I have been trying to use a dual sim adaptor with Athena but would not boot with it on. Anybody had any success? It will be great for me to be able to use both 3 and standard without removing the sim. it is a pain to remove it on Athena as this is under battery and sometimes needs a flat screwdriver to remove it...

Do you mean dual SIM or dual SD?
Dual sim of course not dual SD
Well, i've got an old DualSIM adaptor (anlog) which worked fine on my Himalaya.
My Athena boots without problems when i use this adaptor, but it takes me 3 or 4 restarts of the phone to get the DualSIM adaptor changin the SIM.
But i guess i have some issues with my SIMCards, they really look screwed up, makes me wonder why they work anyway
Maybe a newer Radio could have an impact on this Issue too.
Right now i use Radio 1.50 and AP Dual PK3.
If your SIMCards are screwed up the Athena won't boot, also my SIMAdaptor needs both SIMCards entered. With only one SIMCard in it, the Athena won't boot.
BTW: SIMDisplay (can be found on sourceforge.net) is the perfect Todayscreen Plugin for Displaying the active SIM.
I have one running but ...
finally I obtained a Simore dual sim working. But my problem is due I have one line for voice and other one for data, if should be possible to have some mechanism that in base to which sim is activated obtaining working the data connection or not. Do you know if it is possible?
Hi Beginner. Could you please post the model info of the Simore dual SIM you found worked with Athena? I'm currently looking for one. Thanks.

The Connection Setup Wizard will detect the network that you've just switched to and offer to set your data connection to match it. It'll do that every time the network changes.
If you're looking to buy a SIMore dual SIM adapter for the Athena, DON'T. The SIMore dual SIM won't let you connect to WCDMA network so you won't be able to use HSDPA or 3G!!!! I bought one from them and in the process of getting an RMA to return this piece of junk back to them now. Their online ad is fraudulent when they say it's 3G compatible. It is not. It only let you connect to GSM which only offers up to EDGE.
Is there any dual SIM adapter that will let you connect at 3G speeds out there?
PS: If you're only using EDGE at the moment and don't think you will ever never for the rest of your life upgrading to HSDPA, then by all means, flush your money down the toilet and buy this expensive piece of junk.
Thanks for the warning. Thought it was useful to have.
no dual sim
shame there is none yet. it will be great to have a truely dual phone. Networks will hate it
I think it could be posible but not easy to create a soft sim somehow. instead of having to change my three.co.uk hdspa compat sim between Athena (why the hack they do not do the sim reader as a slot accessible without removing battery) and my mac laptop is a nightmare. I tried to use Wifirouter, but it crashes athena quite often.

Under the factory ROM I never had it crash, even with hours of use at one time. I haven't used it under AP4 yet. Maybe you have a conflict with another program?
not installed anything apart tomtom 6 legal

Iam not sure what are you explaining.
are you using a dual sim system?
does it works? which is it?
thanks.
i tried using few none worked. I find very difficult in swaping sims without the add o a flat screwdriver, also removing battery is not fun.
I am wondering if it will be possible in developing a virtual sim card that will copy the info from our sim card allowing the phone to work with it?
Hi,
I am wondering that is it possible to do sim unlock for Japanese Motorola Photon (Au-Kddi)?
I am looking for free option (I know that by paying for unlock code, we can do it)
I want following:
I am having Motorola Photon (Japanese version simlock) and I want to use it in India (GSM carrier)
Please help to unlock sim( without paying any money.)
Looking forward to hear from experts.
Thanks.
If you are using your phone outside of the United States you should already be sim unlocked.

Thanks John for your kind reply.
I purchased motorola photon in JAPAN. When I got photon, it was without sim card (carrier Au-Kddi CDMA).
So, I am not sure even it is sim lock or not. (but I think that it must be locked version)
I am planning to use it in India (not in US)
Could you confirm following:
(1) Do I need to unlock it to use it in India with GSM operator?
Looking forward to see your positive response.
Thanks.
As far as I know, the sim lock only applies to US carriers. But, if you're able, try putting a prepaid sim card, or one from a friend's phone in your device and see. You may have to go into settings to take it off of cdma only. I think that if your phone works with any sim card at all, that you'll be able to use it in India. Good luck!

John, your Japanese is good. I am really impressed!!!
As you know that in Japan all cellular service providers are CDMA. So, for me it is difficult to check with GSM sim (because I dont have any GSM sim for testing )
Further more according to my understanding, in Japan all phones come with sim lock. i.e. if I am user of 'Au-Kddi' then I cannot use same hand set with 'Softbank'. (I guess that it is same case as US)
May you provide me some other work around to make sure that photon will work with any GSM provider?

I checked your suggestion. I have attached screen shot. (Pl see attachment)
I got four options as following
(1) KDDI only -> it is my current CDMA service provider
(2) Any CDMA -> I tried this option and inserted another service provider CDMA sim card but after booting, phone is asking for unlock code. if I will choose dismiss button then it will not allow to use phone. (Only SoS service is available)
(3) Any GSM/UMTS -> It gives error that insert sim card. current phone donot have any sim card and if i will insert card then situation becomes same as above mentioned case 2. (Only SoS calls)
(4) Automatic -> same as case3.
My question:
Currently, I dont have GSM sim card. So, I want to try option 2. I want to try another service provider(CDMA) sim card
Please let me know how to solve this problem?
Thanks

Hi,
Can anybody help on this?
Thanks.
My Vodafone India 3G sim worked in Japan on both Softbank and NTT Docomo UMTS/3G networks. I was able to receive and Make Calls, send and receive SMS and used 3G Data. My two weeks visit was in Feb 2012.

