Still at dcd 3.0.1 here, and the one thing I've noticed since going to 3.x is that I no longer get "auto-check" when entering recipient names in SMS and email messages. Used to be I could just start typing a name and it would show me suggested selections... now I have to use Menu -> Check Names to do a lookup on a partially-typed name.
Is this an intentional change in behaviour with this ROM, or is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? I can find no option for it in Messaging options, or poking through Advanced Config...
TIA

Hi everyone,
I am looking for how to switch on the SMS Delivery Report in SMS settings, but having no luck ... it seems that Moto removed that option. I know that AT&T does not support those (was in the US in Jan, made that experience), but for me personally, that would be an option I have always had enabled. I just like to know when somebody does not receive my message.
Is there any way to enable this via shell commands or similar? I looked in /data/data/ , but under com.android.mms (which shouldn't be the right folder in the first place), there is nothing. Also com.motorola.blur.messaging has no files. I don't mind editing manually, but no idea where the settings resides.
Mods, feel free to move this to Dev or Q&A section if appropriate...
.... you mean as if you were to send a message, but maybe put in the wrong phone number as the person to recieve the text? I'm not sure what you mean by it having been removed. Shortly after i got my Atrix, i sent a text to a friend of mine, but accidentally sent it to what was his home number, and got a message back saying it was an invalid number. And there's also the little green arrow when you send a text that disappears after it's been sent.
Not exactly sure what you're getting at.

err... no. Delivery Reports tell the sender whether the message has been received by the recipient (ideally). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_...ation_(GSM)#MT_short_message_service_transfer . Unfortunately, it seems like AT&T do not implement this part of the SMS protocol. You can normally view delivery reports by long-pressing on a message.
This can normally be set via messaging options in android phones, but it seems this option is not available in the Atrix. Maybe Moto has simply hidden the option, maybe it is not implemented in Moto's messaging stack. I do not know, but would like to see whether somebody here can answer this question for me.
yeah... I'm looking for that option too... and install from unknown sources... and hotspot... Think I gotta root...
did you went this option ?
find: data/data/ com.motorola.android.providers.settings/database/settings.db
use RE open the db file. open settings
you will find a option like that :
118 sms_mms_delivery_report_enable default value is 0, change it to 1.
I think that's what you want.
If it can help you ,just give me a thanks.
firstly you need to root your phone, than you should navigate to /system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.android.providers.settings and edit the settings.mkitso with vi and change this sms_mms_delivery_report_enable=0 from 0 to 1 save it and reboot the phone. after that install an sms app like GoSMS from the market and set delivery reports on there and it will work (the stock atrix sms app doesnt allow for delivery reports, at least i didnt find it where to change that), the other option is to just install gingerblur which has this and a lot of other cool options installed and the bloatware removed.

Actually it does. It's in the settings for the stock sms, clearly marked, "Delivery Reports." Just checkmark it.
Thanks guys. I just ended up installing GoSMS Pro from the market. A lot better anyways, and has its own delivery report option.
Go sms has it's own delivery report option but even though it doesn't work.
I think I'll try gingerblur...

I have a huge and annoying messaging problem on stock. Here's my problem. I text somone and the conversation is formed. When they text me back their message pops up on top of mine and says I've received it at a completely different time! When I text back, the message appears directly below my other message I sent... and so on.. So the messages get all jumbled up! This is REALLYannoying.. HELP?
ANYONE????!!!!
Which ROM are you using and which messaging app?
I'm using stock ROM (2.1 Update 1 with sense).. with the default messaging app.

You know my problem? or not?
Ok. One thing to try. Go to 'manage applications ' then delete data from messages app. This shouldn't delete your messages but you may want to back them up first. Then restart your phone. That is all I can suggest, unless you have thousands of messages, in which case I' d suggest to delete quite a few. Other than that I don't know unless its a carrier problem.
Just thought of one more obvious answer. Go to date and time settings and see if 'network provided values' is checked

Tried it, I'm texting someone now and once I get the response back I should be able to tell if ticking this option changed anything

Aw man. It didn't work Too bad. Thanks for the help anyway. I'll continue my searches.
The time stamps for the incoming text messages seem to arrive at completely different times (FYI)
Anyways if you could offer any further help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I solved it.. I installed SMS Time Fix by Matthew Precious (from the android market) and it fixed my problem.. Thanks for all the help though
I'm on the stock 407 with my dell streak. Basically when on the stock messaging app, when a text message exceeds 160 characters it is converted to MMS. I have been using third party apps but I really prefer the default. My streak is rooted, and I was wondering if anyone knew a way to stop my text messages being converted to mms?
search in the setting that called as SMS Split or something similar...
sms split will auto split any message above 160 character... and therefore avoiding sms to mms conversion..

As I stated above, that setting does not appear and if you actually read the post you'd know I'm using the default messaging app.
I was referring to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423340 that someone suggested.
It tells you to change some system files, I've tried ES file explorer but it only lets me access my SD card.
ok... sorry for the trouble...

