A little HTC Taskmanager Tip for you guys - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Most of you may already realize this but I just experienced a little oddity related to the HTC Taskmanager's "X to close app" feature. I was trying to change my Activesync settings to download older emails and all msgs instead of partial but everytime I closed out of the settings page it lost my changes. I then realized that I had set the plugin to close apps not just hide/minimize when I hit the X's. Of course, the box within the activesync settings is actually an "OK" but it still results in the plugin closing the activesync settings without saving. I turned off that feature temporarily and it allowed me to tap "OK" without losing my settings. This may be too basic a tip but maybe it will save someone some trouble out there.

[Q] Disappearing contact

Not the end of the world, but I have a contact that keeps disappearing from my favourites on people tab.
It only disappears when ever Active Sync is syncing, though the contact is still listed, just disappears from the tab.
This has now happened on the last 2 or 3 ROMs I've used so that rules out a ROM issue.
Anyone have any ideas?
TIA
I have used search and can't find anyone else with the same issue
Not being funny, but as a senior member I'm sure you know how to start your own thread, so why hijack mine.
the info that tells sense it is a favorite (and Facebook links) is held in the notes field, so you could try setting it as fav, then edit the contact, scroll down to more (brings up the winmo contact screen) and copy out all the code,
example
<HTCData><!-- Please do not modify -->
<Favorite>actionid:CallMobile</Favorite>
<Facebook>id:51xxxx112/friendof:xxxx91731</Facebook>
</HTCData>
and manually put it in the notes field of your contact on the pc.if it solves it, it could be that your sync settings have been altered to update only from pc to phone, not both directions.
None of my contacts have anything like that.
Today they've all behaved themselves and not run off, will keep an eye on it
Normally your contact will have a Note information, like samsamuel mentioned before.
I know if I delete this info on one of my contact's, it will disappearing from my favourites on the people tab.
This info is needed.

Found a security issue with Restricted Profiles

I decided to try and lock down my younger brothers Nexus 7 so that he could have his favorite apps but have no access to the internet. Android 5.0 has made this a little easier with the addition of Restricted Profiles.
However there is a major flaw.
Firstly i can disable access to all browsers etc but it does not have the option to disable access to settings. From there you can browse to "Accounts" then "Google Ads" which then gives you full access to the internet and acts as a mini web browser. This defeats the whole purpose of a restricted profile lol, is Google aware of this?
What i need is a way to disable access to settings. I have tried App lock apps but he manages to beat them by repetitively punching a bunch of random numbers
Is there a way to disable the quick settings and notification panel, so that when he tries to pull it down, it won't do anything?
I have hidden the settings icon from Nova so that he can't access this way. But all it takes is a simple swipe down, tap the settings icon in the quick settings panel, go to Accounts, then Google ads and you have access to a full web browsing experience LOL.
Did i mention he's 7? I'm scared of what he'll be able to do at 16
I realise it will probably require root. I'm willing to try anything at this stage!
Any suggestions?

GCM Push Notification behaviour..

Hi there,
I purchased full version of Greenfy and now I can take advantage of those extra experimental features...
For example, maybe there's someone that could explain what "GCM push for greenfied apps does?"...The only result I can see is like this:
I greenfied Facebook Messenger, Facebook, S Health, Maps, HERE Maps...because I don't want these apps be woken again only if there are some received notifications because at the same time I don't want any missed notifications from these apps...does this experimental feature " GCM push for greenfied apps" helps me to obtain what I need?
Well, I've seen while I'm not connected to Internet neither via WiFi nor Data, these apps are hibernated and further wakeups no longer occur but when I connect to the Internet, Messenger is set like this: It's automatically placed into "Not hibernating automatically" with this status:
Working
20:56 ago content provided: Messenger Logged!
And the other one, Facebook is placed automatically under "Will hibernate in minutes after screen is OFF"...what do all these mean??
These 2 apps are woken up automatically by the system although there were no notifications in either case...
I've just connected to the internet and these apps woken up...is it a normal behaviour?
Maybe someone more experimented could explain me the whole process...Thanks in advance!!
Now I see both apps are under the same category: "Will hibernate in minutes after screen is OFF"...how many minutes is all about???

