Troubles Downloading With Radio 3.27 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I'm currently using DCD's WM6.1 ROM which is excellent!!! and the new 3.27 Radio on my XV6800. For some reason I am having troubles downloading files from the Internet. I've tried to download Live Search and it get's about a 1/4 way done and it halts. Does anybody know a cause/fix for this? Apologize in advance if this has been covered, but I did search and could not find a solution.

I've been bouncing around between everyone's 6.0 and 6.1 ROMs and kitchens and get the same thing when Live Search tries to upgrade to the new version. It gets about 1/4 of the way in IE and hangs.
I assume there must really be an upgrade, so it would be nice if someone can find it another way so the builders and cookers can add it in from the get go.

Is your problem just with any download ie do you have the issue with WIFI or just OTA download?
I and others are having issues just with OTA data. No solution yet.

This is the reason I downgraded away from the very first 3.16 release
When the download stalls, the signalbars vanish for a moment.
It happened so often that I couldn't deal with it any longer

Same reasone why i'm back to 2.17 and loving it. GPS is cool but not at the expense of internet connectivity. i'm sure they will figure this out soon- hoping for Feb 28.

Unfortunately it appears to be happening with all file downloads.

I have the exact same issue. Has anyone reflashed the radio to see if it would fix it?

I am having the same issues. When I am pinging websites have a high latency 270ms (should be like 35-40ms) and I also getting 1 Request Timed Out every 3 to 4 packets. That is most like why downloads stop.

My guess is it is the Radio 3.27 at issue not the Roms themselves.

Same problem here with Windows Live search and other downloads. Its iffy iffy on many things. I stream internet radio a lot and its not as solid as before. It drops more often now and many times doesn't even buffer the whole way. Can we run the older radio with the newest dcd rom?

According to the instructions provided here, no.

greetings. i also downloaded the 3.16 rom, and have had troubles with downloads using ie. i dont know if anyone else has tried opera 8.65, but downloading works for me with that browser. its not a solution to the overall problem, but at least it works. my apologies if this has been discussed already. dschoenike

I have also experienced this problem. I am running the leaked ROM with the new radio. PIE stalls on almost all downloads (except the smallest of them and even that is sketchy).
Other observations:
- While my city is shown as having REV A. coverage, my download speeds have also decreased with the new radio.
- When connected to the internet through WiFi, the download problem does not exist. Switching back to EV causes the problem, immediately.
- Contrary to other, less logical poster's suggestions, this has nothing to do with the addition of GPS drivers. If you turn GPS off, this problem still exists.
Just my $0.02.

What are our options at this Point? If we want to download, Whats the best Radio and Rom to use?

Not Sure it is the Radio
I just downloaded from the Resco site utilizing IE and it downloaded a 1.4 Meg file fairly quickly. IE hangs on Live Search Download on My Device as well.

I had the problems without ever attempting to download live search. Some transfers would be just fine, but I'd say 90% of them failed.
It's great that people are working on new roms with better versions of WM, but if they are all going to be based off a bad radio it doesn't help me

heh, these problems with the 3.27 radio are prolly what made sprint push back their original release date of the new update...

Radio Rom 1.35

Sorry if this is a dumb Question but I have not been able to find a true answer.
What is the advantage of updating My Radio Rom from 1.20 to either 1.27 or 1.35 or should I leave well enough alone.
Its up to you, the 1.35.00.11 version of the radio has the GPS chip enabled, but as you will see in the GPS thread the GPS chip works but has no antenna. The radio should be more stable, and i noticed an increase in the range of my 3G area with it. Make sure to use the version available here (at the top) because they push "des SSPL" to the phone so you dont need to worry about which bootloader or CID you have (not that it matters about CID with radio upgrades...but you know what i mean )
Thanks, i'll probably upgrade to 1.35 using the link you provided
Just upgraded, very straightforward.
One slight issue. After upgrade and soft reset I could not make a data connection.
I made a voice call just to check that was working . . .
then all was OK.
Don't know if the voice call sorted it or what
just make sure you have GPS off or your battery will be in for a ride

Hi,
I also flashed 1.35 nice and easy. So where can you turn GPS off ?
Thanks for the help

Don't worry, GPS isn't enabled unless you install the VRSerial driver (which aint easy....). Even then, it's only turned on when an application specifically opens the GPS comm port.

Hi Sleuth255,
thanks for the help on this issue. I do not indent to install VRSerial. I do have an external GPS mouse which is fine for me.

