IN the windows folder on my touch dual, there is a certain file, which I want to modify. However, this file is read-only. I've installed total commander on my device (the latest beta version, but also tried it with a previous non beta version) to change the read-only attribute. but without any result. I also tried it with SPB pocket plus 4. I'va also tried to change the attribute with altap salamander from my pc, but somehow the file is still not writable. Am I the only one with this problem and is there a sollution to fix this?
the file I'm trying to modify is HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml, in which the cities are listed that will be used in the weather plugin on the today screen.

As I mentioned above, I've tried it with total commander and failed. Tonight, I've tried it with resco Explorer and at first I failed to find the file. I seemed to be hidden. When I found the option in Resco to unhide hidden files, the file showed up. And again, I can't remove the read only attribute with resco explorer. In resco there's also an attribute rom checked, which I haven't seen before in any other program. I can't uncheck it. Might that be a problem? I hope someone can help me out here, for the "normal" touch, it was possible to just uncheck the read-only attribute.

U want modify HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml right ???
Just copy it to your computer.Modify as u want in PC.Go to Windows Folder use Resco explorer unhide HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml original in your phone and copy HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml change to it.
Good luck
I can't overwrite it, since it's read-only. Which attribute I can't remove somehow.
yeah ive experienced this also!cant seem to overwrite the files in windows folder.dont know of a solution though!
After a few attempts, I succeeded in copying a modified H_0409_WeatherCities.xml over the original with reco explorer. So now I only have dutch cities in the list for the weather plugin. THe only thing is, that the cities I added my self (Delft and Nootdorp) are not working somehow. Does any one know if other cities, that are not in the default list are blocked by any party? (HTC or accuweather.com?)
Try this
Get the file off the device.
Modify it,
Run enableRAPI to give yourself manager role (A belive this is what it does, it has all the same effects as manager role)
Then copy the file back.
The problem is that you are not on a high enough teir in the security setup of the device.
This is why DM servers such as intellisync can overwrite any file it wants, as it automatically assume OEM role.

I found Total Command(er) on the Gishler website.
The latest updates are from June 21, 2005 . This seems rather old.
Is this the wrong program or have the programmers done such a good job, no updates were needed since then?

The latest update I see is from April 2008, just FYI. It works fine on my HTC Touch Diamond, anyway.

how to make file "read only" on dopod u1000, i want to make certain files read only to save them from accidental deleation, so can anybody help me
I am looking for the file explorer.exe that allows you to delete files from the rom. It was posted awhile back and I just recently lost due to a HDD crash. I believe is was included in one of the old WM5 roms but was also posted as a download also. I used to drag it to the Windows Directory and actually overwrite the built in explorer. I have searched and searched and cannot find it. Can someone please help....
Thanks
try resco explorer, it lets you overwrite the rom BUT it is a commercial program and requires registration. I believe a trial version is available.
Thanks I own that also. But the one I was referring to was created by someone on here. I thought it was Dr. Putt but I could be wrong. I just dragged the file over to the windows directory and it overwrote the windows file explorer. I have to keep looking. But that you for the response.....
Rob
I also only use Resco, but I recall hearing that TotalCommander could do what you're looking for. Not sure if TC is free or commercial, just chiming in...
if you dont want the original file explorer, why dont you just delete the .ink file out of startmenu? this will remove the old explorer icon from programs menu.
It's not that I don't like it there. The version I am refering to actually let you delete things stored in the rom. With resco thanks for all your suggestions though!
If you do run across it drop me a line....
Thanks
i downloaded a bunch of themes and cracks but i dont know how to put them when they are in manilla form where do i place those files?
you copy manila files to the windows folder using total commander. you cannot use file explorer.
failed to install.

I installed v 2.51 on my S740 but runs slowly ...so i use resco explorer because looks and works much better.
that is strange. I've been using total commander for a long time, 2.51 works just fine on my s743 and s710.
maybe was a software conflict in my device ...or anything else, I don't know ...
resco can't help with replacing files in Windows-Folder on the S740
total commander from the webpage mentioned doesn't work at all. doesn't install in the first place ...
just downloaded the cab and installed no problem on s743. did you download exe or the cab? exe you install from a pc, the cab you install from a device.

It can, but it depends on the file you want to replace, because some files are cooked in as modules - you can't replace those...
Does anyone have a cab for File Explorer that comes with the hd2 as mine seems to have disappeared off my phone.
