Opera Mini 4.1 Cab Installer for Windows Mobile
I created this cab to automate the install of Jbed and the latest build of Opera Mini 4.1
This CAB will do the following:
- Install Esmertec Jbed 20071119.3.1
- Install Opera Mini 4.1 - Build 4.1.11355 20080522
- Sign Opera Mini as trusted (removes annoying prompt windows)
- Install shortcut for Opera Mini 4.1 in Start->Programs with icon.
(Includes extra Opera Mini 4.1 icon in the dll for Today launchers.)
- Install shortcut for Esmertec Jbed in Start->Programs.
Perfect for UC, or if you're just tired of having to install Jbed first, then go through the hassle of compiling Opera Mini etc. Everything is done for you in the cab.
Warning:
You may have to reinstall your other java applications if you are using Jbed as your midlet manager already.
Also, it's a wise idea to make a backup of your Appdb folder in \Windows.
Enjoy!

Dude, keep these coming. I love the idea of having a cab (to turn into OEM) that has multiple things fixed.
If you were to do this for programs with known issues that need to be set to work on the mogul you would move one step closer to a totally hands free flash; meaning on a new phone you flash boot, radio, and kitchen with all prefs baked in. Thanks again.
New java
Can you make another one with the newer Jbed in there?
It's Jbed Build ID: 20080222.3.1
If you need it let me know.
I don't have it. I've been using this build for a while and it's stable and does what I need. If you supply me with the new build cab, I can port it.
Here's the requested CAB for the newer Jbed version. I'd also appreciate the port, as I've been wondering how to get Opera Mini 4.1 installed automatically via UC Config.
Updated first post.
Thank you GC....
awesome dude. just what i was looking for. thanks a lot
anyone know if there's a way to back up opera mini bookmarks (not the online way) but the ones actually on your phone when you format?
Thanks so much. Will save me a lot of time in the future.
Any idea if this is 6800 only or if it should work on other windows mobile pro phones or even windows mobile regular like q9c. I have a 6800 but I help friends with other phones.
It SHOULD work on all Windows Mobile phones that uses \Windows\Appdb as the default application database directory. It's only been tested on the Titan.
I tried it on a Treo 700W - it didnt work..... Gave me a Not signed error for the java....

Not sure what to tell you. It was created to be installed on any build of WM. The only thing I can think of is that it was compiled on the Titan, so you may need to recompile it. It works on both my Titan and Apache as those are the only two devices I have to test.
awesome GC
GC, what a great idea. I love what you've done. Thanks!
Using a program like PocketPlus on the main page, I've put the Opera icon on there and hit it once..and bam it's up.
I'm interested in doing a similar thing with the Gmail Java app. I'd be interested to know how to go about building this. Would it be possible to post an explanation for those that might have similar requests? Specifically, how to change the security questions to be non-existant, to provide a Opera icon..etc.
Thanks again

Does GMail give you access to the .jar and .jad files like Opera Mini does?
I found the .jar file from google. The only problem is I don't know if there been an update since it was posted.

Yeah, I've been looking into this for a while now and I've been trying to implement it in a way which I wouldn't have to use Mortscript. For now, maybe I'll create another version which has the scripts built into the installer until I can figure out how to code it so it works without Mort.

Try completely uninstalling my cab, and completely uninstalling your old Jbed. Once the device is clean of both, then reinstall my cab.
I have not tested on WM5, though it should work fine. Only devices I've been able to test on are the HTC Titan, HTC Vogue, and HTC Apache, all running WM6/6.1. Anyone else with WM5 that can test and verify the same issue?

