Is anyone else having problems with Windows Media Player?
I'm using the WWE ROM and every single file I've tried to open on WindowsMedia.com, and any Youtube videos I try to view via Orb give me the error dialogue: "This protected file type is not supported on this device, and will not be downloaded".
Worked fine on the old AKU2 ROM though. Oh, and CorePlayer doesn't help either.
Anyone know of codecs or certificates that I can install to get this working?
ME 2..!
I'm using the TEST 3.3 ROM and I'm receiving the same error message.
I hate to say it, but at least I'm not alone.
Ok, at least it isn't just me. Serves me right for trying a test ROM when I swore I wouldn't...
Couldn't help myself though!
Think I'll downgrade until a proper AKU3.3 ROM comes along.
Same here.....
In some ROM's it appears that the HTC streaming media player is included and not the standard WMP10, it's the streaming media player that generates the protected media not supported message in my experience.
First of all let me thank EVERYONE who contributed to this site. I'm new to the Hermes world and everything I needed to know on how to flash my phone was documented in a very easy to understand way. My cingular 8525 is now running the cooked WMXL 0.20 relase with an upgraded radio from 1.16 to 1.35.00.11. I couldn't be happier.
One thing i've always wondered about my device is when I go to a site like www.pocketpcmedia.com half the time i try and stream a video i get a blank screen and can only hear sound. Maybe if i stop and start the video a few times i'll finally be able to actually see it. What gives? Upgrading to WMXL didn't seem to fix this problem.
What does the Streaming Media program do in WMXL?
Thanks

Please do a search on streaming video and you will get this post

The issue with no video but only audio seems to occur when the videobitrate of the videostream is too high to be handled by wmp.
For pocketpcmedia you should try to select to "low" bitrate stream (but these sometimes also have a videobitrate wich is too high)
Do you have any examples for streams where this happens?
The streaming media Program is used for streaming in 3gp format. You can for example select the "3gp" streaming format in Orb. Then when you select a videostream in Orb you will see the streaming media program starting.
Just uploaded the files from ExtROM from 3 Sweden which is for making everything working on the 3 portal, streaming audio, video etc. Have just tested streaming audio and it works a treat, listening to P3 Star while writing this.
I just installed this ExtROM .exe file from 3 on top of Black 4, unlocked ExtROM and clicked the Autorun file which installs everything.
The ExtROM is supposed to be installed on the ROM: 2.11.263.1, so I'm not sure that everything like DRM protected downloaded music will work when installed on top of a VM6 rom.
Let me know how it works for you.
Tested to play a song I downloaded from the Portal earlier but it still will not play... I wonder where DRM information is stored and what files are needed to get this to work?
Ps. it messes up the dialer when installed on top of Shadow, I just used it as test, since I was going to change rom anyhow.
Hi!
Thanks for uploading the cabs from 3's portal. I just made a hard reset on Shadow, installed the 3 package and instantly after that I installed the JJ's video dialer and it fixed the problem with screwing up the dialer. Of course I don't get that fancy big-button dialer but I need video so..
By the way, do you know if we "miss" anything from just installing this? Is there any difference between installing the package and buying a completely branded phone from 3 except from provider lock? The reason why I ask is that I find the 3Portal being really slow when surfing it with IE (pages takes up to a minute to load time to time) but streaming audio and video works perfect.
Hi Friends:
I tried to watch youtube's videos and my IE and Opera 9.5 Build 1660 with HTC Streaming Media 2.10 (Build 518.700) didn't work (Failed to find network)
Can you share with me your experiences with IE and Opera to watch youtube's videos?
Do I need to install YouTubePlay 1.0.0.7?
Thanks

