Wizard Forum Props - G4

Just picked up my third Wizard. First two were G3's - but this latest one is a G4.
Followed all the posts and instructions - now have a fully sim and cid (hardspl) unlocked unit - that has already been flashed with its first WM 6.1 rom. My brother will be very happy with his new (used) G4 Wizard.
The wizard forums - along with all the XDA forums in general are full of great folks who offer time and services for all to use.
My thanks to all the chefs, programmers - and whoever else posts fixes, unlocking options, etc.
My daughters Typhoon has never run better, the three Wizards are going strong - and the Hermes I just found will be a fine addition to the XDA family.
I think it's time for another donation to this great board / site.
Again - to all, my humble thanks.
Have a good one

Great thread!!

Sprint And Verizon cooked roms?

Hey guys, before I start I'd like to make it known I've searched high and low and couldn't seem to find a clear answer. so hopefully I can find some answer for not only myself, but a few other members here as well. I have a few friends with the sprint mogul and my girlfriend just got the verizon 8700. I'm always telling them about these cooked roms and that's mainly the reason they ran out and got smart phones. there's only one problem. I can't seem to find any cooked roms for the sprint and verizon phones. I've learned from the hermes forums...that even though its branded different...the roms should still work the same on either one. So i'm guessing its the exact same way. keeping that in mind, I should be able to flash any of the roms here...like the DC rom. Am I correct? will it work? If so, my next question is, phone settings. I'm a gsm dude, so i'm not really familiar with any procedures you guys have to go through for your phone settings an internet settings. Are they any cab files available for sprint and verizon that I can install and have the phone up and running? Thanks for any and all help in advance guys.
can anyone help? or atlease point me in the right direction?
mine is built for sprint and my kitchen will have a vzw package.

thank you much for the response.
Unfortunately, most of the XDA-devs forum deals with mainly GSM phones with users based all over the world (it at least appears to me that US posters is almost a minority on this site).
CDMA devices (Sprint, VZ, Alltel, etc) are huge in the US, but not as popular over seas. In fact, when the Sprint Mogul (6800/titan) was released, XDA originally did not want to make a section for it, claiming that the phone would not be popular enough to discuss amongst other forum members. I joined a group of people who petitioned the moderators to add a section, and clearly they eventually did. However, CDMA devices are discussed at length over at a similiar forum, www.ppcgeeks.com
Personally, I think XDA is a larger and more knowledgable community, so its really a shame that more of the developments aren't happening here. There are a few really good devs that have made the move here (such as DCD, his work is fantastic), and more and more people are finding that they prefer the moderation of XDA over PPCgeeks, but the fact still remains that more development happens over there. For example the "official" kitchens for the CDMA phones are released over there. You'll find many more ROM options (some good, some bad) as well as tutorials and details of the flashing process.
I personally try to be actively involved in both forums. Its the only way to stay on top of the state of the art.

thanks for the reply dcd and Dishe. i'll be hanging tight for that verizon rom. i did go over to ppcgeeks...i dont really like over there too much. for some reason alot of things look a little less serious. i wasn't able to find any roms either. but i did see some good info on the device itself.

Why do we have a single forum for two distinctly different devices?

Can anyone explain why the Nike and Neon are both covered under a single forum, with their distinct hardware and firmware differences, when the different models of the Touch (Elf etc) have their own forums? It's way to easy for a newer user to mistakenly download a Nike ROM and try to flash it to their Neon, not understanding that these are two completely different devices. The Neon 300 just recently went on sale in the US, and, over time, will likely end up having just as many users as the Nike. If we can't separate the forums now, can we at least commit to re-examining the idea in the near future?
Just a though...

ok learned that neon and my nike are totally diffrent..... :-D
this is the reason that i get an error after 1%i tried to flash a neon ROM.
niki and neon are very simulare ... you can use both roms on both device.

