Installed iPhone dialer, went to revert... - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Well i downloaded the iphone dialer, didnt like it cuz no smartdialer option an **** so i erased it, an it took my oem dialer skin with it, now its like all white with just numbers in spots where buttons once were... anyway to get regular dialer back..?? thanks

when it uninstalled, it took the images in the windows dir with it..just put another dialer skin in and that should solve your problem. The default doesnt look good anyways, or you can find a friend who has a windows mobile phone and copy the images from the windows dir

You need to figure out exactly which dialer you had to begin with. Once you figure that out I'm sure there is a OEM pack floating around that you can copy the images from and paste them into you /window directory.

CommManager Skinning

Hey fellas.
I am sure it's been discussed before and my searches to find something fruitful have been met with limited success:
I am looking for a way (if possible) to skin my comm manager. I have the 6 Button lateral one from Custel's V1.1 and not the 8 or 10 button manager.
Any idea's?
You should find one in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316107
I'm using the HTC Kaiser Comm Manager Fixed.
I see the comm managers but I am trying to find a way to skin my current one. Is there a way to editthe skin on my device? Where are the skins for the comm manager kept at on the device?
All of the graphics for the Comm manager exist in windows\
If you find those files and edit/replace them, you can change the whole way comm manager works.
Problem is, every button is its own image and each has 3+ states (on, off, disabled, or other options). On the 10 button comm manager, that means there are 80+ files to edit.
Thanks Dishe.
Looks like I have a lot of cutting & pasting...
Update:
For anyone looking, on my Alltel PPC6800 I found the files to edit in the \windows dir. The backgrounds are the P_BG & L_BG (portrait & landscape). The status icons are labeled as Status_Off & Status_On.

What someone should do (I'd do it if I had the time!) is create a photoshop .psd file with all of these graphics assembled as slices. Then we can change the background color, etc. and export them as individual files without having to manually edit each one.
In the mean time, the long way is the only way...

i just got done getting all the files on to my card... and now on my computer.. should i make a PSD or just zip it and then people can do w/e they would like?
i have all the PNG files in the windows dir.
I am trying to do what you are but I posted a thread about the access rights of the files for being able to replace them... are you not running into the same problem?
It wouldnt let me modify them at first but once I copied them to my computer, clicked on properties and removed the read-only, all was well. After amendment, they copied over the original on my device with no problems...
Oh wow I will give that a shot... thank you!
I am not sure how that would work though, seeing that the files on the device would still be read-only and shouldn't be allowed to copy over. When I changed the settings in TC it didn't save them either...
Nvm I figured it out! Thx

Honestly, I'm planning on replacing them on the ROM-level, and flashing a new custom rom with my new files.

dc13, getting the files are not a big deal... I have a decomposed ROM image on my computer with all the files that go inside it, so I didn't even need to look on the PPC. I just viewed all files by thumbnail, and grabbed the 80+ files that looked like they belong to the comm manager. BTW, not every .png is for the CM. Some of them can be HTC Home, or the Dialer, etc...
I would have put them up if people were actually having a hard time getting them. The problem is changing them in a uniform fashion!
For example, if you're familiar with photoshop, and you want to change the gradient background to be, say, red and black instead of grey and black, you'll need to create a full sized gradient background that starts from the bottom of the screen and goes to the top (just like the current background image which starts at the bottom as a darker color and ends as a lighter gray on the top), and then make sure somehow that every icon has the appropriate part of the background appearing behind it in the png. This is very time-consuming to do to 80 files.
However, if you had the time and knowledge of Photoshop and ImageReady slices, you could create ONE .psd file that contained all the .pngs arranged in their proper places. Then, change the background of this larger picture, and do whatever you need to do with the icons (which would have to be arranged as layers), then you click to save it, you can have it automatically split it into all the slices needed as individual .png files.
Once this is set up, skinning the comm manager will take a matter of minutes. The problem is that this is probably 2-4 hours worth of work to set up, and I personally don't have the time to dedicate to it right now, especially since its not a paying gig.
I put together a quick guide to creating a Today, Slide2Unlock, Startup, Dialer and Commanager theme. It's in the Hacking & Modifying section of the forum...

It's not that difficult to create a commanager skin, but it does take time to make it look good.
I currently have skinned my commager. I am using the commanager that poorlyduck uses in his theme package but mine has a new vista look.

