Can you get an adapter for a USB pen drive and use it? it would be nice if I could simply plug in my pen drive and view/edit/transfer files on my phone.
it wizards like most other htc devices dont support usb host
which is required to use other usb devices
I think is'nt possible.

Hello.
I think that the phone hasn't usb host. It's usb client and can't read and use and recognize the other computer, pendrive, etc.
Bye.

Hi guys,
I was wondering if it is possible, or if there is an adapter to connect a USB stick / drive to my htc touch cruize?
Example
Please let me know if I am thinking correctly before I ruin my smartphone.

It is not possible. Polaris cannot be used as USB Host - you cannot connect USB devices to it. You can only connect Polaris to PC using USB cable.
But, why don't you just buy a small adapter, that way you can put the micro sd in a USB adapter and voila, you got your fully loaded USB stick! Sandisk includes them with their micro sd but these are UGLY...

Don't know sure for HTC Polaris, but I saw in one Russian and Chinese forums that they did for RoverPC and Amoi as USB host.
Hello I got a USB gender change: A-Female to A-Female so that i could connect a self powered USB Hub to my Archos.
So far i have connected a self power Hard Disk directly into my Archos 70.
Didn't pick it up.
A mouse in the USB Hub.
Didn't pick it up.
A pen drive directly.
Didn't pick it up.
Is the Archos 70 locked down or does the USB Micro B connector they have on the Archos 70 work different?
I thought USB was a universal connector!
... one thing you have to realize is the device needs drivers to work those devices. you just cannot flip flop the connector and expect everything to work. tipically unless the device has a INPUT port which is a standard usb port not a micro or mini 5 or an old 1.1 usb connector it wont work.
Alot of those hongkong micro a to b converters are rubbish.
The nokia has been reported to work.
You need a USB "HOST" Cable, it contains a chip that puts your devices on "master" mode.
The Nokia and Archos one work, for the others don't expect them to work at all if they do not mention to be USB "HOST" cables !
BTW, the feedback is not very good, seems that it can deliver only 200mA, so if you want to plug an external disk drive, make sure you have a power supply on it before
Also some USB keys need more than 200mA so they won't mount at all :/
I found this: http://www.kjell.com/content/templa...9&path=97000000,119000000,149500000,151500000
Translation: Used by for example mobile phones with USB host (it's own built in USB controller).
Is the USB "HOST" Cable the same as this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go

That cable doesn't look correct.
[correction - that cable at kjell looks correct for hooking two USB On-The-Go devices together. So if you wanted to hook your Archos to another Archos or to a blackberry.]
Look for a micro usb Nokia n810 host cable. Or "Micro USB Host OTG". They seem widely available in the us on eBay
Usually they have the micro USB male connector and a full size female connector on the other. Be careful because some are mini USB, you want micro USB
Look on the us eBay for a picture.
Here is a pretty good picture also - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.51045 several people have confirmed this one works.
Yeah, the connector is obviously wrong on that one. I was mostly curios about whether this USB HOST cable was the same as an OTG.
That's the only cable of OTG type that I've seen in any retail store in Sweden (although I haven't been looking for it until now), so I was thinking of maybe getting it in the store and then get an adapter for the connector. But since there's a special pinning on these cables (as I understand from the Wikipedia article) maybe that doesn't work?
I'll probably go for the Nokia cable anyway, just to be sure, should be able to find it in a retail store somewhere...

this works fine on my 32IT. I can use my microSD adapter, camera, powered hard drive, multi-card reader with SD cards and USB mouse. Other people have said they can't get USB host to work at all, even with this cable, but it works for me.
USB mouse works ok.
But it`s not enought power for 3G USB dongles.... Печалька.
Nokia ones works ok

hi:
i think i will try to get hptp from ebay.
i see that it doesnt have usb for flash drive..
assuming that if connected to a dongle, it will read/write to flash drives,
which adapter should i search for.. mini male (for tp) > usb (flashdrive)?
thanx
I have read a thread on the usb host mode for the TP (can't remember which of the 8 forums I am on) that the micro usb port WILL support host mode BUT you will need a "Y" cable to provide power at the same time. Do a search for "host mode " on the TP forums and check it out. I have not attempted it so far as I have not found the correct "Y" cable mentioned in the thread.