I recently upgraded and it was a major improvement for me. Far fewer dropped calls, better reception, etc.
I have noticed a noticeable decrease in in-call volume...is this an issue with this rom? At max volume, I have trouble hearing in a noisey environment...never had this problem before.
RUU_1.35.00.11_radio_only.exe wants to connect to the internet?
I upgraded my radio rom yesterday and kept the installation file, RUU_1.35.00.11_radio_only.exe, on my laptop. I downloaded the file with the link supplied in the wiki page.
Now today I get a warning from my f-secure saying that the exe file “RUU_1.35.00.11_radio_only.exe” wants to connect to the internet. I clicked deny and it kept trying to connect four more times then it stopped. I scanned the file for viruses and Trojans but F-Secure didn’t find any.
Anyone else had the same problem or perhaps knows whats going on?

Official Bell Mobility GPS/aGPS Discussion Thread

Please post all discussion/issues/comments regarding Bell Mobility GPS/aGPS in this thread.
aGPS locking up
I'm running Bell, dcd 3.2.5, radio 3.42.50 with aGPS working just fine, for a while. After a couple of times of turning the screen off (Power button), or standby, or whatever you call that mode...TomTom 7.450 (and GPStoday and Intelligolf all latest versions) stop locking via aGPS. Normally I get locks in 5-10 seconds with all these programs but afterwards I get nothing. TomTom shows satellites but won't lock on to any of them.
Please ask me questions if I missed anything. Any ideas?
I used to have the same issue. I upgraded to dcd 3.2.6. Still with radio 3.42.50. I also did the aGPS setting enable per another thread. Since then, I no longer have that problem. I get quick satellite fixes for days on end without the need to soft reset.
Power mangement
Hi all,
easy fix, I had the same issue. It is the power management. Once you put your phone to stand by the GPS will not come back up unless you use Quick GPS (don't know why but it bring is out of standby) or you can do the following regedit.
In the regestry I found these settings for power management.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Interfaces]
"{EB91C7C9-8BF6-4a2d-9AB8-69724EED97D1}"="Power-manageable display"
"{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}"="Power-manageable NDIS miniports"
"{8DD679CE-8AB4-43c8-A14A-EA4963FAA715}"="Power-manageable block devices"
"{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"="Generic power-manageable devices"
Each one of the {} strings are an IClass for other device including the GPS. The one found in the GPS was this "{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}. When I deleted the IClass string out of the following keys, you are now able to put your phone to standby and the GPS will keep running.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]
"IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SerialGPS]
"IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"
Thanks for the info guys! I'll try deleting the registry items first and see what happens.
AGPS and Data usage
Hi, I am hoping someone can answer this for me, does AGPS use data, is it costing me money to use it? I have read many posts and still I am confused. I am using dcd rom 3.2.6, radio 3.42.50 PRI 2.02_007. Thanks
I noticed a significant decrease in lock times after going to PRI 2.02_007, FWIW.

Yes, by default the assisted mode will request to transfer small amounts of data (download satellite ephemeris data) over the network everytime the GPS is initiated and when satellite coverage is obscurred (location determination from a IP defined assistance server).
I have confirmed this with my online data summary with Telus.
Thanks for the for the help.

About 10 seconds. It was way longer before. Sometimes a few mintues.
I'm running DCD 3.2.6 with radio 3.42.50 and PRI 1.34_007. I have ridiculous lock times most of the time. I don't use QuickGPS or anything else other than Google Maps. I've waited minutes sometimes to get a lock. I live in Milton, ON, and use GPS typcially anywhere in that area and the GTA (Toronto) area. I don't use GPS all that often and perhaps that's why is slow to lock each time I try and use it?
Regarding the PRI comment made earlier in this thread. I'm curious how you upgrade your PRI? I've tried the "Update PRI" icon in Settings | Connections, and although it reboots after doing something it's always the same rev afterwards. It also returns an error after it tries to update and prior to the reboot -"backup EFS failed" in a window with a window title of "PPST". Tap okay to that window and the phone soft reboots and nothing has changed.
I also could not update PRI using the icon provided by DCD. He provided the attached cab version in another post. You will have to install it on your device, then run /windows/ppst.exe
Also, be sure to do the GPS fix found at this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix
These 2 things should fix your lock times.

