DCD's 3.0.0 INSTALL GUIDE!! - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

If your having trouble installing the radio(I was). DCD hinted that you should try installing the Sprint rom first-The official one-http://www.america.htc.com/mogulupdate/)
Then after that is done installing go ahead and flash his 3.0.0 rom.
Everything should work great. Also if you were wondering you DO NOT need to relock ur device. Use oli pro's bootloader and enter bootloader mode by pressing camera power and the soft reset button. Do this for both the HTC rom and dcd's.
Any questions feel free to reply back, hope my info helped!!

now when u say flash his 3.0.0 rom...do we just open BuildNB.bat ? in the kitchen rar file? cuz i've never seen a rom that had all those folders and files, usually i just get a single .nbh file or .exe

I don't really see much of an install guide here, so I'll go ahead and post how I did it.
I'm running dcd's 3.0.0 and it's working great. PLEASE BE AWARE: At this point, there is only a kitchen, not a released rom. You will need to "cook" your own Rom. Instructions below.
Steps I took: (Coming from a previous Stock ROM)
1) Backup using PPCPimBackup (optional)
2) Hard Reset (optional)
3) Install the new Sprint 3.35 Rom/Radio
4) Install SPL-olipro 2.40 Bootloader
5) Download/extract dcd's 3.0.0 kitchen
6) Download/install Visual C++ 2008 Runtime
7) In the kitchen, run 'BuildNB.bat'
8) Follow the instructions, pick packages/carrier, and let it do it's thing
9) Let the RUU install this new Rom.
10) Install apps and restore backup
I hope that's helpful to those trying this for the first time.

yep that seemed to do it, not sure why but gotter going now

mine gets stuck at the splash screen!!! help???

niec help from kd5ftn

so, the first post says put it in bootloader mode, but the "more complete" instructions don't mention bootlader mode. Does it matter?
Also, would it be better if I used an XP machine? I have Vista Home Premium, but I have access to an XP machine if there will be less problems.

Yeah, I'm not sure why he's manually entering the bootloader. Once the Rom Update Utility ran for each process, It pretty much did it it all for me.
I'm unfotunately not experienced enough cooking kitchen's to know more. I kind of like to get things setup and leave them alone. So far, everything with my phone feels quicker and more polished.

FYI you'll need .Net framework 2 or higher for this to run, i tried it from work but it wouldn't run since we only have 1.1 and i don't want to mess with my work machine for something like this.
Also don't run it from a thumb drive... it takes a LONG time before it does ANYTHING.

I'd like to know also...

Me as well. I would also like to know the small details...like:
What values I need to record and how to get them
Where to get my A-Key (It is not listed where everybody says it should be),
Should I shut off the radio before beginning,
Will a hard reset improve my chances of this working,
If I sync my contacts and calender before I begin, will it restore back after?
I wrote Verizon asking about there timetable for this upgrade, but if they do not get back to me soon I may take the plunge and start flashing myself. The Kitchen seems easy to use, and there is an update in the Radio thread on how to get it to work.

Starting from 2.3.2 and using post #3. I did steps 3, stopping the initialization after the HTC mobility screen came up. Skipped step 4 (already on the Phone), and did 5 through 9. Allowed phone to boot up after installing 3.0.0 with Verizon selected in the Kitchen. Previous installations I had Akey and data connection issues each time with Verizon, this time very smooth, just did a *228 option 1 for insurance. Had to reload my [email protected] in the data connection entry. Relatively painless.

flashing phone back to normal

i have had many problems since i upgraded my phone. sometimes if i do a soft reset, my phone gets stuck in the rainbow screen and sometimes takes a while to get back to normal. i want to just update my phone back to normal since i actually want to send it into sprint. Can someone please let me know what i need to do in order to do this, thanks
either go to htc website or sprint website and down load latest released rom and install. It should be a complete install back to original radio and rom.
Does anyone know how to return my verizon xv6800 back to factory, I unlocked/flashed to get gps to work and it updated to windows 6.1 which i dont like and I want it back to factory. Verizon cant do anything and neither can htc. has anyone done this?

