Bigger Buttons in Start Menu Dropdown - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

It would nearly eliminate the need for a launcher and make it easy to operate with fingers. kinda easy to use button and scrollwheel, but large icons would be easier to see.
anyone else interested or know if its possible?

Try this. It Will enlarge your Start Menu. ( I am not the creator of this CAB, but it does work for the Titan and Touch.
Hope this is what you needed

and the link please????
disregard, i searched for it.
but i was thinking even bigger - if they can be made that much bigger, it must be possible to make them even larger?

I uploaded it on my previous post. Sorry about the error.

[New Touch Dialer Skin!]Tired of Gray?! Here is a new Look

Hi,
For all of you who doesn't like the gray color or are tired of the same old touch look, I made a new dialer skin. If you have PDVIET 4.0.0.0.6 or you have installed touch style dial pad, all you have to do is to copy these files to your windows and soft reset. I don't have time to make a proper cab file, but feel free to make a cab file out of these and share it with us
oh by the way the dialer skin is only for portrait mode, later on I will make a landscape too.
I also installed the transparent home plug in icons, I uploaded them before, but I'm gonna upload them along my other files.all you have to do is copy all the .png files to your windows folder and soft reset.
I hope you like it
Nice. I've build cabs...
Hello,
is it possible to customize our own landscape and portrait background picture ?
regards,
(if so please specify which folder in the /windows)

If you want your home pluging Icons back, sorry i don't have them , you have to hard reset.
It is nice , but I found it too bright
it is not easy to see in the sunlight, may be with another text colour will be nicer
thanks for help
its nice, but if im gonna change the background picture im gonna have to change the buttons too, maybe you should remodel the dialer in a way that the background of the numbers is transparent ?

If you look closely at the buttons that i posted , they are transparent (look at the numbers) the thing is that i haven't found a dialer dll that supports transparent images. If you found a dialer that you could simply change the background image, let me know

Photoshop Files
Okay, I promised that I'm gonna make a dialer skin so that everybody can change it just by changing one background image! well i tried and I didn't succeed. but for those of you who know Adobe Photoshop, I attached the psd file so you can use it to make your own dialer. all you have to do is to change the background layer and save your file as a png file. If you don't know Photoshop just don't bother, I really can't explain further. also you have to overwrite the button images with the images in the zip file. If you know Photoshop and you want to make a dialer for yourself, look at my psd file, trust me it will help feel free to share your creative dialer skins with us

Touch and touchlike dialers
Guys, hdialerere is my 2 cents about the touch (and derived) dialers
Positive: nice big buttons
Negative:
1) The photo is awfully small, even smaller than in the standard wm6 dialer
2) 2 buttons are missing: speed dial and history. You have to open these functions with options. not funny
3) There is still some space left on top that can be used.
I hope that someone can make a dialer with these buttons and with a bigger photo. Thx.

Thank you hma4! Excellent work all around. Question: I run linux and have access to GIMP which can do many of the things Photoshop can...is the layer method supported in GIMP as well? I'm wondering if there is a step by step tutorial on the net somewhere and willing to google for it...always willing to learn something new although I am in no way or shape an artist.

GIMP opens psd files and also supports layers. for tutorial for GIMP you can visit here: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
here is what you can do, try to open the .psd file that I uploaded couple of posts above, then if you could see my file in different layers then you can work your way from there. you have to make 3 .png files, namely:
Progress_BkgdP.png
Dialer_BkgdP.png
indialer_ps.png
all you have to do is look at those layers, one of them is the background image, try to change that to what ever you like, another layer is the button masks so you have to overlap that on your background, and finally save the file in .png format with the names that I mentioned.
I really can't write a thorough tutorial for this, I think if you spend a little time you can figure it out all by yourself.
Good luck don't forget to share your creative work with us

[RES]Default Keyboard Skins - VGA - msim.192.dll.0409.mui[RES]

I prefer using the default Windows Mobile soft keyboard, but I can't stand the ugly Windows Mobile 5.0 color scheme that Microsoft still uses by default.
Attached to this e-mail are all of the keyboard skins that I could find on the Internet. They have been scaled to VGA (192 dpi) and included in the msim.192.dll.0409.mui resource file for cooking into your ROM.
I'm afraid I didn't keep track of the original authors, so props go out to all those folks who created the originals.
These will only work for 0409 (English International). The mui is a resource replacement file for the original msim.192.dll. Simply include the file in your ROM (\Windows) and the new resources will be used in place of the original. Feel free to drop them into \Windows before cooking to see how they look.
Simply rename the included file to msim.192.dll.0409.mui (example: change msim.192.dll.0409.BasicBlack.mui to msim.192.dll.0409.mui).
If anybody has any more they want to include, feel free to add to this thread.
Note: there are actually 25 skins in the ZIP, but I couldn't add snapshots for all 25 to this post. I have attached another ZIP containing the original source files if you want to see them before copying them to your phone.

