Hi All,
I have a HTC Gene PPC. I want to upgrade my PPC OS from the default HTC WM5 to WM6 but I don't want to brick it...
ALso as I am first time user I want to take backup of original ROM before updating so that in case something goes wrong I am able to switch back to the OEM WM5....
Can pls tell me how can I take Backup of Original ROM with was shipped with my HTC P3400 ( Gene's name in India) ?
I tried searching the same on the xda forum but I couldn't find.... I may have missed.. but I really tried hard...
So can some one pls help me ?

Hello Freinds
Last night I tried to splash my Gene (Bought on 17th Feb '09)
It gave error msg wrong version of SPL...HSPL Fail
I stopped there...till now my phone is working fine..but I want to load new ROM
I used gene_hspl_HT8x.exe to splash my phone
Senior Members please help this child in trouble....

Nobody in this world can tell you a phone is old or new gene. Its only become known when you follow the process given in tutorial actually. If you read the tutorial instead of wasting time here, you will get to know exactly what i mean. THis is a developers forum, for heavens sake, and you cant even read a 1 page tutorial?

sorry 4 bumping the thread again, but I have a query.
Can you please mention which tut you are talking about?
As I have covered the test spl tut and come to know that i have new htc gene(bought 3 days ago). But I get the same error.
what should i do to unlock spl?

Thanks for reply.
When I run gene_hspl_ht8x.exe I get error in a small diloug box is
"'Gene HSPL'
Unknown version of SPL.
HSPL FAIL."
btw, If I try to unlock spl with sumit's trick old hspl wont work for me for sure.and my gene will brick. But what if the new hspl is not even working on it? My phone will be bricked for ages....

I do not if it will work for you or not. There is a spl file in Zelalat's ROM thread by ankit360, the Hard SPL file or rather the Gene Bricker (LOL) worked for me from that post. But do it at your own risk.

BTW, right now krazy has an excellent tutorial, ramersonw has another, but you people just dont have enough time to read the forum. When I came to the Gene forum, what three or four months back there was nothing of this sort in the forum and everything was totally unorganized. Yet I was able to flash my Gene without asking much and reading a lot.

first of all sumits stiky is the first posting no one needs a guide to find it and i think this guy has not even read it when i did it their was no help but now we have very detail simple tuts for every thing so let him read try and then ask for help

You have your gene unlocked by the easy tut. but I have bought it 2 days ago.
I have a low post count so this doesnt mean that Im a nub.Im reading this forum from 3 weeks ago. I have all the tools from the stickies, and i have followed them all.
So if you think you are wasting your time, please ignore thise thread. thread.

^^I flahshed my Gene on the same day I bought it without any tutorial, so your point is?
Have you tried the file in Zelalat's thread (ankit's Post not zelalat's, that did not work for me)

i flashed my Phone after 6 months of buying my phone i joined this forum few days since i got my phone but the day i decided to do HSPL i decided that it was my decision and at that time their was no tut here and just because u bought ur phone a few days back dose not mean people here have to jump to help u and buy the way this has nothing to do with post iv been here for a long time and my post count might be less than ur so

Firstly Mind Your Manners Everyone.

imblfmstr, as you can see (check that big banner in my signature).
There are tips on creating a new Thread about YOUR problem.
It helps to go through the stickies, because after that you can mention which steps you have tried from those stickies.
(in case you then decide to start a new thread)
And try to imagine that your device does not get saved by the tips in the Stickies, but by something not mentioned in the sticky and that then only gets posted in this new thread.
Because most people would go through the stickies this (hypothetical) new information might get lost to those users.
That is why a lot of users try to make clear the importance of posting and using the stickies instead of opening a new thread that can easily disappear to page 147 (which no one ever reads)

I am very afraid to upgrade my HTC Gene to new ROM cooked here by our friend chefs but also want to try it once. In case anything goes wrong i want to rollback to the Original WM6.0 ROM that came with my HTC New Gene. Is it possible to backup the existing ROM and then i can give a try to the New ROM's cooked here.

I Upgraded the ROM on my p3400i Gene New a fe days back and can't stop Upgrading it over and over again. I tried cooking but, keep getting an error or the other. I'm unable to find a BASE ROM for my Phone. Is there any other Tool which is a little more User Friendly? Any help would be GREAT..........I want to Create a ROM with the Application I need.

I have made up my mind to flash a new ROM.
I am planning to try Dutty's Topaz Sense 2.5 Holy Grail R6 Multi-Lang |WWE] [LP].
I have downloaded the following and had the backup of my files (system files) using Sprint Backup and read the "Flashing your first ROM? - A guide".
1. Duttys_Topaz_2.16_Sense_2.5_5.2.21882.5.0.73_Holy_Grail_R6_LP.zip
2. Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL.zip
3. TopazSPLRelocker_SPL133.zip
4. SSPL-Manual-TopazV5_01.zip
I have couple of question before flashing the rom.
1. Whether the ROM (Duttys_Topaz_2.16_Sense_2.5_5.2.21882.5.0.73_Holy_Grail_R6_LP) will be suitable for HTC Touch Dimaond2 T5353(please see my signature for other build/os/radio version)? Whether LP is good or TP? Which one to choose any suggestion?
2. Whether this ROM is the latest version or any other version is out?
3. I will HardSPL and then install the ROM as per the instructions in "Flashing your first ROM? - A guide".
If anything went wrong, whether can I able to revert back my original WM 6.5 offical rom (RUU_Topaz_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.17.707.1_Radio_Sign_Topaz_61.44tc.25.32_4.49.25.17_Ship).
If so, please suggest how to do it? any instructions/guide on it?
4. What is the advantage of flasing the ROM in SD card rather than in the internal memory?
5. I am going to try for first time, if possible suggest an interesting/stable ROM other than Dutty's. Since many people using Dutty it should be stable..if anyother is also available..pls suggest

Thanks for your help. I got it and however I have just postponed the flashing the ROM. I don't want to get into an issue. I am planning to go through this forum for couple more weeks to famarlize the things related to ROM development on Windows Mobile. I am learning more things on this forum, but yet to learn more...
michaeljohn, reading your posts I remembered when I was so afraid to make the first step, some months ago...
The whole process is very smooth, quick and safe, if you follow the guides. To be honest, I regret not doing it before.
In my case, my wife bought a french TD2, with a 6.1 WM. I needed to change the language, so I used a 6.1 english stock rom. just recently I had guts to update it to 6.5, and now I'm testing cooked roms, to see which fit my needs more. And they are awesome!

I think you're missinformed...
If you want custom ROM:as far as I know hspl and any of ROMs posted here(Touch2 ROM Development) are suitable to your T3320, try to read more about it...
apply hspl and ur good to flash any ROMS shared here in the mega forum.
am also a T3320 user.
