WinMob 6.1 For Athena? Any news? - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Tried to find this but it seems no one have yet. Any news?
Tks

There is a 6.1 ROM (seperate thread) I am using it right now. Pretty fast, but vanilla. But you can add things.

could you please pm it for me?

Where is the 6.1 ROM in the seperate thread?

Here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363542

You know, we have a "search" feature
Use it please before posting questions.
Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2083061&postcount=7

you know, the search feature is not very intuitive

Sorry, but i dont agree. I think when you search right, you can find here all you search. And, second you can use google

Im sorry but the search feature on this forum ( and most forums for that matter) is absolutly pants, it is made worse on this forum because of the nature of what happens here, for example you can't search for words with less than 4 characters but almost everything we use here has a 3 letter acronym, you try searching for "Hard SPL", the search feature will drop SPL because it is under 4 letters and search for hard or how about "sim manager" again sim is dropped, or "SPB weather" or how about anything specific to the manufacturer of the Phones that this site owes it's very existence too ..... HTC
The search function here is a pain in the ass

PS lord help you if you are looking for anything to do with the HTC ELF

whilst elf gives

thanks crazy cat.
I used to use the search functions as well (works good!) But sometime I prefer the forum thread to confirm if what I found is the best (and updated) option.
Thanks for the links..

very annoying problem

this is the stupidest problem ever. when i have my qwerty open and go to type a email the on screen qwerty comes on..... i know this device is smarter than that, why the hell didnt htc work out this crap!?
I found a workaround to your problem that you may or may not like. But first let me point out that you could easily find solutions to a lot of problems by searching first then asking questions if you don't find what you are looking for. Since the Raphael forum is new you should look outside of this forum for a lot of answers. A general search in all the XDA-Dev forums for "disable keyboard" turned up a lot of information on the very topic you are looking for. Doing this will save you time and keep you in the good graces of other forum members who tend to get annoyed by questions that can be easily solved by searching. Another suggestion is to include the type of problem you are having in the title of your thread. You are more likely to get hits on your topic if someone has a clue what the problem is. And lastly, try to keep your posts in the appropriat forum. This forum is for ROM development. This topic should be in the general Raphael forum. Now the solution:
I agree with you that this is an annoying problem that is not limited to HTC devices, but most if not all windows mobile devices. The workaround solution is to install a null keyboard. You can select this null-keyboard to be your SIP (primary on-screen keyboard, not sure what it stands for) and nothing will pop-up when the on-screen keyboard generally does. You can easily switch back and forth to an on-screen keyboard when you want. This one works good.

But he's right. Topics like this one have been discussed over and over again here at xda. If he had used the search function himself he would have discovered some "cool applications" by now. That's how we all acquire the software for our devices: By searching this forum and many other well known sources like the openmarket app store (once again easy to find using google).

good idea, bu might not work for those who haven't yet heard of this modern invention
Wow - old thread is old.
Hi! I'm a noob. Well, technically, I'm not; I just haven't been back here in many years since I first started poking at registries and editing the old wikis (now defunct, horribly broken, etc.), and finally needing to get work done and thus not wanting to play with my WM device very much and switched to Android not too long ago. But given this huge gap, I might as well be designated a noob now so I watched the introduction video (how awesome is that thing?). And one of the things it says is to use google, search, etc. Well, I've done all that (almost, still browsing this forum section and going through a different forum's software announcements, but I've seen more of Handango, pocketpcfreeware, freewarepocketpc and those lot than I'm willing to see again (thankfully, most of them have RSS feeds)), and narrowed down the list of several thousands of apps to... well, still quite a bit more than 100.
So another thing the video suggests is to find similar threads and read those. Here's the thing, though... those also tend to be old. I could find a thread that speaks highly of cLaunch even though people have moved on from that to SPB and then Androkkid or, etc. The best part is - it's almost impossible to untangle! It doesn't help that a lot of software announcements don't even mention what they're compatible with
( Nor that announcements also happen in the 'Windows Mobile Software Development' section. )
I still have to try the XDA Market (is it or is it not dead? The thread is stale. Did I mention the untangling issues already? oh yes, one paragraph back.), but it would definitely be nice if there were a place where those of you who still play with WM devices could discuss apps and come to some sort of consensus as to what 'the best apps' are. I do specifically mention that in plural because I know from my earlier days, and from reading a few threads last week, that people still ask "what is the best X app?" only to be met with "depends on your preferences" which is certainly true but there's always some apps that are going to be significantly better than others.
So here's my dilemma... do I hijack one of the existing threads (as I'm sort of doing now, but please don't see this post as my asking about apps - I'll do a proper post where I detail the apps I've got listed already, my preferences, etc.) or do I start a new thread?
And, of course, in the mean time... if there already is such a consensus-on-app-worthiness list that isn't 2 years old, where might I find it?
Again, not asking for input on apps - just some pointers on where to look, specifically, after having already 'google[d] it'. Then perhaps the next poor sod that comes along and has the same question has a better idea of where to go after his/her brain is filled with app references.
*resumes reading this forum section, then the 'Windows Mobile Software Development' section, and then that other forum*