Yes, relocker then the ROM and Radio are actually both included in the same file this time.
So run the relocker, unpack the ROM file and place the .nbh file in the RUU folder and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe.
ok not so good luck so far, have ran the reLocker and went to your links to d/l and there is no program to run them, Im relativerly new to this and need help quick what is my next step????

ok so you are saying i dont have to flash the factory radio one??
This ROM file is the full thing that includes the radio as well, so no need for a separate radio flash.
So, just to recap here for anyone still curious...
Once you run the Relocker (which will restore your bootloader to factory - also disallowing any new custom roms) then you're ready to run the Rom Update Utility (RUU) from the ROM you downloaded from Verizon or HTC's website.
the ROM update will flash both your radio as well as your ROM. good luck!

I am curious because I have all of the files and know what to do, but so far I have not had any of the problems that everyone else has had so have not needed to try it yet, so let us know that all is well just for comfort. Thanks.
In fact, all is well.
I flashed back to the stock VZW ROM (third time I think), I made sure all of my provisioning issues with Verizon were worked out (finally had the tech "kick the switch").
1) Then I proceeded to load the 2.4 bootloader,
2) then the 3.16 Unauthorized Sprint ROM w/ radio,
3) then finally installed a cooked DCD 2.3.2 ROM.
Things to note:
1) I never let the Sprint ROM boot up
2) I had no signal so ran *22802 then hit End as soon as it connected
3) Still no signal after reboot
4) No A key, MSID, or MDN issues, but I did re-enter the MSID and MDN as discussed in other threads
5) After re-entering MSID and MDN then after reboot I had signal
6) never had to run *228 to OTA program (in the past programming with *228 has reversed the effect of re-entering the MSID and MDN)
In general, I feel that the OTA from VZW sends down some programming that conflicts with the 3.27 radio...but I have nothing to prove that.
GPS is running great (I just loaded the AstroGPSLauncher)
Not sure about Rev A. It does seem snappy. What's a good site to test from the phone?
I'm happy and not re-flashing until a solid radio for Verizon arrives.
just to let everyone know i ran the factory rom and it worked perfectly, phone is back to normal, thanks !!l

This is a bit off-topic so apologies...
But I am left wondering that if you can include the Radio into the rom,
Has DCD or No2Chem tried to integrate the radio flash into the rom and see if some of the issues with the radio goes away?
I doubt separate install could be a cause of anything but it might be worth looking into.

[Update 6/16] Titan Bootsplash Cooking Tutorial - WIKI

Updated 6/16/08:
-Created bootsplash kitchen along with instructions.
-Included information about flashing via microsd card.
Little background on Titan boot sequence for those who don't know exactly what this kitchen/tutorial does:
Many confuse the term "ROM" with the OS ROM. The term "ROM" has been used so often in conjunction with the OS ROM, that it's become jargon. When one refers to the "ROM" he/she usually is referring to the OS ROM. The ROM is the read only memory that can only be altered with a firmware flash. In actuality, there are 5 parts that make up the total ROM.
1. SPL - Bootloader
2. Radio - GSM or CDMA radio
3. First Splash - Splash screen that shows Protocol, Rom, and Radio versions.
4. Second Splash - Splash screen after the Protocol, Rom, and Radio versions disappear.
5. OS - The OS, a.k.a. what you flash when you cook a rom with dcd's kitchen etc.
This is how we're able to flash the bootloader, radio, OS etc. separately. You notice this more when you flash with the microsd card. When the bootloader loads and checks the image, it tells you exactly what part of the ROM it is. If you're flashing the OS, it says OS. If you're flashing the radio, it says CDMA (type of radio the Titan uses).
The Titan has either 3 or 4 boot splashes depending on whether or not you use a startup animation. The first 2 are part of the ROM. The 3rd and 4th are the startup animation (if included as part of OS ROM) and the welcomehead splash (Windows Mobile splash, which can easily be changed without flashing anything by copying/pasting your image of choice named welcomehead.96.png to \Windows on your phone).
This kitchen cooks the First and Second Splashes of the ROM.

Haha, well no real reason to have it now anyway right?
You testing this out? If so let me know how the tutorial was and post up your bootsplash!
That goes for everyone, I'd like to get some feedback on how it goes. It seems like a lot of steps, but once you master it, it takes like a minute tops...screw using ppcgeeks kitchen for this.
Also, if you'd like to share your bootsplash, post it up!