There is fully functional USB Host support, you don't even need to do any SW modification, everything is supported out of the box with one caveat, you need external power.
Support for keyboard, mice, harddrives and cameras is fully built in the default WebOS software.
I guess HP planned to sell their own USB attachments, iPad-style.
The only thing you need is USB OTG cable. Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-micro-U...781644?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19c7d49acc
Basically just search for "USB OTG cable" on ebay, costs about $3. And USB Y-cable. The only two things you need are OTG microUSB cable and USB Y cable to provide external power.
I am still looking into possibility of self-powered usb host mode, with all the support HP built in for it it almost sounds like a given there must be a way to enable it one way or another. Unfortunately chipset documentation is almost nonexistent.

well i got hptp today..
the ebay link USB OTG cable for was great..
the y cable search was confusing:: i do not know which kind to look for plus.. i dont see how to use this thing.. how does it get power.. i spose the USB OTG cable plugs into one of the "y" but im lost really...
i appreciate all responses..
thanx
What i've bought:
OTG: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-O...070399?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f0e501abf
USB Female to Female: http://www.ebay.com/itm/280732594049?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Y cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120626863147?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
External battery with USB: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/2400ma...a-cable-for-htc-desire-g5-samsung-i9000-57905
What i've got: unusable pile of crap. The whole system can power up a mouse or gamepad, or external HDD (which is need to be powered from wall socket in addition to TP) but it's much worse with anything else: 16gb flash stick - lights up, but not enough power to read data, USB card reader don't even lights up. And situation with powering from PC USB (instead of ext. battery) is the same.
Anyway, even if the whole system would work, i doubt that you would take all those cables with you wherever you go, so it's useless.
i watched the russian vid..
hassle w/ capital H
little to zero hope of this gonna ever work
thanx for replies
Hi! all. need to find out if its possible to use a USB hub to attach 2 or 3 thumbdrive all at once so that i can copy & paste files from one thumbdrive to another.
maybe a powered hub. I just tested a non-powered hub and the minute i plugged a usb 4GB flash drive in I got that error about a "high powered USB device".

I confirm, powered hub is working well.
Yeah, I have a 3 port USB dock with SD Card + micro reader for the Tab family. I think you need those specially-made docks for use with the Tab family. Normal USB ports won't work due to the different 30-pin cable that Samsung uses.
Link Please
I have seen multiple adaptors but they only work for image files and certainly do not have multiple USB inputs.
Could you please supply a link for the accessory you describe or, if that is not possible, the name of the device and/or the manufacturer.
Thanks

Thanks buddy!
Hi,
I have just bought a new Tab and want to use my external hard drive with it. I have the USB connector and a y cable to provide power to the external drive, when I plug in it recognises the drive but says it is blank, the drive is in FAT32 format so should be OK. I have done some searching on Google and can`t seem to find an answer. The drive is a Western Digital 320gb passport.
Can anyone help?

It should work as long as its powered.
AGREED with @scottx bro (never tried though)
Is there an issue with the partition size as I have seen in the forums for some other Samsung devices they only read up to 64 gig?

yes it does. i've got it working on my tab 2 and note II.
my drive is 560gb ntfs formatted. The drive needs to be powered and the software app "Paragon NTFS&HFS+" to auto mount the drive.

Hello All, I also confirm that the Drives are supported I also use 1TB Hard drive connected but to achive that I have the Tab2 7" the original samsung usb adapter for OTG then I connect a USB hub with double USB cable one to connect to a usb charger and the another end to the samsung adapter, the I connect the Drive to one of the USB inputs of the hub and you can use the drive ( I have it formatted as FAT32) and I think I can access the hole drive. I have like 500Gb used and at least I can see all the folders I have. I think I also was able to connect other devices at the same time without problems. (Usb mouse and keyboard).
I am not sure if the trick is the USB hub as in my Playstation if I connect the 1TB drive it is not detected but if I connect the hub with the drive then it is detected and had no issue to access it. Probably it is the same for android devices. =S
If someone need to use the hard drive in windows and in the tablet I suggest to prefer NTFS file system..
With PARAGON exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ we can mount hard drive without format it and we can use use as same as a flash drive
For an external hard drive 3,5" we need the wall plug, so we only need to connect the USB through the USB otg adaptor and here to the tablet
If we have a 2,5" hard drive without wall plug there are a few methods:
Use a USB hub with a wall plug and connect it with a Y cable (with this method we can connect other devices like mouse or keyboard)
Use a small USB wall plug and connect it with a Y cable
This two method are the easier but we need a wall plug, I'm trying right now to make small USB battery charger so we can go out and use the hard drive for some hours.
Another solution is to buy an SSD and connect it through a hard disk bay for data to usb interface
With his small amount of current I think it doesn't require a wall plug, but it costs so much for now..
