If you dont take advice or bother to read various threads about the procedure to flash back to "Standard Atom rom" from Exec rom, then you shall end up with a device that is good for only holding paper down when it is windy. here is a simple way to go back, first execute Standard Atom Rom (no need to have device connected) click next until you reach the "Welcome to device update utility", now go to Windows/Temp folder and copy everything EXCEPT! "Device Software Update Utility" and "ExtendedRom" now paste those files somewhere. Close the installer and execute "Exec rom" until you reach, "Welcome to device update utility", now copy and overwrite the files in Windows/Temp with the files you saved earlier.....continue with update procedure. After this proccess is complete disconnect your device and put it into bootloader, now plug in USB and flash with Standard Atom rom.
Dear homer285 :

First, remove battary out for half an hour to compleately drain power in atom
,then put in battery and press reset+camera to bootloader again
Tube216, your suggsted method does not work. My ATOM just reboot when I have removed the battery for 2 hours and plug it back, press camera and reset button and it just reset without going into the bootloader mode. I think the bootloader is damaged regardless of the battery. Do you have the bootloader program to be run in explorer?
the quastion :
Can I Re-Program the bootloader with normal PC?
if yes, Name the program
im facing another problem again...

and copy to memory card and put in 6828 then started to go bootloader screen

If you don't rename to eboot.nb0 => Your device didn't flash it => Your device not dead. Have another files in the root folder of miniSD card ? List for me!!!
--Try this way :
Press both softkeys (two "-" keys) and remove battery then insert battery again (don't unpress two softkeys) and softreset, wait 2-3 seconds. It'll go bootloader mode. You can flash your device again.
hmm, tried u way ad didt make it to boot screen..>.<

What is your current bootloader, 1.01 or 1.05 ?
If you follow that menthod but it didn't go to bootloader, your bootloader was dead.
You can send it to HP to repair, or try this way : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=DeadBoot
I recommend to sent it to HP.
while the PDA is still can open and bootloader screen
is 1.01
and im trying to use the EBOOT0502_MNT_01.01.03.nbf which found in the
HP official RUU PC flash ROM
and rename to EBOOT0502_MNT_01.01.03.nb0
then put in the root of memory card
then start to flash ..
now the PDA wouldn't reapond to any button HR, SR, soft-key + reset ...etc
only can charge and orange LED indicated