A-GPS works in 5.08 leaked AT&T ROM

I think this is important enough to warrant it's own thread - a heads up to anyone cooking ROM's!
Firstly, in the changelog, there's a fix for P4600 fails NI-SUPL (!!!)
NI is Network Initiated, this fix is probably related to E-911, SUPL-NI is typically triggered via SMS. Apparently a side effect of this is that MS-BASED and MS-ASSISTED SUPL modes both now work too (GPSMode registry key, 1=MS-ASSISTED, 2=MS-BASED, 3=MS-STANDALONE)
3 significant changes that I note are a new radio ROM version, and agpsnvsetting (registry key) is set to 1 instead of 5.. quickgps is updated also.
Anywho, somewhere inbetween these changes, QuickGPS now successfully transfers the A-GPS TLS Certificate to the chipset (i don't recall seeing this happen successfully before, certificate name is suplrootcert and can be found in \OEM\OperatorPkg)
Code:
18:24:35 [D:GPS] GPS: [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] Using AGPS settings from registry.
18:24:35 [D:GPS] [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] MCC = 310, MNC = 410
18:24:35 [D:GPS] [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] wGPSDynamicURL = h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org
18:24:35 [D:GPS] GPS: [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] Transferred from [h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org] to [209.183.32.112]
18:24:35 [D:GPS] GPS: [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] NEW ServerIP = 209.183.32.112
Anywho, I haven't tested beyond this configuration, but for anyone not on AT&T's network, you should be able to cook a ROM with these drivers from 5.08, the quickgps package, the suplrootcert, use the accompanying radio rom, and change the SUPL servers to something public (supl.nokia.com maybe)
It certainly warrants further scrutiny, but i'm almost positive A-GPS is functioning as it should have since day one now
I might suggest grabbing the AT&T ROM or my modified one here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/205473951/ATT-5.08-nocert-24mbPP-lite-new.ddi-v2.rar
and changing the values in the registry here to match your APN/Connection Name/SUPL Server (try supl.nokia.com/66.35.236.25/port 7275):
edit: supl.sonyericsson.com/212.209.45.84/port 7275 is also public
note all SUPL servers should utilize port 7275 - it is the IANA registered port (reference here: http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers) - also all SUPL servers should support the 1.0 standard which appears to be what's in use.
EDIT: It appears the domain name registration on 3gppnetwork.org, supl.nokia.com, supl.sonyericsson.com has expired and these URL's are no longer valid; the ONLY remaining functional public SUPL server i'm aware of is IP 209.183.32.112 - remove all hostnames from your /SUPL AGPS key.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
"APN"="wap.cingular"
"DynamicURL"="h-slp.mnc000.mcc111.pub.3gppnetwork.org"
"GPRSConnection"="MEdia Net"
"Network"="MEdia Net"
"ServerIP"="199.88.233.169"
"ServerPort"=dword:00001c6b
"ServerURL"="h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org"
"TLSHostName"="h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org"
Who knows, it might even work with the default server if you just change the APN, GPRSConnection, and Network to match yours..
sounds great!
anyone up for cabbing this properly?

Yes, you are correct. AGPS is working for me using a custom rom built off the leaked rom. I've been playing around with it for a couple of days now trying to figure out if I'm crazy or not. So, if I am crazy, that makes two of us now. previously I could not turn on AGPS without crashing my iGO and now this is working as well. They, being AT&T have finally resolved the issue or I have completely lost my mind. Both options are not entirely unlikely.

but have you noticed any changes regarding fix speed or whatever?
I've only had the patience to hard reset 3 times, but i've gotten a sub 15 second fix each time This is indoors where it has taken over 15 minutes to get a fix before. And 2-5 minute fixes are common. I made sure to clear all epheremis data etc. as i've done in previous gps tests.
I doubt the fix was on AT&T's side, they don't do much if actual programming, largely just submit requests to HTC.. the fix on their end would be to get the SUPL server working where it wasn't before, but then the older AT&T ROM would now be working too..

For me, this latest radio is by far the best. 2nd best is any Blackstone radio. I am going a solid 3 days and no ATW, I'm not switching off 3G. This is everday use mind you. I don't do a lot of surfing, but I have 3 email accounts checking every hour, a lot of mms/sms messages and maybe 5-10 calls a day. This usage is typical for me.
Regardless of that though, the point is that AGPS is working correctly or at the very least, it seems to work. That to me is the major deal.
Edit:
I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you my location. Middle to lower East Coast, USA.
Good stuff, I'll have to try it out later.
I'm using your clean ROM Da_G and I will try GPS on my way home.
I still had speed lag when I used the leaked ROM though, but my fixes did seem faster.

