My Tale of Woe: Titan owner warning and assistance request - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I'm a new poster here and I'd like to share my story:
My problems with the Titan began with the Seidio Super Slim Rubberized Case. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE!! It widens the space between the keyboard and display pieces of the phone. It put so much stress on the slider carriage that the phone finally split into two pieces.
Store techs set me up with a warranty replacement which I took as an opportunity to flash a clean phone. First thing I noticed, there was no "void" sticker on the bottom left screw which leads me to believe it's a refurbished unit. I proceeded to flash anyway not using the kitchen but I flashed to dcd 2.2.3. Everything was cool but the "QWER" buttons on the keyboard were entering different text. Each were entering 2 letters when pressed. I tried installing the keyboardfix.cab but it was no help
This was unacceptable. I flashed back, then things got worse. Now the whole keyboard is off, no buttons enter text except for the letters x and m and some other seemingly random quirks. What should I do? Should I go in for another replacement or is there some way I can fix this? I've searched for hours on end and I could not get any help. Anyone?

you should exchange asap what carrier do you have as that will help us help you

they usually give u refurbs as replacement...i wud recommend just swapping it with another one...but make sure u have stock rom when u return

You can tell whether it is new or refurbished by ##778 under refurbishment status. I had heard also that the insurance replacements are refurbished unless the store does not have a refurbished phone.

It says no in the PST menu under refurbishment status....
I am with Verizon by the way...
But I guess, taking everyones advice so far, I'm going back to the store for my third 6800.....

I would try reflashing to different ROM and RADIO altogether... such as DCD's 1.7.0 just to see if starting from scratch helps.

Maybe you didn't have the case on right. Maybe you got a defective one. I've had my Seidio Super Slim Rubberized Case for a couple months now and I love it. I have ZERO complaints, and it doesn't widen any gaps. I would buy it over and over again.

Every warranty replacement phone I've received from Sprint has been a refurb. I imagine Verizon does the same. Otherwise they couldn't afford to replace all these phones under warranty, the way we treat them.

Mine did this as well. I even called them/sent pictures to confirm it was on correctly. I returned it in about 3 days.

I've had two of these cases, and I noticed that it was putting pressure on the slider right away. The problem, at least IMHO, is that each of little tabs that hold each half on the phone have a raised edge on them that I had to file down. I'm not sure if they were just left on there from the mold, or if they were designed to be there to make the tabs stronger. If it's the latter, I will gladly risk the case tabs breaking before I let them break my phone.
Once I filed the ridge on the tabs down, there is no pressure on the slider, and I slides open as easily as when the case is off.

[TMO TP2] best way to repair body damage, or replace it

I have been using my T-Mobile TP2 without protection on it for a while and have dropped it a few times. The screen is still perfect and the lower half (keyboard) has relatively no damage other than a few spots of chipped paint.
But the upper half, around the edges, has took quite a bit of damage. Mostly chipped pieces and dents, partially because of me dropping it and also because the bodyguard I was using previously damaged it! It was one of those crappy snap-on ones. Will never get one again, just bought ghost armor.
Anyway my question is what is the best way to repair the chipped pieces and dents or is that piece sold somewhere so I could replace it? I have no experience replacing things on the phone but I'm sure if there's a tutorial anywhere it wouldn't be too hard for me. Besides I"m not trying to disassemble the entire thing just the upper portion without the screen.
Any help appreciated.

I am trying to locate a replacement front HW button (back key is either cracked or scratched and light shows through) - so, during the lcd repair process, is this button easily replaceable without getting too involved with any other components? Any suggestions or advice on what to do/where to locate this piece of plastic would be met with extreme gratitude!
Get a new housing from eBay.
Just be careful to get one that fits your version.
My phone was stolen at work on Friday, so I managed to scramble and find one at a good price on eBay and it arrived this morning.
While I did ask to see photos, and I expected some scuffs, the photos didn't do the device justice at all, as it's much worse than I expected. In all the time I've owned my devices, I've never dropped my phone once, not once! this thing's a disaster.
So I'll need to get a replacement housing. I've been looking at eBay but couldn't see anything except these ridiculous colored housings for teens and 20-somethings. Where do real adults get the housings from?
This is an excellent outer shell protector, gives better heft holding (IMHO), rubberized black, very lightweight. Just snaps on and off.
Auction ended, but locate seller store. My Tilt2 fit perfectly in the Touch Pro Verizon except camera button needed cutting shell (trivial task).

