(Mirrored from my post on PPCGeeks)
Here are the steps I have successfully used many times to upgrade my xv6800 to the new radio and a custom ROM.
1) For good measure, perform a hard reset by holding down the 2 softkeys while pressing the reset button then press R
2) Just in case record your MSID, MDN, and if you can see it A Key from the PST. You can get there by dialing ##778 Send and using 000000 as your code (I've never been able to see my A Key)
3) Install Olipro 2.4 bootloader (during installation of the bootloader, after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from your phone, the RUU instructs you to make sure you have an ActiveSync connection. Ignore this, it is not necessary.)
*When complete be sure to disable USB in ActiveSync to get out of the bootloader (File -> Connection Settings -> Uncheck "Allow USB connections") Re-enable this before the next step
4) Install the new Sprint ROM
*DO NOT LET THE SPRINT CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN!!! When the flash is complete and you arrive at the Welcome screen it will ask you to tap the screen to proceed, DO NOT PROCEED ANY FURTHER. If using DCDs kitchen you can proceed to flash from here. I can't speak for others although I believe they will do the same.
5) Finally, install the custom ROM of your choice. I am successfully using DCDs 3.0.1 without any issues.
Things to note:
1) I never let the Sprint ROM boot up and run the customizations
2) I had the slow signal aquisition issue so ran *22802 then hit End as soon as it connected
3) I also re-entered the MSID and MDN
4) After performing steps 2-3 I no longer have the slow signal issue
5) No A key was necessary
6) I never had to run *228 to OTA program (in the past programming with *228 has reversed the effect of re-entering the MSID and MDN)
The theory is that the Stock Sprint updater copies your PST settings out before the install then restores them post-install. This is why I never needed to dial *228 or re-enter my A Key
GPS is running great
Not sure about Rev A, still need to tether and test
If you have suggestions on ways to improve this guide, please let me know.
Geckotek, thanks for the easy to follow walkthrough. I'm getting my 6800 via fedex tomorrow...and can't wait. Been cooking my 6700 for a few months, and it was time for an upgrade. I've been following the 90page thread about DCDs roms...and am looking forward to having working gps etc from the new radio from sprint and his rom.
Thanks again!

Would this work with a Qwest PPC 6800?
Was wondering if this would work with a Qwest PPC 6800 to switch over to Sprint? I never heard of Qwest before now since I purchased a cell phone that had a picture of a Sprint Mogul, but in the fine print listed that it was a Qwest PPC 6800 Mogul.
I'm really hoping you guys say its a possibility

Don't know if you have reolved this. It is possible to flash it so it would run on sprint's network. The problem is whether you can get sprint to activate it to work on their network.
Sprint will not. The only phones that Sprint will allow are the ones manufactured with the Sprint logo on them. They know the serial #s (ESN) of all of the HTC 6800s manufactured as Sprint Moguls and their servers are setup to deny access to all others. I know its frustrating, but you're S.O.L. like i was last December.
Thank you for the thread!
I will give this a try soon on my newly acquired Sprint Mogul / Titan!
Well it is my wife's really! I still have my wizard.
Thanks!

I know this is not supposed to be able to happen, but on two occasions today and since upgrading to new radio and DCD 3.0 my wifi has turned on and detected networks with the wifi switch set to off, not sure why this is happening and I can not duplicate it on demand, trying to turn on wifi with the switch of via comm manager still does not work. Trying to find some kind of pattern but it has only happened twice.
Perhaps with the new radio there is a way to turn it on and off via software, or perhaps my switch is malfuntioning.
I had a similar experience as well.
I noticed it when I soft reset (not all the time, but 1/10 maybe?) and when trying to activesync, it would sometimes turn on.
I wish there was a way to figure it out, this means that it should be possible turn on wifi via software doesn't it?
Now that you mention it one of the times it came on was right after a soft reset.
Yep, this is becoming a well known problem.....well, for me not a big problem, just a slight annoyance....in the new ROM/Radio. It must have something to do with the radio, because I never experienced this in any other ROM. I'm wondering if WLAN may be turning on when there are short lapses in carrier coverage, and when an app (like activesync....I sync my e-mail using outlook)is trying to be connected to data (the internet). I just turn it back off when it turns on by itself. It doesn't ever seem to turn OFF by itself when I'm actually using WLAN.
EDIT:
one thing that may support my theory is that when you do a soft reset, it takes a bit to connect to the carrier network, and this just happens to be one of the times that WLAN turns itself back on..
And yeah, the battery usage definately sucks....plus when WLAN is turned on, and you're not connected to an access point, you could have data throughput issues as it keeps trying to see if it can connect through WLAN and/or radio......
I need it fixed , I didn't catch it earlier and my battery lost 85% today wihtout me even using my phone. Normally I get 2 full days I haven't really used my phone today and was fully charged this morning now I am at 15%, very poor performance for my typical use.
I am running dcd's 3.0.1 on my XV6800 and noticed that the wifi will turn on with the switch in the off position. It has happened to me a half dozen times or so. It only does it while I am on a call. Any suggestions? Has a solution been found yet? Any help is appreciated!
Same here, but has only happened a of of times.

