Ok, so I thought I would take the new AT&T rom with PTT, etc.. and cook it so that it gets rid of the stupidity in there (can we say MobiTV and XM baked in? XM is insane.. Even if you already subscribe to XM, and already have an online XM acct, you need to pay an EXTRA $10 for that program to work? huh??) and release an Elf WM5 edition? This would upgrade the stuff that needs upgrading, remove the junk that shouldn't be there, and make it go a bit faster..
Would there be any demand for it?
Let me know.
You know, it's not such a crazy idea. As I see it:
WM6 Advantages:
1. HTML email (no Exchange 2007 at work yet, but HTML email on my personal accounts is delish)
2. Reliable IMAP reconciliation (stuff I delete from the phone never pops back up on my desktop)
3. Office 2007 support
WM5 Advantages:
1. Proven/supported on specified carrier's network
2. Sync with Macs via MarkSpace Missing Sync <-- this one is really hurting me on WM6
3. Some 3rd party software more stable (stuff that hasn't caught up with WM6 yet)
So the totally *****in' thing to have in my book would be a Vanilla AT&T ROM with Outlook and Office 2007 from WM6 cooked in (heck even all the other apps like calendar, etc. if possible). All the extras offered separate as CABs (and I believe they already are). Pipe dream? Probably. Would be the best of both worlds though.
I dont think you can cook in office 2k7 in wm5? could be wrong though
Would be useful
I would def. like to see a cleaner WM5 rom. i tried some of the other WM6 Roms. While all were very good i had to go back with WM5 and PTT. Unfortunately i have to use the feature (for now). Thanks
someone might want to check with custel.. he supposedly was already working on this, or almost had one done.. i think.. i would have done it long ago but having the time lately has been a problem for me.
I hope to see one soon. I need the PTT for work but thats about all. If i could get the PTT on WM6 i'd stay upgraded
I would like to see a slimmed down version of the new AT&T ROM. I haven't upgraded yet because of the crap in the new ROM. So, if no one else is working on it, it would be greatly appreciated.
I did a bunch of searching but didn't come up with a clear answer (probably due to just how much info is out there on cooking).
Why do people cook ROM's in kitchens? What is the advantage of it, vs taking a clean rom, and installing the .cab's for the various programs / options you want, using a program like Sashimi or even manually?
It seems like if it's cooked into the ROM, a program can't be removed or upgraded. Is there a storage size benefit or some other benefit? Thanks in advance.
Well some people like to REMOVE stuff that they don't use. DCD includes a lot of stuff by default that I personally remove when I use the kitchen. Likewise, he doesn't include some of the stuff I like to install that isn't (officially) in CAB form.
A good example of this is that I remove all Voice-related stuff and add the Entertainment pack to my Kitchen ROMs, as well as some generic stuff like TomTom7.
As far as auto-installing using Sashimi or Autorun/etc, I can't really answer anything related to those, but integrating into an OEM eliminates the need to install via CAB (it's basically installed when u flash).
I hope that helps some. If not, ask away.
One benefit I see is if you have some form of a tracking tool, if someone steals your phone and does a hard reset, if you have it cooked in the rom via kitchen, then it restarts back up and will be able to help you recover your phone.
For tools that don't update on a regular schedule, there is the benefit of not having to reload it from a cab. In my case I have it auto-configure my exchange settings, owner info, load a few games that I don't have a cab for, and to change a few of the programs that DCD provides that I don't use.
I can hard reset my phone in the field and within 30 seconds my data is already being synced back to my phone with only a few clicks.

The hard-reset idea was what I used to claim, but not anymore. I flash a new ROM on this phone like every 2 weeks. (addiction?) Having most of my apps cooked on after flashing is the biggest benefit for me now. Since I've got all my apps in OEM form (some already made, some I created on my own), I just simply use them in whatever kitchen. So now, no matter what ROM I flash to, it's still the "same" for me
i do it mainly for convenience, its a lot easier for me to configure all my email, owner info, reg tweaks, and other stuff on my PC before flashing than on the phone after flashing
Great question!

I'm very new to this, but now that I've installed my first custom ROM I've been wondering the same thing. I find the responses you've received very interesting - for instance, how do you
configure all my email, owner info, reg tweaks, and other stuff on my PC before flashing than on the phone after flashing

If I can do that, then it would seem to make sense to put up as stripped a ROM as possible and load all my normal programs on the storage card.
I used a tool called OEMIzer, it let me preset owner info, email server info, default theme, etc.