You was flash wrong bootloader due to make your device dead.
Now you need restore bootloader.
If you send to HP, they will replace board you must pay for it.
But you try the JTAG menthod to restore bootloader it'll make your warranty expired.
thx for all ur answer, i really appreeciated.
btw, for sure hp center will replace a board in it and that will be expensive rite?
if i sent to other shop which is not HP official service, will they do the same?
izzit juz flash using tools they hv>?
and expensive?
Here is what I did ... might help you
Hi
Make sure your phone is powered, it would be wise to charge the phone via AC power at least for 1-2 hours before you try to install anything.
I finally managed to install WM6 on my HP ipaq rw6828. But it wasnt easy, it took me 1 full day to get it installed. Just to help other people who are installing this, here is my experience -
What all I did and how I finally got there -
1.
Tried to install it via PC. When I already had a higher version of the Bootloader installed. Best way is to install it via 1GB mini SD card.
2.
After reading other posts I managed to downgrade the bootloader to version 1.0.1 (not sure of the version number...but its the version you get after installing the HP SP34074).
3.
Once I managed to downgrade. I got into the Bootloader mode on my device( its pretty simple to get into BL mode, make sure you ask someone to help you with it, its easier with two people, to get into Bootloader mode - a)press the two "-" buttons on the phone together. b)While the two "-" are pressed have a second person remove the battery. c) Wait for a few seconds and ask the person to insert the battery back. d)Once the battery is in place ask the second person to use the stylus and push into the soft reset hole (its hole on the left of the USB connecter on the phone). e) Wait for a few seconds and then phone should go into the BL mode. f) release the two "-" buttons after it enters the BL mode. Sometimes for me it entered the BL mode after I released the "-" buttons also. But dont release the "-" buttons till you have pressed into the hole with the stylus.
4.
With my phone now in the BL mode and showing the older version 1.0.1 (not sure but it should not be 1.0.5) I clicked the Device Software Update Utility.exe. I got the screen where you get a combo/dropdown with "ALL" pre-selected. The install step clearly says choose "OS" only and not "ALL". But I made a mistake here, for some reason using the mouse I didnt see any other option in the dropdown accept for "ALL". so I selected ALL and did a next. The setup kicked in and I got different screens showing status of install. But on the final screen it got stuck at 6% and stayed like that for well over 6 hours...I didnt touch the install as the instruction clearly say not to disconnect or stop the exe. But after 6 hours I realized that something is wrong and i killed the Device Software Update Utility.exe file.
5.
I did a soft reset on the phone and to my surprise after a while it loaded WM6....but that was it. Has the install failed in between the WM6 on the phone was totally screwed up...nothing worked properly. I coudnt even get ActiveSync to recogonise my device or connect to it.
6.
I tried the whole sequence mentioned in step 4 again but no luck now Device Software Update Utility.exe would error out I assume it could be because of the BL version 1.0.5. So I thought let downgrade and install the older BL version....but with no active sync i coudnt downgrade the device.
7.
Then i read somewhere SD card boot method to copy the EBOOT0908_MNT_1.00.05.nbf from the SP34074 and rename to eboot.nbo. This didnt work either, am not sure if I renamed the file correctly to .nbo(Orange) or .nb0(zero). Well I dont know whats correct eboot.nbo or eboot.nb0. But since this step didnt work. I was really upset as I felt I was stuck...then GOD had mercy on me and I did something which simply worked ...
8.
I took my mini SD card out connected to my Laptop in the SD card slot with the SD adapter. Did a quickformat to clean it up...if you have data its a good idea to back up the SD card in a seperate folder.
9.
Now I had a clean SD card with no files I downloaded the 1.0.5a (for 68x8) for miniSD. I copied the diskimg.nb0, size : 64,000 KB to the SD card root folder.
10.
Since I was trying the SD card method, I connected the mobile to AC power instead of the PC just to make sure I had enough power for install.
11.
I popped the SD card back into the phone. Removed the phone battery. Then entered into the Bootloader mode (refer to step 3 for getting into BL mode). Well nothing seemed to be happening...but I decided to stay on the BL mode .... to my surprise after 10-15 min i got a message asking my reset and goto factory mode. I wasnt sure if it was asking me to do something or was just a message. While I was wondering...the phone restarted automatically and it loaded WM6 ..asked me to do the tap thing to configure like the initial factory setup .. after all this I poped my SIM inside. Connected the phone to my PC. Active Sync finally recognized my device and synched everthing. Now everything WORKS!!! Though there are some issues like the camera flash doesnt come on.. etc but more or less everything seems to work. I havent tried other applications like email SMS wifi bluetooth etc.. I will post soon my experience weather all main applications work without a glitch...but am so happy my patience paid off..
Thanks to nhocbanme for WM6 version for HP ipqa rw6828, my biggest mistake was not to properly follow steps listed by nhocbanme. For people trying to install WM6 on HP ipaq rw6828....please please use the SD card method...it works and takes less then 30 minutes...you can follow my steps 8,9,10,11 to have a trouble free setup.
Good luck

Hi... my bootloader is dead any I cannot locate the fin out to flash my ipaq rw6828... please tell me where exactly are the pin out for rw6828
Thanks you.
Hi WilliamSun,
if you can go to boot loader it mean you can repair your device. You should download WM5/WM6/WM6.1 ROM that design to flash via mini SD. you can download it from nhocbanme's or hellowordl1's thread, and flash your device again.
Good Luck.