Yes, but after you change the cid and the radio, registry stuff too. I'd like to see two different forums also. I made the big mistake of loading Throttle Diamond on my neon haha. Couldn't understand why it didn't work lol. Im sure there will be two separate parts when the neon becomes more popular. Its a huge website.
I have been asking for that for a long time.
All i wanted was just a development thread for the Neon, a place where i could store my roms as i went along and have feedback.
Alot of talk goes on about group of developers and their roms, donations etc...
I never once asked for a donation, i did this for fun and to make my device as streamlined as possible. I wasn´t born with the ability to cook roms, i flashed my device hundreds of times, lost nights of sleep just so i could get the phone up and running just to be able to receive calls until getting back to it the next day, flooded my little 80gb laptop with rom after rom each one a step closer to a reasonable device.
I even started a poll on one of my Roms trying to get a thread for the Neon.
The end result...No thread just me giving up. Anyway that´s me just *****ing... I´ll make a contribution soon. A clean rom UC complaint.

Dude, that's why you quit cookin them? The diamond V2 was the best! I still use it with sbp 2.1. I will say, it was hard finding your roms. I thought I was S.O.L since I have a neon and most dual roms so far are niki.

Seth...I agree, I even said so in your last ROM posting thread. Your ROMs are the best out there, maybe the only out there for the NEON. Best Buy sells this phone, I'm willing to bet they'll move a few. We need our own dev thread. I flash the **** out of all my phones, but if it means we get a NEON community rolling, I'll learn to cook! I really like this phone. Compact yet fully functional, great reception, unique form factor, and for the NEON...Quad-band GSM/HSDPA with the ever-lovin 850 band. It's a nice break from my Kaiser. Thanks for the replies, I thought I'd get flamed for making the distinction between the Neon & Nike.....TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT PHONES!
What? What could this possibly have to do with the question????

Dude...what does an adult website have to do with the Nike vs.NEON question. That's a little creepy...Not sure I understand....

No roms, no radio's, no nothing?

What is the use of this forum if there is nothing developped?
Well when Olipro started a development thread it went off topic in post #2.
Why don't you release something, or are you just here to complain?
I'm not complaining. I just observe. And the fact is nothing is develloped for the s740 or is there...
There is a ROM in this forum. What else do you need? Hard-SPL.
This is the development subforum, and you asked what the point of it is. The answer to your question is: development.
Look at the thread Olipro started. Look at the irrelevant responses to his effort to start development for the device.
The point I am trying to make... magical custom software for your device is not going to fall from the sky. As an outsider to the Rose, it appears to me that you all have been given an opportunity to start something here, and nobody has taken it.
yeah exactly...seems like the rose is not popular here while to it seems like a kickass device(without the touchscreen ****)
I've seen some in public but the only ones who has these devices are businessmen...and they don't like to mod their device.
Gr. Bram
Yeap, I'm businessman as well... Anyway technically geeky enough to be not afraid of any modding.
If needed. And in fact I love Rose so much especially for fact, that it's fast, stabile, hasslefree, works with tens of applications perfectly, RAM isn't an issue...
Then what should be theoretically solved by custom ROM?
Honestly - I personally have no idea.
AVE...
You are thinking like user: if it ain't broke - don't fix it.
But there are some people, let's call them geeks, who believe that if it ain't broke - it doesn't have enough features yet.
I would myself mod my phone, but I don't have proper skills to do that. I tried to learn programming languages, I failed so badly that computers started to crash whenever I passed by them...
On the other hand Rose is a very good phone, not perfect but good enough.
BTW, what would be easier(or cooler): modding the ROM, or porting Google Android into Rose?
i'm no businessman.. And i'm using this phone I'm very well with my device, i love it
Hopefully there's coming soon a new ROM.. Because i like to play with thinks, just like my Wii with Chip..

Heck yes, I own the Xperia X1, but damn this phone looks sleek and nice!
a new cooked ROM will only appear if someone gives oli what he needs to create the SPL thingy-me-bop - hint
It is one gorgeous phone - nicely sized and slick, had about a week to play with it but that was back in november last year when I didnt even know what an SPL was! (sorry oli - I wasnt into cooked roms until I got my blackstone in december!)
I set one of these up for my bossman and ain't seen it since otherwise if it was mine oli would have had what he needed to make the HSPL......

Best rom for Practical phone use?

