Softbank mail/internet configuration for my new X01HT - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hello,
I just brought a unlocked Hermes X01HT on ebay. I'm living in Japan and currently have a Softbank contract. I was able to slap my sim card in my new X01HT and get do calls, no problem. My data connection didn't seem to work so I did a little research and found this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031&highlight=japan)
I applied that and I was browsing the net no problem. I downloaded MMS Lite to handle my S!mail functions. But it's still not 100%. Some webpages I can't seem to open, and MMS Lite sucks. It's not the way my S!mail was before, and I can't set anything up because the options in the program are unreadable. It looks like I need to install a language pack or something just to read the options in MMS Lite.
I know if I go to Softbank most of them will be clueless as to how to help me. I think it's something as simple server/gateway/DNS address and things like that, right? I'm presuming that ALL phones aren't Softbank configured tp your specific plan right out of the box.
Any ideas?

XDA IIi unlocked from O2 - need Orange settings

Hi
I recently purchased an O2 XDA IIi, which is unlocked from O2 and has been hard-reset to remove O2 features.
My SIM works as much that I can make/receive calls and send/receive text messages.
But, to access Internet, Email, MMS etc etc I need the settings for Orange (Ive tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7306 but no luck).
Does anyone have the correct settings please ?
Is there a programme I can download (the type that is pre-installed onto Orange phones) as this may be the quickest solution.
I have tried Orange support on 3 occassions now and whilst they state they dont support non-orange phones they have tried to help - but without success.
Does anyone know if the hard-reset actaully leaves various O2 settings on the phone, which still need sorting.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GOOD !!
Thank You !!!
Paul

Hi mate,
Are you on PAYG or Contract?
If your on contract try this :wink:
Daz aka Cadburys Man.
Hi
Im on contract.
The other potential problem is that its an orange sim, orange contract BUT an EQ Virgin tariff (if that makes a difference)
Paul
Mate i can't see that making any difference what so-ever, if it's Orange contract it's Orange contract as far as i'm concerened, unless of course someone can say differently.
Daz.
Hi Daz
Thanks for that - but no luck with it.
Just to check I did things correctly.....
Downloaded it to desktop and bluetoothed it to PDA.
Found it in My Docs and clicked it to load it.
Was that correct procedure ?
Unfortunately, when I try to connect with it I get........
"No modem at above number. To check your connection settings and change them if needed tap settings"
Name = Orange Internet
Modem = Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN = orangeinternet
User = [blank]
Password = [blank]
TCP/IP = User server assigned IP address
Servers = Use server assigned addresses
Are the the settings that were downloaded ?
Thanks
Paul
Hmmmm thats wierd cos mine works and the settings are same as mine :?
I copied mine using the cradle through activesync but don't think that matters at all as the settings are the same.
Anyone else have a solution or tryed this file sucessfully?
Sorry i couldn't be of more help
Daz.
as i wrote in this post in the other forum then if it's set on auto pick of the o2 network profile it is bound to fail
Rudegar
There is NO mention of O2 anywhere on connections.
I ONLY have Orange Internet set up as described above.
Now.......
someone suggested looking at the External Rom ??
Ive managed to unlock this and need to know where and what I am looking to change ?
..Unless anyone has a full ext rom download i can use to overwrite what i already have ?
MANY MANY thanks

GPRS and MMS

Hi,
This topic seems to have been covered a lot on many bulletin boards concerning Windows mobile 5 for smartphones and GPRS connections but so far - to my knowledge - no conclusion.
I have a 8500 as a second phone used for my Swedish card most of the time however, when I'm back in the Uk and going out I switch cards as I don't like taking my S100 out (too big).
I have (or did have until tonight) GPRS set-up correctly for Telenor in Sweden and both internet and MMS worked fine. I installed a CAB for Vodafone UK settings for GPRS and MMS tonight and could not get the two sets of settings to work in harmony. In the end I had to remove the UK settings in order for Windows to connect correctly on the Swedish network.
Does anyone know how to have two different setting defined and tell Windows 5 which setting to use? All I can see on the internet front is "Automatically detect settings" which seems to do nothing. Also I can't seem to tell which connection is taken, is there somewhere that indicates this?
MMS seems to be a similar problem but since the CAB that set-up my Swedish settings created another "network" of VodafoneMMS I seem to be able to communicate correctly.
Any help would be appreciated. It seems the settings are correct that I have (as numerous people are using them OK) but I cannot get the two to work corectly when both of them are installed.
Many thanks,
L.
I am afraid that if you use a .cab file to configure the settings it removes the previous settings which are already on the phone.
BUT! And this worked for me on an MDA PRO or MDA Vario. You can manually configure extra APNs and an extra MMS Server settings, and then just change which one is the default.
I am not sure it is possible on the QTEK, because since a couple of weeks ago I have both Sims on the same network...
Good luck

What ROM to use and how to customize 8525 for T-mobile USA

I have SuperCID unlocked cingular 8525 (HERM 100) with a standard shipped ROM. I am curious if somebody can advise on what is the most suitable ROM to use with 8525 to get all T-mobile USA features and settings for network and MMS?
If the ROM does not matter - is it possible to export all network and MMS settings from my other phone which is T-mobile Dash (HTC S610) to achieve that goal?
I know it's a matter of personal choice (which ROM to use)- but I was thinking if there are some proven ways to get it done right. Thanks.
The rom doesn't matter. I've used a number of them. I don't know about the export. But, here are easy to install cabs with all the t-mobile settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311446
In the beginning of that post by Lurch3559 (with cab settings), he is saying "Please ensure that you delete your old settings before installing the cab, It would also be a good idea to write them down."
Do you know where (under what tabs) on the phone should I delete those settings?
I have Tmobile and just have the WM6 Pro Build 17994.0.3.1 and OS 5.2.1437. I downloded the ROM for Cingular 3.57.502.1 and I am just modding and having fun for now. I have a couple iphone things, changed the splash screens, adding new cabs, and just messing around with it first.
After I mess around with my phone for a little I might look for a different ROM to try.
@juzzie: On the Hermes they are located Settings>Connections>Connections>My ISP
This might be the same for the Dash. If not, this Forum also has a section of threads for the Dash U could check.

new to this - THINK I've done the research and got it?

Hello, this is my first post her and my first experience in doing this.
I bought a 6800 off of eBay, It is the CDMA version w/ GPS, a Bell Mobility phone. I was under the impression that MTS (Manitoba Telecom Services) was still aligned with Bell, but it turns out that hasn't been the case in over 6 months, so now I may as well try and hack my phone. They don't use the same data lines anymore either.
I took it to MTS to get it activated. The calling and text messaging works just fine, but the data part does not work AT ALL. It gives me an error message "Can't connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again."
I've been doing some reading on the wiki and other posts here, and it's a lot to absorb for someone who is completely new to this. I THINK all I have to do at this point is unlock the phone, change the carrier to MTS, and enter the akey (which I could possibly get from MTS).
Does this sound about right? I realize I could put a custom ROM on and a new Radio ROM, but if I don't need them just yet I would rather see if this will work.

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
i feel a custom rom is the first thing to do to these phones.... sorry cant help with the other questions......
Can you call them and find out how their data connections work?
Like with me, for Sprint, I have to dial #777. You might just have to edit your connection settings
Can't speak directly to MTS, but on VZW, what I do is an esn change off the phone to my backup...flash the custom rom, then esn change back. This takes care of akey and provisioning.