You could take it up with eBay for SNAD, probably get a refund depending on the exact wording of the add, but if it was really SNAD should do it.

Eh? On ebay? You have everything from the original HTC version to various carrier variations, search more/wider. They're 40-80$ though.

I've been checking but I haven't found anything but these colored replicas and I don't want that. I'm willing to pay more for the original housing if I could find it.
As for the eBay complaint issue, I did think about it, but eBay is such a PITA about any disputes; they always act as though they don't want to get involved at all. In the end, I'll eat this one caveat emptor, at least this time.

eBay dispute process is tedious an long winded, but will lean towards the buyer in almost all cases. You just have to be patient.

Always pay with your credit card through PayPal. Ebay and PayPal suck at disputes; your credit card company is your fall-back and your best protection as well.
You can get OEM housings for $50-60:

Looks like it's kinda tricky to replace the housing (if you're going OEM)....

Great, thanks for the tip! I'll have to look into this closer, as I think if I go with the Touch Pro 2 OEM housing, there'll be a hole for the front-facing camera.
Maybe I'll just deal with it for now and keep my eyes open for an AT&T Tilt 2 housing somewhere. If it wasn't so beat up, I'd try a warranty exchange through AT&T; I was able to do it when I purchased a used BlackBerry Bold 9700 with no problem.
Can use HTC TP2 housing on T-Mobile TP2?

Hi there!
I've a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 that is quite beat up too & I want to replace the whole housing.
Problem is where I'm living right now, the T-Mobile housing costs double of the standard Touch Pro 2 housing.
Is it possible to fit the motherboard, flex cable & LCD panel of the T-Mobile onto a HTC Touch Pro 2 casing with the power button?
I would need the touch screen & call/navigation buttons as well.
Please advise me if you know anything about this.
Thanks!

I'm afraid I don't know myself, but if you keep searching, I'm sure there is someone who's done it and knows for sure.

Touchscreen issues suggestion on repair?

Ok here is the issue. Ive had my Evo 3d Since release, yes its rooted and all the good stuff. But recently i started getting issues with everything from the lock screen ring not responding always to even ghosting of the touch screen. Basically things being selected when im not even touching it. Or when I try to text it wont always select the letters I chose or even numbers when trying to dial a number. I can reset it and it works some but then fails again. From my looking online this is a Touch screen and digitizer issue most likely. Anyone ever have any issues like this or hear of them? Im thinking of just buying a touchscreen and digitizer assembly and replacing it as I would prefer to keep my root (im rooted Via Revolution with 1.40)
Any tips or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Also any suggestions on where the best place to get the parts for it would be?

Hi there, sorry to hear about your issue. I think the appropriate action will be dependent on your level of confidence and technical expertise. You can get the glass with the digitizer film for fairly cheap, but the removal and installation is tricky because it is stuck on via adhesive. If you think you can do that, Amazon, Ebay, or I can sell you one for a fair price. The other option is to get the glass, digitizer, LCD, and housing in one piece, you just swap your motherboard into it, and the part of the housing from your phone that has the serial numbers and what not on it. That would run you about 50 on Ebay. Maybe less, maybe slightly more. It is the far easier option technically speaking.
I had a digitizer problem on my EvO 3D and the Sprint store replaced it at the store for free.
But, after the change, Although the digitizer was better it too had the same problem in a smaller area of the screen.
So, it could be the screen and I happen to get two bad screens or it could be a problem with the phone itself.
Download from the market
Draw- Its great for seeing screen problems
Touch Test- It will show you where on the screen that has problem with multiple touch issues.
Thanks for the replies. I think I will get the glass, digitizer, LCD, and housing in one piece. I have plenty of skill as I work with small electronics and stuff like this for a living. BUT It just makes sense to replace them in one shot JUST IN CASE its the screen or the digitizer...
Sad Panda do you sell the glass, digitizer, LCD, and housing in one piece?
Or if anyone has a link to one from a reputable seller id be interested. Thanks!!!

