WM6 update to rw6815 fails (SD card method). Why? - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom Software Upgrading

I tried SD mini card method but no success:
1. Formatted SD card using my PC SD Card reader
2. Copied file diskimg.nb0 to the mini SD card (skipped \Cabs for a while)
3. Put mini SD card to device
4. Rebooted device in bootloader mode
5. Bootloader mode starts - HP Logo displayed for a few minutes
6. After some delay device boots to WM5 - no flashing process starts
SD card is Kingston 1 GB (formatted both in FAT16 16KB sectors and FAT32). Tried to format SD card in my PC as well as FlashFormat from the device.
Still no success.
What am I doing wrong?
What to try next?

Try another card : 128 - 256 MB
Remember the diskimg.nb0 must be cut 12 bytes other wise your device will not hardreset.

diskimg.nb0 comes from pda-hack and is fine according to many other users (it does not require any modifications).
The problem seems to be mini SD card, I'll try another one but it's going to be tough to find anything smaller than 1 GB nowadays.

I`ve updated using 256MB Memory Card.

Worked fine with 128 MB mini SD card!
Important news for those who want to upgrade.

Use Transcend... Up to 1Gb

512 Billionton SD card not being recognised

I just got a 512 Sd card and my XDA doesn't recognise it.
I also have a 256 card which works fine.
I am thinking maybe I need to flash the ROM but am a little scared of doing so.
The card is working in other devices.
TIA
Jamie
Same result here. Anybody know what's wrong?
does a flash reader for pc work with the sd ?
format as fat16 or fat32 ?
The Billionton 512mb SD card works fine everywhere else (my desktop, laptops, camera, ipaq 1940 pda, eten p300 pocketpc phone).
re: "does a flash reader for pc work with the sd ? format as fat16 or fat32 ?"
hey mate,
normally i reformat my 512 sd card via the sd-card reader (usb) through my laptop. i once formatted using fat16 and fat 32; i found out that the sd card's memory seemd to be restricted; i could only save files or use up to 300-plus mb. i then tried formatting using the ntfs format and my xda2 didn't recognize the card. i then tried using FAT format and the memory usage went up to 480-plus. i use sandisk by the way, not sure if this is the same as the sd card you have. but i do know that you can't use the entire 512 mb; something to do with the security or the card's internal program to retain files.
2 cents worth
robson
have you tried using one of these via XDA ??
http://www.cnetx.com/Format/download.asp
or
StorageTools frmo there
http://www.softwinter.com/download.html
it shall do the job, i.e. recover your SD card
regards, monika

There is no FAT32 option when formatting, only FAT and NTFS.

What can I do? I want to flash my radio through my SD card because I don't want to lose my stuff, but when I go to format, I only have NTFS and FAT. If I do FAT, is it automatically FAT32?

Format this way:
Flashing a phone with a micro SD card
1. With a card reader on your PC, format a non-SDHC (<=2GB) microSD card into FAT32 (tested to work up to a 4KB cluster size)
(the default size for a 1 GB would not work, also if it takes only a few seconds to format
try formating with some other slot/device. A 1 GB took over a minute to format correctly)
To format your Card - Open a DOS box and type/copy and paste this: ( format ?: /FS:FAT32 /A:1024 )
Replace the ? with whatever your SD cards drive letter is... ie: f, h, I.... Mine is G....
2. Copy the ROM to flash (xxxxxxxx.nbh) to the root of the microSD
3. Rename the ROM xxxxxxx.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
4. Insert your card.
5. Force into the boot loader with POWER-CAMERA-RESET
6. Follow the instructions and you'll quickly flash your Titan...
7. You may have to soft reset once it says the update is complete
(If you are using UC let the customizations run so it will read the SDConfig.txt file)
Taken directly from the wiki which you can find here.
Run this utility from HP. It is free and works wonders.
Copy
thats a pretty neat tool, do you know offhand if it can format a drive larger than 32gb as FAT32? windows doesnt like to

SD card not working help ?

i have old gene and i use wm6.1 and everything is ok
but suddonly become the sd card unreadable and always ask me to format it
and when i format it i cant see it in explorer
and that massage appare when i put the sd card
(Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable? This will permantly delete any files on the card.
and i select yes
then said
This storage card has been successfully formatted.
but when i go to file explorer
it is not there
by the way my sd card is 2 Gb
Try to format the card on a card reader. If the problem persists, then try another card.
Two possibilities : Either the formatting utility in your rom is not formatting it properly, in that case, format it using a Card Reader as ramerson said, OR The card is probably getting bad due to a bad system area. Its not properly retaining the file system structures created during formatting process and the phone cannot work with this corrupted filessytem.
i tried and use another sd card with deffrent sd card size and i have the same proplem and i use wm6.5 and also the same and wm6.1
I think there must be problem with your phone if it is refusing different cards on different ROMs.
@smb: While some of builds of Wm6.5 have issues with SD card, but such instances are not reported with wm6.1 ?
BTW have you tried to format your card (FAT32) using card reader.
@techmate : Buddy for general use in phone Fat32 is a bad format. It slows down the speed of file access to pathetic levels due to its very small default cluster size of 4096 bytes, or 4 KB. Fat16 is the recommended format for windows mobile, and most other mobile phones.

can not format 32GB micro sdhc card

Hi,
I first tried to format my new 32GB sandisc micro sdhc card with my computer. That didn't work.
Then I tried to format it with my phone.
Settings > All Settings> System > Format SD Card.
When I press Format, the fotmatting starts (storage size: 30436,50 MB, Cluster Siz: 32 KB)... but at 38% I get the message: "Incomplete. Formatting was not completed due to unexpected removal of the storage card. The storage card could be damaged."
Of course I did not remove the card.
This happens everytime I try to format.
Does anyone have an idea what is cousing the failure.
Happy newyear !
Have you tried fomatting the card in another PC and/or card reader?
is it a cheap ebay knock off?
I have tried to format it in de built-in card reader of my dell xps laptop... and also with a sandisc micromate sdhc cardreader.
I bought the card at redcoon (75 EUR).

microSD CARD partitioning causes problems?!!

I have used partitions on my old rooted phone where I thought the sd card had crashed because of partitioning it. Now I have removed the partition and I am still getting problems. Then I formatted my whole micro sd card using windows. Whenever I insert my sd card into windows via my phone, it asks me to format it.
Why has micro sd partitioning wrecked my sd card???!!

I am also getting the bad zip file error on android! I am beginning to believe that partitioning has destroyed my sd card permanently!
