I can hear caller before answering??? - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I've been using DCD's 2.3.2 Rom and Radio 3.27.00 for sometime now with much success. The past few days I've noticed a strange bug/feature. On occasion, I can actually hear the caller on the other line (talking, breathing, etc.) before I actually answer. I've tested this several times with other people and it seems to happen randomly, and usually when the call originates from a land line. Anyone know what is up with that? I actually find it interesting, you can hear what people are talking about before you answer. Kind of scarey as well

Was having the same issue. As you stated, it only happened with calls originating from landlines. Pretty cool though, I tested it and I had my friend say something to me and then when I picked up i repeated it. It was awesome lol. Doesnt happen anymore though.

Can they hear you, too? If so, this is security issue. A person can call you and overhear some of your conversation if the call catches you unprepared.

I was worried about that too, but it appears all the caller hears is ringing until I pick up, else the call goes to voicemail as usual.

That is correct. Only one way. The other person just hears rings but if they are having a convo with someone in the background while the phone is ringing, you can hear it till you pick up, if you dont pick up they are sent to voicemail and you can no longer hear them.

I posted the same issue a few days back, it's very annoying but now i've gotten used to it and I wait until I hear static and then start talking, otherwise, there was about a 5 second delay from when I pressed answer to when I could actually talk.

I experienced this a long time ago. I think that might have been before I saw the dcd light and I was using 2.17, so this problem may go back a while. That is a very interesting insight that it is only when a land line is calling. I did not realize that. I only happened a few times, ans now I know why. Who calls from land lines anymore?

Same is happening to me i am about to take my phone in for a replacement.
Oh and I get this with any phone who calls me land or cell. I even re locked and flashed back to 2.16 sprint stock. i still get the problem. I'll let you know what sprint tells me.

I wonder if it will still happen with the lattest ROM..
Boy, this Mogul really is a peice of crap isnt it? So much for being the flagship model.

Not only when called from a landline phone.
This is NOT only when a landline is calling, matter of fact, it happens when it's either a landline OR a cellphone, about a 6-second delay every time.

I have been having this issue with the newest DCD Rom. I can hear the person through the speaker phone while the phone is ringing. Doesn't happen every time and they were calling from a cell phone.

Late sms, voicemails, and no missed call notifications

i dont know if this has been addressed, but my search did not reveal this exact problem...
when im not on my phone, and i have full bars, i do not get my calls or sms, it just stays the way it is, i have to click on messages in order to "re-activate" it then i get my sms VERY late, and voicemails late. i checked this out a little more by calling my phone time to time, and i get 2 rings, then goes straight to voicemail, and my phone never got the call, and the voicemail comes through my phone about 30 min late...same thing with sms, i message my phone time to time, and i dont get the sms till late. is this a radio issue? my device info is on my sig...
i had this same problem when i was running the 1.40 radio with black 4 shadow...i switched roms and all is well now.

Yup, similarly, but just in reverse. My 8525 [HERM100] from Cingular/TheNewAT&T was running BlackMajic [Hot! BadA$$ Rom] and it worked fantastically with regards to reception and updates from the network... but I dropped my handset and the damn external speaker wouldn't work suddenly. So no ringing and no speakerphone whatsoever... obviously this wasn't going to fly with me... so, i went to the cingular store, spoke to them in a language they understood [telephonics/telephonease, lol] and they handed over a new handset (honestly I haven't the faintest idea how I managed it... it was amazing though... )
ANYWAYS!!!!'
so i haven't had a the chance till now to get their default latest rom outta there and get majik back on, but I'm telling you what. For it being their latest release for the rom... this piece of **** doesn't work for ****! half my calls aren't dropped, their just non existant all together, same with voice or text notifications... it's the radio ROM, I'm sure of it.
bump!!!!!!!!

[Q] Missing calls...kinda?