CDMA doesn't use SIM cards... or do they in Japan? only GSM uses sim cards. you will need a GSM sim to test GSM. no way around it with the stock OS that i'm aware of. so buy a GSM sim.
Hello Brothers,
I got Ainol Poseidon AX1 tablet from some seller on Aliexpress. I wanted to set this up as my Car entertainment system.
Was very happy with the overall performance of this Tablet until i connected a CDMA/GSM SIM Card.
I never used a CDMA SIM card and have not tested it with either GSM SIM card upon receiving this tablet.
This tablet does not detect any SIM card. Used Airtel GSM SIM, Tata Docomo CDMA SIM in India, Hyderabad and nothing works.
Contacted seller who is from China and he says that AINOL does not detect SIM cards provided by Telecommunications company(GOD KNOW WHAT HE MEANT BY THAT). Wondering who else can provide a SIM card.
- Tried factory reset - no luck
- CDMA sim card of other providers too - nothing worked.
Is any one using Ainol Numy/Poseidon AX1 3G Tablet in India? Do you use any SIM card for it?
I request forum members to please help me out in getting this thing working.
Thanks in advance.

Santosh Keerthi

Hello
A friend solved the problem?
Solved for me
I had that problem with my tablet.
In my case, i'm using a sim card from an operator using 1900Mhz for 3G, so i have to use gsm.
The tablet connects for a few seconds and then disconnects, with a sim error. After a while, it connects again and disconnects,....
I guess that the problem is the tablet trying to connect to the 3g network, then , as it don't work, it disconnects.
Using Mobileuncle Tools, go to engineer mode-> engineer mtk ->telephony-> sim1/sim2 and select the bands you want to use (the ones supported for the tablet).
Then , in telephony->network selecting you can choose gsm/wcdma, gsm only,...
As the 3G band from my operator is not supported in this tablet, i set gsm only and it's working fine.
I'll try a sim from other operator with a supported 3g band and i'll tell you if it's working with 3g or not.
Final Solution
If your problem is not the band in USA (Ainol AX1 works with 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and 3G: WCDMA 850/2100MHz) and you get "Invalid IMEI" try this:
1. You need a couple of old useless but clean (not blocked by IMEI, not stolen) GSM cell phones
2. Write down IMEI numbers of the old phones (typing *#06# or watching under battery)
3. In Ainol AX1, write *#*#3646633#*#* in dialer. You will see a new menu. Goto connectivity > CDS Information > Phone 1 > write AT+EGMR=1,7,"1ST_IMEI_HERE" > send AT command after completion message reboot your phablet and repeat for phone 2 but with command AT+EGMR=1,10,"2ND_IMEI_HERE".
4. Voila! You have the power

I face the same problem. Running with the original ROM both GSM and WCDMA sim cards were reset frequently. I had to switch to flight mode and back to make them seek for mobile network and connect again for sometime.
I flashed Ainol Numy AX1 2013.10.20 V1 2 GB Rom CWM Recovery hoping to solve the issue but no luck. Now are almost all the time with no signal. After flashing, IMEIs were kept the same. After first boot tablet was connected very quickly and that was all. 3G connection is mandatory for daily use. It was the reason to buy this tablet.
Has anyone tried different valid IMEIs ? Does this trick work? .
I got same problem but it is only sometimes, no frequently. It is not significant. I installed this ROM

Since i had this problem making 3G/2G useless i finally replaced the IMEI of sim2 with the IMEI of an old forgotten sonyericsson phone, and voila everything goes perfect now !! No resets and dramatically increased signal strength.
The only explanation i can give (i am not an expert) is that there was an IMEI identification issue with the carrier.
I noticed that if you type *#*#4636#*#* you get a testing screen under phone info you can select your radio type if i change it to CDMA will a verizon sim card work????????????

Atrix 4G is not a CDMA phone, only GSM.
Also, if you select CDMA the app will crash.

did alittle research and atrix 4g radio is capable of CDMA but all CDMA networks do IMEI filtering there is also a block on turning CDMA on it says sim doesnt allow it so i was wondering if a verizon sim would allow it but doesnt matter if the network boots the phone off anyway so either way its a no go unless someone wants to hack data base on magor networks which isnt worth it and im sure verizon wouldn't be very happy with you as a customer if you did that.
To my knowkedge Verizon uses SIM cards for LTE only, it has nothing to do with normal voice/text operation of the phone.

Hi
I got a verizon note 2, and can't figure out what I need to do to get 3g data to work.
I'm on the nebula rom, vruemj9 baseband. I'm thinking I need to enable nv only somehow and disable ruim but not sure what I need to do.
I flashed nv only in dfs. In fact I'm writing this post with the exact same dfs flash but its on a s3 so I believe my dfs flash in not off to far.
Do I need to mod build prop, use qpst, cdmaws ?
I would like to get rid of the insert sim message which is probably half the problem, maybe the device thinks its not provisioned.

just my 2 cent, i think, it still need a sim card to be able to get the 3G, even if you set nv only. same cases like note 2 us cellular, galaxy nexus etc
just pop the verizon 4g sim card.

well i never been dealing with us cdma carriers, but in my experience (flash a note 2 us cellular, galaxy nexus etc) with my country cdma carriers (indonesia) it work with every sim card i plug in, from original manufacture sim card (verizon / us cellular) to my local sim card.
