Storage Card Slot Problem..what should i do? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Accessories

hi guys,
recently i had a problem with my card slot, first it was very good reading all storage cards then it started reading it sometimes and sometimes not then suddenly it cannot read a single storage card.
the thing is i have no idea if my wife did put the storage card upside down, but i know i did not mess with it.
any ideas on what to , is it an IC problem or need to replace the whole slot?

i don't think so, you should format your SD card to FAT, it is used for BA

If the SD card works Ok in other device... there are 2 lateral metalic parts:
- to detect if the card is read only
- To detect if the card is there (the bottom one)
See if they are OK if the bottom one fails... it does not detect the card.
If you cannot fix it by yourself, try the guys from http://www.apexlaptops.co.uk/
I broke 2 times my SD card reader and sent them for repair.. (bit expensive) but fixed OK.
But now I think the only problem those times was the bottom lateral metal thing.
Good exploration

Atrix SD-Card Issues

Finally got the 16 gig sd card I ordered for my atrix. Popped it in. Phone doesn't recognize it.
Tried the 8 gig out of my nexus one. Same issue.
Anyone else have this issue? Am I doing something wrong? Time to exchange the phone?
Try power cycling the phone with the SD card installed.
There's a note in the online manual somewhere, you're supposed to MOUNT and FORMAT the sdcard before first time use.
I'm using a 16gb microsdhc that was formatted previously. Didn't issue the mount command, but the phone is using it with no complaints.
Mount. Format. Wait for 32gb prices to drop.<G>
I used 32GB Sandisk SD card & worked perfectly fine. I don't have to format the card to use it.
16gb adata here. no issues. was already formatted and loaded with music and pictures after being used in captivate.
I found that I had an issue with the small brass contacts that tell the phone that there is a card inserted. Drove me nuts.
as you hold the card right-side up (card slots at bottom) at the bottom left edge of the sd slot, between the sd and sim, you will see the two brass contacts.
With no sd card in, put enough pressure on them to give better tension - not too much else it might think you always have a card in.
no more problems for me - hope for you as well
32GB sandisk class 4 no issues here
I had a similar issue. I thought it wasn't recognizing my card but it actually wasn't properly contacting the SD-card slot. I got it to work with some adjusting.
Same, purchased Sandisk 32GB .. inserted, powered on, unmounted, formatted, waited about 2 minutes and then mounted .. no issues ..
bad sd socket / slot
hi,
I had the same problem using my 8gb sandisk microSD, that I previously used in my old Nokia. It wouldn't recognize that it was even inserted. I tried pulling it out and inserting again it several times without any luck, until I tried inserting it and drawing it as far out as the plastic flip that holds it in would let me. Then it worked right away, -no need for formatting or even mounting.
I had problems with a PNY card. Atrix would not see it at all to mount, unmount, format.............anything. I ended up removing and reinstalling the card with the phone powered on just as a "what if" and it popped up right away. I was able then to format and mount and have had no issues since.

[Q] SD card not being recognized

Hey all,
So i go to check for a file on my sd card today and i noticed that the phone can't find it. I double check that it is snuggly plugged in, but nothing shows up. I placed the sd card in my old captivate and that reads it fine.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt
EDIT** it seems that no sd card is being recognized by the phone, almost like its turned off?
An issue with the phones SD card connectors has been reported here in a couple of the SD card threads. The fix is to turn off the phone, remove the SD card, and using a pin or tiny screw driver carefully bend the two connectors that normally press up against the contacts on the SD card. Just don't bend them too much. Put the SD cardback, in power up the phone and you should be good.
Thanks for the reply, i got the phone off and the sd card out and i'm trying to look at the connectors but with the metal strip that holds the sd card on, its hard to see the connectors / get to them. Any tips on that?
EDIT** well i thought i broke it haha, but it's actually working now
Thanks =)

Hot swapping micro SD cards....

Hi all....
Going on hols on Thurs and am taking an additional spare (class 4) 16gb microSD card, to go with the 32gb class 10 in my GS3 atm, as I'm planning on doing a lot of 720p cam stuff + pics, which can quickly swallow up storage on cards....
I've also got a USBOTG cable and a few pen drives filled with movies, music vids etc for the plane that I could also use if need be....
My question is about the hot-swapping of microSD cards on the S3. As it's now just a case of removing the battery cover to get access to the card; what is the correct procedure for swapping out the cards without causing any data corruption....is it simply, remove batt cover - eject card - insert new card....or do you have to unmount it via' Storage' in the phone's settings first....??
Ta for any advice....
Unmount first.
As for the rest, it's as you described.
Defintely unmout the SD card first then remove it (Not sure if you will have to remount the new one or if it will do it automatically).
K....thought so - just thought I'd check! Thanks for the quick answer both
Definitely unmount in storage first, or you'll find out the hard way (like me) that it can fry an SD card quite easily. Ruined a brand new 64GB card by just popping it out :silly:

[Q] Phone water damaged, cannot mount Micro SD any longer?

Long story short, my phone suffered a bit of water damage. Everything is operational except for my MicroSD card reader. It will detect when I have a Micro SD inside of the slot, but it will NOT mount it no matter what. I've formatted it to every format I could think of and still nothing. I've also tried multiple Micro SD's. Any advice?
It will also occasionally mount and detected storage and such, but not want to write to it.
Replace the sd/sim reader, how else would you repair hardware failure?

Wasn't necessarily sure if it was hardware failure or not.
One last question, does the i747 and the I9300 have the same sim/sd reader?

Micro SD card doesn't stuck

When I put my Micro SD card in the phone All's ok (I hear the "click") but then it get out, the only way to keep it inside the phone is forcing the cover (with Micro SD card inside) with the finger, but after some minutes or hours it open again and the Micro SD get out again.
Please help!

The lock could be faulty, you need to send it for opening and checking