What do you guys think is the best ROM for using the touch pro as it is intended to be first and foremost: a phone.
I'm looking for a rom with no hangups when you want to make a phone call, check a text message or send an email. I find that sometimes my phone hangs (quite badly actually) when I try to use the actual phone bit of my fuze. (IE: Tonight I got pulled over for having an unregistered tag, left the reg at home, tried to call my aunt to bring it to me to avoid having my car impounded and low and behold my phone call screen decides to hang for a good 2 minutes... Lucky the cop felt bad for my seemingly ****ty device and I got off with a warning... :\ )
Also, I find it a pain in the arse sometimes to check, reply to my texts on the go. More often than not the screen hangs for a few seconds between the different screens. I find this so much of an annoyance that I've almost stopped texting all together.
I'm using the RRE 6.5 rom at the moment but this is literally draining the life out of me. any suggestions?
Sounds like you treat your phone as I do ... mission critical device.
RRE's series ROM are great ROMs; a lot of attention goes into ensuring they run as hassle free as possible. That said, Windows Mobile 6.5 is still relatively new and there are some kinks that still need to be worked out.
You may want to look at using a feature lite Mobile 6.1 ROM for the time being. A good indicator of stability is when you see the frequency of kitchen/ROM releases slow down.
HTH,
Thanks for the reply, I'm beginning to think that its a 6.5 issue, but even more so a windows mobile issue... Which is a shame because i've always been a fan of the pc-on-the-go experience of wm as opposed to some proprietary OS by some nameless company for a very specific phone that supports nothing.
Maybe i'm just ranting
It depends on what you want in your ROM.
RRE v3 WM6.5 has been running great for me. There's been a v4 and v5, but I'm sticking with v3 for now since it has run great for me.
WM6.5 isn't for everyone though.
If you don't need TF3D (or don't mind installing it via cab), then look in the March 1st Leaked ATT ROM thread and look for the Da_G stripped version. This is plain WM6.1 with NO HTC stuff. Its as bare as you can get, but fast as hell and very stable. You can find cabs for the HTC stuff if you decide to use it.
+ 1 for NRG minus manila. once you take the manila out, the battery life is excellent....granted, i'm on 2.0 now but was pretty good when i ran 3 as well (switched back for 6.1)....
it's now 5 PM and been off charger since 7:30 AM and with a few phone calls and email twice/multiple texts, i've still got 75% left!!
agree with other member, if you want reliable rom, stick with 6.1. 6.5 has a lot of hiccups. But to each its own. My phone has failed me when I need the most but hey how many times does that happen.
install the new touch pro 6.1 official rom 5.11.xx.xx.xx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
i made my rom with just that in mind, making the touch pro a good phone first, and a good ppc second. it runs on 6.1 so no hiccups and i tested it extensively.
arrupenthal makes some good stable roms too :}
Why are we having this discussion AGAIN?! Oh yeah, because someone with only 4 posts doesn't want to spend an hour reading but wants to get quick answers to questions that have no easy quick answers.

He did the right thing. He started a new thread instead of clogging other threads with these questions. No one has to enter this. I've been monitoring this because I'm curious to see what people plug here. It's hard to find practical roms unless you read all 150 pages in each good rom's thread because everyone claims: "fast", "great", "best", "stable"... when they really aren't there yet. It's just that some roms aren't fully troubleshot yet. Some people here want to get their money's worth out of a phone they paid a lot of money for and don't want to devote the better part of a day (at the very least) to find something they'll only find a deal killing bug one month later after spending hours putting programs back on their phone after flashing (even after UC).
Sorry for opinion almost unrelated, but I don't post without some kind of contribution of my own:
I currently have been running RRE v3 and its a great rom, but it has some camera bugs with the auto rotate and wm6.5 has messaging uglies. It is by far my favorite performing rom, but the camera bugs. My phone, to me, has to be a phone, gps, camera and music player. I plan to go back to RRE the latest with the 6.1 rom no manila and put on chome. I'll let you know how it works out.
I hope this thread can be a place in which people can come to take a look at great performing roms and dl packages of optimizing software with little time spent reading through bugs and potential bug fixes. This in mind, I'll be on again tonight after hopefully fully testing what I hope to be my rom for about 6 months only reporting great or bad or good (with Quick fixes only).
Thanks to all the chefs for their time.

I disagree, all the information he wanted was easily accessible. There's no excuse for not taking some initiative instead of opening up yet another "Hey guyz! What's the best ROM out there for my <insert device name here>" thread.

I agree…asking a question that is answered 100+ times already is not what this site is about. This site is about the developers and people like my self who are members because we like what he developers do should read more and post less.
Remember this:
I this site becomes about he non-developers it will be ruined!

