My LCD got all cracked up in my pocket so I needed a new LCD.
I ordered the LCD from blackberry8100parts and it got within a week. I installed it today and it works like new. I video tapped parts of me tearing apart my wing to put on youtube.. It's easy do take apart if you take your time with it. I didn't get the plastic opening tool they said it was suppose to come with but I had one at work.. It's not necessary if you just run a small precision flathead around the seams after removing the screws.
Thanks for the link.. they had the cheapest LCD I could find on the net.

defective screen try send it back for new one
I cracked my LCD. I purchased a new one from seller LCD4PDA. I got the screen for $61 shipped after $5 Ebay Coupon. I used the tools and instructions included, and also the Herald/Wing Service Manual to assist in the process. It took a little time, I was being very cautious not to break anything. I would highly recommend disassembling/assembling the phone two times just to get a feel for it first. It's not too hard though, and the screen works great!
sorry to push that older thread, but i also have a cracked TFT-screen. does anybody know where to get a replacement TFT with touchscreen in germany?
or europe with less shipping costs?
thanks in advance!
www.blackberry8100parts.com
these guys are good but i noticed the screen they sent me has developed a dent in the middle where i guess the screen is used the most. like a contour in the middle.
the reason i think its the "type" of screen they sent me is because i haven't had this problem with any other screens that I've had for longer.
i cracked my wing's screen and when it cracked it also cracked the touch screen part does anyone know a good site with reasonable prices?...i was gonna send it to HTC but they asked 150 nd thats way too much
my touchscreen got cracked, i ordered a new digitizer for 12 euros, this was including shipping.
does anyone have experience with replacin the digitizer apart from taking the complete lcd out?
you tube link
i followed this tutorial and it went very easy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN6cKRM2F1M
ty, thats the one i used
unfortunately it only replaces the lcd screen and not remove the digitizer from it. But it helped me almost all the way
now that i have my lcdscreen seperated from my digitizer i found out the connector is different so im stuck anyway..

That is just for the digitizer part, not for the whole screen, like how they worded the listing, you can tell because you can see through the screen. most times the digitizer is fine but the lcd below is cracked and has to be replaced
Hi.
Where can I buy a replacement LCD for HTC Herald? Is it difficult to replace it myself?
The best place to purchase a screen would be straight from china. If you want I can contact my link in china for the price of an lcd, or you can try and find one on e-Bay. I've done quite a few lcd and housing replacements for Pocket Pc devices and I suggest that you dont do it unless you know what you are doing. One of my friends even took his device to a real technician and he still messed it up. My suggestion would be to find a certified technician and make sure that they offer a warranty service for 3-6 months after the servicing.
EDIT: you must find the HTC model number of the LCD, and use that to search. Even though its the same size as the wizards, the flex cable might be in a different position. Also I think it would be quite hard to change without a corresponding service manual. My LCD was replaced also, but at the time it was still under international warranty, so I decided to send it in to HTC. HTC also modded my phone by adding an extra plate in between the slide out keyboard and the screen, has made the slide out more sturdy.

Do you have a link for a china webshop where they have it?
I will contact them when I get home and get them to send an English link to their website. In the meantime try to find a service manual for the Herald.
I don't mean to advertise, but I got my LCD from here when I cracked mine.

$60 for a perfect OEM screen with touch sensor is a DAMN fine deal, and they were pretty much the only site I could find under a hundred bucks.

That's a damn nice site! too bad I would not risk repairing it myself, and going to a technical repair guy with your own stuff is not an option lol
i got a replacement screen from CNN.CN via fedex and it arrived in 3 days. fitted it myself, as i have replaced several phone housings in the past. it can be a bit of a mission, took me 2 hours with rest breaks and no rushing.
as long as your patient and methodical, it can be done yourself.