Over the .32 radio I am having excellent luck with battery. Instead of ending the day at about 8pm (from 5am) with about 20-30% battery life, I'm ending in the 40% now. I do a lot of bluetooth calls, heavy SMS, and constant activesync push email with about 50 emails a day. Needless to say, the radio and the Energy ROMs have turned my fuze from not making it till 8pm, to making me not even worry about playing a bit of youtube on the train on the way home.

I am using Arup's v5 and I am seeing these great results as well. I am on the latest BS radio .16 with RIL to match. Checkout my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3418334&postcount=147
I'm running the 1.12.25.19 Radio and RRE v5. I can confirm that AGPS is working with this combo. Typical indoor lock of < 10 seconds, outdoor lock < 5 seconds.
I still have lag though. Driving at 30 MPH, I measure the lag to be in the range of 2-3 seconds in Google Maps, OCN8, and Garmin Mobile XT. That translates to a range of about 90-140 ft. (25-40 meters). Lag has been a constant for me. All of the combinations of Raphael radios, ROMs, and registry tweaks that I've tried have still resulted in the same lag.
Just using the new stock leaked rom, I can also confirm that I'm getting under 10 second locks consistently, and I haven't ran into 1 instance where I haven't been able to get a lock. Prior to this I haven't been able to get locks at all without running GPSTest for around a minute or so and then starting up my GPS software. It's absolutely amazing!
Da_g anyyway you can do this:

Without doing any kitchen work? There a way you can just insert the drivers using a patched NK.exe and then put this in w/e it is lol "suplrootcert"

Thanks for the info! I am on the latest RAPH radio .19. I read that Arup is using the latest .19 rilphone.dll so I performed a hard reset and enabled AGPS and now all is great! Indoor gps lock in 15-20 seconds! I guess I didn't need to do the whole rename rilphone2.dll and registry changes, maybe that is what messed me up in the first place.

Are you using the rilphone2.dll file and registry tweak? I and others seem to have had great improvements in lag when applying this

GPS Issue, could use advice

R 3.42.50
D 3.3.4
Verizon Service
I've been running on this awhile. A few weeks ago, I noticed that my GPS just stopped working. Ie meaning that it was working before, and I made zero changes and now none of the GPS applications can detect that there is a GPS.
I'm looking for the most painless recommendation that I can do to get it working.
A. Do I need to flash a new radio rom and then do another set of the GPSFix using the windows tools again?
B. Do I need to upgrade both the rom and radio at the same time (ugh ...)
C. Is there another reason for the fact it no longer works, such as the IP address changed for assisted GPS or anything and I could just change it?
Anything you can offer would help. I went through a few pages of the 70+ page posts here on these subjects but couldnt find anything relating to prior working phones randomly stop working.
I will say that my friend is also on Verizon, has a mogul, I think he has a similiar radio and firmware and his has stopped working as well, so my guess is something has change carrier side and we're just not in the know =)
Thanks in advance for any points, and no flames for not being magical and finding the right post with the answer already in it ..
I just went through the latest updates to the AGPS article at:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix
I have updated the IP address to the one listed there (mine was different), and still no luck.
Working now. Had to restart it twice, turn location on and off and on again, and then let it sit for awhile. I just didnt have the patience.