Unfortunately I don't. There is a guy I bought from that was pleasant to deal with on Ebay. If you are looking for a referral from one of us, which I can understand I will get in touch with him for you. The great thing about the option you chose is you can make all the visible parts of your phone look brand new again. I got one from him at auction for 49, I have even seen them cheaper. Ebay is a good place where you can deal with an American rather than worry about international shipping. Let me know if you want the referral.
Lol I also suggest cleaning the screen. Especially if you have a case thapt overlaps a bit. Whenever I've had a similar issue this was it.

First thing I did was clean it. Still no good. Hell I can just sit it on the counter and watch it start doing its own thing. Or if I text it starts going berserk same with selecting phone numbers. Its got its own mind sometimes. Everything says its the screen assembly.
I had the same problem and the sprint tech replaced the digitizer/screen. It did not fix the problem. They replaced my phone on the spot with a gol' darned 1.50 version.

Sounds fishy. I suppose it is conceivable that you got unlucky and the port that connects the digitizer to the motherboard went bad, or maybe even something physically wrong in the bios region, but it does make you wonder if the tech only said he changed the screen and digitizer. Did you get that vibe rob?

Noisy/Loose buttons?

Anyone else having issues with loose buttons on the side? Specifically the camera button is loose on mine, and when I shake my phone (don't do it too often ;-) you can hear a rattle. Wondering if it's worthwhile to get it replaced or if this really is a larger 'issue' and considered normal.
I contacted Nokia, but did not receive a response yet.
I'd take it straight back to the shop and get a replacement.

Yep, I'm going back anyhow - unfortunately they have no stock right now, but I already contacted them that I'm unhappy with this. Just not sure how they will respond when I'm actually physically there. Hopefully more info on that tomorrow.
I've been searching around and there appear to be numerous posts on the web of people with the same issue - so maybe it's "normal" or "within specifications".
Use rubber case
Hi,
I thought the same thing but that was before I fitted the rubber case. this rubber case isn't optional as it seems in the beginning. If you use the case everything fits snuggly.
I hope this solves your problem.
Greets
I had the same thing, took it back for a replacement.
Mine rattle slightly I wouldn't take it back because of it though. Your replacements... They don't rattle?

deffo norattle at all on mine though the power button is uber sensative and i have turned my phone off by mistake a couple of times, for some reason i see something that says slide down and i just do it without thinking lol.
FYI - I just replaced my phone for a new one, this one doesn't have the issue I described!
i have it as well...
but i won my phone in a contest, pretty strange to ask for a replacement then
And i'm used to it now so not annoyed any longer.
I don't like the rubber skin for the phone, it makes the phone look fat

Cracked touchpad... sent to hp today.

Ok so a few days ago I noticed that my touchpad had small crack near the right speaker and I thought nothing of it. couple of days later I looked at again and it seemed bigger (now im starting to worry!) and I checked out the forums here and noticed that ALOT of touchpads were having this issue. I called up HP yesterday and they said they will fix it for free and a box will be sent to my address. The next day ups dropped off a box at my door (Really fast shipping I guess!) I packed it up in the box and everything and called ups to schedule a pickup and the guy came the same day (must love his job, lol). HP said about a week until I get it back (and all for free!).
I did not try to make the topic that long, sorry.
The moral of the story was if your touchpad is cracking dont just deal with it, it will get worse overtime and before you know it you will be out of warranty with a messed up touchpad. So take advantage of the warranty and be happy once again. Anyways what are you going to do while your waiting for ics ?