Amen to that. My wife tells me I am too old to be playing around with custom ROM's and assembling my own PC's, but I figure if I'm not learning every day I'm dying. (grin)

thats pretty much what i do, i dont cook any apps into the rom, just settings, then i have cabs for all my apps on my storage card, i dont install them to the card because of access speeds

So do you put all your data files (Excel workbooks, Word docs, databases, etc.) on your card? With 8 to 16 GB cards, there's little worry about running out of storage now.
I've installed nearly all of my (non-MS) apps on the card currently; loading doesn't seem to be a problem except for Skyfire. Next ROM image I assemble I will minimize everything in ROM and use your "CAB on Card" idea.
Thanks for the comment. cv
For quite some time, I used the kitchen on my Apache & then some with my Mogul.
For the Apache, the biggest benefit was saving memory by getting rid of all the crap Sprint loads on the phone. For the Mogul, memory isn't as big an issue, anymore.
I quit using the kitchen because the results were too buggy with my Mogul. I need my phone to operate every single time I use it and the one in a hundred times my kitchen-ized phone wouldn't work right was one time too many.
One of the annoying things about the kitchen, imo, is that there are dozens of wonderful apps with no explanation as to what they do. I've inquired about them a few times & rarely ever gotten a clear answer. Most of them can be Googled, but many can't. It seems like a waste.
In the end, I'm using Sprint's latest official ROM with lots and lots of upgrades. I also have figured out how to delete most of the files that are installed by default using various file explorers, so I've cleared up even more memory. Now, my phone is rock solid... doesn't have a single glitch... works 100% of the time at 100% capability. I do not worry that the bluetooth will decide it's not going to work, don't worry that the answer button won't work when I receive a call, don't worry that it's going to freeze up for no reason...
The kitchen is fun, and with my Apache, was a lifesaver.
I just don't feel the bugs I get from the kitchen outweigh the bugs Sprint's 6800 rom gives me (I haven't actually found any, yet.) With the Apache, the equation worked the other way around.
I ask two things in providing these SYS files and ROMs.
1.) If you post a mirror, state that it is a mirror, and link to the first page of this thread.
2.) If you find errors in the SYS files I have provided, and you fix them, please report back to me via PM which SYS you have, when you Downloaded it (because they may get updated), and Exactly what was done to fix the error. This way I can make the corrections, give you credit, and update the files for everyone else.
Okay folks, here's a new thread to break up some of the Chaos. I am currently breaking down everything for Build 21195 and I will do my best to keep things organized (as far as links to builds) in the first three posts. This way, we don't have to search around to find a particular RUU link. These Builds are designed for the Titan and for Verizon. If you are not on Verizon, load up the DCD Carrier CAB for your carrier. Many thanks go out to the countless individuals and teams that have played a role in educating me as well as releasing some great builds for WM6.x.
I use XIP's compiled by dan-htc-touch (PPCGeeks).
If it weren't for members like Mr. Free (XDA/PPCGeeks), Drellisdee (PPCGeeks), Conflipper (PPCGeeks), GC14 (XDA-for the Arcsoft CABs we had to use in the beginning of this project), and countless other members here on XDA-Developers, over on PPCGeeks, HTCGeeks, and other Windows Mobile sites all over the world, many of us wouldn't be where we are now....Beta Testing.
Remember, these are all Beta Releases of a potentially unstable OS. It is very possible that they could get you in over your head. I am providing these builds for testing purposes only, and I am not responsible for any damage that may result from your actions of using these files. You do so at your own risk.
All links contain a RARed RUU and a txt file that lists what OEMs were added. Just to help you follow along. There are a couple of extras I throw in that are not stock to the builds, but are needed for edits and testing purposes. These include, but are not limited to: Total Commander (File Explorer), nueExtROM, nuePerformance, and the Network Plug-in. These were not designed for these builds, but have ran for me and I use them in my testing. You may use them if I post manual fixes to get you by until the next release.

Not alil settings are taking effect right away, it seems a couple Soft Resets are in order, but after 1-2 Soft Resets, it looks like life is good.
*Now labeled as "FDE_21725" (Force Developments Edition) instead of "Force_21725."