downgrade with SP34074 from PC (like intruction on screen PC)
1. run SP34074 from PC
2. remove battrey from device for sec, and put back to device
3. connect the device via USB, n make sure the PC is respon that
4. follow the instruction in screen
its work for me
I need someone to provide me a proper guide that will not lead me to other topics and the files i should use in order to upgrade mu Orange M600 SPV with windows mobile 6.1 and some greek support.
Thanks a lot and sorry if i act like a total brat but i tried everything in the guides and i think its too misleading for a newbie like me.
I use this guide:
1. copy the 3 files from the jumpspl.zip (attached at the bottom of this post )to the
ROOT directory of your Prophet ( NOT NOT NOT inside the windows folder,)
2. UNPLUG/disconnect YOUR DEVICE from PC,
3. Execute the SPL.lnk IN THE DEVICE (use Total Commander recommended or you
will make errors), then you see Prophet in all bright or white screen,
4. Then plug back the USB port ( connect to computer), here, nothing will be seen in the prophet
(make step 5 NOW or you will receive errors and need to do over again),
5. THEN execute the Rom Upgrade Utility (ROMUpdateUtility_NV_G3.exe ( or G4), in the
HardSPL folder that you had downloaded, all activities will only take 2-3 minutes to go,
nothing will be seen in the Prophet screen. if you see unknown device detected (not normal) from PC, you need to repeat the above procedures.....
(P.S. if connection Error, NO PANIC, soft reset OR remove battery for half a minute and try again. )
6. after the flash completed, it will restart automatically.
Click to collapse
But the SPL.lnk is not running either using total commander or the file explorer. What to do?
Use "Prophet Tools", there is a link in my signature.
This will allow you to HardSPL. Then, you need to get a ROM. I'd recommend one of gullums Coffie ROMs, as they have multilanguage support. They may not be WM6.1, but as far as I know, there are no WM6.1 Greek ROMs ATM.
I used your tool but after i press the hardspl the screen goes white and then nothing. Also it says error connection 204

thanks a lot
I wish to publicaly say a thanks to l3v5y for all his great help.
Thanks a lot m8...
Would be quite usefull if you would post your solution here.
I also want to hard SPL my prophet but if i run the prophet tools select G4 and HARD SPL my PDA goes into a white screen and after a short time there is an error on my pc.
So i think i have almost the Same error but my code says ERROR 208 (CANT OPEN FILE)...
Yes i did have the same error.
Download this file and you will be ok:
http://rapidshare.com/files/112210743/HardSPL_G4.zip.html
If you need any more information i ll gladly help you.
That probably means I have the wrong/non existant file in Prophet Tools...
I had the same problem so he will be ok.
I have the same Problem. I tried the "Prohpet Tools" and the "HardSpl" tool (seems to be the same?).
As soon as i'm asked if i want to let jumpspl.exe access my prophet (TC500) and i choose yes the screen is fading to white, the usb-connection is closed and my prophet is doing nothing.
I tried it a few times and also tried another usb-cable and another usb-Port but nothing helped. My os ist xp sp3, firewall and Anti-Virus are disabled.
I tried to download the mentioned file in this thread but it isn't available anymore.
Please help me, this is getting on my nerves.
Thank you

