HTC Home + DCD 3.0.4 = Bad Backlight ??? Help Please - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

For the longest while using DCD the backlight setting app hasn't worked. I've since determined the cause to be the HTC Home today plugin. I'm using the JVUS (i think) one which doesn't have the memory leak if that helps. I'm guessing it's caused by HTC Home's backlight changer which I like.
Some things to note:
1: I can still change backlight with the registry. (Note can I create a shortcut to a reg key in Total Commander.)
2: It didn't appear to happen using the stock Vz rom.
3: I backed up Backlight.exe and Backlight.4xxx.mui from \Windows and later replaced them which failed.
Also specifically it the slider on the main backlight screen which does not work. I see a dash at each end and cannot move t from one end to the other. This is for both power and battery.
Is there a screenshot app I can use to post a pic?

[SIZE=+1][highlight]Vibration Feedback for Windows Mobile 5+ (DISCONTINUED)[/highlight][/SIZE]
Original Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412491
Different approach by writing an own touch.dll: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450256
This Software lets the phone vibrate when the touchscreen is touched. This feature is knwon from the Samsung Omnia Phone for example. It gives a better response and feeling for a finger tip on the screen.
It consists of two parts. The first one is VOA aka vibrate.exe (which is already mentioned in different threads) by Const and a configuration part VOAConfig by Kisja.
[SIZE="+1"][highlight]Help needed![/highlight][/SIZE]
VOA is not developed anymore and the sources are not availible. To optimize the reaction and some other things (see TODO later) we need to rewrite VOA. Since I have not enough time for it, we need someone who has experience in development. I could help with some ideas, since I know how VOA works. Send mit a PN or simply reply on this thread!
Current version with VOA 01.10.2008 and VOAConfig v1.5: Vibration_Feedback_1.5_01.10.2008_volume fix.cab
[SIZE=+1][highlight]VOA by Const[/highlight][/SIZE]
It's a little application which runs in background and reacts on user activities with vibration.
[highlight]Features:[/highlight]
- Vibrate always on touch events (mouse down, or mouse up)
- Vibrate only if SIP is active
- Vibrate on Key press (hardware keys)
- Adjustable vibration (duration in ms)
- configuration over command line parameters
- fully event based, so only battery consumption while vibrating
- No runtimes needed (pure C++ application)
- Works with WM 5+ (not 2003)
[highlight]Command Line Parameters:[/highlight]
-nled: Which nled to use (1 on Diamond)
-len: vibration duration in milliseconds
-ondown: 0 - on mouse up, 1 - on mouse down
-onsip: 0 - handle every touch event, 1 - vibrate only if SIP (or phone) is active
-keyon: 1 - Vibrate on Key press (is not affected by onsip!)
[highlight]Changes:[/highlight]
Code:

- improved vibration length/strength
- With short values (10-30) is the vibration like in Teeter
- Phone Dialpad support if onsip 1 is set
[URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=117758"]08.09.2008[/URL]
- support for HTC Diamond
[highlight]Known Issues/TODO:[/highlight]
- lags while fast typing (vibration doesn't stop or no input possible while vibrating, seems to be ROM or Phone dependent)
- Volume keys are blocked on HTC Diamond if onkey is set to 1. Don't use key vibration or enable the default windows volume bubble to have workung response and volume keys (Use Diamond Tweak for example).
- vibrates during an active call, if dialpad vibration is enabled

Without Dialpad support: VOA_10.09.2008.zip
[SIZE=+1][highlight]VOAConfig by Kisja[/highlight][/SIZE]
This application makes the configuration of VOA more simple.