Due to unknown conflicts with files pertaining to the Sprint Carrier OEM, I have decided to pull this build until the issue can be resolved. Sprint users (and other carriers), please flash the Verizon CAB and load your DCD Carier cab if needed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
***Microsoft MyPhone has been reported and confirm to be non functional. Please download and install the Microsoft MyPhone CAB to correct this issue*** (Thanks to <mattsm> for providing the cab file)
*This is nothing like you are used to! Thanks to the hard work of <Colonel00> and the PPCKitchens team, we have managed to add the WM7 Titanium Project to this ROM.
*Thanks to <mattsm> (XDA) for his hard work in helping me test and fix a number of issues. And also for helping to get the Battery/Memory gauges into a fully functional OEM. Great work!
*You will need to manually run Showaco's Titanium Weather and manually insert various files to get the weather app to look right. Download this package: Showaco Titanium Weather_v4.2 Update for WM7 Project.rar , it has the cab installer for Showco's Titanium Weather v4.2 (latest) and the various files to intigrate it into the WM7 Project. An Instructions.txt file is included, follow it and you will be on your way!
*Replaced the dialer, and we have TierAuto Install back again. Oh, and check out your new default ringtone good for a grin at least. It is my default ringtone on my phone.
*Go to the Start Menu, run "ATContacts" and close it. This will cure the issue for your "Fave People" pane on the Today screen.
*Do not install a different CHome Config tool. It may screw up the WM7 Project and leave you having to reflash. There is a devoted CHome Config tool in your Start Menu.

They are provided so y'all have something to play with if you are having flashing withdrawls while I am away this week. I CANNOT BUILD ANY ROMs THIS WEEK. SORRY.

exchange 2003 error code for active sync
Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition
ok after looking a my works 2003 exchange server there are a lot of things that could be giving errors im looking in to all of these as we speak hang tight with this there are some add-on's that are needed im looking all the errors i got today
but here is this you can do a domain enroll and sync that way and could use active sync with out look that is attached to a domain
here look at this site it explains it in detail http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292066

Ok, I set it up to sync against my personal exchange 2003 server (I found a 25 licence on ebay for almost nothing about 2 years ago) with build 1.2 of 21193, I got the same exact error. Here's how it all went down... for the test here (oh, and 21195 is out, update to that version plz for the next build)..
1. Setup on PC, set up to sync against my server (I am on the local domain in my home), it seemed to sync mail and I was able to select my folders to sync.
2. Make sure I am fully sync'ed....all good here...all mail is on the 6800 as requested
3. Disconnect from PC, connect via VZW internet and sync again..
4. Activesync on WM said it sync'ed fine (checked time difference).
5. Logged in to 3rd party mail to send a test mail to my account on my exchange server.
6. Heard test e-mail arrived on my desktop. Attempt to sync again, active sync error 0x80070057...Pull 3 hairs out of my head..
Nope, does not work, I know my 2003 Exchange server very well, This is a problem with this build, I have been syncing for a long time from WM 5.0 (when 5.0 was new)

You cannot add Nitrous Oxide to an engine with with 2 dead cylinders and expect it to run 9's in the quarter mile. So why add features to an OS that isn't running at 100% yet?....It isn't logical.

Yoda,
What does this have to do with exchange ? I looked up Domain Enroll (never had to use on a WM device so I didn't know too much about it), You need Microsoft's System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 (MDM) to be able to Enroll a WM deivce to the domain, from what I have read.
One of the places I read about it...
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsung-sch-i760/115091-wm-6-1-domain-enrollment.html
I hope you figure out something on this, I know I am behind with a old 2003 Exchange server but, a lot of us need to be able to sync here.
I thank you for your efforts here !!!
exchange 2003 (behind in times)
dont read in to the title but here is my thoughts on this yes to domain enroll can be done but major problem is this for it to work right you need a vpn from exchange server but you also have to have it linked with server 2003 witch is a another part you have to have the device setting in the AD right for the phone for it to sync right if not you will get a comm error unable to connect witch is what i was getting this after noon now on the other hand looking at the set up it is really simple just have to make sure you have the server client active sync plug in and service turned on in the MMC console and have all the setting for the plug ins im going to be doing more work with this tomorrow i work for a medical foundation that is looking at going from a blackberry server to a wm and we are going to be getting like 200 new HTC phones so i have to get this figured out as well
Just installed
I'm definitely liking this build much more so than previous ones, runs alot smoother, could use a little more free ram, but hey, it's a beta so I'm not really stressing that, I'll just use it bare bones for now to get a feel.
One of the first things I've noticed is that for some reason, running the alignment screen makes my mogul freeze up, I have to soft reset to get out of that, the default setting is accurate enough for now though so not that big of a deal at the moment, I'm not really a power user but I definitely use enough of the features to be able to give some good input...I guess more to come stay tuned....
great work, keep it coming.
Missing files for proper build
Please review Post #3 regularly. I will be posting files that I am missing to complete build 21195. I can already see there are some changes in 21195 by looking at the SYS. There are new files. If you locate any of the files in RED, please ZIP the files and post them. Once the correct files have been located, I will change the file name in post #3 to GREEN and place the member's name next to the located file. This is to ensure all those involved get credit for their efforts in building 21195.
Thanks.
ok, I have to stop playing with this, I need to have another life besides living on these 2 sites....
Anyway, as for 21193 1.2, No games ? No Voice control app ? (I know there was a newer version of the voice control app in PPCkitchen that you didn't have to train)