It only appears to happen while in a call for me as well...it happened with no additional software installed at that point so I'm certain it has something to do with the rom itself...I'm guessing the new radio but who knows for sure...
shame here
i know what it is guy its wifirouter setting changes it makes all phones with this app will have the same deal!

And I hvae never had the problem. (and I do run wmwifirouter)
i saw this when the kitchen first came out as well. i also saw that it wanted to connect to a roaming alot more than it should as well.
sprint will tell you to set you phone roaming settings to "sprint only" the phones and ROMs come with "automatic" enabled.
my sprint buddy told me long ago to change this from auto to sprint only. soft reset. let it conect to a good sprint connection. then switch back to "auto" and soft reset.
i haven't did this for a year or so, but when i started seeing the roaming icon after many of the soft resets i thought about it. since i did this i haven't seen the roaming nor the wifi bug.
i think it is the theory that when you softreset the phone set on auto looks for the first tower, which could be a roaming tower. this takes a little too long to conect. in this longer than normal connection time when something like activesync wants to connect and has no internet connection it will enable wifi to connect if it has to.
i have noticed in the past with other ROM's as well that if your phone is in flight mode and you soft reset. as soon as activesync tries to connect and cant it will turn on wifi.
try this. turn on flight mode. soft reset. open active sync and hit sync. you'll see.
so for the record... this is not a dcd bug, but rather a windows mobile bug. wm 5 and 6. the best fix is to set it to sprint only or do the trick i stated above.
Are any of you running the HTC Home Plugin with the weather patch?
Because I installed it on my XV6800 and on a soft reset the WiFi was acting wacky. As if it was looking for a signal.
All I did to correct this issue was to disable automatic roam / download of the weather.
Well what I noticed so far is this, mostly happens after a soft reset, but sometimes it does it at random. Only happens when I have DCD 3.0.1, I am not seeing it with any other custom rom and I think I have tried them all. I have not had any roaming icons or the like and with telus customizations on you have two options for network, there is standard and automatic.
The only reason I hold on to it being dcd 3.0.1 is that no other version 3.35rom I've installed has done it, the ones I have installed off the top of my head are the stock sprint rom, DCD 3.0, 3.0.1, no2chem 5053, and two others that I can't remember as well as my own stripped down version of the stock sprint rom.

Did you have this issue with your Stock ROM?
I only ran the stock 3.35 rom for about a day but I seem to recall it happened then as well. I didn't think it was necessarily DCD's rom but was an issue with the new radio. I'll try the steps cody recommended and see if that does the trick.

Nor have I.
I just switched to sprint only, and after a soft reset, the wifi did not turn on as usual.

No I did not, however I also did not have it on there very long. I flash often, and I am constantly tweaking, "My name is jjlwork have a flashing problem" lo
Interestingly enough I am able to reproduce by following cody's instructions with the flight mode -> soft reset -> activesync
Hey guys
As the topic says i am trying to upgrade my verizon xv6800 from radio 3.35.04 to the latest and greatest as well as the new dcd build. I was wonder what should i expect when i start doing this. Last time i had to call in to verizon support to get my phone working again.
Also i had to install my version of arcsoft mms in order to get it all working together, will i have to do the same thing this time? Also in order to install the the new radio i was told i need a non sdhc micro-sd card (which i do not have) is there any way to go around this? last time i went with the official sprint update, and stopped it from booting then loaded up dcd. will that work this time as well? btw, i am using vista 64-bit (as i was last time as well). i do however have access to a 32 bit vista computer as well, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Sorry if i nubed up a little bit, but the last time i did this i also went through very carefully with the community's supports. Thank you guys in advanced =)