Given the number of xda members, threads and posts, searching for any info here can be indeed painful, frustrating and often fruitless. I generally prefer google over xda search, but with search results limited to xda forums, so - assuming we search for e.g. "cool WM apps", the search string will look like this:
Code:
cool WM apps site:forum.xda-developers.com
I know it's not a big help, still, the OP question was sooooo general, I mean, for some the cool app will be SpaceTime for WM, while for others it might be Crayon Physics....
Went back here to update my post - hadn't expected a reply, thanks! ( yes, I did press the button, noob-introduction-video! )
Yeah, I did that - but that's a pretty hit-or-miss method at best.. there's a bunch of posts that say something looks like a cool app and that they'll download it and "have a think about it" (broken English ftw) - then they come back saying it doesn't work on their device (WM2003 for a WM6 app)
That's why I'm just going over all of the forum pages (got time to burn - that's why I'm poking at the old WM device to begin with.. it had been collecting dust)
Anyway, the update I was going to make was just to mention that 'XDA Market' does look pretty dead-ish (nothing recent in there, what's in there is a fraction of what's available, and it sure likes to crash a lot). It also looks almost exactly like what I'd need.. I'll have to remember that when I hit its thread here and encourage the devs to pick it up again.

not surprising, given that most of the hardcore HD2 users jumped ship to android, sooner or later WM will be as popular as Palm OS is now, anyway, if your're looking for an app to perform specific tasks, just ask, there is a chance someone might know something
Yeah - just a shame, really.. there's lots of WM devices floating around still that can still find use.
I know, possibly the best use of them is disassembly, re-use where possible (too bad the screens are always undocumented or there would be plenty of Arduino guys with interest in at least that component) and recycle the rest.
But I'm giving the poor thing one last while to shine before doing that (probably the next time I get a new phone, I'll give the store this one).
A functional 'XDA Market' would definitely have helped with that.
I wouldn't blame them if they did abandon it, though.. even Microsoft abandoned their own Windows Mobile market even while WP7 isn't available globally yet, and Windows 8-on-mobile is is sure to kill the WP7 store, too. They're good like that.
I'll open a new thread (I guess is the best option) when I'm ready for it - right now there's still plenty of hidden gems tucked away in these forums that I'll go to, first

[Q] XDA "Search" Dropdown Button....Gone/removed?

I am currently logged in to XDA and have tried all of the different forum view options but I still don't see the "search" button anymore? Where did it go? Tried on multiple broswers too. Does anyone know how long ago it was removed? How do we search the forums now? I checked the Advanced search button on the top and got "Search is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience." Not sure if that applys to all search functions.
just noticed it missing myself

Google is Great, but very rarely do you find a specific XDA ROM answer on the first few looks or searches.
XDA thread search is a must have, to anyone who follows large threads and cant be glued to watching the computer all day long. It beats reading a 100 pages of posts where people keep asking the same questions, over and over again, instead of easily searching the thread, only to find their answer was 3 posts back!! You have permission to use my torch!! Keep Flaming!!
You can still use Google, like this.
Example search site:xda-developers.com/threadNumber
Works?