- Choose activity mode (always/SIP only) (-onsip 0/1)
- Enable Vibration on Keys (-onkey 0/1)
- Enable VOA on startup (autostart)
- Choose vibration duration/strength (-len x)
- Start/Stop VOA
- Saves settings in registry

1) Adjust settings as desired
2) Tap on "Save" to save settings to registry and create new startup link
3) Tap on "Start/Stop" twice to restart VOA or reset device
[highlight]Known Issues/TODO:[/highlight]
- Restart VOA automatically after saving configuration
[highlight]Changes:[/highlight]
Code:
16.09.2008 v.1.5
- vibration strength costumization optimized.
Select between "low", "middle", "high" and adjust more prcise with the slider
- "Advanced Options" in "Options" menu:
- select NLED Interface (-nled option in VOA)
- select Event to react on (-ondown option in VOA)
- VOA is started using CreateProcess Call from coredll.dll (see "help needed" please!)
10.09.2008 v.1.4
- Startup folder not hardcoded anymore,
instead a localized path is used (Environment.GetFolderPath)
[highlight]Download:[/highlight]
The CAB file includes both applications in a single install file.
The version number reflects the version of VOAConfig and the Date stands for the release Date of VOA.
V 1.5 with current VOA in a cab: Vibration_Feedback_1.5_01.10.2008_volume fix.cab
Source (VS 2008 VB .NET Solution): VOAConfig_1.5_Source.zip
[SIZE=+1][highlight]What it does not do[/highlight][/SIZE]
and what will possibly never be implemented:
- hook in other applications. VOA uses a systemwide activity timer to recognize events and does not communicate directly with other applications. This causes sometimes a little lag between the touch event and the vibration. Hooking into other applications would speed it up, but most applications do not have public events to react on.
- reduce touch screen area (for which vibration is activated) to windows borders or something else (think of SIP). VOA reacts on touch events on the whole touch screen.
thank you very much.. this is a really great application!
is it possible to make a "dailpad vibration only" option?
thanks for the program!!!! it works great....
unfortunately i found 2 probles that are not important for me but maybe other people finds annoying:
1.- volume up/down key does not work when VOA.exe is active.When you press vol up or vol down the volume level bar appears, but you cant change volume with keys.
2.-voaconfig crashes when i try to "enable startup". i think this is caused because of folder names (i'm using a spanish rom, so my startup folder is "windows/inicio" and not "windows/startup").
thanks again for your work
app really slows down sms typing... is this something i can fix?
unfortunatly the vibration feedback is a serious battery eater...
but is also a cool idea.

Oh jes, I forgot! Sure its always different. Does anyone know how to detect this automatically? A Reg Value with the path perhaps?

Got the same problems as you , for number 2, I am using English stock rom which used the path "windows/startup", yet voaconfig crashed when i start it.

I also noticed this... Hopefully this can be optimized, cause this app would be perfect
Even if duration is set to 1ms the length of the vibratation is far to long to be useful on my Polaris (HTC Touch Cruise). I've previously tried google Android which has the same functionality built-in. And it gives a small buzz on each key-press which was very good.
This application vibrates too long, and also it does not accept more keypresses when vibrating slowing down the whole input method.
add vibration when PhonePad on foreground and onsip=1
cool concept, I actually like it on my friend's Instinct.....but the battery thing and the accelerated wear on the vibration motor deters me (my titan battery is bad enough as it is already).

oh no, its a cool feature/app (especially on phones without a hard keyboard)
if I had something like a Diamond, I would defintely use this app.
Im using a german samsung i900 omnia, but your app doesnt work here. No vibration whatever setting i use.
Good Work, but seems that doesn't recognize diamond keyboard installed on my wm 6.1 artemis. If i set to vibrate only on SIP it never do, otherwise works great (at any click).
thank You
Bye
The main difference with the samsung version is that on the I900 the phone vibrates only when you press a button on your screen (or at least it is supposed to act like this), which really makes a difference between pressing "nothing" and pressing a button.
I would I love to see this feature, even on my I900, because samsung forgot many things (like the opera browser, in which the phone vibrates whatever the part of the application you're touching, or their SIP, where it does not vibrate even though it is THE software where it should).

For every key I press on the keyboard the vibrator starts for a short period. During this period I cannot enter another key. Or atleast the key is not displayed until the vibration has stopped. So where I could write very fluid and quick before, I now feel it's going much slower and more like a stutter, if you know what I mean.