That looks like OSXGraphite, which is included in my archive above. I actually made up a hybriid of graphite that keeps the dark grey special keys with lighter colored letter keys. I think I called it GraphiteAlt. It's included as well.

I think your talkin about "3d" keyboard skin. I think its called that. I think I have it somewhere among all my files, but is for QVGA
You know what would be really awesome, is if someone would skin the Full Qwerty keyboard to resemble the TP2 one. I started doing someting with it, but got busy all of a sudden
By the way, don;t want to flame or anything, but this thread might be better in Development & Hacking or Raphael Software/Themes. Good job on the skins. I'm gonna use the graphite I think, even though I have never even used the small keyboard. Nice to know its there.
Id like to have a new layout for the WM dialer. That would be really nice.

Thanks for the skins trueg. I prefer to only use wm onscreen keyboard because it offers better processes for word suggestion.
I've been trying to cook the stock US diamond WM soft keyboard into my fuze becuz I like the layout much better, and the keys are a little bigger, but for some reason i still end up with the fuze wm soft keyboard. Can anyone assist or provide correct files to do this?? Much appreciated thx!

Ya, I try to eliminate as many 3rd party apps as I can. Since I have a real keyboard (Touch Pro), I can't say I use the soft keyboard much at all, so keeping the stock WM soft keyboard is ideal for me (less memory). I wanted to change the colors though, because when I do use it, I didn't like the ugly WM 5.0 blue/green of the original.

Edit the files
Hi, i am looking for a way to edit these files ( to make em look prettier ) but even after thourough searching i cannot really find a way to do so. perhaps someone can help me out. or at least give me a bump in the right direction. I found the skins from post one realy nice but they seem to be meant for older divices as the letters on the keyboards arent't really sharp and the general graphics a bit outdated.
THANK YOU!! i've been looking for these for fuze.. now i can complete my rom
Indeed, there hasn't been much effort in making new default keyboard skins. Most folks simply use 3rd party soft keyboards. Many of them were made 2 to 4 years ago. They are also scaled up from QVGA versions, so they are not as sharp as they could be.
I'm not much of a graphic designer, but I wanted to get a thread started so people with graphical abilities could contribute, although that hasn't really happened.
All of the resource files are simply bitmaps (BMP) so they can be created or edited with pretty much any graphics program (I like GIMP). Simply grab a copy of Resource Hacker http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/, download one of the mui files, extract the bmp, edit it until your hearts content and then replace the original resource with your new one.

Development Request - Keyboard idea

Hi all,
I had an idea for a better keyboard for the streak, but I can't find any step-by-step walkthroughs for making android keyboards. If there's one available, let me know and I should be able to tackle this.
If not, I think the streak needs a split keyboard. Imagine the left half of the keyboard on the left third of the screen, the right half on the right third, and a big numpad/d-pad in the middle third. When I'm typing in landscape mode, I know I'd appreciate minimizing my thumbs' reach.
Any takers? Or good keyboard making tutorials?

I thought the same thing when i first got my streak.

Great Idea!
If someone does make one you should add settings so you can control where the DPAD is, so you could make it like the original Dell Keyboard too!
I'm guessing you've not tried swype then?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
While we're on the subject of thumb reach, might I suggest a portrait keyboard with more keys on the left/right side, so you don't constantly mis-type those O's and P's as a leftie (for example), when using the streak one-handed?
I was thinking of a real multitouch keyboard.
First, you have the standard qwerty keyboard, with shift, enter en dpad buttons. A tab button would be cool too.
Second, if you tap and hold the keyboard (anywhere) and slide it to the left, on the right side it will reveal the nummeric keys, where you can input your numbers. Releasing the keyboard and it'll slide back in position. Slidng the other way around, gives other keys.
I'm dreaming of such a keyboard a long time now.
Someone?