1st - No, you will not have to call Verizon to get an A-key.
2nd - If you run the Verizon Carrier cab that is posted on the 1st page of this post this post , then run the attached MMS cab that DCD created, your MMS will work....
3rd - Radio - Just so you know, when you flash the Sprint 3.39 full ROM+Radio, your boot screens will change and say something like "TEST - Not for Resale" so your will have to live with it or go here to change those screens... Thx to GC14
Make sure to NOT run the customizations from Sprint.....
just to be sure the customizations happen after the part where you tap the screen to calibrate the touch screen?
YES.... At that screen, goto the Bootloader screen (Press POWER + CAMERA + RESET w/stylus), the tri-color screen should show up.
Thanks did it. But now it seems that my GPS doesnt even get a lock. Looking through, i am missing quickgps app which i had on my old dcd 3.0.1.
I installed the quick gps app and did all the steps neccary to make sure it works properly with the cracked app file. The i even went as far as to try that titan gps fix that requires me to use the QPST program. so far to no avail, i am unable to get a lock.
copied and pasted from the gps faq:
hey guys,
im a long time reader and this is me first post here on the forums.
im having an issue with the gps for the xv6800 on verizon. ive read through lots and lots of posts regarding verizon and their gps service, agps and the like. my problem is that i dont ever get a lock, and never see any satalites in the htc gps tool. it just sits there.
ive got
VZW XV6800
Rom: DCD 3.2.0
Radio: 3.42.30
i installed the radio using the sprint official rom, and then put dcd's over that. im using olipro 2.40 and after i put in dcd's rom, i ran the verizon carrier cab. also the arc mms thing but im sure that has nothing to do with anything other than mms.
my gps settings are
com4
4800 baud
and manage automatically.
location mode is set to on.
i dont have tomtom or another commercial program to test, so ive been trying google maps and windows live. google maps tells me my handset doesnt seem to be compatible with my location, and windows live just tells me gps signal lost.
ive let it sit for roughly an hour and some change, trying for a lock, although that is unpractical for everyday use, i just wanted it to lock.
i read on here that other verizon customers gets theirs to lock in minutes, and that would be great for me if i could get that. so im asking, is it just my handset? or have i not done a crucial step in the flashing, programming?
didnt call verizon when i switched phones to reactivate data or whatever, i didnt know what i was supposed to ask them to do, so i just switched phones thru vzw.com and it makes calls and uses the ## codes perfectly. ive dont the *228 ect .
am i just sol? i really would love to have gps back, my previous phone broke, and i used vznav and that was great.
thanks in advance.
try this, and see if it makes a difference:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix
thank you for the reply but i forgot to mention that i have already applied the gps fix fromt the tutorial. i read somwhere that is persists through flashes, so i have not tried to reapply it after upgrading to the latest dcd.
if it truly does not then i will try to reapply that again when i get off of work
gmaps always says not compatible with my location (it is a feature some phones support that doesn't use gps) - don't use my location, check 'use gps'.... once the gps has a lock my location will send you to that location though....
I used a dcd titan kitchen to upgrade my phone, i did the bootloader and radio rom. now it wont go to sleep nor will the gps connect to satelites. Ideas? I have a USCC HTC PPC 6800
I had no problems, but I used QPST to save and reload my phone's programming. Unless you did that you may have issues. I don't have enough experience in getting you back online since there is no stock rom that you can flash back to in order to start over......
Did you load the USCC carrier cab?
And can you shut the phone off by just quickly pressing the power button? Did you verify your power save functions were set to auto-turn off the phone?
BTC
i finally fix those issues I had just my gps isn't working ideaS?
Any ideas how to get GPS going? I've tried multiple roms, messing with QPST, following wiki, different cabs / reg settings, and I can't get anything.
There does seem to be some NMEA data flying around on COM4, but it is lines like $GPR,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, , no GPS data in it.
I have tried many different programs, never getting even one satellite in view.
Currently system is:
ROM: dcd 3.3.4
Radio 3.37.75
PRL version 51574
PRI version 1.35_002
I have been searching google, here, ppc forums, and HOFO for DAYS trying to get this to work.
(also I am wanting to get QNC internet working, that is a secondary goal though)
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Ok you are are with Verizon. And I bet you had MR1/2 before you went custom. The stock verizon rom blocks gps out with any custom rom afterwards. If you want a custom rom and gps then do the following roll back rom then go to custom again. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=21161 Then apply gps settings. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3555579&postcount=703
