Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way to tweak the registry in order to make Messenger and Internet Explorer unusable. These programs are installed in the ROM and are impossible to remove so I wonder if there was at least a way to prevent their usage. We have some power users of Athenas that (unfortunately?) do too much of Messenger and browsing and 3G costs!
Thanks for the help, John
I 'm not sure if there is a tweak, however after a hard reset of the device the software can be used again.
Maybe you should ask your ISP if they can help by blocking things for specific users.
I would read in the AP Kitchen thread, I havent read much of it, or ever tried, but I think that thread helps you build a custom rom version...I think you could either do it yourself or ask for someone to help with either creating a special rom for you without the programs, or removing IE and messaging from a specific rom for you. If you did it that way, there would be no traces of IE or messenger and they wouldnt really be able to download anything to it without explorer.
Thanks Touch,
Where is the AP Kitchen thread that you mentioned? I can't find it.
BTW I didn't know that it was possible to build a custom ROM without IE and Messenger. I thought that only HTC could do it..
John
hi,
but if you create a rom without the messenger, any user is capable to install it...
the best solution is to disable the gprs access via the phone service provider.

Hi, i am working in a projecto form wm2003. The customer wants to know if exists any users managment in the operative system, independent of the application that we are developing. for example, the customer want that when the pda starts the user enters a user and a password and if the fails for 10 times then the pda is hard resetted. Do you know something about it? may be some utility? some api of the OS?. Could we develop a tool tha substitute the tipical 4 digists security pin of wm2003?. Thankss
please DO NOT post your Q to every topic - it is really annoying
by the way: in one of your topic you'll find my answer to your question...
so, nothing personal...
cheers,
ym
looks like You are searching for
http://www.pdadefense.com/products.asp
but...
but if someone hard resets the pda then this software will be erased and he will use the pda
You could set the xda 2 so that the program auto loaded from extended rom after hard reset, you could even store the data for the program in the extended rom also. There is also the storage area in flash rom that is not erased when hard reset.
Hi folks,
I've really been trying to find the information I'm asking for. So please just tell me if my questions have been asked before
I'm using the unbranded Tytn with Eplus (ger). The device itself works and I wouldn't change anything about the software if it wasn't for Active Sync. I sometimes have to end it with the Task Manager and start it again before it will sync anything. He doesn't even connect to the Exchange server. Sometimes there's the message "waiting for network" (or similar, own translation). Sometimes there simply NO message at all (where he usually says "looking for changes", etc.
Finally he claims the host is unreachable - other applications (Pocket IE, e.g.) don't see a problem getting their packets out.
This is great with Push Mail. As far as I can say he gets his problems when I'm moving (driving car, even when going to the other side of a building): He changing the cell phone masts. He loses his connection and is uncapable of regaining it.
Does anyone know this problem? And if, is it fixed by any update? I'd say since it seems to be an application-only problem upgrading the windows rom should be enough, shouldn't it?
And how can I use the rom from Vodafone with my original extended rom to keep my provider settings?
First of all try the EXtROM unlocker to make sure it works on your current ROM or look for your ExtROM on the Wiki.
If you can unlock your or if your ExtROM is on the Wiki then you can just update the windows ROM. When the ROM is updated and you go through the initial setup, wait for it to say it will install some additional programs. Hit soft eset before the timer counts down to the install of the ExtROM to stop it.
Then use the ExtROM unlocker and delete all the stuff in there. Then put your ExtROM contents in there. Next, either run the ExtROM stuff manually or I usually do a hard reset and let the device do it automatically.
If that doesn't fix your connection problems I would suggest exchanging it for a new one if possible.
I also like the fact you refer to your TyTN as a 'He.'

hehe
I use the Imate 1.20 ROM with the Softbank ExtROM that autoinstalled after I replaced them and did a hard reset. I also did it previously with the HTC ROMs.
then it should work fine since all those cabs came from the carrier. but i meant for say installing ms voice command