Don't take any offence to what I said....Exchange 2003 is still current in most companies I have worked in...
As for behind in times, I can't count how many times I have been doing work on domains (migrations, active directory issues, etc) and find old NT 4 servers and even a working Exchange 5.5 (do you remember that ? ) setup in a sub domain someplace...
Ah, blackberry to WM....fun, fun, fun.... Did you have a part of that ?
Contacts x2 and Transparency Start menu
Just wanted to see if any luck with fixes yet? Also in 21193 WMP library on mine is acting a little funny. Screen flashes some
Thanks a million for the hard work.

Wow, we were just discussing last night if you wanted to drop 21193 and move on to 21195, now 21198 ? If you didn't start 21195 already, I would of said to skip over it.
I wonder what will be be here in a few days....
Is this a bug or setting ? On 1.2 21193, as we know as this point activesync with Exchange 2003 does not work. So I went into Activesync on the device and put Sync During to Manually for Peak/Off peak.
So, it's not syncing correcty what happens is every time I pull the phone out of my pocket, it's connected to the data network (it keeps trying to sync, even tho I set it to manual sync only). It atempts but does not disconnect, so it's always on.
I don't mind being connected to the internet all the time but, if I miss it and do not disconnect it, My battery goes from lasting 2 days to 4-5 hours.
I'm not kidding, when I was on 21169, my battery life was bad, really bad (I'd be charging the phone 2-3 times a day because of it), to the point where I removed the password to the data network so it would not connect to it just to get most of the day out of the battery (and it would still pop up all the time asking for the network password).
Any idea ?