Hey Guys
I finally managed to crack my wizard (dropping it out of everywhere )
The prob is that I cracked only the touchscreen not the LCD.
The touchscreen seems to get the touches but it understands them differently.
For Ex:I push the Time on HTC HOME It opens the soft or left key dependent on where I'm pressing.
I found a touchscreen on e-bay without an LCD for 13 bucks so I ordered it but I wanted to know if anyone else had any luck with same situation

Same case yesterday
I also drooped y phone yesterday and I have a crack line running across the screen but the touch screen is working ok for me. I saw the eBay auctions about screen and no lcd but what if the lcd is the part that is broken ?
can we change that too ?

I have several times replace LCD in a wizard. It was very difficult for me to replace the touchscreen so i take the complete set. It is not only te replace the touch layer, but you must alse do some soldering.
And if jou replace the screen, the flexcable must be propperly fit. Before i assembley al, i first check if screen en touch are oke.

It seems to be. I did it on a wizard and i know the HTC 8125 is the same one with a different housing.
I remember this kind off LCD picture. There is a dissasembly guide but you need a torx 4, plastic openingstools and a very tiny X screwdriver.

i have succesfully replaced the touch screen on my tmobile mda vario.
check that the ribbon cable is exactly the same as whats on your phone. the first touchscreen i got of ebay the ribbon cable was slightlly different and after assembling it didtn work, after getting another one with same ribbon cable, worked perfectly.
Note that you will have to solder the ribbon cable, a good soldering iron with a very fine tip will make it fairly easy. ribbon cable is very small so soldering can be a tad fidgity.

No need to buy the lcd seperate from the touchscreen and resistance weld the cables

I'd just go ahead and get the lcd screen with the digitizer. That soldering won't work unlest you can resistance weld the lcd ribbon cable and digitizer cable together and its only about $30 bucks on ebay now for them both together. Then you just get the repair manual, open the phone, swap the screen out and just plug it in and it works.
Is it easy to just change the touchscreen? how to do it?
Hi,
I had the same problem few month ago, and at that time the LCD screen was broken, and I had to change it by myself (with no big problems).
now I have a similar problem but just the touch screen is broken, I see that the price of just the touch screen is much cheaper that the whole LCD screen, but my doubt is:
How can I install just the touchscreen on th LCD,
I heard that you have to solder it.. but how? and is it easy?
is someone of you knows how to do it please post the istructions...
Luca

I say if you are asking for instruction or pictures on how to replace a touch screen, you will not be able to do it yourself, it's a specialised techie job. I suggest replacement of the entire unit assembly - LCD+digitizer.
enigma is right.
Changing the digitizer is not an easy job. I recently had a "blind spot" in the middle of the digitizer, and I did not even think about changing it. Instead I obtained a LCD/digitizer unit from *bay for a bit above 20 Euros including postage (from China). Changing the LCD unit was done in 20 minutes all in all, and now my good old Wizard works fine again.
If you decide to buy a complete unit (I would really recommend this!), be shure to buy the right one, there are two types, one with a "gold ribbon", one with a "black ribbon". So, first you have to open your Wizard and look which type you need. Good luck.
htc housing
Hi guys, my trusty old wizard has finally fallen apart. the hain housing is craked even though the lcd and the phone itself is still in top condition. I am looking for a new housing so I can replace the old one and end up with a virtually new phone. Could someone point me to the right place please. I have been trawling the internet these last few days but because they have been out of production for that long, there does not appear to be any places I can get a housing to buy. Your help will be deeply appreciated.
Cheers.
tight well...
I bought a white G1 that has been run over... ive seen videos and images of this device working perfectly the keyboard is fine and the touch screen is fine.
However the glass is cracked badly (can still see everything on screen) and also there is no signal on the device, im guessing its the antenna?
So my questions are, how much do you think it would cost to repair? and also where in the UK can i get it done? any sites? or should i take it into a shop, if so what one? or should i buy the parts and do it myself?
Considering the cheapest screen goes for around 60 dollars in Hong Kong and is not even an OEM screen, I saw you will be in for atleast 100 dollars. I believe to repair is around 150 dollars at the cheapest. Don't quote me on it though, I just saw that somewhere else.
It's it's only the glass that's cracked though. Ok so about 100 quid for the glass and repair. How much for the antenna?
Thanks for the reply

