I bought a XDA from Germany and would like to upgrade with the new ROM from XDA-developpers.
But before all, Win98 ( mine is a french one ) does not want to recognize that german O2 . More that half a day I read throuhg a lot of forums but have seen not driver or questions about that problem. Has someone the solution ?
Thanks in advance,
Ph. Collinet
Silly question, but have you installed activesync to communicate with the xda, or not?
Win 98 does support USB and you donĀ“t need a special driver or the xda. You only need activesync . You can get a free copy of it directly from M$, or use the cd shipped with the xda...

After spending some time reading through the articles in this forum, I am a little bewildered. Its obviously not as simple as running a program is it??
I love and use my m1000 all day, every day and it is vital to my life.
Please please please would someone, anyone, supply step by step instructions on how to safely upgrade as I've already had to have my m1000 replaced as I tried to upgrade my rom to the MMS version as supplied by Orange.
To this day, I am unable to install the rom update to use MMS, I have asked for help from Orange and the modaco website .. and unfortunately, no luck but a pointer to this glorious forum from the modaco website.
Ta in advance ..
mrplatypus
orange comes with 2003 and the newer version is 2003SE
2000 pure is very old
read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18287
Apologies ...
Sorry, I meant to type .. WM2003 as opposed to WM2000 and WM2003SE to WM2000SE..
WM2003 to WM2003SE wiv MMS!
In another post on this site (with me in it) the files which reside in the extended rom after the upgrade were uploaded to this forum.
This has provided me with my mms and I am very much happier.
However, I am still after really really BASIC instruction and the files to upgrade the Operating System on the phone, from WM2003 to WM2003SE (or greater?)
Much appreciated.
mrPlatypus
the post i linked to is the easiest way i think
2003SE is not official or even originally in English it's an
Chinese rom hand translated by people in this forum so i dont think we
can expect an official easy operator install for it
also you know that flashing your orange pda would void the warranty ?
voided warranty ..
Ok, I was asking to find out how difficult it would be -- my current contract with Orange officially runs out in September where I'll be upgrading my phone/pda anyway ..
Thanks for the advice and the pointers on legality.

atm my xdaII o2 is dead, it is getting sent in for repair soon, and it was sent in before, they said my mobo was dead, because i tried to upgrade to 2005 (off the O2 website) (i think, not sure, done too much to remember)
they tell me the XDAII does not work with WM2005, so i will be either getting 2003 or 2003se instead. I dearly want to upgrade to wm2005 for more features, but dont want to risk my XDA dying again. should i try to upgrade again, or not? (first my GSM died then my operating system hung at O2 splash screen, eventually rendered my entire ppc useless)
are there any specific ROMS to look for and/ or any specific pitfalls to lookout for, or should i just do without updating and just deal with WM2003?
thankyou all in advance!
ps. if they just upgrade me to wm2003se is that close enough to wm2005 or, is there much difference?
thanks
the wm2005 ppl can get on himalaya is a leaked BETA version it's not the finished version
i doubt you found it on o2's site
since the last official himalaya version released in english is 2003 version 1.7X
many ppl run the beta 2005 and the manualy translated unofficial english 2003SE
buzzdev.net
for 2005 beta
hey, thanks for the reply, it straightened out a lot for me
now, does anyone know if 2005 is being released at all on XDA II?
or is there 2003SE available for official download?
thanks again
Imate have officialy state long agoe that no device which were not sold with 2005 will have it released later on
non of the others that i heard of stated anything other then some stating that no new rom updates would be made for older devices at all
the only official version of 2003SE there is in chinese
and have been altered by ppl on this site to be translated to english
thanks so much for the information, rudegar, you walking library you :

It is not permitted to change the ROM language. Try exchanging the device.

no reason to YELL. You asked a question and it was answered. Let me reiterate....there is no HP approved way to change the language of your pocket pc.

How can you do this? Is the FM Radio now working?
Was it perhaps a 6818?
I believe that "Thegreat" who flashed the 6828 ROM has a 6818 and not a 6815.
In HP site it is clearly written that the rom upgrade is for rw68X8 series and "Multimedia messenger"as well.
The rw6815 is "personal messenger".

Language Change iPAQ rw6815
The problem with the iPAQ rw6815 is that it is not possible to change the ROM. This seems to be in keeping with most devices that are supplied with a Microsoft Operating System. The EU has already fined Microsoft for its restrictive practices in Europe, and I guess it will soon be the turn of companies like HP.
However, if anyone has inadvertantly purchased an iPAQ in Europe, beleiving it was capable of operating in a language other than the native language of the country of purchase, i've got good news for you.
The pacakging of almost all iPAQ's in Europe is identical. It shows the product clearly displaying the English Language and the box tells you all about the features in at least three languages, including English. Also, the product manual will be in English and two of the other European Languages In my case, the languages were English, Spanish and Italian. There is even a large whilt sticker on the box showing the serial number and a notice (in English) that the product can be used in all of the EU and EFTA countries.
Under EU consumer protection laws, this is blatently misleading the consumer. No where on the packaging does it say that the product has a language restriction.
So, my advice is to take your iPAQ back to where you bought it and demand a full refund of the putchase price. If this is not possible, pack it off to HP in your country and demand they make a refund (any good lawyer will be able to follow through with a claim if necessary - he may even get you some damages.
I've done this and I got a pay-out very quickly. Once you've got your money back, go and by a product which is supported in a less dicriminatory manner.
I really don't want to risk bricking my brand new hurricane, and I would guess I'm not alone, so I wanted to start a general discussion thread for anyone who is happy with wm5.2 the way it is. Things like shortcut remapping, filesystem opening (for the depraved SDA II people, and other things that would be nice to see on a wm5 hurricane.
Where can i find a good (so no chinese) wm5 rom for my Hurricane?
I bought my Hurricane with wm2003SE installed, but that OS sucks
Now i have installed WM6 Graphite v2.0 on my Hurricane, but i would like to try a good WM5 version.