I'm not sure. Like I said before, I don't even use Exchange. But at anypoint in time, you can open up the Task Manager and see ActiveSync running. Even after I manually close the app. It has been this way on every 6.5 build I have flashed to my phone. (And don't ask how many, because I haven't the slightest clue...but it's a lot of flashes.)
Yesterday when I took the boy to the zoo, I unplugged the phone at about 8:30 in the morning, and the battery lasted until 8 at night when I got back to the house. I had my data connected and AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and MSN signed in and running, and my email accounts (Live, Yahoo, and Gmail) all set to the most frequent retrieval setting. The only time during the day that I was plugged into the car charger was on my way to and from the zoo, which was about a 30 minute drive. In the beginning (21139, 21159, and 21169) I found that IE was causing a major drain on the battery. I haven't noticed it as much since IE was fixed somewhere along the way (21176 I believe.) I tested this theory by putting the IE from 21176 into 21159 Beta 5, and I got better battery life.
Anyway, I just RARed up 21195. the translation is almost complete oother than the 3 files I listed in Post #3. I am off to work on 21198 now and see what we have there. Will post with any updates. As of right now, the list in post #3 is for 21195. If I locate any files I need in 21198, I will make sure you guys can tell which build I am missing which files for in Post #3.
a bit more on exchange 2003:
i enabled verbose logging
obvious things are
User-Agent: MSFT-PPC/5.2.1003 from mr2
User-Agent: MSFT-PPC/5.2.5000 from 21193
also
MS-ASProtocolVersion: 2.5 from mr2
MS-ASProtocolVersion: 14.0 from 21193
ms-asprotocolversion 14.0?????????
i cant find that in the registry to change back to 2.5 can someone tell me what key its getting that from?
exchange 2003
ok every one that is having the connection problem
well it is simple there are 2 ways to connect and one program needed
first off you have to set up your active sync right
go to active sync and go to the tools drop down menu
go to options in there it gives you the option to add exchange
click on the Microsoft exchange and click on settings
it gives you the access to add your log on credentials
and you will be able to add your information for your server names and ip address
but remember you have to enroll your wm device before doing that
by adding it to the server and also setting the user accounts in Active D
and also needing to make sure you have your wifi set up so you can us wireless sync and you should be good to go and jsut remember if you are testing this on a live server to make sure you back up all contacts and test and e-mails before syncing and or befor you enroll in the domain that way you do no lose any thing the ver of 21193 beta 1.2 i am running has no problems syncing with exchange and is vary stable thanks to the long hrs of work from my self and tplane 37
any more questions send me a pm and i will try and help
For NEON 400 users only!
Please do not even consider flashing this rom unless your device is a NEON 400. That's the Canadian Telus/Bell version of the HTC Touch Dual. If you don't know how to find out the model number... then I suggest you do some more reading before you consider flashing any roms.
Hey All,
My old phone died so I recently became the proud owner of the HTC Touch Dual NEON 400. Long story short I unlocked it (Thanks to jockyw2001) and found that there are no Chefs out there with this device. There's a couple dedicated dudes out there trying to help all of us NEON 400 users (Talking about you Rataplan, deepankerjha), but since they don't actually have this device it's pretty tough for them to prepare and test a rom for us.
So, I took the plunge. With Rataplan's help (thanks a lot buddy, couldn't have gotten this far without you're help) I've been cooking away and have a solid WM 6.5 ROM here for us. It's based on the Telus stock ROM and WM 6.5 build 21914. I haven't yet cleared all the extra's (so it's a bit fat) but in my testing so far it's 100% functional and bug free (well, as bug free as WM can be )
I can't guarantee how well it'll work on the Bell NEON 400's, but if you have a Telus device, this should do the trick. I'm using it right now on mine.
Please leave feedback if you try this ROM out. I am still a novice chef, but I'll take feedback to heart, and I'll continue cooking and optimizing roms for the NEON 400 as I learn more and get better.
Happy Flashing!
I'll post updates as they come.
UPDATE:
Sorry all, but in my quest to migrate to the Android OS I've ditched my Neon in favour of the Vogue. I'll upload the Lite ROM I was working on for those who want it. The only thing I was having trouble with was the GPS, apart from that the ROM runs very nicely with the extra weight of the cube and other fat removed. Feel free to PM me if you have questions, I'll do my best to help if I can.