Your understanding of GCM push is correct. It is meant to ensure that you don't miss any notifications from greenified Apps.
Facebook and Messenger are always in a different category. They will behave in their own fashion even if you greenify them.
"Working" means that the process is running. After it completes what it has to do, it will go back to 'will hibernate after screen is off'. That hibernation takes place anywhere from 2 minutes to 5 minutes after the screen is off.
Hope you are clear.

Thanks..you were very clear with your explanation but this morning something strange happened!
I connected to the Internet and played a bit with messenger app on my mobile data...then I disconnected my mobile data and closed the process associated to the Messenger App...I had to close it manually from Active Apps screan...it seems there's no other way...
And after 2-3 minutes or even more I checked my Active Apps...I did a shortcut with Quick Shorcut Maker and launching it through a swipe gesture from anywhere using GMD Gesture Control...I'm such disperate to close all the apps's processes when they(the apps) are no longer in use...Well, deep sleep has to stay deep sleep and I don't want any apps to run in background unless they are related to notifications...but when I'm not connected to the Internet I want all my apps's processes closed except apps like : Swapps, Internet SpeedMeter , GMD Gesture Control, My Data Manager, Greenfy, Tasker, Samsung Keyboard and System UI whose associated processes MUST stay there, under Active Apps Category List...
Well, I've seen Greenfy provides me a shortcut for the greenfied apps...but I don't know what this shortcut does..
Well....let's say at the moment X I have these 2 apps, Messenger and Facebook under Active apps, which means their processes are running...
Well, when I'm greenfying them which means when I press on that shortcut button shouldn't those apps be eliminated from Active Apps List..because this doesn't happen...I still have to enter myself and close the processes manually...then what's the shorcut's point? )...The apps were already greenfied through Greenfy App...weeks ago...do you get my point?..
I wanted that shortcut to automatically eliminate those 2(or any) running processes when I press on it!! Do you know any ways to obtain this behaviour so I weren't under the necessity to press explicitly on the "Stop" button?? Thanks in advance!!
@last1left91
I think that by manually killing a running process, you lose more battery. It may also affect the stability of the Apps concerned.
The best way to do it is using Greenify. But I don't know why these two are not hibernated when you use the shortcut.
Let us wait for @oasisfeng
First of all, let me explain the state words. "Working" means the app is reporting it self actively working to Android system thus should avoid being killed. Greenify respects this state unless it is black-listed (check "always ignore its state" when manual hibernating a "working" app). "content provided" means its content is accessed by some other app in a cross-app-interaction way (usually via APIs). In your case, its most probably accessed by Facebook app. Then the Facebook app itself is usually woken by other apps with Facebook feature integration (login, "like" and etc.) In most cases, they do hibernate, but usually woken when you launch other apps (with Facebook integration). You can let it go since Greenify should automatically hibernate them again after screen goes off next time.
The shortcut of "Hibernate" will only put apps in "pending" section into hibernation. If an app is shown as "Working", it will not be hibernated by the shortcut too. To override that, manually hibernate it once and check "always ignore its state" there.

[APP] Help is required with Facebook (and Whatsapp) apps

Hi everyone,
I made a simple search yet I'm not sure I know how to really pronounce my problem for a good search result
For over 2 months now I've been having issues with Facebook app. I'd like to describe my symptoms and things I've been checking out and I'd be more than happy if you pro's could share your 2 cents.
1) Facebook crashes spontaneously .. and I don't mean FC. It simply "vanishes". The app disappears from main view (I have no ghost of it under "Running Apps"). I have to open it again. When I do, my feed is rearranged as if its the first time I launch facebook after boot. No specific thing I do that does is. I can browse, I can type a comment, I can press a like. I can simply live the screen on (keep awake with power).
2) Faceboot app constantly "disconnects" and denies updating its data. For instance, I may finger-browse my feed and suddenly I get to the bottom of the feed with "Can't Connect" and a sad cloud icon. Same happens if I try to "refresh" the page, search for a user or go into a group - "Can't Connect". I have to manually close facebook (apps-screen and swipe away) for it to get fixed..
Things I've noticed:
1) I'm using 1plus2 oxygen latest (2.2.2?). I've changed app permission to block access to "calendar", "contacts", "camera", "audio", "clipboard", "location"
2) I noticed that when I recoked app permission "Keep Awake" - vids didn't start properly. Some of them crashed my app like in (1) above. I restored "Keep awake" and "Audio" and vids play fine. I restored the rest of the permissions and I still get the "cant connect" issue.
3) I've constantly limited facebook permissions even on my old Nexus 5 phone (using cyanogen privacy default deny any permissions unless specified by me)
READ FURTHER FOR EXTRA ISSUES IF POSSIBLE
1) Whatsapp. My current whatsapp is constantly backed up and the .db file moves between phones I change (for over 3 years now).
2) my db file is ~1GB. I sometimes also copy media/photos and media/videos too .. so I'll always have access to my historic images and videos shared by contacts.
3) Whatsapp, every 2-3 weeks, behave erratically. I may open a message notification from the drawer and whatsapp takes 15-20 seconds to open that chat! I may open a picture in a group (MAINLY in groups) and it would take 15-20 seconds to open. It opens half way, device is "laggy", and after 15-20 image is fully viewable.
Same laggy activity (for both facebook and whatsapp) happened over at my old nexus 5 making me believe I actually had faulty hardware. Now its 1plus2.
Not a lot of rooted apps, other than the obvious (Titanium, SuperSU, Call Recorder - which is currently disabled).
Sorry for the long post, I lack a potato for you. Will be glad for any thoughts.