Guys I was updating my Old Gene to vanilamanila
but suddenly error 270 occured and my device reset itself and didnt opened anymore.
how can I fix it???
try to upgrade your SPL
hey its by KRAZY ABOUT TECHNOLOGY {senior member XDA} you can find the whole thread
The Step By Step Guide
The Step By Step Guide
CAUTION: DO NOT UPDATE ROM OF A PHONE THAT IS SIM LOCKED. THE RESULTS ARE UNKNOWN BUT MOST OF THE TIMES IT PREVENTS YOU FROM USING THE PHONE ANY FURTHUR!!
If you like to backup your existing rom first, follow this guide by Ankit360 to do it : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...8&postcount=20
Step 1: Download the Tools
-------------------------------
Download the tools zip file from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/81084740...ing_Tools.html
Its a self extracting file, just start it and give a path and it will unzip all the files in your chosen folder. Inside the extracted folder you will find these things:
1. SPL Updater : Inside it there are 2 folders, Olipro and Orefkov. These contain the two SPL patchers that we need to use.
2. ROM Update Utility : This contains the ROM update utility we will need to flash a ROM. Unzip it into a folder.
3. USBDriver4ActiveSyncVista : This contains a special driver for Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista that you need to use to successfully update your ROM. Unzip it in a folder too.
4. Download a ROM appropriate for your device: Which one is appropriate, you'll only know after updating your SPL. So do this step after that. But in any case, here is a link to a good ROM, created by me, which is available for both new and old gene:
Sumit's Pro Users ROM (WM 6.1, for new and old gene)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467796
Step 2: Preparing your phone
--------------------------------
1. Copy the file gene_hspl.exe from the SPL Updater\Olipro folder that you got in step 1 to the phone memory.
2. First, on your phone, Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC. Here, uncheck the checkbox : enable advance nerwork functionality. Click OK. Disconnect and Reconnect the USB cable to your pc.
Step 3: Prepare your Computer
--------------------------------
XP Users
----------
There is not much you need to do. Just open task manager and kill the Active Sync executable from the processes tab. Its named as wcescomm.exe.
Vista Users
-------------
You need to take these steps :
1. Go to desktop, right click Computer, and select Manage. Go to Device Manager. Now under the section Mobile Devices, Double Click : Smartphone USB Sync.
2. On the Drivers tab, click "Update Driver..." button. On next screen click : "Browse my computer for driver software".
3. Click : "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computers". Click "Have Disk.." on next screen. Click "Browse..." and go to the folder extracted in step 1. There, go to USBDriverforActiveSyncVista folder. Here select the file "wceusbsh.inf" and click OK.
4. Click Next and finish the wizard.
Step 4: Use the Olipro method first.
-----------------------------------------
Open File manager on your phone. Go to the location on phone memory where you saved gene_hspl.exe. Tap on it to run it. Your phone will restart after a short pause.
Now there are two chances :
a) If its done alright, you'll see SPL 1.10.Olip on your boot screen and your phone will boot just fine. And it confirms that you have an old gene. You do not need to do Step5. Proceed to Step 6.
b) If it doesn't boots, and only green and red keys blink, Don't worry. Your phone is bricked but you'll get it back using orefkov's method in a minute. Proceed to next step. And this confirms that you have a new gene.
Step 5: Use the Orefkov Unlocker
------------------------------------
1. Remove the battery, SIM card and SD Card of your phone and press the Power key for 20 seconds to draw out any residual power from the phone.
2. Replace the battery but not the SIM and SD card, and don't start the phone yet. Press and hold the Camera button and then press the Power button or Soft Reset button. Phone will come to boot loader mode (tricolor screen) and SPL 1.10.Olip will be displayed.
3. Connect the USB cable. The text USB will appear on the bottom of the screen.
4. On PC, go to the folder Orefkov in the folder extracted in step 1 and run the Mtty1_42.exe. Press the button "USB" in the window that opened.
5. In the window that opened, type the following command (don't use copy paste please) and press enter:
Code:
set 32 1
You'll see a response from phone.
6. Type the following command BUT DON'T PRESS ENTER YET:
Code:
ls boot.bin
Note : that is small L and small s in that command, dont mistake it with I.
Now, hold down the Camera button on phone, and press the enter key on computer. After a while, the screen will become White. Continue pressing the Camera button for 10 more seconds.
7. Now release the camera button, close the MTTY program and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the same folder, not the one outside it. That one is for RAM flashing that we will use later. Check the boxes in each step and click Next Next and then at last Update. Let it finish the process. Your phone will restart.
8. Now on the splash screen you'll see the info with updated SPL version. The version of SPL will be 1.07.Oref.
Congrats! you have successfully patched your SPL.
Step 6: Flash the ROM
---------------------------
Now let the phone boot once and then shutdown it. Insert your SIM card, but not the SD card. Go to the PC and copy the ROM file (it must be names RUU_Signed.nbh. Rename it if it has some other name.) into the ROM Update Utility folder that is outside the Orefkov and SPL Patcher folder.
Now press and hold the camera button and start your phone to go into the Boot loader mode once again.
Now Run the RomUpdateUtility.exe and follow her instructions. Please make sure that you are not running RomUpdateUtility inside the Orefkov folder in SPL Updater folder. You must use the one outside, in the RomUpdateUtility folder. Your phone will automatically go into bootloader mode and a progress bar will be displayed on both phone and PC. Once it completes, your phone will restart again and you'll get the phone with the brand new ROM.
Step 7 : Set your PC and Phone back to normal
------------------------------------------------
This step is only needed in case you are using Vista.
The driver we updated in Vista will not work for normal active sync operation. So you'll need to set it back to the original version. There are two ways to do that. Either, uninstall and reinstall the Windows Mobile Device Center Or Follow the same procedure gicen in Step 3 but instead on clicking the "Have Disk button", choose the driver from the list already given.
The driver that you need to install can be identified by have a newer version given in front of its name. Also, the newer driver's name includes "Microsoft Corporation" while the older one has only "Microsoft".
You can Put back your SD card now.
On your phone, again go to the Start > Settings > Connections > USB and check the checkbox there and click OK.
That's it! You are Done.