The phone is activated on Page Plus, a MVNO that utilizes Verizon network. I got it from someone who used it on verizon.
When I first got it, I updated to latest "official" ROM, which I believe was MR2. I downloaded it from HTC's website.
I have just now tried to update my PRI using RadioRefurbish.exe but it does not seem to be working...
I will look at those things you posted. I had come across something mentioning that.. wasn't sure if it was what I needed to do or not.
**** Verizon. Ugh. Evil. Pure Evil.
Edit: I tried some Valhalla Legends, GPS Fix, blah blah other CAB files when I had MR2, with same results.
Ok, I have relocked device, and now I am loading the stock firmware.
What do I do after that? I can follow those steps. but... it does not seem complete information there on that link.
Do I install some version of valhalla, then do those steps?
Won't all that be lost on a hard reboot / ROM flash to custom ROM though?
Flashing to stock get you a 1.35 pri. You then can unlock, flash radio, and the go to which ever custom rom you like. The only thing is that i dont know if agps will work for you since you arent on verizon. But you so know agps requires a data package for use. You will have standalone gps without installing anyhting on the custom rom. I use standalone with no problems.
already have that pri as per my original post.
I was trying to get to the 2.x pri before.... do I not want that?
I also tried to flash a higher radio when I was on custom rom but it would not work.
So what do I do now, and in precisely what order?
.... right! Well, that makes it easy.
I unlocked again with 2.40, now I am trying to flash the latest version radio found on DCD's file server.
I flashed latest radio... unit hard reset, then afterwards I still have Radio 1.30.60 on device information screen.
If you could tell me step by step what I need to do, I would appreciate it.
Currently :
ROM version 2.09.605.8
rom date 05 03 07
radio 1.30.60
PRI version 1.35_002
GPS is now somewhat working, I haven't gotten a lock yet. Also haven't gone outside yet, might have something to do with it.
Now to get aGPS working.
Except DCD sucks, and QPST doesn't work in half his ROMs. Sigh. I'll have to find a decent ROM to use so I can get aGPS and QNC internet working.
Thanks for your help drewcam888, it set me on the right path to getting where I am now.
DCd is awesome and qpst works on all this roms. You must have a carrier cab installed to allow use of ## codes.
I believe you are mistaken. Why can I not connect then? I have installed Verizon Carrier cab. Com4 is showing up as "NO PHONE". Before it showed my phone.
I took my sister to breakfast this morning. On the way there, no GPS lock. Sigh. Sats in view, but only using one or two.
I shut down phone, then rebooted.
After eating inside, I fired up VisualGPSCE again. After only a few brief moments, locks on 7 satellites. Then it went back and forth between 6 and 10 locks.
Awesome!
So, either ephemeris was finally downloaded, or aGPS is working. Unsure which.
I loaded google maps, turned on satellite view, and the satellite imagery overlay correctly showed me on the south end of the restaurant. Cool stuff. GM claimed 30 meters accuracy, but it had to be much better. I would estimate 1-5.
I am wondering if this gpsOne chip is sensitive enough to use for geocaching. That would be cool.
Dude it isnt always on com 4. I have had it on com 10 and many others. Click add a port and find the diagnostic port. Don't blame others for your lack of knowledge. Your computer assigns this port and it can change.
The gps should be accurate to 1-2 meters I would think. But only is clear view of sky where you can find the most satellites.
There are no diagnostic ports to add.
Lack of knowledge my ass.
Google will reveal many others with the same issue.
Now unable to authentic my phone on Verizon.. just tried to make a call. Weird since apparently data and SMS both work.
Well I have gotten qpst to work on 3.2.5, 3.2.6, 3.3.4, and 4.1.2. So yes you are having a problem. It isn't with the rom. Are you sure you are dialing ##3424 send to enter diagnostics mode
Can you elaborate on how you have done this?
I go to add a port in QPST, but there are no ports to add in the left column.
Yes I am sure I am entering diagnostics mode.
I open QPST configuration. Then select "add new port". Then find which port my phone is on. Also are you using XP? I am guess you have the modem drivers installed being that you have used qpst before.
Yes, and yes.
There are no additional ports to add listed.
hmm. Maybe a computer problem. Do you see the phone listed under com ports under device manager. If not your computer isnt seeing your phone for some reason.
Under comp mgmnt there is HTC USB modem (with a yellow ! reinstalling drivers now)
Then there is a HTC diagnostic interface on COM4.
I can confirm that aGPS is working, since when I turn on GPS with GPS toggle, I instantly get a network logon request.
My akey has been deleted, that's why it doesn't automatically connect with EVDO.
See dont blame others. Ask questions and get answers before you accuse.