It's true. When mine first started cracking I didn't think anything of it but then the crack went right up to the bezel and part of the case started chipping away. HP sent me a box (got here 2 days after I talked to them so really fast) and sent it away yesterday. I'm expecting it back by this time next week or next monday. Not too long to go without a tablet.
If you bought your touchpad new, they will give you a refurbished unit. Either fixing it or replacing the touchpad, you will get the crack again. Thats what HP said to me!
They sold every single touchpad from there inventory and have none left.

I assume that they put new glass/back cover on though. That's what Apple does with iPhones. But did they really tell you that no matter what you're going to get cracks again?
yeap. The hp specialist said that cracks may occur once again, so please handle the device with care.
You could send them an email and tell them you have cracks (providing with pictures) and they might give you a free touchpad case.
For $250 (which i purchased) its not a terrible tablet to start playing with. I wasnt shocked by hp's build quality. There hw quality is horrible.
If i have paid $599 then I'd take action.
I paid $150 for mine because I got it right from the store during the fire sale. Even if it was only $10 I still expect the damn thing to hold together. If it cracks again I'll be sending it back and angrily sending them an email.
Yeah a lot of people seem to be having this problem. I also read that even putting a case on it doesn't really help. Hopefully I don't get it. It's pretty annoying having to send it back and waiting to get it back when there's so much going on with new roms and everything you don't wanna miss out on.
my wife's TP has cracked by both speakers, so I'm debating sending it back. My TP has held up. I'm just reluctant to send it back cause it works very well and If it get's replaced with a refurb, you never know what issues you can get.

What I did was put super glue and make sure you get the clear one. I put a two drops and held the speaker plastic to its original location and it secured it. However, because I was using my sleeve, the tiny hairs and fabric caught on the glue and its all hairy LOL.
Still its very solid and hast cracked any more. Make sure you wear gloves and make sure the area is clean. once you get it dried, it will look like it never cracked.

It is probably the best thing to do ( even tho they went open source and they are discontinued). For reference I uninstalled android with the ACMEUninstaller and restored web os.
My friend got his replacement 2 weeks ago and it already cracked. I just put a piece of tape over mine and called it a day.
how long has the turn around been for everyone?
also have you been getting back yours with a new back or a referb
thanks!
i thought about sending mine in but i know its gonna happen again no matter what so there is really no point. Maybe ill send it in right before my warranty is over. It worries me though cause i can actually pull the plastic away since its detached completely on the one side.
Someone needs to make a third party back that we can replace our current one with easily. They would make a killing. Plus I would kill to have an HP Touch pad with a white back.

Thats what I would do myself. If it's gonna crack again why send it back and be without it? Tape for me.
I have had my 32g in a case since day one and not had any issues with cracking(and my 2 year old seems to think this is her tablet), though I know 2 different people with the 16g that had cracking issues. Both of them had excellent experiences with HP also.
I have to wonder how long that gracious customer service is going to last now...
I received my touchpad a couple weeks after the firesale (if I remember right), and it eventually developed a crack by one of the speakers. I'm talking about just a few weeks ago. If it pulls free I will just use superglue to fix it.
I can imagine HP's fix is simply to put a new housing on the unit, that will eventually end up cracking again. Mine's been in the HP case since I started using it, so it's not like taking care of it will prevent the crack, or cracks.

Screen cracked, what should I do?