@rockyyy : For heavens sake, do not post full tut in threads like these man, its a waste of space and bandwidth and its annoying to scroll though it everytime. A link to the original post would have done that easily. In case you aren't aware, every post has a number in its top right corner like this one has #8. This number is also a permanent link or permalink to that post and it can be used to refer to it. Just right click on the number and copy the link address.

outdated stuff:
There seems to be a lot of questions regarding the steps laid out in the official thread, so here I'll try doing a STEP BY STEP guide for those who are confused with the steps.
I borrowed some stuff from the original guide, so thanks Bin4ry, jerpelea and biktor_gj for everything!
NOTE: Before you begin, you should know that this process will wipe everything off your phone. So backup your contacts, and text messages and everything on your phone! Download a free backup program from the market to make backups onto your SD card, and after you're done everything, download that program again and restore everything from SD card. Your SD card remains fine.
1) Install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service).
You can get it from here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1275980198/Update_Service_Setup-2.10.6.21.exe
2) Run SEUS, follow the prompts. You don't need to update the phone through it, but get the phone ready for updating. This process should install the drivers necessary for the rooting process.
Note: I suggest you keep your USB cable attached to that USB port. Remember which USB port of your computer it's attached to, as changing USB ports can lead to a bit of confusion for the next 2 steps!
3) To check if #2 was successful, click on Start, click Run, and type: regedit
In the Registry Editor that pops up, click on Computer, press CTRL+F, and search for this: USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\
After it's finished finding, on the right side you'll see DeviceInstance, then it says REG_SZ, then it says something like USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\5&270d2a78&0&3
You'll need that last bit (in this example: 5&270d2a78&0&3 Yours would probably be different). This is your DeviceID (you'll need it soon!)
Note: You may have multiple of these if you plugged the USB cord into many USB ports on your computer. Each USB port will give a different DeviceID, so if you have more than one DeviceID, you'll have to choose one, and if it doesn't work (you'll find out when you reach #5!) you will have to choose another one.
Alternatively, download the file in the next step and extract it, go to the folder called 1st, and run the DeviceID.jar file. It should give your DeviceID
4) Download this:
http://filevo.com/1nlq8wryo11u.html
or from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/404363083/i_R1FA16_ft.rar.html
Extract it.
In the step1 folder, you'll see a file called DeviceID.txt
Open it up, delete whatever's there, and put YOUR DeviceID (that you found from the previous step).
Save the file and close notepad.
Note: Make sure there are no extra spaces or lines after/before the DeviceID. The ONLY thing that should be in the file is your DeviceID, NO SPACES/LINES (for example, only this: 5&270d2a78&0&3 [yours will probably be different])
5) Take out the USB cable from your phone (leave it plugged into your computer)
Turn your phone OFF
Open up step1.cmd (it's not inside the step1 folder, but outside it), but DON'T PRESS ANYTHING
Now we have to put the phone into flash mode. This is how you do it:
Hold the Back button on your phone, and while holding the back button, insert the USB cable into the phone.
A green light should come on the phone (like when it's charging or a missed call)
Quickly "Press any key to continue..." in the open step1.cmd window.
Let it finish what it's doing. It will say "Press any key to continue..." after it's finished. Until then, DON'T touch anything!