Pimp Your Trek (Vista Touched)

Here is a few snap shots of my Trek. Ill include any cabs i used and i have a few useful registry tweaks also.
I Have the 3125 from Cingular. I have more program memory than the other variants of this phone. Any tweaks or programs I mention worked fine on my phone but you may enounter low memory issues due to the size of some of the installs.
Pimp Your Startrek based on WM6.1 Professional v2
This is a tutorial on how I tweaked my Star Trek to near perfection.
System Volume Tweak
This gives your phone an overall additional boost on sytem volume. It works great sometimes you might have to reduce you volume a down 1 bar because it does get loud. Clipping and distortion may occur. I was satisfied. I didnt notice much distortion but think it also depends on how your music is mastered and what format.
Navigate through your registry and change the following keys.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN\EAC_GAIN_EMBEDDED set value to 72
HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioGain\CODEC_GAIN_EMBEDDED set value to 00
The Comm Manager is a variant of the one use on the Kaiser (Tytn II or Tilt). The gradiance on some of the buttons because the 3G button and WIFI Button had to be omitted and it threw the natural order of the buttons off so thats why the shading is off but it works great. If anyone can post a fix for it please do. I had to use an additional program called (CM Settings) to remove the extra buttons. Ill include the cab in a later post. It can be removed once the change is made.
Cabs
Attached to this thread are the cabs i used to accomplish what is in the above post.
Theme Install
Unzip and drop the Vista theme in your Windows directory on you phone. Navigate to Start\Settings\Today and change your theme to Vista Black WM6
Audio Manager Install
Drop the Audio Manager Cab on your phone or storage card and install as usual. I installed on phone. (Works with no known Issues)
Touch Dialer Skin
Drop the Wizard ReTouched Dialer Cab on your phone or storage ard and install as usual. I installed to phone. Soft reset and you should have a new dialer.
Touch Calculator Skin
Drop cab on phone or storager card as usual. Install to phone. Open Calculator and it should be skinned like the Touch Calculator.
WMP Touch Skin
Unzip files to a folder in your desktop. Open that folder and select all and copy. Navigate through active sync to the path of \Program Files\Windows Media Player on your phone and paste the files there. Then open up Windows Media Player on your phone it should open to your library hit the back button it will take you to the player. Go to menu and select options navigate to the skins tab and you should be able to switch to your new theme by selecting the arrow button.
HTC Home
Do the usual drill in copying it to your phone. Install program to the phone. This installs the 6 button Home plugin. This is the older 1.5 plugin in so the weather tab is not functional until you modify the dll to update from the new server. Only bug that i found is that the brightness toggle and screen rotation locked up the phone. But i used the HHC program to customize the plugin and I omitted those buttons and replaced with programs i frequently used. I will post the tutorial on how to get the weather working (FOR US ONLY)
Install the Home DLL Patcher. This will update the HTC Home program to update the weather from the new servers. Then open the HH_0409_WeatherCities.zip and unzip it to your desktop. Open the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml file in notepad and you will see a line like this <city name="Carrollton, US" loca="30117" land="United States" />Copy this line and paste it directly under the line you copied. This is the line that you will modify to add you custom city. Lets say I wanted to add ATLANTA GA as a custom city I would change it to be like this <city name="Atlanta, US" loca="30331" land="United States" />
The loca="30331" is the zip code that you will replace with your own.
The city name="Atlanta, US" is the the city name you will replace.
Once you add your custom cities. Save the file. Take the file you saved and place it in the windows folder on your phone and soft reset you phone. Now when you configure your HTC home plugin your city will show.
The Comm Manager is a replacement for the Kaiser but since our phones arent technically a smartphone anymore but they are viewed as Pocket PC by software installs we can use this updated Comm Manager. Put the cab on your phone and install as usual. Soft reset is recommended but not required. Now that the Comm Manager is installed next install the CM Settings program. This program will allow you to remove and add buttons on the new Comm Manager. It has a small foot print but you can remove it after the mod is made. Open CM Settings. It will say something like do you want to use an 8 or 10 button Comm Manager. Select 8. Using Fake Cursor navigate to the left side of the screen and select the middle Comm Manager it will turn GREEN. Navigate to the right side of the screen and select Flight Mode, Phone, Bluetooth, Mirosoft Direct Push, Data Connection, Ringer, Active Sync, and Wireless Modem. Deselect anything else like WIFI etc (You done have MS Direct Push installed but its kinda filling the last space on the Comm Manager since it is an 8 Button one. Otherwise it will give you an error message when you try to apply without it. Go to menu and apply settings. Select no on applying the default settings. You will get a confirmation that settings were applied. Exit out of the program and open up your Comm Manager and you should have 8 Buttons with MS Direct Push greyed out but all other buttons should work flawlessly.
More cabs...
More cabs... Yeah I could zip into one but im not at home.
UPDATE: I added SRS WOW HD driver. This is just icing on the cake for the volume registry tweak. Adds loudness and clarity. This version has the normal stuff but has an added input and output gain control. This helps with any clipping issues with internal speaker. The good thing is that it works with A2DP right out the box no registry tweaks required. It made my Jabra BT620s sound like studio headphones. I keep it on the head phones setting all the time even when using internal phone speaker. But when not using A2DP keep the SRS Center Effect below 30-40% this seems to control how loud the internal speaker gets. Any higher it sounds like garbage and you may risk blowing the speaker. Change everything else to your liking.
Added new Startup splash screen to match today screen. Drop the welcomehead.96.png into your windows folder.
Will add a new external display backgrounds. (screen that appears on the external display when the phone is open) I have one that will have the vista bars on the external screen but it gives the phone a look like your looking through the phone to the main screen. Kinda weird and creepy. I also have one for the htc logo that appears during the boot process.
Questions Comment Suggestions Welcome
good one.. would try it tonite...
This is really cool, but I have two questions:
1. Installing the dialer changed it in the regular OS, but not during PIN entry... any remedy for that?
2. The comm manager looks really weird, but you mentioned that... however, it doesn't seem to accept D-Pad / keyboard input... is that normal?