SMS issue
I have a Streakk 5 running Stock 360, rooted with a few tweaks and I have no problems sending long txt's or pics. I have tried multiple Gingerbread rom's and I have foung the split SMS option in some, but all of them require me to have my data on to send or recieve pics. I have a limited data package and was hoping someone knows of how to change settings or of an app that will allow me to send and recieve pics without data on.

Is this something in gingerbread, because I can do it fine in froyo?
When rejecting a call you get a choice of preset texts to send, is there a way to change these like I could on my S3?

Did you ever figure out how to do this? This is something I'd like to be able to change as well. I know I can send a "one-off" text by using the blank line option that comes up in the list of presets. But I'd like to be able to have a preset that says something like "I'm driving, will call back later". If you figure out how to do this, please let me know! Thanks!

Yeah, it's bizarre. Even my old Razr could edit the predefined messages. And I'm pretty sure that my old WinMo 6 phone had the ability too. I've been using custom preset text messages since I can remember. Well, hopefully HTC will add it in an upcoming update. Until then, I'm going to look into a custom clipboard app so I can at least easily paste in a preset message in the custom response field when that reply by text prompt comes up.
This was really bothering me because it has to be there... And I finally found it! Open an existing thread in the sms app, tap in the text field like you're going to reply, and then open the menu and select quick text. From there you can add, edit or, delete. Seems silly that it is no longer an option in the dialer.

Awesome!!! Wonder why it's so hard to get to. Thanks!!

Great! :good: Thank you very much! I knew it had to be in there somewhere!
tl;dr of my problem: sending and receiving picture messages (MMS) didn't work.
Full details below the line.
Solution: Gave up on messing with APN files and settings.
Installed an alternate MMS program. It's called 8sms.
http://8s.ms/
If you're like me, you might feel annoyed at having to do this 'workaround'.
Don't be! It's a good solution. The app is excellent,
it's lightweight and it's based on the stock app.
In fact, 8sms IS the app that comes with Cyanogenmod.
But for some reason the version build into Cyanogenmod 10.2 fails,
and the version I downloaded from the 8sms website does not.
It allows you to enter those critical mms server settings right within the app's
setting page, rather than screw with apn xml files.
But the correct Sprint settings were already filled in, and my MMS messages
all went through fine, and quickly.
So if you're having this issue and especially if you're using
Cyanogenmod, just update to this app. It's free and excellent.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#[email protected]% I had this problem on my old touch pro too.
I can't send pic messages. And probably can't receive either. Stuck on "Sending".
I'm on Cyanogenmod 10.2 stable.
The two most likely fixes I see are:
1. Edit apn-conf.xml to make sure it has correct Sprint mms servers.
Did this a bunch of times, verifying the changes and rebooting each time.
Can someone with working MMS as of May 2014 just post their apn-conf.xml file here?
2. Delete /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony.db, then reboot and let the system recreate it.
Neither has worked, but I sort of suspect I never got perfect, correct settings in step 1.
I've tried so many different ones though -
http://buzzmobile.us/sprint-apn-settings-android-us/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30536253&postcount=2
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...gingerbread/prebuilt/common/etc/apns-conf.xml
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...w-to-fix-alltel-and-maybe-usccother-carriers/
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UWPiadkX0lMZSX4b0AMMDkwVQfq3_nTMzwQhdZm9_yE/edit
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint/240842-fix-sprint-mms-issues.html
Here's what drives me nuts.
So many little things about apn-conf.xml are unclear.
- The menu option to edit APNs in Cyanogenmod is simply gone, in this version. Why?
You must access it though by voice dialer and saying "Open APNs"
- Further confusing things, when I created APNs using this menu, one of them has a radio button
(basically a checkbox) next to it. This is the one for sending MMS over wifi.
I can tick or, or leave it empty. Doesn't seem to matter. What's this button for?
- The last link above shows some settings as <not set>, other settings as "none", and other settings as "*"
Do these all mean leave that setting blank?
...one guy says yes, another says no... put in actual asterisks. Do I actually put the word 'none' for a username?
- When editing the XML directly, one guy says avoid doing just doing a pair of quotes for blank values, e.g. port=""
...apparently the two quote marks with nothing between annoys some servers.
So what should go in there? An asterisk? like port="*"?
Can I just delete that section of the code if it's not needed?
- At the top of the apn-conf.xml file is a line that says:
This version must agree with that in apps/common/res/apns.xml
What's that mean? The files must match? Is that apns file what I should actually be editing?
I don't have an "apps" folder, just an "app" folder under data.
I've seen suggestions to flash stock rom, doing sprint's prioprietary ## code, or updating PRL and profile.
I'm hoping to avoid that. I see no reason why this can't be fixed without that.
It's just not communicating with the mms server, right?
If anyone somehow missed the edit, this was solved by upgrading to 8sms.
It's the same messaging app that is built into Cyanogenmod, but the version
you download from the 8sms website actually works and lets you easily change those mms settings too.
http://8s.ms/
