It appears progress has been made on the Kaiser (MSM7200) to have a D3D driver available.
What are the chances this will work on the Titan (MSM7500)?
http://htcclassaction.org/driverprogress.php#update_20080717_1
Looks pretty good so far.
Hell to the yeah, I'm buying that dude a fruit basket. Keep up the good work whoever you are.
i thought the msm7500 referred to the cpu, and not the graphic accelerator? or is it built onto the cpu
The msm7500 is the chipset. Everything is on the chip.
Besides the fact that one is GSM and the other CDMA, I would assume the architecture and hardware is almost identical. I think it should work but hey, I'm not an expert.
what's the more advance chipset of the two? and what are the difference?
OpenGL ES please!!!
Im very interested in getting an OpenGL ES driver for my xv6800. Im no device driver expert but I am familiar with graphics programming using OpenGL and OpenGL ES. Im willing to help in whatever way I can if anyone is working on this for the Titan. I can write OpenGL ES test apps and can use my beloved xv6800 as a alpha/beta test platform, whatever... hell I will wash your car if I have to!
Don't bother trying to install the driver... it will lock up at the carrier screen.
now to figure out how to uninstall it...

Yeah i figured i'd have to do that too... good thing i only cooked this setup the other day
The problem that we're going to have is that the power user base for the Mogul and Touch combined is still less than that of the Kaiser, since the Kaiser isn't just the Tilt in the US but is sold in other countries as well.
I don't really think that no2chem wants to start another project right now, he's busy trying to get nueROM 2.2 out the door.
Eth,
I agree..... CDMA phones are still in the minority on this board.
Ahh...When Verizon goes LTE I'll be a happy boy. Of course that will be 2012 - 2015.
By that time my phone will be holographic, 5TB of data storage, and a mind implant instead of a touch screen
But We'll still have to hack it just to do the things we want!

5TB? For a holographic phone? That's the same mentality that designed the Titan with 64M of memory. =P
We need 1.21 Jigabytes!!! (yeah I quoted Dr Emmet Brown)

If you are curious at the paltry D3D performance of your Titan, here is the D3D Demo app from the Treo 800w.

A little updated info on MSM7x00 driver support from htcclassaction. Basically they say to check for a couple of dependencies in ddi.dll.

I was going to download/install the windows mobile SDK tonight and see if I can see the dependencies but thought I would check to see if someone has done it already first .

our ddi.dll has no ties to disptools.dll. i think we would need a ddi.dll from another device - im not even trying.
Dcd,
And I am sure this is too obvious to be possible, but couldn't we get the ddi.dll from the Kaiser?
or is the ddi.dll needed specific to the device or the MSM7500 chipset?

there are people more capable than myself who could maybe do it, but kaiser's ddi.dll does not work for me.
DCD,
From reading the information on the MSDN link

It looks like DDI.DLL is the video driver itself?
could we possibly look to the Vogue/Touch for this driver?
Can we expect to see a Windows 7 ROM for the hero ? or does it not work like that ?????
Seeing as though you have nearly 200 posts, you should know that this should have gone in GENERAL or QnA. Please remember this for next time.

Well you got almost 1000 posts and still you say "never"....no such thing at XDA.
I remember ppl saying that Android would "never" be ported to WM phones...guess what!
only snapdragons are supported currently, xda is amazing but they can't turn an armv6 into an armv7 with a finger snap
ya know, i get the fact that winmo has been completely redesigned etc. but .. ionno , if idd have the option to choose betwen android and winmo i would totally stick with android ^_^

the only way it could be done is via virtual machine i *BELEIVE*. Youll need a powerful ass phone though to manage it, any phone in existance couldnt run it properly via vm due to requirements of additional power for virtualisation.
come to think of it, i dont know if any phone processor suports virtualisation...
Until VM Ware for mobiles gets released? I should Google that again, haven't seen any updates in a while.

Yes well android is open source and can be modified. And even then, this was only done on a WinMo device very similar to an android one.
You can look at it by comparing Macs with PCs. Can you install windows on Macs? No! Why? Because Apple won't make hardware property drivers for Windows. The same here with Android and Winmo7. When HTC will release new phone with Winmo7 devs on xda will be able to port it to similar device with similar hardware, so drivers are more or less compatible. So I agree with ddotpatel that Hero won't have running Winmo7.
On another hand technically it is possible by using reverse engineering, but that is the hell of the work so I don't think someone can do that.
... or HTC have full stock of Hero hardware which they can't sell so to reduce costs they decide to design new model with Hero hardware running Winmo7. I personally think Hero could handle Winmo7 without problems.

winmo7 has strict hardware requirements, MS would never allow it to be run on a low end phone like Hero.

really? another thread about this?
to answer this so it can be locked or merged:
1. let's stop speculating about an OS which is at least 7 months if not a year out (for ARM) techincally windows will be able to run, but getting it to run is going to depend on a lot of things we don't have details about.
2. ubuntu should be portable, it's going to depend on the bootloader to a fair degree as to how easy it is to do.
Well someone needs to take a breath lol. I was just wondering.