Okay, now I'm just plain confused. I have the same missing call issues everyone else is having, either missing the call completely, or getting a missed call notice without the actual call. One time I even got the missed call notice like half an hour after the call.
Anyway, I'm used to all that. But just recently, it's doing something different. I received a call, and knew it once I saw the voicemail show up in my Google Voice inbox. I checked my phone when I saw that, and it was ringing. Apparently my volume was down and I didn't catch it, but I'd assume it had been ringing for a while. But there was nothing about any incoming or missed call. Nothing about calls at all. Aside from the fact that it was ringing, it was completely normal. The ringing didn't stop until I made an outgoing call of my own.
So apparently it got something about the call. At first, I'd assumed it was just a Google Voice notification, but I don't have Voice installed on my phone. So something's making my phone...phantom ring when I get a call, but not telling me about the call in any way.
I'm running MIUI with the Glitch kernel, but this has only been the last two or three calls I missed that did this. Even with the same ROM and kernel, it was fine before.
Anyone have any experience with this? I'm not even sure how to explain it. But if my phone's gonna recognize when someone's calling, it'd be much nicer if I was given an option to answer it.
Hm... I've had the phantom ring and I've had the missed calls, but never at the same time.
Phantom ring is a problem with the cm7/miui ROMS and missed calls is a problem with the handset. So, technically, if you were impatient, you could call Verizon tech support and get a new phone because of the missed call issue and be done with it entirely. Otherwise, you can wait to see if Verizon releases a new OTA to fix the call issue (Check out the ED05 stuff... that's a newly leaked upgrade, but idk what it does), which (hopefully) will fix the phantom ringer as well by allowing the phone to pick up the call correctly.

I'd have just chalked it up to coincidence, but to do it twice in a row like that, it just seems unlikely. I've heard of some phantom ring issue before, but like you said, never when a call should be coming through.
I wouldn't be against having it replaced, but that's not really an option for me. For one, I bought it from someone on Craigslist rather than Verizon, so I'd assume they wouldn't like that. And even putting that aside, I'm not even technically a Verizon customer. I'm with PagePlus. So I figure I'll have to make the best I can of this, or buy another on my own. And really, aside from the missed call issue, I've been loving the Fascinate, so I'd rather not give it up.
It was doing so well for a while, until I flashed MIUI. I don't regret that, though. MIUI is great.
Yeah, I get what you're saying... In which case, wait for the new fix that Samsung is *supposedly* working on to come out and one of the devs to patch it into cm7/miui or a new radio. If anyone else knows of any legit fixes as of now, I'd like to know as well.
In the meantime, it looks to everyone like you're selectively screening your calls - it makes you more mysterious

I really wish I could trust Samsung's word on that.
...I really wish. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't have the most sparkling record when it comes to fixing software issues. Of course, assuming they're footing the bill for these replacements, I'd imagine they probably would want to get it worked out as soon as they can.
There's some new radio in the dev forum, but I'm unsure about that. Nothing's really specified as to whether it's a leaked radio or what. I'd rather not risk flashing it until I know that it's not gonna kill my signal completely or anything.
Well, I've got a bit more info on this. ...Unfortunately, it makes no more sense at all. It would appear that my phone has decided that it won't receive calls with the screen off at all.
If the screen's on, call comes through as normal. If it's off, it simply does nothing at all. The screen doesn't come on, it doesn't ring, nothing. Then once I do turn the screen on, it does the phantom ringing until I do something to stop it. Even if the screen's turned back off. It's also worth mentioning that the ring isn't even my own ringtone. It's the default...ring ringtone.
If I turn the screen on while the call is coming through, it turns on like it's waiting for me to answer the call. As soon as I hit the button, it's showing me the phone screen and starts ringing with my normal ring.
It's worth nothing that it also does this immediately after being locked. So I don't think it's a sleep mode issue. It shouldn't have time to go into sleep mode. Of the issues I've had with missed calls before, I usually need to leave my phone untouched for a while. Not the case here.
It wasn't doing this before, though. And I didn't change anything that should cause it.
...Or maybe I did. Seems turning off the stay awake option in settings worked it out. Hopefully, anyway. Won't know for sure until it...well, doesn't miss calls.

[Q] Call waiting status

Hi,
Is there a way to know that the person I am calling is on call waiting?
I didn't notice any different sound or notification on screen when i'm calling someone who's already having a conversation. I'd be interested in a solution for that too, maybe i'm missing something
Guys,
no one has a workaround for this. old phones always had this feature, how come smartphones dont?
Don't you hear a short beep every ?? seconds? I thought that's how it worked. I have never tried it on my SGS2.
No beep, just the default ringtone pattern as if calling someone who's not speaking at the phone in that moment.

yeah that is it, works fine for me, yesterday i was on a call and had another call coming through it made some beeping noises so i hung up and took the call.
Remember you have to actually activate the call waiting with your network in order for it to work but it works 100% with the GS2 ive used it many times.
Thanks for confirming that. I was sure this is how it works.

[Q] Wierd phone noise, please help.