Hmmm, I can't find a version of the HTC Home plugin that doesn't terminally crash my install.
I've tried the one attached here, Schens, the older v1.0 but they all eventually (30 seconds or so) freeze the device and it needs a hard reset to get it working again.
Any other reliable ones floating around that you know of?
yup it freezes device. But u dont have to hard reset it. Just power off as usual, turn on again and QUICKLY disable htc home in settings. Is there any fix?

Change soft key under each touchflo 3d tab

Is there any app or way to change the soft keys for each touchflo 3d tab? Like under the people tab thare is the "all people" on the left and the "menu" on the right. I would like to change the all people from going to contacts to going to pocketcm. Is there any way of going about this? Changing some other soft keys would be nice as well.
Use SoftKey manager
Thanks, already tried that one, only lets you change the right and left soft keys on the home tflo3d tab. I want to change the soft keys on any of the other tflo3d tabs like people, or messages, and programs. Any one else with any ideas?

No they used the word "each" before the word tab so they phrased the question correctly. "each tabs" or "each tab?"
But yeah, I am looking for the same thing. I will post it here if I find it. If not... Off to the reg we go!
It has to be doable because people mod the reply button all the time. If you can mod that then you shoudl be able to mod anything, right? Possibly a hex editor for exe files? I hope so bad its not hard coded but you never know.....
soft buttons on tf3d home
I'm also looking for something like this. With touchflo3d turn off, the home screen left soft button will be "calendar" by default, but when you have a reminder/notification, it switches to "notification" "reminder", etc.
when touchflo3d is enabled on the home screen, this button becomes controled by tf3d, and while you can customize the button, it no longer becomes context sensitive - I find we have to hit the icons at the top bar (live msg, reminder, etc). these little icons are a bit hard to hit. ANyone know if the tf3d homepage soft button can become a 'notification' popup activation button?
dwight.
I think that the stock rom actually has this...so I know that it's possible. That also bothers me.

Does this let me set one of my softkeys on my home screen to "notification"
Just a quick update
I switched to a new rom last night from 'aruppenthal', 'RRE HTC Fuze ROM Ver 4.5 Special Edition" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467592), and it seems that this has a different behavior from my previous rom "PROven_ROM_WWE".
in any case, my tf3d home page now has "calender" and "contacts" as the lower soft buttons, and my reminders are coming up and seem to be changing the lowerleft softkey to "dismiss". I've yet to see "notification", but i'll keep an eye on it for a few days and let you guys know about the behavior.
one thing I left enabled this time, was the "system status" window when you hit the topbar icons - this has a shortcut to a mail icon when there's a notification for that, and when hitting it, it shows the respective notification popup at the lower part of the window. That might be a 'workaround' for those who preferred the old notifications but want to keep tf3d.
dwight.