To be fair, you are like the 10th person to ask this question about a separate OS then the one it comes with. The answers is no one knows. Just like no one knows if Win8 will be worth a damn.
Windows 8... maybe, but there's an awful lot of unknowns there.
I'd love to have the Prime dual-boot with a Linux distro though, and that seems quite feasible (though the bootloader is an unknown; I have faith in XDA though!). That really would make it into a full netbook.

Idk about win8 (like others have said there's a thread for that) but as for linux, many devices have been able to boot Ubuntu and bt5 on top with root using chroot and androidvnc. I'm sure it will work considering I've run both on my g2x. There's a thread here on xda for those but currently at work and don't have efficient access to that link. Think its in the nexus s forums?

Im more excited about the possibilities of ICS than anything. Its different in many ways to whats out there (ginger and HC). I think there are more possibilities with stock ICD ROM than ports of any other kind. Maybe in 6 months, IF the flavor runs out, I MIGHT think going that route. But honestly, why????

If your a hacker or linux based nerd, then I get Ubuntu. power is king in code crunching. But Windows? Anyone needing windows on the move is 90% working. I dont think you need that much power for that.
If i could boot a windows 8 install off an SD Card in the dock i would be alllllllllllll about that.
i want to put the blackberry playbook OS on it, but emulated inside ICS, and then i can run android apps, emulated through the playbook OS, which is emulated through android. possibly while running an snes emulator.
it's going to be so meta, and you all will be so jealous. :|

same here.
At the moment the solution that worked for original Transformer and phones was ok but I would love to actually boot it off a usb drive or SDcard and not have to run the GUI over VNC.
Although Backtrack devs have said that the ARM image released is only for testing and they wont be supporting it. Hopefully they start to fully support it as tablets become more powerful.

Windows 8 Thread from NOVEMBER: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365283
What? Microsoft missed their mark here. I don't see them making a dent on the tablet market that it's rival Google has a hold of.
Seeing as the Touchpad (known as "TP" from this point on) section is my hangout most of the day (I have a desk job...they don't expect me to actually work do they? pfft...) I have noticed a lot of confusion for people just coming over to the TP with Android and I know myself and many others get frustrated answering the same questions over and over again in the same threads, so I thought I'd try to put something together for what I think are the most common questions. Please add to the thread and I will update the OP. I'm hoping maybe this could be something we all could link to newbies so they can better help themselves familiarize themselves.
Please keep in mind that the TP is not a native Android device, meaning it was not designed to operate with Android on it. Being that this is the case, some things just aren't going to work until extensive work is done. We don't have drivers for some things etc. Patience is a virtue, yadda yadda and all that jazz.
If you do not have Android on your TP, here's how to get CM7 on your TP.
Lets do this.
I just installed Android and as soon as it starts up, it reboots! HALP!
It's sokay! Let it reboot a few times by itself. In my experience, it would reboot four times and then be fine. Why's it do it? I dunno...it just does.

Does the Touchpad have GPS?
Short answer: NO. Long answer: Maybe? Some people claim that the Snapdragon APQ8060 CPU that is in the TP has the capability, and it certainly is a possibility as this the same CPU that is in a bunch of high end phones (T-Mobile Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, HTC Vivid, Galaxy S II LTE, LG Nitro HD, etc). Maybe some day a developer will unlock it if it is a possibility. Currently though, there is no GPS on the TP.

Bravo!!
Great idea and good first start!!! Everyone (not only us noobs) will truly appreciate this. Searching for a nugget in 500+ pages becomes a near impossible task. My only fear is that your FAQ could become almost as unwieldy as the Xron thread. A simple spreadsheet as an attachment in your OP might be helpful. A straight forward listing of known problems with a link to the best answer(s) could probably take care of the vast majority of queries. Expanded narrative for the really complex problems, e.g., wifi issues, could possibly be included in a second spreadsheet or linked back to the appropriate thread for comment. Let me know if I can help.

If you honestly and seriously know what you're talking about, and think you can help, the dev team would probably be very appreciative of assistance. Meaning, if you can code that stuff, great- lend a hand. But if you're just curious, then try to research your question without nagging the devs. They work hard, and for free. You could begin researching the topic, here.
Now, in answer to your question. I could be wrong. I'm just a simple Java/C# coder who can also do a bit of web. But it was my understanding that the driver is the issue. The source code for the kernel has been released, but (also as I understood it, I could be wrong) the entire kernel was not released. The drivers for mic and cam, however, were not released (again, if I understood correctly). So there's the problem. And further, the cam and mic are not at the top of the devs' list of priorities. They are working on other stuff that they feel is more important, about which I tend to agree, unknowingly. I mean, they recently (in the last 4-6 weeks) got us hardware acceleration working (in several applications, but not all). What I mean to say, is that there are bigger fires to be put out that users don't typically see as fires. But also, the cam and mic drivers not being released is a pretty big chunk of code. AFAIK they were going to have to begin to write these from scratch, which is a pretty hefty challenge that they've chosen not to undertake at this point. That's their prerogative, and I'm not going to nit-pick about that.
Basically, if you need cam and mic, you can install CM7 (which has bugs of its own) or you can boot into webOS. Those are our options at the moment.

Or learn software development and learn to write drivers and contribute!
Personally, I know I can't code worth a damn, so I just accept what other people write.