With a win 6.1 and no manila, how looks your today screen? Do you have some kind of screenshot to show?
Thanks
(I'm using an energy 3 rom with win 6.5, and I like the titanium interface, I wonder what I'll use if I go back to 6.1)
I could say that I'm closing this thread out of spite (nobody plugs my ROM? )... but it's not the case. This type of thread is not permitted according to the rules of XDA-Developers.
Although it can seem like a daunting task, the best thing for the OP to do is read through a few ROM threads, the first few posts should suffice, for a list of features and a changelog. [Shameless Plug]. Lastly, check the date of the most recent release, and then jump to the posts from that date, going forward.

Rom Advice - request and thanks from noob

been on the forum for a few weeks since getting a raphael and never realised what fun i could have!!!! had htc devices for years from a vario through to artemis and nike, all on t-mobile uk and never knew all this could be done.
anyway - thanks to all you developers and chefs - tried loads of roms and still trying to learn.
the questions i have are as follows - and yes, I have searched for these answers and have further comments on this below
i love the interface from my mda touch plus / nike, where i swipe up and down to activate menu. i believe this is touchFLO (original)??
is there a simple ROM that incorporates this for my gsm raphael? I haven;t taken to touchflo 3d at all and likewise wm6.5 interface.
also, my gps keeps dropping out when using igo 8 - i get the impression this is common but can't find any info on a rom that is good for gps use which is probably the most important aspect of what rom i finally stick with.
finally, fom a noobs perspective, i've read many threads requesting advice on roms, simple, basic roms etc and these threads are closed and / or banned. Let me assure you, the amount of information on here and diversity of roms, it is extremely hard to try and assess what roms to try, what they will give etc especially if you're relatively new to the forum and don't know the style or history of a chef. many of these rom threads are so large, it would take months to read through and assess the different roms and the one you may be trying to find may be many pages down as it has received no recent comments.
is there a summary page that could be sticky'd or made? what i mean by this is a very simple summary page that a chef could update with a few simple words regarding th latest development of the rom.
eg.
<rom name> - <release date> - <style> - <state of development comments>
wm6.5 - released 20 may 09 - loaded, TF3D, applications bias - new release, some bugs to be ironed out
wm6.1 - released jun 08 - vanilla, simple rom, manilla - fully developed and stable, good for gps issues
from this summary, people woulld have an idea what rom may be suitable for them without extensive searching.
as the rom progressed, the state of development comment could be changed but everything else would essentially remain the same. unless I'm missing something, i think that this would stop a lot of questions and new threads requesting advice as it is really difficult to keep track of roms and development on here. anyone such as myself, unfamiliar with all the roms finds it very frustrating when threads are closed and comments are made from those with more knowledge of the forum that are far from constructive. it would be quicker for some just to suggest a rom rather than ***** on about the lack of knowledge the person requesting the information has.
Good point, well made, read my sig
On the GPS issue you need to go to the radio thread sticky (start on the last page and work backwards, that is after you have read the first post explaining what is what)
Maybe you could volunteer to put together a WIKI page that people could then update (I know as a Chef myself I am generally trying to keep track of bug reports and dont have much time to put anything else together).
My Rom (B4PJS AYCEv2 Fully Loaded)
wm6.5 - releases most days (when the missus doesnt moan at me) - TF3D2/Titanium, any apps I can get my hands on - generally in permanent beta but stable and fast(ish)

The reality is that flashing is so simple (after HardSPL is done) that the only thing that has to be conquered is the fear of flashing. If you flash from your SD card (which is the simplest and the safest) you could flash many ROMs everyday and decide for yourself what works best with your device, service provider / location and personal preferences in apps and usage. No one knows what is best for you except you. My very first post on this forum was a new thread asking the same question and the response was just as you described, but there was one piece of advice that made sense to me, ‘keep trying new ROMs until you find one you like’ (and then the thread was locked).
The list that hilaireg posted is a great place to start, or you could simply start at the top of the ROM Development page and pick the latest post or pick the one with the most hits etc… You can tell in a few minutes if you like it enough to work with it for a while. If you like it, follow the thread and share your findings with the other users of that ROM. It is fun and helps the chef to perfect his creation based on your discoveries. That is part of the fun we are having here @ XDA. Soon you will be answering questions that others are asking as your expertise grows…
BTW: It is best to have a dedicated 1gb SD card for flashing. I can speak from experience…
