This morning, my PDA suddenly showing many missing programs, all that I installed on SD Card disappeared!!. When I use File Explorer, it only shows that I have only 2 folders, Mail Attachment and Temp.. where are the rest??
The weird thing is that when I look at the capacity (using card reader)... it shows that I only have 300MB Free space, 700MB in use, which is about right. But why can't I see them? These two folders are only less than 1MB. Can anyone give me suggestion what to do? I'd like to retrieve all that are in my SD Card.
All comments would be greatly appreciated. Thx
it happened to me when i used my moto.. n i simply used a file recovery software n got all my data back.. it happens when u lose the mft...
Does it mean I have to start thinking of buying new SD Card? Why is this happening? corrupted SD Card?...
might be caused by a memory hole.. but... cant say specifically till u test all the MUXed bits of the card...

It's happpened to me last week. When I inserted back SD card, card couldn't be read and asked me to format. I check with Pc it's also same. What I frustated most, My 2GB SD card becomes 1GB after reformating. What's wrong and how to gain back my previous 1GB?
This is really weird.. I think my SD card needs to retire.
After playing with it, I just couldn't bring back all the files and folders in my SD card, so I decided to reformat it and reinstall everything back again. After I finished reinstalling everything.. I was happy and I soft reset the SD Card again and boom, everything disappeared again, only Mail Attachment and Temp folders that were there..
This SD card is going to waste bin.

ive got a sandisk 256mb card which one day decided to corrupt all my data on it and now i got boxes and symbols for the folders and i cant seem to delete these files from the sd disk from the xda or from windows, it is complaining about the data being write protected or that im unable to perform the request!
any idea on how i format this bugger?
i dont need the data on it i just need to
format it or get rid of the files on it!
any   help appreciated
thanx!
Silly question maybe, but it isn't the little switch on the card, is it?
yes m8 thats the 1st thing i checked!
can a sdreader format the card ?
Weird, I just noticed I have this same problem today.
Although I have an SD card reader on my PC, so as soon as I find the drivers, I should be able to format it. Don't know any other way though
my card did the same thing
i'm not sure if it happent because i took it out while some of the programs on it were running in the background
or if the sdreader killed it
i could not format it using the sdreader or anything
solved it with this tool
it format'd the card in 10sec and it's been ok ever since

okay, I'm almost too embarrassed to even post this...
I was flashing my XDA last night with the Developers Edition Rom, and that went smoothly. however, it was really late, and I wasn't paying any attention (lol) to what SD card was in my fone when it askedme if I wanted to format. Stupidly, I said yes I want to format, and then realized that the card inside was the nifty little 32 MB card that came with the phone from At&t that had all the cool games on it.
so my questions are:
1) does anyone know of any utils that can unformat a SD card?
2) does anyone happen to have that at&t card with the games/etc on it that they'd consider making a copy of?
3)does anyone have any other ideas of how I can get another copy of that data??
yeah, it's a petty problem, and I'm a dumbass for flashing my fone at 3:00am, but I'd still appreciate any help
It is possible to unformat a hard drive I believe as the data isnt overwritten, not sure how you would go about it with an sd card, I think its just the header that is changed so if you havent written to the card since format all the data will be there. You could try a disc doctor program such as norton and see which files you can salvage through your card reader.
nope...haven't written anythign to the card yet at all. I've got a copy of Norton utils someplace....I gues sI'll try and see if installing that on my desktop somehow lets me unformat on my SD card though the card reader, lol.
My phone did that to my little games flash, all by itself. I downloaded tons of utilities, but was not able to retrieve anything
Yes you can retrieve your formated data back !!
you need a program and a card reader !!
yeah, I tried that, Norton Utils, and a card reader
no joy on that
Oh well, too late now
I turn my phone off at night because random emails wake me up. I turn on my phone this morning and I have an SD card icon in the notification area saying that my SD card is damaged. It says that I need to format it to fix the problem, but I wait to see if there is an easy fix like rebooting or something like that, but it was still there after rebooting. I was going to wait to backup my SD card on my computer before formatting, but one of my friends formated it without asking me first when I showed him what was happening...
Now the icon is gone, but my SD card is full of files that have weird characters (like greek letters and square root symbols) in their filenames, and I can't figure out what is going on.
The /sdcard folder contains the following:
.android_secure
Android
download
LOST.DIR
nandroid
tmp
and 4 files with weird characters as filenames.
Help! I don't know what to do!