Give me a few days to do a fresh build of the Lite ROM and to take one more stab at getting the GPS working.
Okay my final roms are up. Hopefully Rataplan will have the links posted below shortly.
Lite Version: 1.01 - 1.03
-WM 6.5 Build 21914
-TouchFlo Cube removed
-A bunch of other bundled HTC/Telus packages removed
-GPS is still flaky
Version: 2.01
-WM 6.5 Build 21914
-Nothing removed, All stock HTC and Telus packages remain
EDIT I can't post links just yet, so Rataplan's going to help me out with that, check his post below for the download links.
Here are the links:
NEON400_201 Added 19th August
NEON400_Lite_101 Added 9th November
NEON400_Lite_102 Added 9th November
NEON400_Lite_103 Added 9th November
Loaded on my Bell NEON400. Took a while to get to setup and made a few bleeps along the way, now it's at the "Customization" part. Will update as I finish setup and test it out.
EDIT: Finished installation, looks pretty good, will test calling and texting as we go. Any chance we can strip the Telus crap out of it though? Hate seeing "Telus" everywhere when it's not even a Telus phone.
EDIT 2: Trying to set up ActiveSync to sync with my Google Account - it freezes every so often for a short while and won't respond to taps or key presses. Seems to be common in all applications. Also, the keys operate but the backlight never turns on for them (disregard that - they do work, see Edit 4).
EDIT 3: Hitting the X to close a window doesn't kill the app like it did in WM 6.1. Not sure if this normal behaviour or not (first time flasher).
EDIT 4: After a reboot the key backlight is working again. When I try changing the keyboard however to a full QWERTY layout the setting never saves and always reverts to the "touch keypad" or whatever it is (same problem in WM 6.1 so it's a setting issue not a ROM issue - disregard please).
If you could get rid of the Telus branding everywhere and see what's up with the freezing this ROM would be perfect!
Nice job.
got_milk, Thanks for testing on your Bell device. Like I said in the post I wasn't sure what to expect on a Bell phone. I'm working on a lite version right now with the Telus stuff stripped out. I'm also trying to remove the added weight from HTC like the touchflo cube (I really hate that thing...)
I've noticed the problem with the X button not closing apps. It seems in WM 6.5 it just sort of minimizes them. Although if I recall there's a setting somewhere that lets you set it so you can close an app by holding the X instead of just tapping it. I'll look into that some more.
In regards to the responsiveness one thing I've noticed is that when memory is low I sometimes have to tap and hold the buttons for a moment before they register. I initially thought it just wasn't reading the hits but found by accident that I could make it work by holding it for an extra moment. Hopefully this won't be a problem once I get my Lite version working.
I highly recommend downloading and installing Finger Keyboard. It's my favourite by far. I can't post links yet, but the thread where I found it is titled:
\\\\\\\\\ F i n g e r K e y b o a r d 2 ///////// v2.1 - NOW ONLINE - all resolutions
One other thought: If you could hook me up with the ROM you're using as the stock Bell ROM I could recreate this 6.5 ROM using it as the base. This might solve some of your problems too.
Thanks again for testing!
Not a problem, thank you more for doing this! I really hate how we're limited to WinMo 6.1, when we clearly have a 6.5 capable device.
I'm using the stock Bell ROM from jockyw2001's HardSPL post (stickied at the top of this forum).
Looking forward to the lite edition, I will certainly test it when you release it.
So, I couldn't stay away (Software Engineering student...lol). I set up my own kitchen and started to cook using a stock Bell ROM. I've managed to strip all the Bell crap + the HTC cube and make a nice clean ROM.
However!
I've encountered one bug so far. On the home screen, where "Text" should be, it's simply blank and clicking it gets me to the main Outlook menu (where I choose Text Messages or Outlook E-mail). I can also not create text messages or reply to them. I know we've hit this roadblock before but no one's said how they got around it.
I also don't have data working at all - it's not being configured automatically (I think the Bell customization wizard does this, but it's disabled).
EDIT: Okay, it's as I suspected. There's a connection.xml file that's part of the Bell scripts that is added to handle data access. Anyone know how I can add data as part of the ROM package?
For sms take a look at this post from 88fingerslukee,