I haven't seen this issue, though I'll look into it. Can anyone else reproduce this?
P.S. An update that will support Opera Mini as default browser is on the way. Almost done. Stay tuned.
After installation, I got the error "The file 'jbed' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its componenets cannot be found.
My storage card named "SD Card". Is it a issue?
Okay, got the solution. It is for mobile phone wm only. Mine is a x50v PPC so it is not supported. To get supported you need phone.dll and sms.dll to be put under /windows

No, the name of the storage card doesn't matter. Did you have another version of Jbed installed before you installed this cab? Also, how are you opening it? Are you using the Opera Mini link in Start->Programs?
Updated 6/27. Added default browser support among other things.
Hi all,
This is my first Rom. I managed to create this after trial and a lot of error.
Tried a few cooking kitchens.
Finaly I managed to tweak and create one with Da_G's Kitchen
If you are reading this post Da_G, thnx for sharing the kitchen
My rom has a few minor flaws, this is because my noledge of cooking is not that big at this moment but I will learn how to, (possible with help of more experienced cook's) soon.
Ok, but what's in it. . . .

After installing you have to change the following to get the shortcuts of Tom Tom and Teeter into the right place:
Go to "/windows" there you fine the folders "start menu" and "startmenu"
Open "/windows/startmenu", then open the folder "programma's" and cut the folders inside "programma's" and past them into "/windows/start menu/ programs.
After that you can delete the folder "startmenu"
The Rom looks stable, I didn't had any problems with it after using it two days. And It's really fast.

good to see another chef in the kitchen
Welcome to the chef team, Nemesco Don't heshitate to PM any of us for tips or help
Hi Nemesco. Good on you for jumping into the kitchen!
How are you adding TomTom and Teeter into your ROM - are they included as cabs that run during the first boot, set up as separate OEM packages or included in the main bulk of the kitchen? Depending what the answer is depends on how we're going to sort it out.
If it's a cab, then we're going to have to edit the Shortcuts within the tab (using WinCE cab manager). Stick the cabs on Rapidshare and drop me the link and I'll change them for you.
If they're installed as separate OEM packages, then we'll need to amend the Initflashes.dat file within that OEM (probably). Again, I'm happy helping with that if you want.
If they're included in the main bulk of the kitchen, then it'll probably still be a Initflashes file that needs amending, but it could be harder to find it. Hopefully it'll be one of the last two options.
Good luck mate, and I'm happy to help if I can.
Thnx for your reply's and your offers to help a beginning chef.
@ NRGZ28, I'd send you a PM.
@ Confused Stu, Thnx, I managed to change the initflashfiles.txt with pathinfo.
Anybody installed the rom and have feedback?
MANILA v2.0 QVGA for WM6.5
-------------------------------------------------
ANNOUNCEMENT
I'm not able to provide any support anymore to this thread since I don't have any Windows mobile device left. My old HTC Polaris is running on Android now. So if you have any questions just post it here or use search, don't PM me because I probably won't answer.
Good luck,
-------------------------------------------------
Manila v2.0 have been leaked from HTC. The great thing with this version is that it comes from HTC Mega, a.k.a Touch2 which have native QVGA screen resolution so there is no need for porting or resizing of applications.
Big thanks goes to Da_G who made available to all of us build 19171723 and conflipper for latest build 19191432. Raw HTC Mega build 19171723 packages are here and build 19191432 packages are here.
NOTE:
Originally Da_G posted Mega packages for cookers so they can cook into Roms. I just made a quick cab so anyone can benefit and try out before your favorite cookers will release new Roms. Making cabs still takes some time so I'll add other Mega cabs later.
It is released as is, so it may or may not work on your device.
WHATS NEW IN THIS VERSION?
new home tab with flipping clock and weather widget [only in build 19191432 from 23-09-09]
it has new folderview (bugless finally), works flawlesly, also All settings soft key now is working properly with WM6.5.
footprints widget is working with latest build 19191432, but its not included. You have to install apart.
there is new Sound Control canvas in settings tab
there is new Mail Setup canvas in settings tab (needs Email Setup Wizard and New Mail Account cabs to work, link below)
In my opinion the biggest change in this Manila version is HTC new approach to finger friendly menus, settings and applications in tight integration with Manila. The rest you can see in screenshoots.
MUST READ
----------------------------------
original version works only on WM6.5. I included patched version which should work with other phones and WM6.1 (thanks to mbarvian and silymore)
this is only WWE version, its not translated yet to other languages.
if you had any previous version of Manila, don't forget to uninstall it and do soft reset before installing this version. Also keep in mind that it will keep your personal settings, like people tab photos, weather cities or launcher number of rows/clomuns.
Manila customizer theme manager won't work properly since home tab is totally revamped by HTC
to set Opera as default browser in Manila you need to change the following registry settings:
Code:
\HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\
"OperaEXEFile"=<Path to Opera>
"WebBrowserType"=dword:00000001
Apparently leaked Manila files are beta version and for that reason debbug logger is enabled in some applications by default. So you will have to disable it by deleting this registry key as soon as you have finished installing all programs. They key will reappear, but don't worry, it will not log anything.
Code:
HKLM\Software\HTC\DebLogger
If original Notification Enhancements or some other system cabs does not work for you try SDK signed cabs from link below.
For Weather patched Manila version look in this post. Currently only for WM6.5. (thx to S.V.I)
If you have Sprint or other non HTC device and SMS button does not work for you then look for fix HERE (thx to Vancer)