Ok - Works great.... I did however make a batch file so that it's just easier to click on it instead of using a DOS box, lots of people may have an issue finding the folder they saved the images in, and it autostarts Duttys.... I can AIM it too you GC....
Here's my screen.....
GC14, was just wondering... You say that there is no way around the hard reset. Well if i remember correctly, quite a wails back, in the 3.27 Leaked ROM era, when i would flash my mogul with the leaked ROM, was the first time i got that annoying "Test purpose only" Boot screen flash.
Well my attempt to change it was to use the official Rom before this, by doing the SD card method, and only wait for it to say Finish flashing bootscreen, and i would reset the device immediately, to prevent any corruption.
This method indeed changed my boot screen splash, and nothing else, and it didn't hard reset anything.
So shouldn't anyone be able to just place the .nbh file into a SD card, and let it just flash the boot screen that way?
I'm only saying.. i actually haven't tried it, since i did it the long way anyway.

I've never tried it. I simply said there's no way around the hard reset if you use the RUU. First and foremost, if people are going to try it, they have to rename RUU_signed.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh. If you want to try it and let me know, go for it.
Thanks gc14 (aka gcincotta ) for the tutorial. Worked great...now to play with some different splash screens!
Just to be clear this will hard reset the phone but will not erase the ROM. This means all contacts, programs, settings, etc... will be left intact?
great tutorial! worked like a champ! Thanks!

Flashing via the microsd card is the same whether flashing rom, radio, or bootsplashes. Non microsdhc card, formatted to FAT32, with cluster size less than 4k.
Which splash screen is this? The Windows one or the (on DCD Verizon) the white verizon screen?

Need help flashing newest DCD ROM

Ok, I'll admit... I'm a newb and even the wiki is somewhat confusing. I've flashed my XV6800 before using this guide:
http://www.phonenews.com/how-to-add-gps-to-htc-mogul-xv6800-p4000-titan-2663/
And it's been working well with the GPS.
But I would like to try tethering and so I want to upgrade to the latest DCD but I am confused as to the Radio/Etc.
Can anyone point me to the right direction on what Radios, etc. I need.
The end result is, I want to do both GPS and Tethering and still connect to Verizon.
Thanks in advance!

If you currently have GPS running.... what Radio do you have?
If you want the latest and greatest read this "Compatibility List"

More than likely... you'll just need to update using DCD's rom. No radio needed.
I have Radio 3.27.00, which is incompatible. So I will need to upgrade the radio too but I don't see 3.35.00 or better for download.

Here's the 3.42.30 radio...
3.42.30
Thanks for the link to the Radio.
So can anyone help me with the order of the loading... this is what I did last time and it worked like a charm.
* Open Hard-SPL-240-MFG.exe. It will extract files into C:\ttn240mfg, and then launch an unlocker. Follow the instructions on screen.
* Once it has been completed, launch the device’s software update. Follow the instructions on screen for the updater.
* Following the updater’s final instructions, power cycle the device as instructed (holding power and reset buttons simultaneously). The device will likely freeze at startup on your carrier’s logo. This is normal.
* When the device does freeze, hold power, camera, and reset buttons. This will send the device into what is known as Bootloader Mode.
* Connect the Titan back to your computer. Run the baseband radio firmware update, similar to the instructions above.
* When finished, power cycle again as instructed, holding power and reset buttons to complete the update.
But now I have the DCD ROM, the Radio and the extra Verizon Cab. What order do I do them in? The Wiki really doesn't go into the order like that.
Still looking for a little guidance here.

Thanks for the reply. One more question before I bite the bullet and give this a try. The last radio I did was an EXE file and it loaded it into my machine.
It looks like the 3.42 radio I downloaded is a nbh file. It appears from the wiki that I need ROMUpdateUtility.exe to load it. Is this correct, and if so, where can I find it. I see many references to it... but no working links. The wiki even insinuates that it should be in the ROM folder... but I looked for it in all the DCD kitchen rom folders but couldn't find it.
Thanks!

Actually... if you have 2.4 bootloader... you can copy that TITAIMG.nbh file onto a formatted SD card and start the bootloader. It will load it then. if you use ROMUpdateUtility.exe... I believe you have to name it RUU_signed.nbh and put it into the same folder as that exe.
Unfortunately, I don't have a non-HD card to throw it on and I heard there were problems with the SHDC cards.
Do you have a working link for the ROM Update utility? I've tried several links on xda, but none of them seem to be working.
Thanks!