I think since its capabilities to frustrate his owner this devices definitely have to have a soul. Or are at least living somehow.
Okay, I have to admit, "she" would be more appropriate in this case, but...
I'm still used to the update procedures from my old Qtek 9090, where the rom, radio and ext were in 3 seperate image files and where you could just delete those you didn't want to be upgraded.
I wasn't sure if I would have had all the Vodafone stuff and couldn't reverse it. But you seem quite sure that their individual stuff is in the Ext I'll have a try tonight.
My Ext can be downloaded from the site. So I can skip extracting it.
By the way: I the ftp server sometimes down? I couldn't connect yesterday from home. Now, from work, it works fine and fast.
No, didn't really work. I've got the impression that it is a little bit more reliable, but what is a push mail service that can't provide at least 99% availability? If I have to look at my phone every hour to make sure Active Sync is still doing what it is supposed to do.
I've not heard of many people experiencing this problem, but since it is only Active Sync (other programs don't have this problem) I don't see what I would get by having the phone replaced... ?
Hello,
I have seen a lot of threads talking about sms reliability, but nothing about this, perhaps someone will have a clue.
I noticed I didnt received any sms since one days or more, and someone told me he sent me a sms, then I started to search on google etc. In fact, it seems that when someone send me a sms, the phone seems to wake up (backlight), but nothing happens (no sms notification, no sound, and no sms at all).
Anyone has got this problem ? Something to do with some HTC patch ? If yes, how can I know if my reseller included this patch or not in the stock phone ?
My config (stock):
RADIO 2.07.51.22_2
ROM 1.72.73.3
Protocol 15.32.50.07U
HTC Manila Core 2.5.20121433.0
System 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
NB: Apparently, I checked and I am able to send SMS without trouble. It appears also that after a restart, I can receive some sms (for how long ?), but I never get the missing ones, and impossible to know when the problem occurs...
*bump*
problem reproduced, no clue about how to correct this
if anyone has an idea, please let me know (or an idea to debug this)
perhaps collateral effect of a registry change, or related to CHT ?
I had this problem once ...I flashed the radio in my signature and installed the messaging client from HERE...I'm not sure which one solved the sms problem but right now my phone works brilliantly...Yet to find a convincing enough reason to flash a custom ROM except to get a new look interface.
Before you attempt to flash the radio make sure you read the thread about flashing radio/ROM VERY CAREFULLY.
The messaging client also has specific instructions to install which are detailed in the thread.
Were you able to solve or figure out what the problem was?
I have a problem. When I am abroad I get error messages all the time because my phone is looking for a GPRS signal. I searched the forum and found a possible solution in the NoData application from Modaco. I installed it but only got an error message when trying to open it. Following the suggestions in some forum, I have now also installed the SDA Application Unlocker and the Modaco GPS and Hack unlocker. To no avail, it seems, for I still get the same error message when trying to open NoData.
Can someone help me?
I also have a second, unrelated, problem - it seems that the voice recorder only records onto the inbuilt memory and not onto the storage card. I find no solution for this.
do you have net framework installed? try 3.5 compact framework for mobile devices.
You can always go into connections under Settings and erase all your APNs, that way the phone has nothing to try to dial out to, and will stop giving you an error.

Thank you! What is an APN though?
I don't know if I have net framework installed, will try to find and install it?
Thanks!
An APN is an access point name, the number your phone dials into in order to recieve data services from your provider. And yeah, search the forums for .net 3.5 and install it.

If you have a stock ROM, you probably need to install .Net Framework. If you have a custom ROM, you can check with the ROM chef to see if they added it. Often, this is noted in the first few posts of the thread.
I believe the in-call recording goes to device memory on purpose. Writing to SD while in call is problematic. Copy resulting file to SD card afterwards.
Hi, i need help and i hope that someone here can help me, im currently infested by a virus or malware that keeps on coming back, it never stop it always install itself
and it has the capability to
1. read phone status and identity
2. location
3. modify/delete contents
4. find accounts on device
5. download files WITHOUT notification
6.retrieve running app and run at startup
7. draw over other apps
8. read sync settings
it looks very dangerous it could steal info from my phone, based on my research those who are infected by this app also receives msgs with links and it seems that the phone itself created that message and sends to itself
right now i have no idea on how to remove this problem, also rooting is impossible currently because my phone is not supported on any rooting services and i yes i tried everything, emailed them if they supports rooting my phone and they all say no.
i was able to grab a copy of the enginee app in apk format maybe someone is interested on simulating it on an emulator (im doing it right now actually)
wow, very friendly "developers"