LAST NOTE:
As I already told this version of Manila is very tightly integrated into HTC Mega package and it is almost impossible to have clean standalone version. Nevertheless it is possible to run it with minimum requirements without problems, so don't expect to work every single function and module. Also this version is designed for WM6.5 and it may not work flawlessly with WM6.1.
To run Manila with base functionality you will need to install these cabs:
(you will have running Manila with basic tabs working. Obviously Album, Audio Manager and Settings tabs won't work or work partly, but it gives aproximate idea ans feeling about this Manila version)
MANILA BASE
[WM6.5] HTC 2DManila 2.0.19191432.04.WAlien.cab - it have now flipping clock and animated weather in home tab!
Important! For weather update to work you must install geo localisation files. Also its known issue that weather in home tab does not work on CDMA phones.
HTC Scroll 2.0.19173130.WAlien.cab
HTC Shared Modules 1.01.19143331.01.cab
HTC Framework 1.1.19183729.WAlien.cab
HTC DRM Middleware 1.5.19142824.00.cab
HTC HTCAnimation 1.3.5.0.cab
... and for a little more functionality a little more cabs:
(if all cabs are installed successfully you will have fully functional Manila. In case something does not work for you try SDK signed cabs in link below)
MANILA +
HTC Album 3.0.19182223.WAlien.cab - can't rotate images (what is not a bug, but normal functionality) and videos in album does not play.
HTC FullScreenPlayer 1.7.19183031.01.WAlien.cab - will be needed to playback videos in album, but currently it does not work. For now its just optional cab for testing
HTC AudioManager 2.2.19182329.LR1.WAlien.cab
HTC Audio Booster 2_5_19182330.WAlien.cab
HTC Dshow 2.0.19182129.WAlien.cab - must have recompiled it so now it includes HTCADXRenderV.dll with no overwrite flag
HTC Resource Proxy 1.0.19132627.00.cab - must have
HTC Media Tool kit 1.0.19171631.00.cab - must have
[use older version]HTC CommManager 2.9.F.1.WAlien.cab - if WiFi does not start for you look HERE and HERE how to fix it (thx to strucon)
HTC Phone Canvas 4.0.52619192527.WAlien.cab - GSM ONLY! not for CDMA
HTC Opera Browser 2.0.19191432.04.WAlien.cab
HTC YouTube 2.6.19171628.WAlien.cab
HTC Facebook 1.0.07.1.WAlien.cab

MANILA GFX FILES
----------------------------------
Here is Manila with optimized graphics and skinned to black theme. Graphics size was reduced down from 11Mb to 3.2Mb (Gain of7Mb!!!). Big thanks to S.V.I who did this titanium job of editing over 700 files. Launcher tab is disabled by default as WM6.5 have its own good launcher.
I also resized Phones Canvas and reduced size down from 1.7Mb to 466Kb (Gain of 1.3Mb). Just so you know to gain more performance some of the graphics is stored in \Windows\ManilaGFX folder.