If you get problems in this step, refer to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6970868&postcount=3
Here's a helpful video for common java issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713457
After completion, this will give you a Generic X10i R1FA016 firmware (check it by pressing the left button, go to settings>about phone and at the very bottom under build number)
Keep your phone plugged into the USB.
6) Download this:
http://filevo.com/yzmh8wlyrgtz.html
or from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/404359845/ROOT_F2v2.rar.html
Extract it.
DELETE step4 folder, step5 folder, step4.cmd and step5.cmd
Now we're going to put the phone into Debugging mode:
Turn your phone on if it's not already on.
Press the left button, go to Settings>Applications>Development and check on USB debugging, press OK in the popup. Plug the USB into the phone (in case you disconnected it). You should see an exclamation mark at the very top left of the screen of the phone.
Do NOT have the SD card mounted to your computer!
Note: This next step can take a while!
Open step2.cmd, don't press anything!
On the phone, a list of buttons will come up eventually. Press the 6th option (something about update from SDcard). ONLY PRESS IT ONCE!
Leave your phone alone. Go to the washroom or eat a snack.
You'll see the progress on the phone screen, as it installs the package. Leave everything alone.
After completion, this will give you a Generic X10i R2BA023 firmware.
If you get problems, try this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7003121&postcount=1122
7) The phone should be on, USB plugged in, and already in USB debugging mode.
Open step3.cmd, and 'Press any key to continue'
Let it finish what it's doing, it will say 'Press any key to continue' at the end after it's finished.
After completion, this will give you ROOT! And it also installs some programs for you.

Additional steps for X10a:
Download this:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BY0GZBM3
Extract it.
Inside the step4 folder, there is a DeviceID.txt file. Remember you've seen this before? Copy the same one from step1 folder that you did in #4, and put it into the step4 folder.
Follow #5 (except with step4.cmd)
Next, turn the phone on (if it doesn't turn on, unplug the USB from the phone, and try turning it on again, then plug the USB back in). Put it in USB debugging mode if it's not (if you forgot how to, look back in #6)
Open step5.cmd
After it's done, press the left button on the the phone, go to Settings>About phone and under Model number it should say X10a

Market Fix:
If you have an X10i, follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719486
Otherwise if you have an X10a, use this file instead, but follow the same instructions as in the link above: http://rapidshare.com/files/405188255/Market-Fix-X10a.rar

To delete preinstalled programs you don't want, such as Moxier:
Put phone in debugging mode if it's not already.
I recommend you unplug USB from phone so you don't end up running some file and messing your phone
Open up the step3 folder. Right-click on cleanup.cmd, and click on edit.
Whatever is there in that list of "@adb shell rm /blah/blah/blah" will get wiped off your phone. So change the list as you want. If you're unsure, REMOVE IT FROM THE LIST!
After you're done making your list of apps to remove, save the file, plug USB into phone, and run the file.
Here is a thread that says what some of the applications are, and additional ones you can add to the list, to remove from the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714021
Alternatively, you can install Titanium Backup from the market (it's free!) and use that to uninstall some applications. Also, it's really great for making a backup of your stuff (you can backup more things now since you have access to more things since you now have root!)