I just got my razr and new to Motorola. Ive had android phones for years but they have always been Samsung. I get a blown speaker like sound sometimes when talking on the phone. It can normally be heard when you first dial a number and the phone rings the first time and sometimes on the second ring but normally is gone and rings normal afterwards. Is this actually normal? Is there anything i can do about it? Its quite annoying. IDK if it matters but im in a 4g Verizon network and never had this issue on any other phone ive had.

[Q] Call Quality DNA

I'm hoping it's something I'm missing in the set up or some minor other issue but after I finally got the DNA activated I made two calls.
Both calls were choppy on both ends of the call. This phone has gotten stellar reviews on reception quality. Volume and clarity.
I'm being told that the listener hears only bits and pieces of my voice and I hear the same from them.
All my other phones worked fine from my house where I made the calls.
Any thoughts on this from you guys on what might be happening?
Could something be defective on my DNA? Or does this sometimes happen with new out of the box phones?

Definitely sounds defective. Sound quality on mine is stellar!
I have to concur.... I've made about a dozen calls so far, and I have had no problems with quality at all.

If worse comes to worse (I'm hoping this is going to correct itself) can I return it to a local Verizon store for an exchange or do I have to ship it back to Verizon?
I'm going to try the store first on Friday (and I'd rather be shot then to do it on Black Friday).
Are you guys suggesting that this is probably a bad set?

I'm sure you can exchange in store even if you ordered online. Also, for what it's worth, my call quality has been very, very good. In fact, the clarity, at least on my end, has been noticeably better than the last couple phones I've had so if yours is really that bad when under ideal circumstances, that sounds like it might be a unique issue with your phone.

I don't want to leave this post without a follow up.
Yesterday when I (finally) activated my DNA: I then made two new voice calls.
As I stated above the calls were choppy and very bad on both ends.
I waited until this morning and made some more voice calls. Even from the same location.
All calls have been clear, audio R9, and more or less perfect.
I had forgotten that about five years ago also on a new cell phone: I had this same issue when activating and calling for the first time.
Nobody could hear me clearly and I could not hear them. The next day and forever after all was fine.
I am not a mobile device geek but I'm sure there is a deep dark explanation for this anomaly.
My son told me that I don't need to know what was happening yesterday but that today is what counts.
I still wonder.
The end result of this problem is that I did have a defective DNA device after all!
It did not fix itself, as I alluded to above.
The Verizon store gave me a new DNA and all is now good.
So.....for anyone interested, it is possible to receive a defective hardware (reception/radio/speaker/whatever) issue with this set.
At Verizon right now seeing if they give me an exchange on my DNA

Tell them that a new device should correct it. It did for me.
"Device type guys" might love the challenge of sitting around waiting for a future HTC update fix.
Just get a new set.....and walk away.
They wouldn't exchange it they couldn't get it to replicate the problem.

The problem is a fact!
Fortunately the employees at my store know me and know that I do not imagine issues.
A new DNA phone (for me) eliminated the problem.
When making calls you will hear the person you are speaking to clear as a bell.
But they are hearing your voice in the following manner:
1. Your voice fades in and out.
2. Some of your words are chopped out.
3. You sound to them like you are talking in a "tunnel".
Call Verizon and tell them that other buyers have successfully returned this set and the new one issued had no problems.
Get a new phone and don't settle for a HDC update.
Yes....some calls are fine. But I don't want "some" calls to be fine!
I want every call to be great on a new phone.

I'm not having any issues at all with call quality, but I have noticed that my touchscreen isn't nearly as sensitive as my Rezound was. I am constantly getting missed letters when typing on keyboard or having to double tap 3 or 4 times before my screen zooms. I'm thinking this is also a hardware issue and will likely try to get it swapped out soon. Has anyone else had sensitivity problems?
I need help... I keep getting told that the phone quality on the other end is just terrible that the other person just cant hear me at all. (That I sound like im in a tunnel and far away from my phone) I need to figure out a way to record the proof so i can take it to a verizon and get an exchange. Can someone or anybody give me any suggestions? I need help really bad.
go under phone settings and make sure voice privacy or any other sound cancelling settings are not turned on. Those really screw up call quality for me.

Tell the store you want a new phone! Call them from another location and speak to the manager. Ask him or her how well they can hear you.
My phone was so bad that every call I made the receiving party noticed it dramatically.
Send me a PM and I'll identify the store or you can ship the phone directly to Verizon within your 14 day period for a replacement set.
Your phone is defective and it's not going to change.

To me it almost seems like a distance thing. If I call people that are in the same house as me it seems to be working ok but for some reason making longer distance calls is where the problem is...