This doesn't solve this question - this solution is already mentioned. Please read the previous posts before posting.
Any solutions to this questions yet? Been searching both the forum and google without any luck....
Well, the solution is actually SSMaHo! Just do a search for it. Works like a charm and lets you remap pretty much anything
I also have same issue with X1.
Att the Settings Tab, I really want to change left soft-ket to launch the System Setting but default is CommManager.
I already searched the forum and google with no luck. So I tried to looking into source code and just found something.
It is correct or not, however "settings.mode9" file have embedded LUA codes and these codes contains some soft-key assignment codes.
BTW, codes have not only one assignment code, it contains several assignments and TF3D can apply each soft-key by situation(or any registry? macro? configuration?) I think.
ok, so i want to remap the default today screen contacts softkey to bring up the touchflo 3d 2 contacts but cant find how to link to it. any takers?

none of the other solution worked for me
you need manila editing
Hi guys, i was pm Captain_Throwback about this and here his answer.
You can only remap the soft keys in the Manila Home tab. Changing the others requires Manila editing, and may not even be possible. Here are the registry keys for the Manila Home tab soft keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila]
"HomeLSKText"=""
"HomeLSKPath"=""
"HomeLSKArguments"=""
"HomeRSKText"=""
"HomeRSKPath"=""
"HomeRSKArguments"=""
Only the "Text" and "Path" keys need to be used - the "Arguments" key can be left blank.

Double menus

Been having a problem since I restored a backup.
Until now I have found two problems, there may be more.
It seems that some menus are shown twice.
For example when I go to Clock & Alarm I get the following:
1 Date and Time
2 Alarm
3 Alarm 2
4 Alarm 2
Also when I go to Settings-Home Screen I get the option twice.
I have two Home screen layouts, two Colour schemes etc.
It's really frustrating. Anyone know how I can make it go ? Either from registry or by doing something else?
I would guess that backup restore doubled some keys in registry. Try CeRegEditor which is damn good in search/compare of whole registry files. If anybody here has Rose registry fresh after HR, it will give you good sample to compare with... Try to catch somebody around, who just did HR and ask him/her to save a copy of it with the same soft and try to compare the files.
At least, you could save keys related to installed software etc., do the HR, restore file system and return relevant keys using the editor back into the registry file. A bit lottery, but better than nothing...
Older files as mine, continuosly running for almost a year, would generate zilions of non-relevant differences so I thing will be unuseful for you...
Thanks for the idea. I dl'ed the application. If anyone has recently made a HR I'd like to make a comparison.
Is there any way (maybe in another sub-forum here) that I could find which are the registry keys for the clock and the home screen?

1. The main one is that I seem to have lost the enlarged scroll button that previously appeared when I tapped the right-hand side of long windows. All I have now is the default grey slider bar.
2. The other, less important, is that after the screen display times out and I press a button to restore the display with the 'slide padlock', the background has changed from the original Sense colours to a plain 'gradient blue' background. This is not inconveniencing me at all, but it would be nice to restore the original background.
TIA.
i think both problems, especially the FIRST one, can be fixed by simply going to Windows Mobile Settings->Home and choosing a different theme...click OK...and then repeat the same steps and NOW choose the stock HTC theme (don't know what its called! sorry!).
after all of the above, set a wallpaper from Windows Mobile Settings->Home, check the box at the bottom that says "Use this picture as the background" and select a file. after this step, set a home screen and lock screen wallpaper from Sense. if you use CHT (cookie's home tab), you will get even more options and control over your wallpaper.

Many thanks for your reply. Your advice got me on the right track to resolve both problems.
I went to Settings->Menu->All Settings->Today and changed the theme, then repeated the sequence and changed it back to 'HTC Black'. I then chose the 'Items' tab and changed the checkbox from 'HTC Sense' to 'Windows Default' (ignoring a warning not to move away from Sense). Then I repeated the sequence and changed the 'Items' checkbox back to 'HTC Sense'. This seems to have restored both the Sense wallpaper and the enlarged scroll button.
Thanks again.
