Nothing can do, if the registry already corrupted.
to avoid this, backup ur registry using registry application so you can restore it later.

Hi There,
if the device cannot boot into the OS, so the problems not only the registry but also the OS itself. you can do anything to solve it beside reflash it....or hard reset ... and everything will be gone....

My Prophet ran out of battery today, and switched itself off. It now refuses to accept the PIN that I've had set, even without a SIM. I've heard that this is a known bug.
I have backups of most of the important data, but before I go hard-reset the phone, is there a workaround?
First ... we cant tell any thing ... if we doesnt know what OS you have!
The most Reset/Reboot Problems are ... setup your device and switch your Prophet off and on!! This is importent for unloading the registry hives back to the flash rom!!!
If you doesnt do this after config ... you can lost all settings you have done.
Oops, apologies - it's late and I'm tired.
I'm using WM6 from PDAViet's ROM version 4.0.0.0.2.
I've reset the phone using the reset button, and also pulled the battery out, but it refuses any PIN that I enter.
Assuming the PIN is stored on the device somewhere, is it possible to back up the whole device to SD card, edit the backup to set the PIN to something I know, and restore? Or is there another way?

It's a common problem on ALL wm6 roms. I think I've seen a program out there dumps all the reg and settings to a file let u pick how long u need to change battery. then after wards it will restore these settings. Do a search on battery change or something like that.
Hello,
I've still installed my original ROM. But I want to upgrade to a WM6.1 version. Prior I want to backup my ROM so that I can go back every time. Actual my device is CID locked. So "r2sd" didn't work.
Is there any possibility (without charge) to backup my ROM?
E.g. I remember there a program called "grab it ...". This program is installed on a SD card and dumps the ROM to dump.bin on this SD card. But I've no idea if this backup is good enough and how to restore.
Possibly there are also other ways...

What brand is your device?
The ROM for it may already be available on the Wiki.
grab_it needs the ROM to be rebuilt to allow flashing, although if you upload the dump.bin file, I'll be happy to give the rebuilding a shot for your (for free of course!).
Alternatively, you can apply Hard/Soft SPL prior to using R2SD.
I did see an alternative method somewhere (specifically for Prophet) although I can't remember where!

I have a T-Mobile TC 500. Unfortunatelly there is no ROM in the Wiki (because this brand is very rare). Maybe if I can successful backup this ROM I would publish this here in the Wiki...

Hard/SoftSPL allow bypassing of the CID checks, so it could work.

The dump.bin file you get can be edited using ROM tools.
Looks like I found an alternative!
aWizard! It works fine to backup the ROM on my Prophet, and with a bit of playing around, the dump can be flashed back to the device!

I'll try SoftSPL at first.

aWizard is an alternative. Thanks. If the Hard/SoftSPL will not work I'll try aWizard also.
Finally I could get the ROM using grab_it. I hope somebody will help me cooking a "flashable" ROM from dump.bin if this is needed.
Mainly I want to have a chance to go back to the original ROM if the new ROM doesn't work. So maybe I'll never use the backup...

With SoftSPL it seems to work. After running SoftSPL I was able to connect via MTTY and run "r2sd all". This command has done something. No idea, if this was correct...

Restart the device, and see if it prompts you to load the ROM from the SD card.
If I restart to the 3-color-screen a question comes up to load the image from sd card. Great.
restore works?

Hi Joline!
I'm in the same situation! I also wanted to backup my original ROM (HUN) because of warranty since I haven't found it next to the downloadable original ROMs.
I did the same as you! I also got it dumped and the bootloader offered me to restore too. BUT I haven't tried to start the restore because I found on the net somewhere that a guy did the same and the restore was unsuccessful!
Therfor I'd like to be sure that the dumped ROM is OK before I start the restore.
Do you know how to verify the dumped ROM?
Did you try to restore it? Was it succesful?
I'm really interested in what you found out!
Maybe l3v5y can help us too!?

Your best bet is to try and restore the backup, and if it goes wrong, you should get stuck in bootloader, at which point you'll have to flash a new ROM. You can dump the devices ROM to your computer (using pdocread, or the easier to use aWizard tool), which will allow you to reconstruct and reflash the ROM.
i tried this and now have absolutely no volume at all. how do i fix it?

You need to overwrite the Audiopara file. Depending on your ROM version. This one works witht he 3.x ROMS.

Try to uninstall. I wont update the other post. Let it die.
Look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2921321
One poster submits that you should be able to delete the file and revert back but not sure that will help.
Can't you just uninstall the cab? You go Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs > Audiopara or whatever it is called and then soft reset just to be sure.