Titan / xv6800 GPS : I'm at my wit's end

Any ideas how to get GPS going? I've tried multiple roms, messing with QPST, following wiki, different cabs / reg settings, and I can't get anything.
There does seem to be some NMEA data flying around on COM4, but it is lines like $GPR,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, , no GPS data in it.
I have tried many different programs, never getting even one satellite in view.
Currently system is:
ROM: dcd 3.3.4
Radio 3.37.75
PRL version 51574
PRI version 1.35_002
I have been searching google, here, ppc forums, and HOFO for DAYS trying to get this to work.
(also I am wanting to get QNC internet working, that is a secondary goal though)
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Ok you are are with Verizon. And I bet you had MR1/2 before you went custom. The stock verizon rom blocks gps out with any custom rom afterwards. If you want a custom rom and gps then do the following roll back rom then go to custom again. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21161 Then apply gps settings. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3555579&postcount=703
The phone is activated on Page Plus, a MVNO that utilizes Verizon network. I got it from someone who used it on verizon.
When I first got it, I updated to latest "official" ROM, which I believe was MR2. I downloaded it from HTC's website.
I have just now tried to update my PRI using RadioRefurbish.exe but it does not seem to be working...
I will look at those things you posted. I had come across something mentioning that.. wasn't sure if it was what I needed to do or not.
**** Verizon. Ugh. Evil. Pure Evil.
Edit: I tried some Valhalla Legends, GPS Fix, blah blah other CAB files when I had MR2, with same results.
Ok, I have relocked device, and now I am loading the stock firmware.
What do I do after that? I can follow those steps. but... it does not seem complete information there on that link.
Do I install some version of valhalla, then do those steps?
Won't all that be lost on a hard reboot / ROM flash to custom ROM though?
Flashing to stock get you a 1.35 pri. You then can unlock, flash radio, and the go to which ever custom rom you like. The only thing is that i dont know if agps will work for you since you arent on verizon. But you so know agps requires a data package for use. You will have standalone gps without installing anyhting on the custom rom. I use standalone with no problems.
already have that pri as per my original post.
I was trying to get to the 2.x pri before.... do I not want that?
I also tried to flash a higher radio when I was on custom rom but it would not work.
So what do I do now, and in precisely what order?
.... right! Well, that makes it easy.
I unlocked again with 2.40, now I am trying to flash the latest version radio found on DCD's file server.
I flashed latest radio... unit hard reset, then afterwards I still have Radio 1.30.60 on device information screen.
If you could tell me step by step what I need to do, I would appreciate it.
Currently :
ROM version 2.09.605.8
rom date 05 03 07
radio 1.30.60
PRI version 1.35_002
GPS is now somewhat working, I haven't gotten a lock yet. Also haven't gone outside yet, might have something to do with it.
Now to get aGPS working.
Except DCD sucks, and QPST doesn't work in half his ROMs. Sigh. I'll have to find a decent ROM to use so I can get aGPS and QNC internet working.
Thanks for your help drewcam888, it set me on the right path to getting where I am now.
DCd is awesome and qpst works on all this roms. You must have a carrier cab installed to allow use of ## codes.
I believe you are mistaken. Why can I not connect then? I have installed Verizon Carrier cab. Com4 is showing up as "NO PHONE". Before it showed my phone.
I took my sister to breakfast this morning. On the way there, no GPS lock. Sigh. Sats in view, but only using one or two.
I shut down phone, then rebooted.
After eating inside, I fired up VisualGPSCE again. After only a few brief moments, locks on 7 satellites. Then it went back and forth between 6 and 10 locks.
Awesome!
So, either ephemeris was finally downloaded, or aGPS is working. Unsure which.
I loaded google maps, turned on satellite view, and the satellite imagery overlay correctly showed me on the south end of the restaurant. Cool stuff. GM claimed 30 meters accuracy, but it had to be much better. I would estimate 1-5.
I am wondering if this gpsOne chip is sensitive enough to use for geocaching. That would be cool.
Dude it isnt always on com 4. I have had it on com 10 and many others. Click add a port and find the diagnostic port. Don't blame others for your lack of knowledge. Your computer assigns this port and it can change.
The gps should be accurate to 1-2 meters I would think. But only is clear view of sky where you can find the most satellites.
There are no diagnostic ports to add.
Lack of knowledge my ass.
Google will reveal many others with the same issue.
Now unable to authentic my phone on Verizon.. just tried to make a call. Weird since apparently data and SMS both work.
Well I have gotten qpst to work on 3.2.5, 3.2.6, 3.3.4, and 4.1.2. So yes you are having a problem. It isn't with the rom. Are you sure you are dialing ##3424 send to enter diagnostics mode
Can you elaborate on how you have done this?
I go to add a port in QPST, but there are no ports to add in the left column.
Yes I am sure I am entering diagnostics mode.
I open QPST configuration. Then select "add new port". Then find which port my phone is on. Also are you using XP? I am guess you have the modem drivers installed being that you have used qpst before.
Yes, and yes.
There are no additional ports to add listed.
hmm. Maybe a computer problem. Do you see the phone listed under com ports under device manager. If not your computer isnt seeing your phone for some reason.
Under comp mgmnt there is HTC USB modem (with a yellow ! reinstalling drivers now)
Then there is a HTC diagnostic interface on COM4.
I can confirm that aGPS is working, since when I turn on GPS with GPS toggle, I instantly get a network logon request.
My akey has been deleted, that's why it doesn't automatically connect with EVDO.
See dont blame others. Ask questions and get answers before you accuse.