I could be wrong but I think those are the standard folders that android makes when a card is formatted. As to why it happened I dont know. Maybe a bad sd card.
Try formatting it to a FAT32 on your computer then putting it in your phone and see what that does.
Just did that and it says:
"Windows could not complete the format."
Hm.... well are you having problems with saving anything to your sd card like pictures or anything. If not, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Also can you mount your sd card to your computer and transfer files?
Don't worry about it..
You can completely wipe out your sd card if you wanted to and when you reboot it will reinstall back the files needed for the phone on the sd card.. If it is bothersome then just delete them.. It was probably just the lost&found garbage or whatever from the format... Seriously don't worry... LoL
I have those on my sd card but nothings wrong with my phone.
If someone could close this that would be great. Eventually my computer asked me to scan my sd card for errors and it fixed everything.
I droped my phone (I know :/ ) and my phone was no longer able to open apps on the sd card so I wiped and reflashed Tazz v.22 but it can't install any apps from the market or sd, just hangs on install. File manager and music along with recovery can read the SD card but the OS can't dismount it, it only force closes. This is not the first time this has happened but the only time it has had a negative effect. The back cover and battery flew across the room any ideas on what has happened or how to fix this? Everything (processor, touch screen, WiFi/3G, ect) all work :3
Try reformatting the SD card from Amon RA recovery and see if that helps. You have to use the Partition option to do so, just choose 0MB for everything unless you know you want additional partions (for Apps2SD and/or Swap). Make sure and copy anything you want to save from the SD card (if it's recoverable) first, and put it back on after reformatting if you need it back on there.
After putting whatever ROM(s) you want to reflash on your SD card, make sure and check the MD5 hash to see if it matches the MD5 hash reported by the ROM dev (ask them in their thread what it should be if they don't post it in the first post).
Thanks, I'm partitioning now and ill post how it goes
if that process doesnt work, you might try another sd card if you have one handy, just to see if its the reader or what.... you can alway take advatage of your warranty and tell em your sd wont mount, if nothing else works....
Unfortunately it didn't work. I am not sure why my SD would work for everything (Apps, and Recovery) but not the main OS and what that has to do with my phones ability to install apps to any location. I have tested: GPS, WiFi, 3G, Touch Screen, SD mounting to comp., and LEDs and they all work; This is strange. I am not sure what is "wrong", is there a way to check to see if the internal memory, or a special important place that I don't know of, is damaged or corrupted?

That's a good idea; my only problem is that the water sticker just under the cover has been activated by my hand sweat back in days when I tried for hours on end to use Captainkrtek's root method. But the sticker on the battery is not activated so hmmm
Edit: I am googling my problem and will try some of the ideas out there and let everyone know how it goes
i think youd be okay... mine fell in a pool and they still accepted it for a broken sd reader over 8 months ago ...
Super woot: I fixed it; I had to delete my .android-secure folder. I still need to test other stuff but I can now istall apps for the SD card

Definitely woot! Glad you figured it out.
I installed MIUI on my girlfriend's fascinate last night and this morning she's just told me her phone has a notification for a damaged SD card... I told her to try unmounting/removing it and the problem persists making me believe it's the internal card.
Can anyone point me in the correct direction to fix this? I'd like to recover as many of the files from the phone before wiping it if possible.
Thanks!
First thing you should do to confirm whether it's internal or not is to just try swapping the MicroSD with another. I really don't know for sure, but I don't think it would tell you that you have a damaged SD card if it's talking about the internal storage.
Do you have a card reader for your PC? Plug it into that and see if it works. If it detects it, try running a chkdsk on it. If something got corrupted on it somehow, that should take care of it. You shouldn't have to format it.
She's currently at her family's house (we're in college... don't live on our own ) but I'll try that later. She tried putting her microSD in her brother's phone and both phones displayed a damaged memory card notification, which makes me think it may be both.
Also, she's got cwm red, not orange. Could that be the issue? If so, how do I switch to orange?

If the same MicroSD gave a damaged message in another phone, it's almost certainly the MicroSD.
I know there's some issue with Gingerbread ROMs corrupting SD cards. I thought it didn't apply to CM7 or MIUI, but I'm not totally sure. CWM shouldn't have anything to do with it, though. It's odd that she has red CWM, though. How does she enter recovery?
I'd expect chkdsk to handle it. Once you've got access to it and a PC, open the command prompt, and try "chkdsk x: /f /x", where x is the drive letter for the card.
I would think you could just look at the SD card & phone storage section in Settings. Damaged memory card usually appears as not present.
The SD doesn't show up in the mounts and storage, yes. Any idea how to recover those files?
Does the internal memory show up?
From my experience, once it's corrupted it can't be used again. There are several programs that may help you recover files on the card but you probably will not be able to use the card again unless you can get it formatted on something else, ie camera.

If you have a card reader on a PC there's a program called Recuva that may be able to recover pics, video, etc.
try formatting it