Ok hold on.....
If you must do a hard reset then download SPB Back up. It comes with a free trial that lets you run it 5 times... http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en I would back everything up first. But thats entirely up to you. If you do restore then remember to grab a copy of the original audiopara from windows first. Its a hidden file. You will have to select "Show all files" to be able to see it. Copy it to your memory card then replace it after the restore. you will be as good as new.
Also, whatever you decide to do can you please post the audiopara file? You can then mod the title of the thread to read something liek Original 2.x Audiopara here. If you were kind enough to do that we would have an easy reference for the next person that my fall prey to this issue.
Eitherway, good luck.
did the hard reset already.. and backed up everything on memory card. but maybe now you can direct me to how to edit the cache to speed up the phone
Perhaps you should read a whole bunch before diving in head first!
There are many tweaks thaat supposedly speed things up. What some of them really do is change caches for different things, like page rendering and temp files and buffering, etc...
there are many threads out there, but I hesitate to post some of them if you are just going to edit, then hard reset and ask whats wrong. Not trying to be a jerk, but messing with the registry can harm your device. Best to do some research first.
try HERE to do some reading.
I use an LG Exceed 2 and like a month ago I went into superuser and deleted some android files which came with the system, I factory reset it and now it says "Unfortunately, LGSetupWizard has stopped." Is there a way I could recover those files at all? I went into Safe Mode and it said the same thing! Please help!
You will have to refresh the stock software.

You need to either reflash the system, or find TWRP flashable zip of your current OS, extract it and copy the items you deleted. Or you can try editing build.prop and change "ro.setupwizard.mode" value to "DISABLED". It might work after reboot

maybe u deleted the setup files that we use after booting a new rom or killed the launcher.
Just copy the files u deleted by recovery or reflash ur built in rom.

do u have ur stock rom?
if yes..
Then..
1)extract your rom with any archiver software.
ex-winrar,zarchiver
for pc - winzip etc
(pro version recommended)
There's an app called setup wizard.
(it depends on your rom.
On samsung stock its samsung setup wizard, on cm its cyanogenmod setup wiz)
U will see something like that on your
rom/system/app or priv-app/here
copy that one to ur phone's root/system/app or priv-app
exactly where its located on ur stock rom.
(u need a root explorer software to put that in ur system)
Easiest way is find ur stock rom and flash it.
If u r new to this things, get help from somebody who knows.
I have a silly problem, I had freshly installed the unofficial CM14.x and between all the new settings forgot the Lockscreen pattern. Since i didn't want to try factory reset and other solutions without data loss didn't wird, I searched a bit and erasted the /data/system/gatekeeper.pattern.key via ADB ! It actually helped passing through lockscreen, but now I can't set any new lock (none of the options tough) / I can't go to the option… I get dropped out with an error…

Chill.
You able to access your files and data?
Just open settings and change the screen lock to "none" or "swipe", then select pin/password and set your own.
It should fix it.
If it doesnt then make a backup of your data and clean flash stock rom by wiping system, cache and data (not internal sd).

Says right in the in original post that he can't set any new lock with any of the options, it just crashes. I think he's got not choice but a re-flash.
As @Tanner1294 noticed. I can't change the locksreen options anymore and that's the problem (I can't use the device without lock! But I wouldn't)
backing up data may work or maybe not, because the missing files could be under data… But I'll give it a try.
I don't know why I couldn't replace the screen password via Google Device Manager… The device was recognised and the pass and message has been sent to it, but i couldn't interact with it at all! only "emergency call" was touchable If it's an issue in Android 7.x or CM14.x dunnow
Maybe dirty flashing the ROM again will help

Make a backup of contacts, sms, apps(or just download from playstore) or use titanium backup if you want app data also.
And clean flash rom.
Forget everything and clean flash after making backup.
That file is related to system and has to be present in /data/system/ so will remain excluded from backups you make.
Make sure you clean flash rom.

If I only knew how I can re-install my selection of apps straightforward, I wouldn't hesitate about clean flash; I don't worry about my files, contacts etc.
I'll try to figure out, how Titanium Backup works… Thanks for advice
The problem is now solved without reflashing etc.
I just had to know which other files need to be removed in addition to /data/system/gatekeeper.pattern.key
they were locksettings.db locksettings.db-wal locksettings.db-shm from the same directory!
So i removed them, whatever they may contain
then rebooted to system and everything was on the rail, i could pick a lockscreen method again.
PS: I haven't imagined that havong debugging mode enabled could make an Android system so unsecure though!

Titanium backup is godly makes transitioning between ROMs a breeze like you never left your setup. In TB app top right corner is a blank page with check mark on it. In there you can backup/restore large chunks of apps and data. After a fresh install rooted first thing install is TB and got to that section restore and choose what you want from backup. System apps can be backup also but will find some won't work on other ROMs. Regular apps will have no such issues. There is also TB sms backup. To use that you must set TB as default sms app. Restore sms then revert back to regular sms app and open. There all your messages will be restored.

You shouldn't delete " /data/system/gatekeeper.pattern.key" as "locksettings.db locksettings.db-wal locksettings.db-shm" contain your lock screen pattern. So to remove pattern just delete these files. Android device manager won't work if it reads that your device has already a pattern/PIN enabled. I guess it worked a while ago on password protected devices as well but not anymore.