I got my phone yesterday around 4 pm. Short of doing some homework I have been researching how to get the most out of it all night. I attempted to use QPST but that led to my phone being unable to sync at all with my computer. I would like to do this manually if at all possible. The problem is that I do not have a "Security or EPST" option under view. Where would I find those exactly?
I also have some questions about DCD 3.3.4 ROM:
Will ActiveSync still work?
Will I be able to install all of the freeware apps and have them run properly as if from stock?
I have a US Cellular phone; once I flash it will be impossible to go back to stock, correct?
What would be the necessary steps to get the 2.47 bootloader if all I have is USB and an 8gig microSD card?
My bootloader version currently installed is listed as 1.07.0000, the wiki does not mention this version; will it be a problem?
I also want to double check my steps, considering the above is true (about not returning to stock) I want to make damn sure I do this right the first time:
EPST settings copy
Install bootloader 2.40 via USB
Run ROM Update Utility with 3.42.50 in RUU folder via USB
Go to loader screen via PWR-CMRA-RST
Run DCD 3.3.4 via USB
Any help or advice (or both) is greatly appreciated. Thanks to anyone that helps in advance.
besides dcd 3.3.4 I woudl also check out Skips ROM
Aloha, DCD 3.3.4 is awsome I was using that for a long while until Skip came out with V 1.1 I am currently running Skip's WM6.1 build 20954 v1.1 Lite and Kitchen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468707 I think you would probably like this ROM very fast, lite and lean. It has a update downloader in it that allows you to add in things like Office and OneNote. The other thing it seems to have and Skip would have to correct me if I am wrong but in the Kitchen as options Unloack and hard spl phone, flash radio 3.42.50, cooking the ROM is very easy in that kitchen just follow the instruction. He has also created a very easy to use CAB to OEM packager.
Also make sure you read through the wiki if this your first time burning a rom to a phone. The help there is very well done.
So far I really like the speed of this ROM it has no problem running the new IOLITE version of M2D.
You need a 2gb or smaller card, even if you just buy it, flash it, and then toss it, you need the 2gb or less for HardSPL2.47 to load, and also to flash the radio you should use SD card as well.
Once these 2 steps are done, you don't need the smaller card and can switch to the 8gb card.
There is no going back once you flash HardSPL2.47, there is no stock rom, so once you do that first step you must finish or your phone will no longer be functional.
You definitely want to get QPST working first so that you can read the phone's programming, otherwise your phone will never work correctly, it can be fixed by hand but is a real pain in the butt.
BTC
So I should definitely pick up a 2gig or smaller just to get this installed? Could I pull it off with like a 512meg card or do I need something a little bigger?

flash

Before I flash my phone for the very first time, I need to know some things.
I know there are threads who give info, but they aren't always up-to-date or handeling about my phone.
So I want to know, I heard about a third version of HSPL.
What are the things that I need to do?
If I want to install a new rom, I first install HSPL, then the rom, but do I have to install something like a radio too? or something else?
Will a custom rom always work in my language (BE/DUTCH),
and which rom is good for texting (no lag etc).
I want a clean and smooth rom, with not much BS. Any advice?
I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm stuck with them for a long long time and I want to be well prepared.
Version of OS: 5.2.21869
Manila: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM: 1.66.404.1 (76641) NLD
RADIO: 2.06.51.07
Follow this thread step by step and you cant go wrong.
Its link you to HSPL3 and anything else you might need.
It tells you how to flash a radio (if you need to).....
It will tell you which radio you need in the thread for the rom your going to use....
You just have to read through all the rom threads to find out which one is going to be best for you...... I'd reccomend energy roms... I think they might only be available in english though. Different languages available will be listed in the rom thread...
The flash only takes 10 minutes...its the reading up first thats the time consuming part....
Hope it all goes well for you
thanks for the advice, I will follow it and read everything 10 times before flashing anything

Yea. Read it very very very carefully. Once you grasp the process, it's so easy and intuitive.

