked it' stuck on the screen without a reboot & a critical error for the HSPL tool.
Lastly, any idea why it would switch from standard driver to diagnostics driver? It's weird & I can't explain it.

Samsamuel... it's a bad sign, but there are situations where that info doesn't show, however combined with it sticking at 8%, which is about when the radio gets flashed.....

Samsamuel........ No, people have flashed successfully with broken digitizers, shouldn't affect winmo, up until it requires input after initial boot.

Samsamuel....... Id try a different pc if at all posible, though i have had to pull battery myself at the hacked it screen, (not even sure it does reboot itself, from memory, hehe)

that's worrying, too, because that's what happens when tmous gets radio bricked,,,phone becomes utterly unresponsive and pc searches for qualomm diagnostic drivers.
I too in similar situation. I can't get NAND android to boot up get stuck on 123456 GO GO GO! Try flashing the stock rom and get stuck on 8% Task 29 still work for me. If I flash Task29 you think I'm able to flash a custom rom that doesn't touch the radio? The only problem is that i was able to flash the radio with no problem.

Do you still have magldr on the phone?
If not, do you see the R...when the default splash screen shows up after powering up the phone?
If not, you might be in a similar situation as me.
I cannot ascertain if my radio is really bricked as there's no way to see or detect that & as samsamuel indicated, having the PC detect a diagnostic port might suggest that my radio is bricked.
I did try to flash a compatible radio to my phone but it failed everytime.
Magldr is still on the phone. I am able to flash new radio with no problem. are you able to flash just a rom and not a a rom & radio?

yes you are right my bro ... had same problem ... after cooling phone in fridge for 5-10 min it will go perfect BUT still it wouldnt boot into winm so i decided to try android in nand , flashing went ok but after that it wouldnt boot Fatal hit ( magdlr) so i put phone in fridge again for 5-10 min and Yes it booted in android - tried same with WP7 ... But after using a while it will get hot and will stock or restart

I think your HD2 is in a lot better shape than mine.
At least you can flash your radio...I can't flash either ROM or radio.
But I suspect your problems might be due to corrupted NAND.
Have you tried Task 29 with mtty?
At least you can see error messages with mtty when doing Task 29.

ubejd, you gave your HD2 the 'cold treatment' after it turned warm & refused to boot or rebooted automatically am I right?
Would it do my HD2 any good to put it in the freezer when it is cool as room temperature? It has been sitting there unplugged & unpowered for at least 8 hours. I have not tried the 'cold treatment' but flashing custom ROMs with HSPL 2.08 also failed.
Seems like a combination of radio brick & NAND failure...

you can try, it wouldnt do any harm but just put in isolated place - bag before putting in the fridge - to keep safe phone from getting wet and dont let more then 5-10 min maximum... but as i told it will not boot again in win mob - i hope it does but i doubt ... if it fails to boot than consider to go with android or winp7
i have one question how it began to act like this... did it fall or you bought like that
i hope you success
best regards from me
Gave it a go with the freezer test. I was surprise that i was able to boot up into CWM, & load up Android. Now I can only use the phone for maybe 20 min or so before it get hot again and I have to put it back in the freezer. Is there a way to tell which HD2 is bad batch?
I first one had no problem beside the bad screen, my 2nd HD2 is having heating issues. Seem like I can't win.

I gave my HD2 the 'cold treatment' & I was mildly surprised that it reached the 2/3 mark when using the SD card method to flash a custom ROM but that was it. Back to square 1...

if you have both of them take motherboard from the one who has bad screen and put in one who has heating issues this way you will have at last one working hd2...
I had the same problem too. I knew I wasn't the only one with this problem.
Now I'm sure, MAGLDR makes the NAND corrupted (over 8%). My phone won't charge too, gets stuck at 8%, get stuck on splash screen and doesn't show any red lines...

Flash failing at 8/9% has been happening long before magldr, , and seems to be connected to the radio being corrupted.
But I can flash a radio via RUU... if my radio were corrupted, flashing a radio should not be possible. Am I right ?
With RUU : I'm stuck about 1 minute on 8% then the process resume up to 100% without any error, but whatever the ROM I flash, no one reach splash screen.
With SD : No problem.
Like the OP, my phone is acting weird when I plug on charge.
With cable to PC : autoboot (MAGLDR 1.13 issue)
With cable to AC : red led but when I plug off the cable, the red led is still on (until I remove the battery).
It's clear that in any way, MAGLDR is not completly removed of my HD2 (yeah, I flashed some stock ROM with SD card).
I think I'll send it to repair, I'll leave feedback if I send it.