CorePlayer
I paid $25 or $30 for CorePlayer. It comes with a YouTube button that makes the who YouTube access painless. The only problem is that when I press the Fullscreen button, the screen goes dark (as sound continues) or the XV6800 locks up and needs a soft reset. So I'm stuck watching video the size of a postage-stamp.
Oh, another drawback of CorePlayer: It sucks my battery dry...my 3600mAh Mugen battery.
I had looked forward to using Opera 9.5 beta to watch YouTube. But as soon as my homepage loads, I get an out-of-memory error. Of course, my homepage is iGoogle, which is full of Web 2.0-type rich-media.
could you help me ta get flashvideobundle to work my phone got updated to wm6.1 with opera I ain't got a clue I am new to all this its my first xda phone and I am clueless
So I have a somewhat large investment in LEGAL music I've downloaded from sprint over the past year or two. Its over $200 worth (song here and there ads up quick).
So I've never had a problem beforehand even when switching from my instinct to the TP. However I just flashed Energy ROM about a week ago (and LOVING IT!!!) however one thing I've noticed is NONE of my music will play.
I've put a few of the sprint OEM apps back onto the phone (NAV, Picture Mail) but obviously nothing to do with sprint music.
When trying to play the music on Manilla's player nothing happens. The album art shows up but no music. When trying to play in windows media player I get an error that says "A digital rights management (DRM) error has occured"
I'm assuming this has somethign to do with the ROM not being "sprint approved" or something seeing as how it worked on the factory ROM.
Any solution to this?
I've tried numerous other players (Nitrogen, IBM, Pocket Music) but they all come up with the same error.
What can I do?
Anybody have any clues? Short of removing the DRM (which I have yet to find a program not infested with viruses or spyware) is there a way to just have it check the sprint servers?

I have been experiencing this for 4 months. In all of my research I have found that the device certificate for DRM is not in 6.5 ROMS or it is not cooked in using the platform rebuilder kitchens everyone is using. I have talked to a many a chef and it seems it is a NO GO for DRM music.
Try Tunebite as it's your only option for songs you've purchased and can't listen to.
Due to incompatibilities with WM6.5, and even some of the newer WM6.1 builds, most chefs leave out the LockStreamDRM package from their ROMs. Without those files and registry entries, DRM playback is not possible.
this is what i could find, good luck. i believe its a Lockstream DRM issue as NATF mentioned.

btw the new energy rom 8/11 has this built in. just reflash potnah

Can you confirm that Energy's 8/11 ROM allows the syncing of DRM music files? i.e. Napster?
Well I'm now running the 8/11 build of the latest Energy ROM and it does not play the music.
sorry guys this was posted after i did...
August 11th 2009:
Afternoon version:
* Lockstream DRM taken out, causing problems with Sounds and Ringtones
* Opera changed to a newer version and cooked in
* TCPMP, a bunch of ringtones and some extra DLL's taken out to save space
* WorldCard Mobile removed from all ROMs (except Raphael)
* Completely reworked taskbar high resolution data icons by cmylxgo
Morning version:
* Fixed date picker control in portrait
* Updated to AudioManager 1.7 (Manila's Music Tab)
* Cooked in "working" landscape people tab fixes
* Added LockstreamDRM to the ROM for DRMed people
* Slight change to the initial flash screen
* New default black all backgrounds image in Manila
* Updated to Tachi Album 3.0 1914 Sys wheel enabled and smoother operation
* Added Sibor's patch to the SMS tab for better fit and finish in both potrait and landscape modes
Sorry guys.. I tried All lockstream DRM packages are old now as it seems HTC moved to "DiscretixDRM" in 6.5 builds. Unfortunately, that packages still doesnt allow DRM music to play, so I guess you guys are SOL on this one
NRGZ28 its okay we still wub you
Playing Napster Files
I have napster as well, but the ROM I am using plays my DRM files, but I have to jump through some hoops to get it to. I cant just simply copy over the MP3 files (because that would be way faster and way eaisier) so this is my plan of attack:
Download a tune from Napster to my HDD
Set up WMP to sync all music from my computer to my Storage card
This way all I do is download a tune from Napster and then plug in my Phone and voila! it syncs everything.
Unfortunatly, when flashing to a new rom (even just restoring) it blows away whatever local database that keeps track of the DRM, so if I try to play songs after that, it just sits at the track and does nothing. WMP will complain it does not have a license nor will it be able to aquire one if I try.
My solution is to blow away my music collection on my phone and retransfer through windows media player (which takes the better part of a day). The reason this takes so long is because Activsync likes to crap out randomly, so I have to restart the transfer.
Just my thoughts on the whole Napster/DRM....any comments?
Ah, its ok. I just wish I could find a damn program online to strip the DRM away. Everything so far appears to be a royal PITA.
What pisses me off is the whole DRM thing in general. I paid for that music, who are they to tell me what I can and can't do with it.
THIS is why I and others download music illegally. It WORKS!
I still love the ROM NRG... I threw you a donation today.

"They" are the RIAA. And they act as they do because starving artists cannot afford their solid gold Humvee.