Phone skin elusive

I have searched for ways to skin dialer, most are themes or dialer (big button etc). but no one has offered a way to put a picture in the background of the existing dialer for 3.0.1.
I have the grass picture as my today background and would like to use the same idea for the dialer. Any other dialer that I have found is seriously deficient in some feature (911, smart dial, buttons disappearing, barfing). All I want to do is drop the jpeg behind DCDs dialer.
Any help?
if im not mistaken, big button places ALL the images used to create the dialer in the windows directory. by editing these files you could change the way it looked so i suppose you could just photoshop your grass into that file system
You will have to work with Dialer_BkgdL.png, Dialer_BkgdP.png, Progress_BkgdL.png and Progress_BkgdP.png for the vogue and htc dialpads, but if you have just the plain wm6 dialpad its a matter of matching the attributes of dlrback_port.png and dlrbackland.png in your windows folder and then replacing them with what you want. It's a very simple dialer to skin and make custom buttons for. I've never custom skinned one of the HTC dialers so maybe someone else knows what you will have to do.
If you want to use the wm6 dialpad and don't have it installed you will need to cook a ROM. If you want to use DCD's just simply don't select a dialer when cooking your rom. This will load the default.

I think you have the information backwards, or at least that is what I have read. In DCD's 3.01 kitchen if you want the wm 6 dialer do not select either of the dialers in the kitchen. I believe the HTC Vogue Dialer (PhoneCanvas) is a version of Paul_Hammons Mogul_Big_Button_Dialer which is easily skinnable by just overwriting image files in the windows directory. This dialer also does not break any CDMA functionality, AFAIK
Information on skinning Pauls dialer is available at http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6800-xv6800/91652-sprint-native-big-button-dialer-theme-here.html
If I am wrong, I would like to be corrected as I have been fooling around with this for a while.

You are correct. I use that dialer and have made many themes. You can skin the dial pad, the background, the smartdial screen, status screen..... the only thing you can't really skin is the dial pad when it is being pressed. it just uses a solid color rather then an image.
But overall great dialer to work with, if you want to skin your own dialer.
Not true my friends... I have on my laptop a program and an OEM dialer that works great with it.... You can skin the dialer background and buttons ANY way you want.... even the keypress.... I am not by my laptop right now and can't remember the name, but gimme a couple hours....

So if I am correct.. Your allows you to skin the dial pad when pressed. ( So that the digit will still be displayed rather then just showing a solid color?)
Because I can skin the dial pad when pressed but it doesn't display the digit only a solid color that I want. ( This is for the Big Button Dialer -- Aka New Vouge)
If you are using the program to skin the orginal Vouge then yes you can, but that dialer messes some things up on the 6800 functions.

Hey bro. Here is the dialer skins that you might need. These are for the Big Button Dialer aka New Vogue.
Yes!!!
Dude you have just completed my phone. Grass background, Vista skin for MortPlayer, your dialer, and a custom S2U2 background of my daughter running
The cab is sweet, easy install and I can cook it into my rom next time. You are the MAN Carlos!!! A million thanks!
Did you find these or make them? Either way, thanks!

I made it with the help of the grass background you provided on your first post.
Sorry guys - Never got back to my laptop till now..... Here's the program and dialer I use....
I use Tiermanns Tdial Designer program from http://tiermann.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1:tdial-designer&catid=1esktop&Itemid=3
I works great with the Dialer I am uploading..... I made an OEM of the dialer. His program is real kool in that you can just drag and drop the files into the OEM dialer folder and replace them with yours OR it makes a CAB so you can just update the skin as needed..... SWEET program......
Sorry it took so long, and I'm glad Carlos helped ya out....
Now that our community knows how to skin dialers.. I say we post some of our unique work here.
Well not only to see what we all have but to share our work too.
I will upload mine later today. I dont got the files with me right now.
Here's my latest creation.... I had some Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders on there, but alas, the wife didn't like em.... go figure... lol
Thanks goes out to Tiermann - You da man.....
Edit: When you press the buttons on mine, the text and outlines turn red while the background of the buttons shades darker so you can see clearly what button your pressing....

Looks good.
One thing that I see is that in portrait view the call history and back buttons stay grey, as does the mute button in landscape.
Is there a way to make all the text one color?
When using the gloss functions there is no way to have white text?

When needed I just photoshop those files to match my dialer. I dont believe their is a way to change the color of those objects rather then just manipulating the image.
How does he manipulate the other number buttons? They are all png files, I don't see why those can't be included with the numbers, or even better, have their own color selection....
I'm not sure tiermann wants to go throug the hassle or if he has the time.... He's a busy man.....
Here is a couple of screen shots of my Reanimation Themed Dialer.
Also A vista big button dialer with different history and back buttons ( to show that you can change them by modifying them)
Is there a theme for this background because I applied it as a jpg and it was white and washed out, the dialer CAB looks Much better than the background Just using the JPG file. How did you make this your background thanks.

Is this a reply to my post? If so, those JPEG pictures are just "SCREENSHOTS" of how my Reanimation theme dialer looks.
I created the theme with a background and yes I installed it with the CAB installer.