Regards,
That registry edit is just enabling/disabling threaded SMS...in my case SMS doesn't work at all (I can receive and view SMS') but I can't create any new ones or reply to them.

Yes, it's essential anyway so I get prompted if it's not included. It's not part of WM build 21914 however...
So I've tried with a bunch of different WM builds, new kitchen setups, and everything I can think of under the sun.
Data works out of the box - it's just not enabled by default. If you go into the comm manager and enable data it seems to work.
SMS is still broken. When it's not highlighted right above the text 'Text' it displays 'No notif...'. Highlighting 'Text' gives you absolutely no text at all and your option for that is 'View', which takes you to your call list.
I've cooked all day and yet I cannot get this to work at all. I'm rolling back to WM 6.1 until I can find a solution.

got_milk, way to go bud! Glad to have another new chef in the kitchen. I wont bother cooking a Bell ROM as you're already on track. My Lite ROM is gonna be a while anyway. Between wife, kids, job, and house... I just don't have a whole lot of time to tinker.
In regards to your SMS problem, I might be able to help. I too had problems getting SMS to work when I started working on my Lite ROM. After some trial and error what I found fixed it was to include two files from the OEMAPPS pkg.
Strip out all the crap from OEMAPPS you don't want and make sure that these two files remain, then include the package in your next build:
234f3319-55a2-46a3-be32-24530a643a0f.dsm
234f3319-55a2-46a3-be32-24530a643a0f.rgu
I'll be honest, I didn't do any research on the significance of these files, I just happened upon it by chance.
Good Luck!
Aha! I shall do another cook tonight and see if that does the trick.
EDIT: You sir, are a brilliant genius. I didn't have the .rgu version but the .dsm was there. Deleted everything out of OEMAPPS but that, cooked and flashed, and texting works now.
Thanks a ton!
Excellent! Glad I could help
So, my two bugs I've noticed so far...
No data. EV-DO is available, looks like it has to be set up manually. Anyone know how we can incorporate this into the cooking? I've tried ADC but it doesn't work, says it's not a valid Pocket PC application every time the phone boots up.
Also, the buttons along the top (sound, data, etc) work normally in the home screen, but enter any app and while the icons remain the same their functions have now been shifted one to the left. (Volume becomes Close, Data becomes Volume, etc).
When I first started a Lite ROM I stripped my Operator EXT packages. That killed my data. I put'em back to work on the OEM pkg's. I haven't had time to dissect the EXT packages yet to find the pieces we need for data. Whichever one of us figures that out first will have to share it with the other
For now I'm still picking through the OEM packages finding all the pieces I want/need to keep.
Not sure about your taskbar buttons, might be related to that handy tasks dropdown item that's usually on the far right (like a quickview task manager you can use to close running apps) I don't know if that's a WM feature, or something HTC bundled in.
That's an HTC bundled application (TaskManager.exe in OEMApps). I removed it and the bug's still there. You don't have this problem?
Data is handled via Connection.xml which is injected - somehow - during the "Customization" process. You CAN do it yourself manually - simply add a new connection and have it dial #777.
There's not much in the EXT packages - and what's there is impossible to tell for now, I'll dissect more and see what's there.
Strange, when I hit any of the buttons along that top taskbar it just opens up a bubble with icons for each of the options available, and then select an item from the bubble. Individually the icons along the top don't actually do anything for me, they all just open this bubble.
Right, which is the normal behaviour - it's when you actually select an icon from that bubble that everything appears to have shifted one position to the left.
Try it at the home screen and then in an application.
Also, looks like data is handled via "Connection.xml" which is placed inside the Windows folder (I'm back to stock 6.1 to check file locations). If I try to put that inside OEMApps or whatever and have that copy over though it doesn't end up in the Windows folder as far as I can tell.
I'm also trying to strip out the more unnecessary stuff, however, the camera always breaks and says the app is missing files to run. I can get rid of the cube, and everything else, but I'd like to leave the camera function behind (strips 30MB off the ROM if I clean everything else out). But the camera doesn't work.

Greetz,
I am looking for a Smartphone with a particular form factor, the form factor is shared by the P3600, the Aria & the HD Mini. I have the 3600 but it is time to upgrade
I’ll be honest I’d rather get a HD Mini than an Aria, but I want to stick with Tel$tra and Next G is on 850 Mhtz,
So Aria it is.
Now looking at the ups and downs of this proposition it looks like it will do everything I want out of the box (Give or take a bit) the only concern is the ability to run apps from the SD which doesn’t appear to be available until upgrading to 2.2.
If I want the phone unlocked and free to do as I say, I obviously can’t go downloading a carrier specific Rom, so need either a factory default or Home baked number.
So… What Android 2.2 ROM is available that is as close to the Unlocked factory default as possible? Or can you download the Unlocked Factory Default from HTC direct (I have tried and failed)
You're looking for gene Poole's liberated 2.2.2 or attn1 fr008.

+1
You want Gene Poole's Liberated 2.2.2
Also, how and where are you getting your phone?
Most of us (it seems) in this forum got our phones when they were running 2.1 and we were able to easily root them with unrevoked. People who have gotten the Gratia or warranty replacements recently with the official 2.2 system in place have not been able to root.

Thanks for that mtnlion. I thought this was my last hurdle but then I considered the implications of syncing outlook contacts and calendars… It appears that you need a third part application to do that. FFS why can’t someone port WM6.5 to the Aria HW? It would make life so much easier.
Is it time for me to start learning to cook ROMs?
Thanks for the update stoneship. So it isn’t all as easy as it seems on the surface. SOD…
Maybe I just have to cross my fingers and hope that HTC keeps supporting the small form factor and wait for there next round of releases, and hope something fits.
I haven't used it in quite awhile but I'm pretty sure the HTC sync software will sync outlook and calendar when you plug in your phone.and there are apps on the market also.