blimey, you can come again! hehe
So here are the steps that I'm about to take: (first off I saved all my data, sms, etc elsewhere).
1) flash HSPL 3

Seems all ROMs based on 1.42, 1.66, 1.XX can work with 2.08 SPL without problems.*

My ROM is 1.66.404.1 (76641) NLD, so it seems that this is okay to do. I think I have the 'usualleo', can I check this somewhere?
When I look into RAM SIZE, it says 512 MB, and I don't know what telstra is, but I definitly won't need the last one (1024). I also think in HSPL itself, I need to choose 2.08.HSPL.
Next, I'm about to flash my first custom rom, and will follow the steps given here:
Flashing Via ActiveSync
1. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your computer
2. REMOVE SIM and microSD CARDS!! (this is a precautionary measure and is not compulsory)
3. Turn phone back on and wait until it syncs with your PC
4a. If your Rom is a .exe (customRUU.exe is already included in the Rom file) then run the file
4b. If your Rom is a .nbh file then run the CustomRUU.exe from the Roms Folder (if one isnt included then download it *HERE*)
5. Follow onscreen instructions to set up your New Rom
6. Once phone has gone through the customisation procedure then replace Sim and microSD Cards
7. Perform a Hard Reset to clear any leftover data from your previous Rom (see intructions at bottom).
8. Set up phone as required and job done.

I really can't find what ROM I should use..
I want a rom with landscape built in and the sms client 2016.
Are there much roms which include this?
yea thats all OK, except you dont really need to remove sim and sd. Only if you're stroubleshooting.
Plus, most cooked roms support 'autoinstall', , , create a folder on your sd card called autoinstall, put in there any cabs that are essentials, and the rom will install them as part of the post flash setup process.
as to which rom for what, thats gotta be down to you. Theyre all good, theres no such thing as a best rom, and what works brilliantly for one person makes the next person weep with frustration.
Flashing only takes 5/10 mins, you can try out a dozen roms in an evening.
Dont forget you only need apply hspl once. It will stay there till you either flash a stock from sd card (dont do this, theres no need nowadays) or you can run hspl2 (yes, hspl2) and choose your stock spl (1.42.0000 or 1.66.0000 or whatever)
can I run HSPL 2 after I firstly installed HSPL 3 for the custom rom I'm about to choose? And I'm guessing roms come packed (7z/zip/rar), need to unpack those files I guess? How do you actually start cooking a rom?
edit: I also gonna remove everything (hard reset) before I start flashing anything, so I start clean
Okay this is coming really close now:

Download Artemis 23.0 level A NLD (this I'm about to use)
I'm gonna go with artemis, but I also want a higher radio version. should I update my radio or my rom first? And how do I know which radio is compactible with that rom? the ones adviced in the rom? http://www.pilotlogic.com/artemis/htc_hd2_radio/ these?
I'm a bit confused what steps to take, in which order.
I know I have to HSPL first, (gonna use HSPL 3)
but then I doubt which to do first, rom or radio. And is it easy to install? Can I make any mistakes on this? what are the things that need special attention? thanks in advance guys, for all the help!
doesn't matter which order, except if you do rom first your phone will hang till you enter bootloader and flash a matching radio so most people say radio first.
heres how i'd do it
1 hspl3 (only needs doing once, not every time you flash)
2 enter bootloader manually
3 flash the radio
4 when it gets to 100% and is about to reboot, hold down voldown to go back into bootloader
5 flash the rom
6 allow phone to boot properly

SUPERB!! Thank you for the clear advice! Will try this step by step tonight. Thanks samsamuel I really like xda everybody is helping out :d
I used the video guides the first time..........
Id have freaked out about the radio hanging at 96% if I hadnt already seen that on the video.
Watch each step before you do it, that way you know what to expect.....
Happy flashing.........

damn guys? I'm really DOUBTING, should I flash a rom or a radio first?
I'm scared if I flash my rom first my cell won't startup because of incompactibility with my phone's rom? Or reversed ways. Can anyone advise me before I start?
Edit: took a leap of faith and trusted on the posts above, and I'm now running a new radio now only my rom and I'm done. Gonna see the video's and tuts first. I'll keep you updated. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW this radio is GREAT! my sound quality has improved like A LOT! very strange, with my original rom, I always heard noises, now it's way clearer when I call