Hi guys- I don't know of any tutorials, but basically you need to create a custom IME (that's the term used by Android SDK). There is an android SDK example for creating an IME I believe. Also, here is the source code for a Latin keyboard IME someone made:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/inputmethods/LatinIME.git;a=summary
+1 to the initial idea.
Myself and my office mate were just discussing UI's and both of us agreed that a split keyboard option would make the streak far more ergonomically friendly and probably speed up typing.
BTW, for mocked up examples of what we are talking about see:

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/4/2010/01/ss_dialkeys_horiz_520.jpg
I would really love to see a keyboard like this!
Dell's 1.6 stock keyboard makes good use of the additional space instead of just making the buttons ridiculously large, but it really should be symmetric.
With smartphones getting larger and tablets on the rise it's high time for new keyboards, so I think not only the Streak would benefit from it!
All thumbs up for the idea!
Here's an idea: find a developer and start up a kickstart for this... Perhaps we could post this to the general android development forum.
Basic Version
Hey all,
Here's a basic version. It's just a slightly modified version of the soft keyboard that comes with the SDK. It's only usable it in landscape mode, unless you have really small fingers.
Any thoughts/ideas/feedback? Basic changes may be within my ability. A lot of the programming is way over my head, so if anyone wants the source to do some fancy stuff, let me know.

Works fine i would just prefer the buttons to be a bit bigger about double the size infact and would like the numbers on the end and not in the middle and the numbers a different colour but thats me other than that a great start thanks
Awesome! Some color / shading might help to distinguish between the letters and numbers and more easily find keys. May be its something you adjust to but i find myself having to search for letters.
Two other layout thoughts. 1) maybe stretching out the spacebar a bit. since thats a frequently pressed key it'd be nice to have it by the other letters and closer to the thumbs., 2) rearranging the numpad to have the zero at the bottom center as with a typical dialer numpad. This would require splitting the spacebar into two segments.
Just my 2 cents.

Here's the current state of things (as of the build above). I'm going to look more into changing the color of the number keys, but I don't think it's really as necessary with this layout. Any and all suggestions are welcomed, and I will let you know what I can/can't/will/won't do.

[Q] Hide the page indicator in TouchWiz

Hi there,
loving my new Galaxy but I don't really fancy the page indicator telling me what page of the home screen I am on. Any option to hide it? And no I wanna stick with TouchWiz so no other Launcher suggestions please ;-)
Thanks
DoubleYou
anybody any ideas?
Hmmm I'm curious about this too.....
Im still very n00b to android but off the top of my head im thinking about the possibility of getting into the touchwiz files and making the page indicator graphics transparent.
There's probably another, more efficient way than that but..... .
I've no idea if that's possible but I would certainly hope so. Ill be looking into theming this thing when I get my sgs2 and if I have any luck ill let you know.
I hate page indicators.......

I dont know if there are any differences between the touchwiz apks in different ROMS but to be on the safe side, upload the file "TouchWiz30Launcher.apk" from "/system/app" for me and I will get rid of that pesky page indicator for you.
Its not completely removed, it still works if you long press on it, its just invisible.

Afraid not. They are called into play by a line of code somewhere.
They can be disabled in the same way you would disable the names of apps displayed under the icons our another item of text. Its just a matter of finding the right line to tweak.

[Q] [Request] modified buttonbar/statusbar for 101

I was looking for some nice honeycomb touch for my 101. I already found a gingerbread framework wich looked very nice, however unfortunately my archos 101 gets bootloops everytime I try to install it.
I was wondering if its possible to move the buttonbar to the statusbar (with arctools maybe) and then move the bar to the bottom of the screen (as seen on honeycomb). I would also love to see the search icon removed, as its useless in my opinion.
Otherwise some help to get the framework from this post succesfully installed would be highly appreciated.

Moving the buttons to the notification bar is easy, just use urukconfig on uruk, or Arctools on stock.
I may be able to remove the search button as well by editing the virtualkeys files.
Moving the bar to the bottom though, I'll have to look into CM7 and see how they do it, but it may not be possible on froyo.

It looks like the virtualkeys files don't control the buttons once they've been moved to the notification bar. Not sure if I can remove buttons.
To move the bar to the bottom, CM7 did alot of java work. I can move it to the bottom, but I can't get it to expand upwards. I have to modify the logic in StatusBarService.java, particularly the performFling method on line 1159, but it's gonna be really hard. Not even sure if it will work with froyo. I'll keep trying.

Once you move the buttons into the notification bar, the icons change. These new icons are found in the "drawable" folder of the framework-res.apk eg stat_sys_back_p.png. There are also associated .xml files, but these just tell the system which icon to show when the button is pressed. Haven't yet found where the appearance (order, size etc) are controlled.

I'm still trying to duplicate the upwards fling. I've got it working sometimes, but when you hiccup or stop in mid fling, it gets stuck sometimes, usually causing a soft-reboot. See if you can find the button layout for me, I'll keep working on the bar itself.