It's going to depend on what happens when it's opened up. It could be a few things. The antenna itself is most likely not the cause but rather the connections. It could be a bad solder or even a cracked board.
Just eBay it and get yourself a Sapphire or the Samsung when it comes out. Both superior to the Dream at this point.
well, im going to open it and check the connections, haven't received the phone as of yet. So im hoping its just a connection problem. Then ill fix the screen and e-bay it if the sapphire is better. What samsung? problem is, theil be couple hundred £ lol

Just your opinion. Neither of those phones have a hard keyboard.
the htc magic (sapphire) is basically the same as the dream but with an on-screen keyboard... and with a new firmware update i can get the best of both worlds with an on-screen keyboard and a slide out one. which is exactly what ive been looking for!
So yeah, back on topic, anyone know where i can get a replacement glass for the screen (or whatever i need, its only the glass that's broken, touch screen and image is perfect) and also there is no signal on the phone, so im guessing it could be the antenna, but im not sure yet. I definitely need the glass replaced on the screen though

Why bump for him, if he just had looked over the Dream sub forums he would have seen this thread in the general Dream section.
With that knowledge searching becomes a lot easier
sorry, dont mean to sound rude, but i have seen this thread and i have bought a digitizer for the screen, should arrive tomorrow. My problem is the fact that i have no signal and the GPS does not work, so i dont know if it is a problem with the antenna's or wether its something else... How could i test them? without buying another g1. I dont want to commit to buying a new antenna only to find out that it was actually a problem with the main board or something. And ebfore anyone says anything both the antenna cables are connected on BOTH sides.
can't FU**ING believe it...just dropped my phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Result = phone works, but screen is SMASHED, in a big way!!!
ARRGHHHHH....can't belive it.
Had it in a nice protector as well - it hit the concrete, protector came off, split in 3 bits and screen totally wiped out, smashed....gutted.
I'm on orange contract, didn't pay for any extra insurance, but only had the phone for just under 3 months....will i be able to get it replaced for free????
If not, can someone please, pretty please recommend a good site etc on where I can buy a new screen?>??
do I buy just the screen or have to buy other bits??
any help would be sooooo much appreciated.
thnaks
Matt
Grim!
I would not recommend you buying a screen and installing it your self, not unless your very handy, but this will void your warranty.
I would send it to HTC service centre (have a look on the web) and get it repaired professionally.
It will cost you around 150 quid but will still be warrantied.
I dropped mine, screen was fine but the underneath didnt work.
Sent it to the repair center, may cost like 100-150 but I know it will be done properly
im not claiming to have any experience fittin a hd2 screen, but i have fitted a lg cookie lcd screen replacement when i dropped my old phone, and its easier to replace than you might think.
In the lg cookie (touch screen as well) it is a bit trickey, but as long as you write down where the cables went, (there was about 3) then its just a simple case of re-connecting the ribbon cable to the screen.
Not as hard as you might think, just open it up and have a look.
Yes the warrenty might void, but how often do phones just decide to break on there own anyway??
http://www.xvillage999.com/product_info.php?language=en¤cy=GBP&products_id=3460
seems decent, somes with a pry tool and the correct screwdriver to get it open.
Just make sure you dont get any dust on it when your fitting it! lol
Just in case if you want to repair it yourself, look at the assembling and disassembling training video from HTC.
You can find them here at least you will know which tools to use and which order has to be followed.
and here you can download the complete service manual
Update = my House insurance is paying for a brand new phone..hehehe.
Well, not yet, but got a nice cheque off them for £450.
WAS tempted to look at the HTC Desire...but..NAHH...just can't resist the HD2.
Or should I wait for the HD3>????
what would you do??
cheers