Thanks again mtnlion, but this still leaves me with the issue highlighted by stone ship that some systems won’t let you root break them and put on non official ROM images. The Aria as a solution is so close I can taste it… But I am just not confident it is going to be without issues.
Ahhh Screw it… I have bought one… How much trouble can it be???
Well... after rereading your post it seems that you may not be aware of this.
The phone you purchased will most likely (if new) come with software preinstalled from the factory that will prohibit you from rooting it via software methods.
You will need to send the phone to someone else to downgrade it for you. Then you can root it and install the software above.
Hope that made sense, I'm running on fumes... :-/

Cross your fingers that you got one with 2.1 on it so you can root it easily. If not I can point you to someone who can s-off it for you.
The Aria is a great little phone and once you get things sorted out I think you will find you can do what you need with it. Syncing outlook contacts and calendars should not be an issue either through activesync or HTC sync regardless of official or cooked rom.
You say Active sync or HTC sync??? Does that mean that M$ Active sync can sync with an Android device? That would be weird.
The device is advertised as unlocked and 2.1 As long as it is unlocked then I am good even if it is 2.2 I don’t expect to need it rooted in the immediate term, though I do expect I am going to have to hack around a little to get the Audio on my Cardo Scala headset sorted (it doesn’t support A2DP) so I may be eating those words in short order.
Though in the words of the great tosser Jeremy Clarkson… “How Hard can it be?”
Seeing I am asking these questions I may as well outline the Bluetooth issue I have and see if any one can shed any light on the Android solution.
As I said in my previous post my Bluetooth headset doesn’t support A2DP, so to get music playing on it (or get GPS spoken directions) I need to perform a couple of hacks
The first one is to combine the stereo channels so on my Windows mobile I do this by applying the following to the registry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"UseJointStereo"=dword:00000001
The second (And more important) is to change the Bluetooth channel behavior which is done by making the voice command attribute do nothing (remove the path of the executable) and keeping the channel open for an indefinite amount of time (VoiceCmdDuration being a large number)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand]
"LaunchApEnable"=dWord:1
"VoiceCmdDuration"=dWord:15180
So… In Android, what files do I need to tweak, and how do I need to tweak them to achieve the same results?
Thanks
Well I now have my aria in my greasy little hands, and for better or worse… It has 2.2 loaded.
Starting to sort my way through the maze of setup now…
Patience.

The Limitations of Android are really annoying. (Unrooted)
I can’t Leave the device Synchronizing and also copy files back and forth (I Can in WM5)
I can’t copy files directly to the device only to the SD Card (I Can in WM5)
I can’t access the SD card from the device while I am accessing it from the PC (I Can in WM5)
I can’t edit configuration files to alter how it interacts with things such as Bluetooth (I Can in WM5)
I can’t store resources such as ringtones on the device, only on the SD card (I Can in WM5)
I can’t control the phone from my desktop computer such as MyMobiler (I Can in WM5)
And these are just the limitations I have found in 3 days when comparing it to a 6 year old Operating system.
And because it came pre installed with 2.2 I can’t root it…
It really appears that if it isn’t rooted it is pretty F#$ked.
Android is not really designed to be synchronized over USB. Yes, you can do it, and HTC makes a program for it specifically, but I suggest abandoning that habit and getting used to wireless syncing instead. The only reason I ever connect my phone to a computer is to copy a file, and even then I sometimes choose to do it with Dropbox instead, or send the link to the phone through ChromeToPhone.
Even if you don't want to use Google Calendar/Contacts as your primary calendar/contacts manager, you should be able to set up Outlook on your computer to synchronize with them. I don't personally use Outlook so I can't say what the best method for doing this is, but perhaps someone else can chime in with a suggestion.
As for the SD card, I don't think there is really any significant disadvantage to storing files on the SD card. Assuming you just leave your SD card in the phone, what's the difference? Some Android phones do have internal memory you can use for copying files to though.
As for the bluetooth issue, yes, that sucks. Good luck finding a solution for that if one exists.
Well An Update…
My Blutooth issues are managed by this app
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bedoig.BTmono_Donate&feature=search_result
It is O.K. But does have a nasty habit of rebooting the device if you don’t shut it down properly before disconnecting the bluetooth connection.
It still doesn’t allow me to initiate actions from the headset other than picking up calls, but at the end of the day this is all I require.
After my torrent of negatives I have found a few starters for what Android is doing better…
When you mount the SD card to the computer it is fully available, you can read & edit files not just copy to and from (I Can’t in WM5)
Once you throw a file manager on the device it browses UNC paths well
Though It does appear I am getting some really weird $hit happening with my Outlook calendars.
And I have noted that I can’t have different screen timeout behavior dependent on weather it is plugged in or not.
If I could have the best of WM, and the best of Droid, I would be a happy little camper.