will this work on ROMs with Manila 2D cooked in ?
I'm currently using the last Manila 2D Build that was available in herg's thread cooked into an Atom Life ROM.
EDIT: ah what the hell, i'll just try it
can you share how to come with cab version from a rom version? please give me a start.
Doesn't work on LG KS20 running Farah's WM6.5 ROM.
Lightning303 said:
i installed it on my ks20 with wm6.1 (KisS 20.5). had to use patched manila2d.exe. it starts as it should, but thats all, i cannot work with it at all. scrolling is no problem, but any button e.g. adding contacts to people tab or adding programs doesnt work. when i press a button just nothing happens. dont know if its because of 6.1 or the patched exe . maybe i will flash to 6.5 to test that.
edit: installed some fixes that were added in previous versions of herg and now everything works great

Didn't Work
Did not work on my ELFin. Installed it and on the Today screen prompts "Tap to launch TouchFlo, i do, it starts launching and goes back to the "Tap to...."
Paul
Yes, bottom bar is colored, but sliding tab is transparent.
For those having problems installing be sure that you have all basic applications from HTC + some others like:
- HTC Album
- HTC Audio Manager
- YouTube
- GoogleMaps
For more information look at the old Manila thread.
Also this is only WWE version, won't work correctly with other languages.
@cruiserrr - to make cab file you will need cab maker. I'm using WinCE Cab Manager which is not free, but you can find freewares too. Usage is quite simple, just add files, registry entries and press make cab, thats it.

Yeah, I am familiar with cabwizsp, and wince cab manager. But I do not know what to do with the oem package. How do I edit/export the OEM package into the files, reg entries, etc? Once splitted I take everything in there, to make the cab?

If we choose the OEMPackage Manila2D for example:
Start a new cab on WinCECM, insert all files on the cab except a file with extension .rgu.
When it's done, File>Import>REG File, and choose the .rgu file.
If you have a dll on the OEM package, use that for recompile a DLL : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2293746&postcount=8
I think it's good ?
Cab from Exe
Hy, how can i do a cab from your exe ? (HTC Mega)
Hello Guys n Gals!
Its not a very long time since we have been on this forum but despite of this fact, the experience has been terrific for all of us i think. Over the past few months, We have shared a lot of information and content in this gene forum which was otherwise almost going dead. Its great to see so many chefs coming up these days, almost everybody seems to be customizing his/her own roms. These new changes in the forum users made me think about sharing content on the forum in a different, more optimal way.
So here i am, with my Visual Kitchen. Visual kitchen, as most of us know, is a combined effort of 2 great forum members Ervius and Bepe. It is the most easy, well organized and the only multi device, visual kitchen available as of now. Sometime before, our good friend Besfen and Ankit360 worked on it and made it work for Gene. Besfen also posted a great tutorial to use it full of pictures and all. As for me, i took all the packages that i have customized, debugged and maintained over time and organized them properly into the kitchen. I used all the information posted by dear Besfen and made the kitchen such that you guys dont have to do much of this work again.
So from now on, you will download this kitchen and all the packages only once, and i will post updates fully customized for this kitchen. YOu will just have to download the updated stuff only and not the whole heavy duty kitchen. This way, it will be easier for you to download and at the same time, easier for me to upload. Also, this one kitchen will work for both Old and New Gene, for both WM 6.1 and WM 6.5
Necessary details about using the kitchen are in the following posts, read these carefully. If you want to go more indepth, read Besfen's thread, here:
Besfen's Excellent Visual Kitchen 1.8.1 Tutorial for Gene

Requirements for Running the Kitchen :
The kitchen requires at least .NET framework 2.0 and Visual C++ 2008 redistributable installed on your computer. The latest versions of .NET framework and VC++ redistributable are 3.5 SP1 and 2008 SP1 respectively, and i highly recommend to install these to avoid any future problems and maintain good performance of system. The links to these components are given below :