Well, after being fairly sure-handed with phones, I dropped my Rezound on a tile floor and the screen has cracked in multiple places. Now, it should be noted that the picture is still fine, and the touch screen still works. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance because as I stated, I'm very good with phones. At this point though, I've come up with a couple different options. Potentially replacing the screen (I'm not sure if that's what I want to do because I'm not completely phone hardware savvy, and I don't want to waste money if I can't do it or screw something up), buying a new phone, or putting insurance on the line and sucking it up for a few weeks (not too fond of that, simply because I find that to be kind of a selfish move). I'm leaning towards getting a new phone, but I'm not sure what to do. I absolutely love my Rezound, but I'm a slight flashoholic and development hit a lull, though it's slowly beginning to come back it appears. I don't know if I should get another Rezound, or jump ship and get a GNex or GS3 or something different. Does anyone have any UNBIASED recommendations? Perhaps some direction to lead me in? I'm not looking to bash the Rezound or anything of the sorts. I love my phone, I love what the devs have done, and I have zero complaints unlike many others around here. I'm just a sucker for new hardware, and the GS3 just looks so tempting minus a few things.
TL;DR - Cracked screen, don't know if I should attempt to replace screen or get a new phone entirely (and which phone at that) or put insurance and wait to file claim
I would try and replace the screen... its not too hard if you buy the little tape from 3m that is used to adhesive and try to do it in a non dusty area

Yeah I would say try and replace the digitizer as well. Thats about a $30 job
I would put some 3M packaging tape on it for a temporary fix, one strip right down the middle should hold it together and keep you from cutting your finger open until you can have it repaired.

Well, after being fairly sure-handed with phones, I dropped my Rezound on a tile floor and the screen has cracked in multiple places. I'm in the EXACT same boat. Was getting a girl's number after the bar closed on Saturday night and she accidentally knocked it out of my hand. First cracked screen in 13 years of cell phone use. I started doing research and the parts seem cheap enough but the actual repair process seems to be an aggravation. So I'm debating $30 repair or $650 on new phone? The economics say go with a repair, but HTC's also forcing my hand on moving forward from the Rezound (since they don't want to release sources).
Just remember gnex specs are worse. That's all I gotta say.

Well after looking at a video of the repair process, I've decided that $30 is not a huge deal. The worst thing that happens is I screw up the phone beyond repair, at which point I have to get a new one anyway. At that point, what's an extra $30 when you're getting a new phone? The only downside, is there's no phone for a few days. Oh well.

This is completely true, but from a software perspective, there's a lot more development, many more options for flashing, and close to no hassle when it comes to updates. Though I love the latest hardware, and would have likely gone with the GS3.
I just got mine repaired at a place I found online cost me a little over a hundred.

After breakingg mine for the 3rd time,
1st time I didn't crack it, I tore a piece of the connector that attaches to the glass, it disabled about half the screen, I was trying to paint the "red" buttons more red. Highly recommend you don't do this and just deal with it lol. I went to look for a replacement digitizer.
Found some pretty cheap like you guys, and I purchased one. When it came in I realized that it did not come with any kind of adhesive. This was tormenting. It took me about a week to finally get some special 3m "digitizer adhesive" from china. I proceeded to install it and it came out fine.
The following day I noticed that the digitizer was lifting on the left side, and that some dust had seeped up under the digitizer.
I then spent multiple days and hours trying to get the digitizer to stay, I went threw about three different adhesives, nothing had worked long enough.
2nd time I cracked the cheaped digitizer was be sheer force ;p, lol actually it was an accident. I was in the middle of applying adhiseive strips to the digitizer and I must have gotten a bit rough with it because it snapped in my had, I'm a big guy but I have seriously sensitive hands and can control what they are doing (im an artist). So the digitizer was just cheap as hell, because I had dropped the OEM on on cement a few times prior and it didn't even scratch.
So I was pissed and went to look for an OEM digitizer. Found one on eBay, and bought it, turned out not to be OEM, but it actually did look higher quality then the previous one so I kept it, I didnt pay much for it any way, and you will probably not find an OEM digitizer short of buying a new phone.
I had just about given up on trying to keep the screen down, and after so long and and about 5 hours of installing a new adhesive it turned out ok, but I had some light leaking from the left, and had to press the digitizer down to get rid of it, and that helped for about 5 seconds. Other then that it was ok, but I still kept getting damn dust.
3rd time, dropped it on my kitchen tile floor, lol. It was funny to read you dropped it on tile too. That was the end off it, I was no longer going to spend any more money on a damn digitizer.
TL;dr Read, make fun of me, Buy a new phone.
This was also the first time I ever cracked a screen by dropping it.