Manila Dialer Black text workaround/fix

Unfortunately this is only a workaround but it is an effective and easy solution to an irritating problem ! the idea is to change the background out for a white one so the black text shows !! to that end I have included all the files you need to sort this out !
all you have to do is use the reg editor (task manager) included with ap 4.0 tap on the process's tab and kill a process called cprog.exe (this runs the phone service and has access rights to the files you want to modify). After that copy the included files into the windows folder, i did it whilst using active sync) through browse mobile device on my computer for simplicity after editing the pics.
I am also including the originals incase you want to go back !! of course this is now opening the door for any manor or wonderful custom backgrounds for the dialler screen, and infact a whole host of other HTC software including the mp3 trimmer, which also has it's "BG" pics in the windows folder.
anyone who is running 96dpi like me will have noticed that there is space at the bottom of the dialer pad that allows you to see the app running behind the phone, this is now easy to fix and requires these files to be modified in size to cover the currently vacant area, although idealy we need to work out a way to make the bars twice as large in 96DPI to make them finger friendly !
If get round to it I will make the adjustments for 96DPI but it is good as is for all resolutions
and here are the originals
i think the cab you have is bad. i remember i uploaded the addons with a manilla cab that was a bit messed up and i think the text there was messed up. a few min after i uploaded a fixed addons rar.. the text should be find in the new addons cab. i remember i used it to before and there was no text problems.

Ho hum, that took me ages to do and was quite clever by my standards. I only upgraded to AP4.0 yesterday, as I was waiting for a fix to downgrade the SPL on my last ameo before sending it for a warranty repair, in the end I could not wait any longer and just chanced sending in my old phone, which is good, as I now have a new phone
all this is relevant to what you said because I downloaded AP4.0 and the add-ons as soon as they came out, and have not really sifted through the thread because it is huge!
mental note to self RTFM, I could have spent my time productively going through the thread instead of inverting colours in paintbrush !

Dark Knight 15 Tab Theme Touch Pro Portrait

12-17 added resolution and coloring to files. Changed to better icons-Created a red landscape menu to match red tinted bats. You will also need the color files for the comm tab to be visible. thanks to Nisse
Disable touch flo Settings/today/items/uncheck touch flo
Use total commander to move all manila files into the Windows folder
enable touch flo.
Done
I am working on a Dark Knight Theme for my Touch Pro. Still developing it so open to suggestions. Some of the icons are just place holders until I decide what to do with them. If you like it watch for updates and suggest improvements. Landscape menu coming.

1. Disable touch flo to disable-go to Settings select today, select items/ and uncheck touch flo
2. Unzip the files on your desktop computer and Drag the unzipped folder of files you want to copy from your desktop to your active sync windows mobile device center
3 Open the program "total commander" (it is a free program) to move all manila files into the Windows folder. like this: Highlight all of the files with the Total Commander program and press the stylus down on the highlighted files until you see the drop down menu. select "copy/move"
4. Next slect Tree-and then double click on the "windows" folder
select copy or selct move
5. choose to overwrite the files if asked
6. restart touch flo.
Manila files do not have to be removed prior. The Manila files are amazing in function. If you delete them accidentally-they are burned into the rom so when the phone is restarted they will come back. Also if you have have the program Diamond tf3d configuration you can restore your computer to default.
i always use total commander to copy my originals. It is tedious, but I like to hang onto them.

I will post my edited files here. You can try to install them with total commander. Always disable touch flo first. and remember...if you don't like it just delete the files and restart the phone. The original files will automatically be replaced. That is the beauty of Manila!

orignal htc landscape theme?

when u flip up the keyboard on the sprint touch pro it is blue color, does anyone know how to change it or have the manila file to put it to the original htc black theme?
I wanted this myself. search and download the original touch pro theme and install. You should be able to extract the landscape by itself. Although, i only wanted to change the landscape and leave the rest of my custom theme until i seen how pretty the theme is. now i wont switch.
well i am trying to get my phone to look like the orignal touch pro was suppose to look before sprint changed everything. if i take it out can i just add the files in the /windows folder? and to be honest i have no idea what i need to look for lol.
Here ya go
FYI - This one has the landscape. It is the original with the black clock. There is also one with a white clock but i like this better. I had a link to this page that has every default theme: verizon, sprint, att, htc etc....
but im at work and couldnt find it.
******
The file is too big, i cant upload it. Ill come back today when i get home and find that link. I know i saved it to favorites at home. Id RDP in, but i had been messing with my firewall & router for IIS stuff and it isnt opening right now.
Ill get it later. Shame, i have it right here on my phone.
Okay, I googled the name of the file i have and it gave my this link
http://www.myunspace.com/?d=4E8B72FC1
Make sure to scan this file after download, i dont know if its the same place i got it (it may be, just dont remember). Im not trying to freak you out, im sure its fine, i just dont want to be the guy who trashed your phone.