nice work dude.
Great tutorial !
I followed this guide but when doing step 2.cmd, i did as I should and when I came back there was a picture of a phone with exclamation mark on it.
I thought it was done so I took off the usb and restarted the phone and it redid the whole progress thing, this time with the pic of a phone and an arrow pointing to it.
The phone restarted but now it won't go past the screen where is says "sony ericsson". What do I do now?

What I would do is try restarting the phone; if that doesn't help, or can't restart it, take the battery out, and put the battery in after 5 sec and try starting the phone again. If that doesn't help, or it stays as an exclamation mark, start from step 1 again
Yep I redid step 1. I don't know what that exclamation mark thing was for. I hope it doesn't show up the next time I try it.

That's all I ever got from Step 2.
"error: device not found
error: device not found
"select option 6 SDCARD UPDATE"
Press any key to continue . . ."
Thank GOD though, someone had the sense to say "option 6 ON THE PHONE".
I was looking to press it on my PC keyboard for ages. I don't even know if I missed the option appearing on my phone but I don't think so as it always said the above on the PC.
Anyway, I gave up and used SEUS to update. Flashing in step 1 gave me a generic firmware and removed my O2 UK branding. SEUS then updated to the R2BA020 before it was available on O2... battery life vastly improved but I am missing a few market apps.
And now I can't even manage step 1! I am no fool and I am in IT, but I am pretty confused by all this. I only wanted to remove f***ing Moxier apps and improve battery life. Now I've lost access to stuff on the market, I kinda wish I'd waited for O2 to release it officially!
The Java app from pre-step 1 for finding phone ID just displays a blank screen too. I've got 3 different IDs on my PC and none of them work now. I assume as I got the "official" generic FW OTA, perhaps they locked out this method?
Frustrated at losing access to market apps more than anything.
Are you sure the device is in USB-debug mode? When you plug the USB into the phone, make sure that exclamation sign at the very top left of the screen comes up, and then try running step2.cmd
Step 2 Problems
Okay I'm in the right thread because I am a total root noob.
This is my first attempt at trying this.
I'm running an X10a on Rogers.
I've been following the instructions to the letter, but I just can't get step 2 completed.
This is the error I message I get: "Failed to copy 'fota.pkg' to '/sdcard/fota.pkg': Permission Denied" ... blah blah blah.
I can't seem to get past this "Permission Denied" issue.
Any help is appreciated.
Great Guide...
I got the following error message which at step1. I am sure I followed all the installation steps(with Java installed) and switched the phone into flash mode already.
Can anyone let me know how to resolve it? Thank you very much.
Here are the error messages:

Help
I run the whole process to root R2BA020, working well.
I was updating the rom R2BA023, and run the 5 steps, my X10 only shows a drawing of the X10 with a triangle with exclamation. I need help to restore the X10.
@wongrhy
Go to command promt and type javac and hit enter. If it does not display java help options then path is not set correctly.
Try setting up the path with the following command on the command prompt
path={PUT YOUR JAVA BIN FOLDER PATH HERE}
Make sure you change/put the java bin folder path above.
After that try running the flash again.
@Topic Creator.
I guess you forgot to mention that the DeviceID.txt from the Step 1 has to be copied in the Step 2 and Step 3 folder.
People who got error in Step2 and Step 3. Put the DeviceID.txt from the step 1 folder into Step 2 and Step 3 folder and try again.

Try the steps from beginning. It should work. If you want to go back to Sony Default unrooted firmware then try the ROMs by jerpelea in another thread in the forum.
run the step 1 and the outcome is:
please connect Xperia in flash mode.