I hope you guys will have a great time with the kitchen and you will be able to customize your roms to your heart's content.
Setting up and using the Kitchen
First Time Setup:
===============================
1. The first file containing the Visual Kitchen Core should be extracted to the root of a drive, ie. on C:\ or D:\ or whatever. You should get a folder such as C:\VisualKitchen or D:\Visual kitchen. Dont put the kitchen on a path that contains spaces.
2. The second file having th EXT packages should give you a folder called EXT which should be placed as it is in the Visual Kitchen Folder. It should go like C:\VisualKitchen\EXT.
Thats it! Your basic kitchen is set up. Please note that i could have been given EXT folder with the kitchen itself, but i have kept it seperate coz kitchen wont be updated most of the times but EXT folder could be from time to time.
How to insert a new OS build:
==============================
When i will post an OS build, it will come as a file called KATsVK_SYS_XIP_<buildno>.7z. On extracting this will give you two files : SYS_<buildNo>.7z and XIP_<buildNo.7z>. The SYS zip file will have a folder with the name of the build such as 21857, it should be exracted as it is inside the SYS folder of the kitchen.
XIP zip file will have a ROM folder inside it. First extarct this folder somewhere else. Then move it to visual kitchen directory. It already has a ROM folder so Windows will ask to merge these two folders. Say yes to this prompt and everything will be placed where it should.
Thats it!
Your kitchen is ready with new build.
Using the Kitchen
===============================
After you have updated your Kitchen with a new build SYS and XIP, launch the ErviusKitchen.exe (Vista/7 users should either set the compatibility settings to "Run as Administrator" or right click the file and choose the same command everytime.).
Now do this in order : In the upper 3 boxes, Choose DEVICE as New or Old Gene, Language as 0409, EXT Build as 6.1 or 6.5 depending upon which OS you are cooking, XIP build to the build you want to create rom with and same with SYS build.
Pagepool can be set at time of cooking by clicking the "Other" button on the top left corner. Also leave the -uldr and -nocert textboxes blank.
You can disable and enable the pacakges to be included into your rom on the fly by double clicking them in teh area where their names are shown.
Thats it!, hit the Create ROM button and wait for the process to finish. YOur ROM will be there in RELEASE_NewGene or RELEASE_OldGene folder.
Customizing the packages inside the EXT Folder
=====================================
The EXT folder is logically divided into 3 sections :
NewGene, OldGene and Shared.
The first two are further divided into 6.5 and 6.1 and contain packages specific to these OSs. The packages are different for both OSs, mostly due to the fact that WM 6.5 needs the new PNG icon system.
Shared folder contains packages that can be used across both devices and across both operating systems.
Note that The NewGene and Old Gene folders have exact duplicates, and one might worder that why didn't i put them all inside the Shared folder. The answer is that, shared folder cannot be subdivided further to arrange packages for 6.1 and 6.5. So thats why this redundency was needed.
While updating these folders just keep in mind that you put packages according to their type in different folders. If the package contains WM 6.5 png icons and registry settings, then that package should be seperately placed inside WM 6.5 folder in both NewGene and OldGene folders. If its a generic package with no icons and anything like certain frameworks, dlls etc, then it should go into Shared folder outside the NewGene and OldGene folders.
The NewGene and OldGene folders also contain Common folder, which was not useful in the present scheme that i used. So these are left empty, however, you cannot delete these, the kitchen will stop working.
Cutomizing the SYS folder
=====================================
The SYS folder is also divided into many subfolders at various levels. At first level, its divided according to the Build number, each build number has its own folder inside SYS.
Then inside each build, there are three folders, a Shared folder containing Language only files and Common SYS, a DPI_96 folder containing 96 dpi files that are applicable for all 96 dpi resolutions like 240x320, 320x320 etc. and a DPI_96_resh_240_resv_320 that contains files specific to the devices with horizontal resolution of 240 and vertical resolution of 320 like our Gene.
This arrangement allows files for multiple resolution based devices to be kept in one place. Files not specific to resolution of devices are in Shared folder and resolution specific are in other two folders.
Now again, all these three folders are divided into 2 more folders each, 0409, and Common. 0409 is the language code of WWE, United States English, so files that are language specific goes into this one and other go into Common.
You dont have to remember all this, just remember one thing, if you add a package (which can be a group of one or more folders like xyz, xzy_dpi_96, xyz_lang_0409 etc ), its components should go into the right folders and when removed, all the folder should be looked for its lang and dpi folders too.
Other Folders
=====================================
1. Utility : The utility folder contains two utilities:
a. SuperRecMod: This utility can be used to recmod modules(convert modules to flat files). Create a shortcut to the SuperRecMod.exe to your send to folder. In Windows XP, this can be found by just going to start>Run, writing sendto and pressing enter. IN Windows Vista and Windows 7, it is located at <systemdrive>:\USers\<username>\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Sendto, where <systemdrive> is the driver letter of the drive on which Windows is installed (uaually C drive) and <username> is the user account name you are currently looged in to windows with.
After doing this, you can just select the modules to be recmodded, right clicking on them and choosing SendTo><your shortcut name>.
b. PruneNonQVGAResources.bat : In a raw sys, like that posted by our friends da_g on xda and joojoobee666 on ppcgeeks, the folders contain some non qvga files in the common sys. This happens in WM 6.5 SYS, in LockscreenEA, LockscreenNonEA, BronzeEA and BronzeNonEA folders. Now you can create a shortcut to this batch file in the sendto menu just using the method specified above and send these folders to this batch file to get rid of Non QVGA cpr files.
2. RUU: This contains the ROM Update Utility, just put the generated ROM inside this, connect your phone to pc with cable and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe to update your ROM.
3. RELEASE_NewGene and RELEASE_OldGene : These folder are used by the kitchen to store the final .nbh file after cooking.
4. Removed: In this folder i put those components which i dont use generally in my roms, these are mostly taken from SYS and are stored according to build numbers.
A Big thanks to :
Bepe, Ervius, Besfen, Ankit360, Ramerson, Zelalat, Pasha, Lomlom, Olipro, Orefkov and all those great friends, names of whom i have forgot to mention,
for all the knowledge and tools that these people have created and shared with their immensely brilliant minds and days of hard work Wothout you guys, i would not be able to even flash my device once.
Thank you all!
Reserved for Future use
Thank you
will not be enough
But really we should change the GENE name to SUMIT
Thank you Boss
i will try asap