New Idea for Guide

Thinking about a guide like say "links to common problems and tuts",
where there is links to every common problem of the forum in those threads. users can post more. so everything is there and its not very messy or long.
op's would get more views and thanks.
Kindly use the vote too.

I think the idea is a good one. A bunch of the recognized contributors are trying to do something along those lines, but based on a FAQ. The idea is for most devices to end up with a FAQ with short answers to the common questions/problems. Since the answers are short, they almost always link to a longer guide/tut/resource.
fma965 put one up for the Xperia Play today, it is here if you want to take a look.
Is there any way to share op title or at least have an option for more than person to edit a post? And watch over the thread etc etc.

I think your idea is not bad but I think I already made a FAQ thread for it You can always PM me or tell me all kinds of your idea to improve it. I'm trying to make it as much helpful as I can and if you put your effort too, i think that guide can be extended to a greater level
Best Regards,
AJ

At the moment no. I think that people have asked for this in General - About xda forum. I seem to remember that it was going to be looked into...but it could be a while.
I don't think you can ever have too many guides as what you may find in one you might not find in another, but as already said it's pretty much covered in the guides/sticky department, and most of the solutions to common problems should be found by following Rule Number 1 anyway.
No offence, but the search tool of xda isn't quite up to the mark.

Agreed, but it IS an alternative. And I might point out that the search function is not the best. Case in point, I received a thunderbolt a few weeks ago, and while I was able to find what I needed to root it quickly, there things I needed to know that were no where to be found. As an RC, I knew better than to "just ask", but after I could not find my answer (although I'm sure it was here somewhere) I had to pull a n00b and ask. Of course, I was treated like a n00b with the typical "read the OP, search first" responses. NOT HELPFUL.

Google works perfectly, which is why its so frustrating when People say they've searched but not found what they're looking for, because most of the time typing a thread title or their question into Google finds it straight away, or is in one of the stickys they clearly haven't read.

Searching for the word "root" (without quotes) in this topic yields all threads with the word root in them. Despite that if you glance at the titles you will find on page 1 a thread that asks the question (and has an answer). Page 2 shows 3 results.. Pages beyond 3 show other results.
So the search works but only as far as when people actually look (and take the time to read) for answers. Search results are also more effective when people use proper thread titles. I will admit the latter makes searches a lil more cumbersome because some people need to learn how (or have simply failed) to properly name the threads they make.
To help with the search results here's the ones I found on page 1 and page 2:

Wow, so nice to see no one gets satire that they go out of their way to prove themselves.
Look, I know there isn't root, I was just pointing out that threads like these are a dime a dozen. Facepalm
I'm just saying that on top of a search function there are about 10 threads about root for our phones; not being able to, question of whether or not it's possible, and a kind of waiting/official thread about root for our phones. It's not satire I was just telling him to read through the forum to search for the answer to his question instead of making yet another "is there root" thread. People just want a quick answer instead of reading. I don't see what him posting proof has to do with it, just seems like an extension of the banter. I'm not dogging on him or you, so don't take it to heart.
Also you can search by thread title if you select advanced under search options.

This is the exact reason I didn't want to purchase this device. All I want is V4A.
Oh well, this device is amazing!
Well as of right this second there is not.. but to all who say there will never be for the U.S. model, i emphatically direct you to the Galaxy Note 9 threads where there is a serious developer Elliwigy has successfully rooted the U.S Note 9 using the exact same qualcomm chipset. And he states that his method has been tested by several developers on other samsung devices ... so to answer your question Yes root is possible.. but currently not stable nor is there a fool proof path to success. But Elliwigy has broken the ground necessary for a possible future root.
Link to an article on this:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-9-proof-of-concept-root/amp/
Link to thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...s-recoveries--other-development/root-t3927413
Interesting to see a method to install root was found with the factory binary (not the same as what we are using right now). It may lead into a root method if someone can find a way to make the proof of concept possible on the binaries we are normally using..
Worth keeping tabs on, I got the link bookmarked to keep watch on it. Who knows someone might find a way to crack this golden egg