android guru help for settings...

Its been a while since I use android... bot now that i have switched things changed a lot. Im still at the edge if im going to return my note or not because of some annoyances im getting that i cant figure out how to fix it. Hopefully an android guru can help.
FIrst... i need some help why does all my online account signs out. If i didnt get to open them in a significant amout of time. the moment i launch the app it gonna be asking me to log in again. kinda frustrating sometimes esp when im in a hurry that i really want to check something.
Firstly: This is something that happens to all mobile devices. Almost every iOS (iPhone and iPad) users complains about this. Android is a little less aggressive in logging users out of services from apps than Apple does. But, yes, Android does time out after inactivity some login sessions, like banking, for security reasons. Some apps have a "stay logged in" option in its settings or on the login page that you can enable. While other apps choose to allow login sessions to time out. Few these apps will give you a warning about the timeout so you can delay the logout. And few apps may have a time delay without human interaction setting before logging you out (Android has this time delay without human interaction (inactivity) setting before logging you out to the Lock screen). Also some areas in an app, like Account Settings, you may need to log into separately from the main app for (again) security reasons.
What I do about this: I use LastPass (a password manager) auto-fill feature so that I don't need to type in the user name and password all the time. The auto-fill will allow you to choose the user name and password set to use for the app or site, then it auto fills the user name and password. Some apps also may allow you to use your fingerprint to auto login to an app, like a bank app.
Most Android apps should somewhere in the app have the "hamburger" menu (three lines or three dots). Settings/Options for most apps would be found in the Hamburger menu. Once you tapped onto the Hamburger menu look for and tap the Setting or Option name/icon to go to the settings for that app. There you can navigate the settings to see if there is something like "stay logged in" setting to enable. You can logout then go to the login page to see if there is something like "stay logged in" that you can check before you log back in.
Android has a time delay without human interaction (inactivity) setting before logging you out to the Lock screen. To set this go to Settings > Display > scroll down to and click on "Screen timeout". There you can choose from 15 seconds to 10 minutes without human interaction (inactivity) before Android logs you out to the Lock screen.

Well thats the problem... im using LastPass and LastPass itself is logging me out once in a while.
Okay. Let us try to fix this.
Go to LastPass app.
Go to the Hamburger menu (three lines on left top of app)
at the bottom of the Hamburger menu click on Settings click on "Security"
uncheck " Lock LastPass automatically"
There are more login settings to go for LastPass. In the same Security settings:
uncheck "Check session when app is activate"
select "Skip reprompt after login" > choose "Disabled"
select "log out when app in idle" > choose "Never"
check "Allow offline access.
Here you can setup fingerprint to unlock LastPass.
In the Security settings check "Use fingerprint to unlock".
Then follow instructions.
If you never set fingerprint reading for your Note 8, then you will need to go through that setup first.
Now restart LastPass.
The" Allow offline access" helps you prevent logging out when your device loses 4G/LTE connection. This stores your LastPass stuff in your device.
Make sure you setup App Fill in the Settings.
Hope that helps.
Thank you... Good karma to you for giving a little bit of your time to help. I hope this fixes my logging out problems.
:fingers-crossed:
Cool