@deathgame:
The virus warning is false and is a usual case with system tools which disassemble code. Sometimes partner companies (like Microsoft and others) also ask Antivirus makers to mark these executable as virus as it helps in "illegal" activities. But mostly its a false warning by a lousy antivirus engine.
I have tested this kitchen with atleast 5 antiviruses and my system is an upto date Windows 7 RTM one with UAC turned to full setting (just like it was in Vista) not to a level below it which comes by default with Windows 7. Apart from that, my mind is also an antivirus and it has worked really well since last 10 years, Never had a virus in my system, except for the time when there was a sudden increase in Pen Drive based viruses on XP. But before it could bother me, Vista came and i switched
As for the 6.1 nk.exe message, understand that although we are cooking Wm 6.5 roms, we dont have a 6.5 native kernel or nk.exe which resides in OEMXIPKernel package in XIP. 6.5 native kernel means the operating system kernel which is compiled against the 6.5 code and HTC device drivers. This kind of kernel will provide the two extra slots of virtual memory allowing more modules to be used inside roms.
If, suppose, we had a native kernel for 6.5, we would check the Real WM 6.5 AKU checkbox and then we wont have to recmod modules at all
@Others: Thanks guys! Enjoy yourself
hello sumit i followed ur steps bt when i click create rom it says specify device id what to do please help me
You have not followed my steps properly actually. On tht top of the kitchen window, First of all, select the Device, from the Dropdown list. This will fill up the Device ID.Then choose EXT Build, then XIP Build and then SYS build. After that click Create ROM.
